Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. Hi! Are there any Dollshe Arsene 18M Classic 70cm owners? If yes, can someone please tell me/check for me, what wig size he should wear? From Leeke company. 8-9 or maybe his head is not that big and 7-8? Im waiting for my Arsene and I wanted to order wig and eyes for him before he gets here. Thank you!

    2. Been a long time since I have posted here, but there is talk on Instagram that Dollshe has stopped providing the silicone nubs on any new dolls they now cast, without a notice. So they come with the holes for nubs but no actual nubs, and are floppy thanks to this as that's not the way they were meant to move originally. Has anyone here got any experience about this? Have your recently made dolls still had the nubs in place? It's really sad if they retire the silicone nub system, I always loved it. But on the other hand, it may be they indeed cannot keep making dolls at the insane prices they now have, if they intend to include everything they used to.

    3. @vauhtikatti it worries me that he would discontinue them without notice, but not patch those unsightly holes in the dolls :?
when he originally announced them my immediate reaction was "great. and in a few years these will go bad or get lost and the doll will have weird holes all over! (the ones in the neck being the worst)". This is kind of worst of both worlds.

I think I read somewhere that someone replaced theirs with pencil erasers! I don't remember if that was for fashion or classic size though.

    4. Erasers sound Clever! I was thinking about building up my own nubs with hot glue as well, in 3 years when I see my doll

      • x 5
    5. I already glued in two neck ones on my Arsene. No nubs suck. I like the way they work but at least there are two solutions already. I wonder if anyone has asked poor BJDiva about this.

    6. oh gah on top of the resin colour change that's another annoyance... I'm going to find out on Tuesday what that means then... My Dollshe order from 2018 finally cleared customs after they'd sat on it for a week deciding what VAT charge to drop on me. Ausley Love on original body, and Amanda body that will now not match the head it was ordered for, both potentially without kips here I come...

    7. I'm glad I only ordered two boys a year ago. The color change is the biggest disaster for me with 20 heads although I've found bodies for many now. No way I'd get another Dollshe at my age!

    8. that's the exact same thing I did, like a week or two apart on the orders. Wonder if wait times will be even longer since the sales. Well I knew what I was in for,so here's to waiting!

    9. i'm so weak. i have 2 payments left on David & Grant, and i just started an Aramis. what is wrong with me.
nearly did the Adonis. halp somebody stop me

i guess it will be interesting to see what happens with the stoppers. with 3 dolls, maybe i will make a mold to make my own.

    10. @Grimalkin you can start a business. I will be your first customer.

    11. well, heck, it might take a while since i won't see any of the dolls until 3 years later

i was sort of just thinking out loud, but if it's not a violation of anything? eeep
on my own dolls, i might just fill the holes permanently and call it a day, but i guess some folks might want to have them be removable still.

it seems like they are no different than kips, elastics or hooks, "mechanical parts" - not like hands or feet yeah?
i've been working on creating some unique small accessories in UV resin anyway...
if the originals were just silicone, i would think RTV might work? unless it was a tougher formula... hmmm

does anyone have both the 28M and the 18M bodies to know if the plugs are the same size in both?

    12. I can help answering that question:

the last model to have the spots for the silicone plugs was Arsene. The old 18M and the 18M grown mystic body do not have them. Neither does my Khan, checked all three. I believe Diana do ant have them either.

I compared the silicone plugs on my 28M and the Arsene body and they have the same size plugs for the hip joints.

the neck ones are smaller and the knee and elbow ones appear to be the same size as the hip ones.

worth noting that the dolls I’ve gotten between 2014 and now have not had the plugs inserted in the knees and elbows . Just the hips and shoulders sometimes. They did come with extras, so those may be the ones for the empty spots

my most recent, Michael Bowie, arrived in March and had the plugs I. The hips and shoulders only.

not a dealbreaker for me , as their functionality is Not impressive; good idea was that did not work as well as expected. Sueding , leather or hot glue ,seem to yield better results.

just a thought: it is likely that Dollshe may not be able to obtain the plugs at this time; many supply. chains have been severely disrupted.
Rather than to wait for a supply of silicon plugs they may never come, he may have decided to send out dolls without them.

      just a thought.

    13. 100% silicone aquarium adhesive can be squeezed out in a bead, left to dry and then chopped to the right size. (I'm not in need of them but I work in a variety store with a hardware dept, and that's what I'd do)

    14. that’s a great tip!
      Thanks!!

    15. @MAITALIA thank you for the info! it's nice so many are the same size at least. maybe i can find an extruder that is the correct size. my brain is chewing on this now
but i got some pliver for some other floppy folks, so i guess i'll see what happens when they come.

    16. Silicone bathroom caulking would probably work, too, if you were trying to make your own nubs. I use that when making wefts for wigs and I've smear the inside of 2 mohair wigs that I dyed with it to both help give some grip on smooth resin heads and prevent dye transfer.

Neither of my Dollshe boys have the nubs. I'm uncertain of when Akusuo (Hound) was made as he's a 2nd hand purchase and Wu-Tyr's (Orijean) body was made in 2017. Both bodies are the Pure versions.

    17. 8-9 is correct, 7-8 is too small. I have ordered from leeke previously!

    18. OH wow! He's beautiful! :love

    19. Thank you very much! :)

    20. And my order showed up - uh if I work out how to get the potato shots off my phone onto somewhere that hosts I'll do that later.

The Ausley Love body is so much lighter than the Amanda one, in terms of pure weight despite their similar sizes which surprised the hell out of me! Love the Ausley sculpt to death in person, though the thinness of the resin in places does scare me a tad!

Uh - yeah the Amanda body came with the smaller silicone nubs at the neck joint, but alas, none of the larger ones in places like the shoulders/hips - I shall be working something out in the next week or so, because the body does seem to need them.

...And as predicted Fresh skin is now pink toned, not yellow toned... Which sigh... However, the head intended for the body was blushed heavily enough to mostly hide the difference, but urgh, I went for Dollshe so I wouldn't need to blush to match lol.

However, absolutely love the sculpting of both bodies - old Ausley and the newer 26F Amanda body, or whatever it's official name is! (When did Dollshe swap over from metal inserts to clear plastic ones btw? My most recent Dollshe order was during the last Dollshe-selling-Venitu run lol, so quite a while ago! Not sure there's any actual benefit to those pieces now they're just brittle looking plastic rather than metal.)

    21. Hello, first timer dollshe buyer here and I was wondering which skin is better: honey or pure?

    22. @Vetinari Congrats! It's interesting that there's so much weight difference between the bodies! They really are almost the same size. I have a mini Ausley and I adore her face.

@Demiurgo it's really a matter of personal opinion. I really like the darker shades in honey, but not the light ones like oriental or fresh. But it's also hard to find honey skin on a doll with an actual faceup sometimes too.

      • x 2
    23. @Thymeseer Thanks! I thought there was a deeper difference when I read the page about skins. I like honey colors better but there are so many choises I was struck by anxiety lol

    24. Honey gives a nice glow where the pure is more of a matte look if that makes any sense. One of my boys is honey mango (which I swear is more salted caramel than mango) and the other is pure oriental. I love the darker tone in the honey mango.

I have 2 other dolls (not Dollshe) in translucent/environmental resin and I think it works well with their skin tones despite being lighter. Ryzel is a BBD in peach resin and Quin is a JeiDoll in what I think is their normal (it didn't say on his sales page/CoA).

      • x 1
    25. Dollshe honeyskin resins are more resistent to UV light, more flexible - less breakable, and the colors go all the way through, making them easy to sand with little visible marks.
The feel is more organic than pureskin. Some people prefer how it takes color when painted. You almost have to see & touch it to judge for yourself.

      • x 1
    26. Yes, Diana doesn't have the nubs either (or holes for them). I sueded her to make her pose better, plus she has wiring in her arms for now.

    27. Now I'm really intrigued by the Honey skin :) I saw the mango skin and yes, it does really look like salted caramel and now I'm hungry lol And I also see they COST ohhh yeah, almost chocke on that 128 usd but I guess you pay for the quality, right?

I'm on the hunt for some pictures of the silver skin on the Dollshe flickr. I found this one but should I contact a wigmaker just to ask her about the color of her doll? I would feel awkward lol necromancer2

    28. The doll looks like he's in Modern Gray from what I can tell. Not totally certain, but the tones seem to match there?

    29. @Demiurgo I would look up faceups on dollshe honey skin before deciding, because of the translucency, I feel like not every type of face up would work on it, because it sometimes looks like its decals instead of paint on honey skin. I personally feel a lighter handed faceup looks really amazing and shows the beauty of honey skin better. I personally prefer pureskin better because to me, a larger variety of faceups show up better, and because pureskin is less opaque, meaning the sculpt details show clearer. You would be surprised at how opaque the honey skin is, I imagine its what fairy skin looks like, or edward the vampire skin looks like in sunlight lol...

Tom Cruise (pure copper), and Natalie (pure fresh) ordered in 5/2018
Amanda (honey raspberry), Diana (honey mango) and David (pure oriental) ordered 1/2020

Now I see about 3+ year wait times and I try to not read this thread or other threads with dollshe so I can be patient and not stress about wait times.

    31. Oh! He is exotic!

    32. Akusuo (honey mango Hound) is very appropriate in my mind to have the honey resin translucency as he is the God of Secrets, Wishes & Dreams and there should be a little something... more with him. I also FINALLY got his wig and outfit from SPO delivered (it was 50 days "in transit" after leaving Shanghai) and he looks smashing in them. I need to find a spare moment *laughs hysterically at that* to take a pic of him.

      • x 1
    33. @Iron_Dog - Great that you finally got your stuff. I can't wait to see Akusuo whenever you get a photo of him.

    34. @TatterPunk Oh, damn. Forgot pureskin has some grey skin as well. This one is so nice...! I looked at 60 + pages of the flick group and I only found that grey.

@GreenTeaSlug Yeah, I made some more research after reading your post and while the idea of having a vampiresque doll funny, I might incur in some problems since I like deep colored fantasy face ups (apparently I like the use of reds). Next time then XD I have to think carefully about a nuanced face up, now I'm totally sold for that modern grey XD

What about the body? Pose or Pose +? I see the differences in posing, but are there minus aspects?

Also, I want to thank everyone who is kindly taking the time and patience to answer my questions :)

    36. @petiteballerine your boy is handsome! And the color is absolute wonderful! Must have it now!

      • x 1
    37. I can't say anything about Dollshe grey but I have a decided weakness for grey resin and currently own 12 grey dolls from multiple companies.

I can, however, comment on having a lot of red blushing on a grey doll. Don't do it unless you want an orangy tone and for him to look like he has the worst sunburn in the history of forever. I bought Belial (SD Berial in grey) with the default face-up direct from SD and it looked like the poor boy needed a tub of aloe. I had to send him out to be wiped and re-painted because his head actually looked like a different colour than his body. I loved the elements of the face-up (which is why I ordered it) but I hadn't expected the heaviness of the blushing. SD was responsive when I emailed them about how heavy the blushing was and my disappointment with it and gave me a credit for the cost of the face-up.

      • x 1
    38. @Demiurgo Yeah, they go a bit crazy with the blush it seems. I have a Titiki head (WS) on the Phiel Gold Souloid and fortunately they didn't go crazy on him with the blushing.

Most of my grey dolls have very light blushing but that's also because I don't like heavily blushed faces in general.

    39. Oh no!! How long has this thread been here? I never got a notification for it. :(

    40. @petiteballerine What a handsome boy. That resin colour is so stunning!

I've recently become a bit obsessed with grey resin myself as well and getting another Dollshe in that colour is extremely tempting!! :abambi: Somebody stop me! :pout:

In the meantime while I try to stop myself from getting more dolls, I've finished up my Amanda after some modding to her mouth and teeth to turn her into a vampire. Please meet Isabelle!

    42. I have a quick question that I tried to search but found no answers with my keywords: are there two sizes of the Classic Maxi male heads around? I was wondering for hybriding purposes as I would love a 28m on the Arsene body. I remember that Amanda head was remade to a larger scale in 2018 and Khan in 2017, and there was an entry in Dollshe blog about it, but was this ever the case with the 28M guys? There's seemingly no blog entry about it, but I know Dollshe doesn't make blog entries about every change, so I ask just to be on the safe side. If there has been a size renewal for the guys, does somebody remember, which year was it? Thank you!

Edit: Okay, I did it. I bought a Rey Lewis head and I'm back in the floating head limbo. It's been two years since I had a 28M guy. I'm not getting him the 28M body for now, since two years is too short a time to forget what a pain that beefy boy was to clothe. Instead, I am planning to hybrid him with an Arsene body as there was a photo of Rey on Arsene body on Dollshe blog here and I think it looks good for what I have in mind.

    43. So, there is now a post on BJDivas Facebook page about the silicone nubs. I don't know if it is allowed to copy here or can be linked, but it is worth taking a look at if you're waiting on a doll that should come with the silicone joint system. Dollshe replied to BJDivas that they are not putting the silicone nubs in dolls anymore. Although I don't know whether this is a 100% permanent change or if they ever plan to start experimenting on alternative ways to make the silicone nubs, but from the post it seems like they've tried already and this is permanent for now. I do hope though that if the holes in joints are too small to fit the silicone packing anymore lile they claim, they'd just fill them with resin at least.

Edit: link to the post should be here.

    44. From a post on FB made by Tobi Hurting Login • Instagram

      Attention all dollshe doll owners!
Since dollshe has decided to stop making those joint plugs.
This is my experiment to see if silicone caulking would work like those plugs dollshe used to send. Now this is my first dollshe ever and i dont have experience with the joints before hand. But from what i can tell. It definitely works.
I can happily tell everyone. IT DOES!!!
its super simple and easy to do as well. I included a picture of the 100% silicone clear caulking i used. Its a small bottle i paid rounded 5$ for it. You can find it at walmart, lowes, home depot. (You can find any 100% silicone caulk at a hardware store im sure)
So snipped the tip of the bottle flat. And filled up EVERY empty hole i saw. Including in the arms and knee joints. I filled it up and let it over flow just a small bit and made these points as shown in the first image. It takes 30 mins to let the outside dry. So you can flip it and do the other sides of joints. And it takes 24 hours to cure before cutting. I used these scissors called "thread nippers" and they are the easiest and safest way to cut these flat. I tried using a razor blade and nicked the resin sometimes so these nippers are awesome for this. And i thought youd have to cut these super flat and even but you. Dont have to. Mine are all over the place and work awesome. His parts dont look like they are sticking out of the sockets.
I definitely would say that this was a success! So this is definitely an option if you'd like to do this for your dollshe or not. ^^ i hope this is helpful.

    45. @Demiurgo Thank you so much for that! I'm definitely going to try that with my dolls now! :o

    46. @Demiurgo - thanks for the great pictures! i definitely was overthinking this whole deal
i have 3 bodies coming in eventually.... feeling easier about it now, thank you!

    47. @Demiurgo Thank you so much for sharing! This is great to know even for older dolls, because the kips do tend to fall out and get lost anyways <_<

    48. To add to this - clear aquarium caulk is 100% silicone (has to be safe for fish) and can be found at most pet stores. A super thin layer is good for sueding joints that like to pop (I mostly use it on neck joints and a supia belly joint that likes to pop)

    49. @kagami @Grimalkin @sahoma No problem :) I'm glad this could help you all!

Also, thanks to this I decided to order an Ausley Love in modern gray!

    50. Awesome, thanks for sharing that! :D I honestly hate the silicone plugs, they'd keep falling out and then get lost down the leg. I tried supergluing some of them in and that didn't work out well. I'd already pulled all of them out and have been meaning to suede the joints the old fashioned way, but haven't gotten around to it. I'm definitely going to do this instead, it looks like much less of a hassle than cutting out the correct pieces of suede and gluing them in.

    51. Would anyone happen to have a comparison between the new Fresh and Oriental skintones? I'd like to put my old Bermann on a newer body but he's yellowed being 10 years old. A 100% match will be really hard, but I'd like to see what colour would be the closest...

    52. @kagami I have this old one, sadly I don't any longer own the new Fresh doll so I cannot take a better proper picture. There's Oriental and Fresh from 2017 and 2019, all spent their full life in dark without seeing almost any daylight, so there shouldn't be stains/yellowing.

    53. @vauhtikatti Thank you so much! That's a really helpful comparison :D It's so interesting to see such different colours over the two years and judging from these, 2017 Fresh might be my best option.. AAAHH How do I go about getting a 2017 Arsene body :shudder

    54. Yes! I also would love another old Oriental Arsene body which would solve many problems!

    55. I feel you guys with this struggle of trying to get an old resin tone Arsene body, only in copper oriental for me (so I'm not competing with you folks), as I got the Rey lewis head to be my burden and I still prefer Arsene body over the 28m one. Rey's lovely though, and I cannot wait to show him here once I finish his faceup.

    56. Yesterday I took photos of the heads I have and swap with the bodies I have so far that they work on. If you look at the guys in the Supreme tee on the Arsene body I bought secondhand, it turns out I need 3 more Arsene bodies in old oriental for my heads. I have ordered 2 new ones over a year ago. I will either have redo the heads to match the new ones (swapping two heads) or keep swapping these 4 on the old oriental.

    57. Speaking of confusing Dollshe things...are there two versions of the Arsene head? Old vs New?

I swore that I would never order from Dollshe due to the wait times, but I picked up an Arsene on the secondhand market and now I'm hooked on these big boys.

    58. I've shoved him everywhere already, basically since the forum is the slowest place to share phone photos, but here's my Rey Lewis! He'll still need the Arsene body, preferably something else to wear than a priest gown that belongs to another doll, and maybe a darker wig, I don't know. But at least he has a face now. It's probably been four years (?) since I got my first 28m guy, and ever since selling him I have wanted one of them in the big size.
