Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. @Grimalkin Thank you! We can thank Jack Falahee for growing such a nice beard as I used him as a partial base model to work from.

    2. Could someone please share what eyes size you use for Adonis 18m (44cm) fashion. I would love to see variations on sclera size to iris size ratio. In mm if possible please, as description like "10mm eyes with smaller iris" doesn't quite answer my question. :-) Thank you!

    6. @lizumi156 I lover her faceup! :D

Does anyone have an Arsene hybrid? I love his face, but 70cm is too tall to me. I'd like to shorten him to 60-65cm, but he seems to have a big head.

      • x 2
    7. I had him on an Illusion Spirit 60cm body for a while before I sold his head. Unfortunately I didn't get many good comparison photos but he looked fine.

    8. Anyone thinking of getting Carl Mars???

    9. Based off a render? No way. From Dollsheโ€™s track record, youโ€™re looking at at least two years before you receive it, and Iโ€™d be worried he would alter/tweak the sculpt in the meantime.

Didnโ€™t he do that before with one of the celebrity heads?

When I saw โ€˜3 monthsโ€™ quoted for the production time I laughed out loud.

Sorry, I woke up feeling pretty salty about the fact Iโ€™ve been waiting over a year now for a regular old Dollshe Saint...

      • x 9
    10. I totally was thinking this EXACT thing! And I too laughed whe I saw the 3 months thing. . that is the most . . no.

Also off subject, your thing under your profile pic! Love that song <3.

    11. Far as I know the 55cm he took pre-orders for nearly 3 years ago still hasn't been received by anyone. I cancelled mine after waiting nearly 2 years without the prototype even being made.

Never believe a word of any timeline promised by Dollshe.

      • x 5
    12. I just placed order 70cm David Kuncci and 70cm Arsene and I couldnโ€™t help myself ordering Carl Mars at same time when I see his 3D sketch released. He is very handsome....*_*

      • x 1
    13. @TatterPunk Thanks, lol. Not so secret Bowie fan here.

    14. If anyone is curious about the process for Carl; the Tom Cruise 3D render was released june 2017. Ive placed my order, paid in full on may 2018 and I still dont have it or seen the actual production of it. Natalie was placed at the same time, and I still dont have her either...

Im thinking of cancelling all my dollshe preorders. It was nice of him to allow me to have tom cruise on the 28m body instead of mystic, but I dont feel like waiting longer, specially since I paid full price on my dolls, but the 1/4 price "sale" dolls get to their owners in less than a year from what I see. I just get a surge of disappointment whenever I see dollshe news at this point.

      • x 6
    15. @GreenTeaSlug some people have received Natalie though. I havenโ€™t seen anything about Tom. If I were you I would inquire about Natalie since we know there is a master mold for her, and cancel Tom. If theyโ€™re on the same order, Tom might be the reason you never received anything. Or maybe Dollshe is a massive airhead and keeps losing track of his pending orders. Either way itโ€™s worth emailing.

    16. That's exactly why I won't order direct from Dollshe (or a dealer for him) unless it's something that is explicitly stated is in stock and ready to ship immediately. I believe the wait times are ridiculous and I'm not willing to play that game again. Yes, I'd still love to have a 55cm Saint in espresso ebony but I'm not willing to wait the ludicrous time he's currently rocking (because he still hasn't even made the prototypes yet even though it's literally been several years since he opened the pre-order).

      • x 4
    17. After waiting 11 months for my Pure Body Bernard and 13 or 14 months for my Grown Bermann, I am not tempted to pre-order Carl. And from a sketch, no less.

      • x 3
    18. Lucky you! I emailed them multiple times after a year long wait on Adonis and the vampire khan set (the one with a translucent version). But they simply told me that my order will be finished shortly and it eventually arrived.

    19. His head is kinda big! I had an old dollshe with the small head and I noticed the difference. Maybe ask your local doll community to see what male bodies you can compare with.

    20. I would also love to see him on a smaller body (specifically Soom SG). I've been trying to find out how this would work for a couple of years now, and just keep getting the "he has a big head" answer, but no photos to show how big. I mean, how big is big? So far, i have no idea.

Also, where to do you all find clothes for your 28M bodies?
I have mine in Iplehouse EID clothes, and it's not bad, but the clothes themselves are awful XD (they're from 2009, and made very well, but not stylish, but at least he's not naked.), I keep looking at Iple but they don't have a lot, Freedom Teller isn't doing it for me and I find anywhere else to buy clothing that large. Since he's not as bulky or tall as my EID (who also has the strong man arms and is just huge) I thought maybe there were other places to look I don't know about (I tried Etsy, but currently the mailing system being what it is, I keep getting hit with extra shipping charges after I pay and I'm not thrilled with that).

    21. Dolly Planet is a dealer for Sweet of the Night, and they make most of their offerings with Dollshe 28m (and others) in mind. They also have a TaoBao shop, and Christina of New Clover Singing can order items from TaoBao.

Other than that, SartoriaJ on Etsy (already rec'd) and random Googling has resulted in most of my finds. Eventually, once I order someone in 28m and they arrive (lol Dollshe), I can begin drafting patterns/making things.

    22. Yeah, Sartoria had great stuff, but is the one I tried ordering from and got extra fees after I'd paid and it was ready to ship. I'm not really eager to do that again.

Thank you! I'll check those out! EDIT: omg these clothes are so fabulous I want them all. And they're not at all the style of my doll and I don't care

Not that I'm enabling but I really love my 28M body! He's not so movable in his super-tight jeans XD but he poses so well naked! (also mine took less than a year, order to arrival, so sometimes it's not too bad a wait!)

    23. @VampireAngel13 - do you have the model with the neck joint? i started having second thoughts that i should have ordered that...

    24. I do! I love it, that was literally the reason I bought this body. I went all out and got all the joints. And hands.
I wish I had even more hands. I forgot that I'd want a couple to mod and paint and that would leave him with less hands when he was not in costume.

    25. well, i wonder if it's too late to change, i mean it's not been a year  order must be still staging
but you said yours came really fast. :sweat

i need to go troll pictures for the bodies with the joint at the pelvis, to see how it really photographs. at first, i felt like it looked like a pair of briefs were on him, and i liked the lines of the L2.
or maybe folks will spam :wiggle

about clothes, i figure i'll be trolling with the measurements, might find a few pre-made things from the regular places. but likely will have to make a lot myself since they are usually so expensive for nice ones. or they can just sit around in a yukata... that's ok too haha

    26. Fast just meaning not a year lol. I ordered last June and he was in my hands mid-april. Which was great! My only other DS order was 14 months. So, fast for Dollshe.

All my pictures are terrible, as I was modding the neck and head to fit (mine is a hybrid) and was just showing progress, and they don't show the pelvis that much, but I have this.

      Ignore his Bimong-ness.

I would be happy to attempt some more. This is the most "work-of-art" doll I own. I love every joint. They're perfect.

    27. Are the pictures underneath the renders of Carl Mars the actual Carl sculpt or is it a different sculpt just showing off the body? He is pretty handsome and I think if he has already cast 1 doll (or 2 since there's a gray version and a NS version) that he's pretty close to casting the first prototypes like the website says they are. I really need to save money right now but I'm tempted to risk it.

    28. It's a different sculpt showing off the body. I'm not positive on which one though - Rey Lewis maybe? I might be wrong - if you know for certain chime in. <3 Rey Lewis is handsome and I hope to get him eventually. I'm less certain about Carl Mars - Dollshe being the way he is.

      Edit: model is David Kuncci

    29. You're right it is David. Hmmm I'm still tempted since I don't really mind waiting for the doll but I've also been eyeing Diana since she's on sale. If I can make sure I can afford to get one I might have to flip a coin hahaha

    30. if it helps the decision process at all
      1) Diana has already been sculpted and molds exist to cast her
      2) Carl Mars does not, in fact, physically exist, and once(if) the sculpt is actually finished molds still need to be created before he can be cast, and
      3) the finished Carl Mars sculpt probably won't look exactly like the sketch. The changes might be quite significant, and, if you don't like them, getting your money back after a couple years isn't guaranteed

    31. Just tried some clothes I bought specifically for my Dollshes and the fit is veeeeeeery wrong. Where's everyone's favorite places to shop for Dollshes these days? I know Freedom Teller has preorders open right now but nothing in the current collection is calling to me :...(
I'm looking for pants that fit well in the crotch/waist in particular.
Specifically for the old Hound/Bermann body with no butt lol! But I have one of the 18M pure bodies as well but I find he is a little easier to clothe since he actually has a butt and fills things out a bit better.

Edit: Taobao shops are fine too if anyone has any suggestions!

    32. @VampireAngel13 - thank you <3 and he looks great! i really like his look. The waist joint though, yeah it's sort of that "briefs" look. hmm. i think it might matter what poses i want them to do, but i see the appeal to the neck joint for certain. i placed my order last December. maybe too late to change anything. except the newer one for Aramis.

    33. Iยดm not sure where to ask this, and Iยดve been trying to find info everywhere but without any success, but have the 18M Classic Minis (the ones that are 55cm) ever been made? Iยดm not very familiar with Dollshe, so maybe the answer to this is somewhere, and I havenยดt seen it, but just wanted to know!

    34. As far as I know they haven't been made yet. A lot of people who ordered them a good while ago cancelled because of all the years of delays, so I don't know if anyone here even still has them on order.

    35. Thank you! I was so confused because I kept trying to find pictures of them and nothing would appear. A shame though, because I was so curious of how they would look.

    36. Yeah, I would love to see how they look too. It's sad that wait times for regular dolls that have molds which have already even been made are still taking 2 years or more sometimes -huge sigh- .

    37. Definitely! I was interested because it said on the website that their heads are 6-7", and maybe they would look nice next to MSDs (the heads, because the bodies would be very very tall haha). Oh well, maybe they will show up in the future.

    38. Yeah, I have a feeling the heads are smaller than that though. The regular heads are closer to 7-8 than the size they say. . . sooo one could guess they'd probably be small looking heads next to MSD's. Though they might look good with Souldoll Vitos or something. . Of course right now they're entirely invisible looking lol.

    39. Yeah true! Wouldnยดt surprise me if the website was wrong. Not exactly uncommon of bjd companies hahaha Are the normal heads very big compared to MSDs?

    40. I'm sure you'll be happy without the neck joint! Mine is literally a Spider-man, and I need it to attempt a good Spider-man pose XD so it was a must-have on my order. Normal poses don't require so many joints.

    41. I'm one of the ones that ordered during the very first offering. I cancelled the order 19 months later because I was tired of the runaround Dollshe was constantly giving me about when I'd receive the doll I'd paid in full for. I don't think the dolls haven't even been made physically in the prototype stage and it's creeping around to 3 years since he first offered them. If someone knows different, please feel free to correct me on this.

Would someone here happen to have an AoD WS and a Dollshe oriental they could compare for resin matching purposes?

I've asked in the AoD thread but it's crickets and tumbleweeds there apparently. I need to get a new body for one of my guys (not a Dollshe) and his head is an extremely close match to Dollshe oriental (98%). The aesthetics/size of the 61cm AoD body would work really well for his character. He has a gorgeous face-up by Meenist that I'm not willing to wipe so blushing his head to match something isn't a thing for him unfortunately.

      • x 1
    42. @Iron_Dog - I have AoD WS skeleton hands, and a 5th Motif timeless body (casted by Dollshe, right?) in oriental, but it's older resin colour from 2016. i can photo that and/or inside his head cap since he's blushed when i get home from work if you want.
But, i can tell you, the AoD is paper white and is even a bit whiter than Doll Chateau white, you can see the hand on my pics of Fergus. link here. maybe their normal yellow would be more like the Dollshe oriental?

@VampireAngel13 - i can see why you would want all the joints too  i'm torn, i hate the idea of ruining the lines of the body but the flexibility is very appealing...

    43. @Grimalkin just knowing that the AoD WS is paper white is very helpful. I'd love it/be forever grateful if you could throw out a photo. My Dollshe oriental is from 2015 (head) and 2017 (body) and there is a very slight difference in the colour (99.8%, not even worth blushing to match) so your guy should be right in the area of mine regards colour for comparing purposes.

I have a DC WS doll and I can compare them but Vaynabei is also a few years old so he may have a little age related mellowing and not be a true/good representation of brand new WS. Oleander (the one who needs a new body) also matches my DZ WS boy who is 7 years old and has def mellowed due to age. I have AoD NY boys and they are definitely NOT a match to Dollshe oriental, the AoD NY being too dark. They are 12 years old though and likely have some mellowing due to age although the interior of their head caps seems to be the same as their easily visible resin.

    44. @Iron_Dog Are you sure it's Oriental resin you need and not Fresh?
I have several DS orientals from different years and they're all a peachy NS, and don't come close to matching any WS, even old and yellowed WS. I have AOD NY (and the same WS Skeleton hands) and I would def not say it's darker than DS Oriental, but way too yellow.

Dollshe Oriental from april 2020 vs Dollzone WS from a couple years ago (I think. I just got it second hand. The body is newer and slightly whiter). ETA: i forgot to mention this is natural light and unedited.

[IMG]Dollshe and dollzone by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

My older Oriental is the same tone, just more yellow - still not as yellow as AOD NY (though that is also old and yellowed, so maybe new it's closer). I took a pic of that too if you want it.

@Grimalkin definitely all the joints! XD If you need any posing shots I can take some pics. I need excuses these days to do things with my dolls. Y'know. If you need any enabling.

    45. @VampireAngel13 Hmmm. I'll need to take a pic a bit later of my assorted guys together to better show the resin together and why I was asking about AoD WS.

Oleander is an Angel Toast Crow imperfect head. The imperfection being that the caster screwed up the resin colour that they were supposed to cast the heads in (among other things). I bought Wu-Tyr direct from Dollshe so I'm positive he's oriental skin (it also says this on his CoA). Fei-Lau (DZ Edward) was bought directly from DZ so I know absolutely he's WS (although mellowed now to a lovely creamy white). Jaiseki was also purchased directly from AoD so I'm positive of his colour, too. Oleander was purchased directly from Angel Toast when she was at DollNorth a few years ago so I'm his first owner, too. I took Oleander outside in natural light to compare him to Fei-Lau (DZ mellowed WS), Wu-Tyr (Dollshe oriental) and Jaiseki (AoD NY).

    46. I still have mine on order. Still waiting. At this point, I'm just too stubborn to give up.

    47. Okay, photo! Left to right: Dollshe Orijean oriental, Angel Toast Crow imperfect head on Miro NY body, DZ Edward WS (mellowed as he's 7 years old) with an AoD NY head cap from 2008. All my guys live in their boxes when I'm not actively doing something with them as I lack display space so any mellowing is due to age not exposure to light. My camera also darkened the picture slightly *grrrr*.

Note that Oleander's head is NOT blushed to match anything. The colour difference between his head and cap is another reason for him being an imperfect head. I don't care as you don't see the head cap when his wig is on.
[IMG]IMG_1948 by ID Locke, on Flickr

The AoD doesn't match at all obviously being far too dark a yellow tone. The Dollshe oriental I have (2015 head, 2017 body) is a decent match, being just a hair darker than Oleander's head with a barely there hint of a pinkness. The mellowed DZ WS is a touch lighter than Oleander's resin with creamy undertones.

      • x 1
    48. Mind me asking when you ordered them? I havenยดt been much into Dollshe, and only very recently have I discovered their sculpts, so donยดt know when all the preorders were :) I do hope they will ship your doll soon! Would be quite interesting to see the size.

    49. @Iron_Dog - i've had a 12 hr day and the light is gone, i hope you don't mind, I'll take the pic in the morning for you :thumbup
there is nowhere in my house with light that isn't either super yellow (weird LED bulbs), or super blue from my actinic lights on my tank right now. maybe the AoD pink would be more of a match, now that i see the AoD yellow, that is a lot darker than the Dollshe.
for now, you could see my Timeless (Dollshe cast OR) in this line up with the two DC's that are creamy white (a-body-03 & 06), and one super yellowed DC white a-body-02 plus a few others. here.
i guess i need to do another line up and with head caps again too  though i'm not sure i want to document my many sins...

      • x 1
    50. @Grimalkin No worries. I'm not in a super rush for this. When you get to it, you get to it and I appreciate the effort.

Again, my camera made the photo a bit darker than it is in RL but the AoD NY is most def not a match to Oleander or the Dollshe oriental I have. The DZ pink and IOS PS don't look like too off of a match to the Dollshe OR. Both bodies are more buff than Oleander needs though (naturally *sigh*).

The A-body is the right aesthetic look for Oleander. He needs it in a 60cm (62cm absolute max) height with a 10cm neck. It's needle in a haystack time!

      • x 1
    51. @Iron_Dog how do you feel about Dollstown? The problem is you would probably get an oriental closer to the darker peach mine is, but looking at your photo reminded me that's what my Elf body looked like when I owned one and they have a 60 cm body. Or at least they used too. group 2

My other thought is just go with the AOD body you want in the NSP. That bright pink will fade pretty quickly and leave you with a nice, pale cream that will probably be the exact color you want. This is literally how I hybrid everything, I just get pinkish resins. They all end up the same color eventually, and it won't be yellow-toned, which is what a mellowed WS will be.

To stay on topic, an old shot of my only full Dollshe.

    52. @VampireAngel13 I don't have any Dollstown in my collection (shocking, I know) so I don't have any feelings towards them either way. I'm not even sure if I've ever seen one in RL. That's a good tip about the AoD in NP, thank you. I honestly never thought about going in that colour direction. Then again, 99% of my guys are purchased as full dolls so hybrids aren't usually a thing for me and I'm kind of a noob when it comes to them despite being in the hobby for 12 years. I have 3 hybrids out of 66 dolls (and I'm trying to talk myself out of a head I really like that would need a body).

I get a very Marilyn Manson feel with that shot of your boy. He's gorgeous.

    53. I'm almost exactly the opposite, I hybrid almost everything! Out of around that many dolls (I try not to know, it's scary but somewhere between 65-75) I can count my full dolls easier.

Dollstown and Dollshe used to have the same resin (as far as I know they still do, but I could be wrong), which is why I brought them up. But if my new DS guy is any indication of their current Oriental I don't think it would be a great match. But if you like their 60cm body it would be good to ask around in the DT threads.

You can't go wrong hybridizing a pale pinkish resin with more normal pink. It might be a tad more noticeable because you want to keep the faceup, which is beautiful so I don't blame you, but if the difference is too much at first and it bothers you (trust me the pink will fade and you won't notice until one day you do) there are blushing tricks you can do on the body to make it less noticeable. It's easy and does not require blushing a whole body. I could literally go on forever, so I'll stop before that happens. But if you have any questions feel free to message me!

Then I have done my job. It is Marilyn Manson! (at least he's supposed to be XD He's really just a modded Saint)
      Thank you!

      • x 1
    54. okay, all the points for using Saint for MM - the sculpt is bang on, and the name is just a perfect cherry on top ((s)aint!) :D

    55. Thank you!! And I know right? That literally goes through my head constantly when I'm doing something with him XD

    56. @VampireAngel13 Thank you for the offer on hybriding tips. Depending on how strong my willpower is (deplorable when it comes to dolls, really), I may need some expert advice for body hunting for the aforementioned head.

He's a Saint? I should've known as I was instantly drawn to him. Perhaps someday I'll own the thus far elusive to me Saint. A smaller size than the standard big boys would be... heavenly.

    57. @Iron_Dog Any time! Hybrids are my favorite BJD subject!

He is! One quick mod (I sanded his jaw down) and he was good to go. I really want to do some more photoshoots with him. I just got a very large photography book of all Marilyn Manson and I am inspired XD
