Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. @Nikki'sNewObsession congrats on your Saint! I think eye size depends a bit on which version of the Saint head you have (headcap, faceplate, etc. as they are all a wee bit different)? Ditto for clothing sizes re. body type, for example I have a faceplate Saint with 18M pure body. Let us know which ones your Saint has :)

Edit to add: My faceplate Saint uses 14mm flat back glass eyes, with a low dome. Any Classic "Hound" size clothes fit his 18M Purebody, but they were a bit tight in the booty, as he has more- ah, junk in the trunk! He can also wear SD size shirts width-wise across the shoulders, but they are a bit short in the arms and torso. Hope this helps.

    2. Oh, I tried to wait for Aramis and Dyana, but almost a year of waiting...
Every time "almost done", "have problems", "next week", "wait one more week" - I've dissapointed, and asked for money back (

    3. A Dollshe group shot, each of them on different bodies..........several different resin colors represented as well
In the back Amanda on the 28F classic body in fresh resin, Saint on the pure body in peach fresh honey resin, EN Diana on the 16F classic body in oriental resin and Arsene on the Arsene body in honey mango oriental. Up front are Ausley on her original Ausley body in oriental resin and Bermann on the pose plus 18M Classic body.........kind of ironic how that body is the worst poser of the lot!! He can't even stand on a stand without collapsing, so he sits all the time.

    4. @JinCIncy I love seeing them all together with their assorted bodies. Glad my Arsene is also on an Arsene body and wish I could find another Arsene body. That honey mango oriental is fantastic! He’s my favorite. And I am especially happy to see another EN Diana like my Yoo Jung!

    5. Thanks! We really don't see too many of the EN Diana's around, and I do love her too! Here is a close up shot of her and my Arsene. I love the honey mango oriental resin too, and if it was still a reasonable time frame to order anything from Dollshe, and you could still get the honey tones, I would get a Diana in that resin color. It's a beautiful resin color! I love the honey tones so much.

    6. My Hound (Akusuo) is in the honey mango oriental and it's a beautiful shade. I'd say my guy is a salted caramel kind of tan.

    10. Don't listen to the dolls! Danger, Will Robinson, danger! They'll make you do Things to your wallet that will take a long time to recover from.

    11. alright Dollshe friends... do you all think the official doll box is important collateral? i have an option to get a two year old order of at least 2 big boys 28M's finally delivered for no additional freight if i take them unstrung in a smaller box. how hard is it to string them? how much do you think the official box contributes to a resale if i do that later? thanks for your opinions :thumbup

-also been loving the pictures :love

    12. I've bought multiple dolls without a box. One was even directly from Soom (as an Xmas kit; it was $100 cheaper to buy him unstrung). I'd cautiously say a box might help with providence if a CoA wasn't available but it doesn't really "prove" anything since it is just a box. 2 of my 2nd hand guys came to me in boxes that weren't from the company they were from because it was what the seller had for shipping.

As for stringing, I can't comment as I've not needed to re-string my Dollshe boys. I think they're strung pretty normally compared to say... Iple but again I can't say for sure since I've not re-strung a Dollshe specifically. I would suggest that if you can have the seller leave the torso/arms strung together it'll make putting the doll back together slightly less of a pain.

      • x 1
    13. @Grimalkin With a new order, the Dollshe boxes are plain and boring. Not unique in any way. I don't think they would contribute to resale value at all. I'd just take them unstrung. It might even be safer for them to arrive that way, since I've seen lots of people getting dolls recently that have warped pieces due to heat + string tension. And you don't pay more money!

      • x 2
    14. Totally agreed with this. The current Dollshe boxes are just plain brown things with a lid and a ribbon tying it closed. I think earlier in this thread someone described it as a giant shoebox, which is a very apt description.

      • x 1
    15. @Thymeseer & @Snowy - thank you so much - that is great info about the plain box! i must of missed that other message about how it's changed recently, thank you so much!

@Iron_Dog - sometimes i really like getting the box since i like to store them in it, but i think just getting my order finally is going to win -snort- well the oldest order at least...

reading up a little, seems like each appendage is independently strung. i have a second hand David now, so i guess i can use him as a guide, but i hope i'm strong enough to get them tight enough to pose properly. thanks so much everyone, i really appreciate everyone's collective knowledge here :3nodding:

    16. @Grimalkin I dearly miss the old boxes. It hasn't been the same for me since Dollshe switched to plain brown boxes without any notification. But it's even worse when the dolls are now arriving in a small box, unstrung. I realize that large boxes take a lot of space, but they're ideal for those times when a doll needs a bit of time off. They're perfect for storing the dolls safely and securely.

      • x 3
    17. I keep all boxes as that's were 99% of my dolls are unless I'm doing something with them. For the few that came to me without boxes, I've fancied up boxes for them or made them a storage bag. I'm actually rather proud of the bag I made for Macian.

My MD 63cm Snake Demon came to me in an utterly gorgeous box. It even has a metal handle.

      • x 1
    18. Wow, I didn't know Dollshe switched to generic plain boxes. And now offering to ship orders without a box? That makes me even more concerned about the state of the business. Like he can't afford to get the custom boxes anymore and is now trying to save some bucks by not using doll boxes at all. Yikes. :(

      • x 1
    19. Yeah, he switched like... 3 years ago, I think? So sadly, it isn't that new, he's been doing it for some years now. :(

      • x 2
    20. I only own 18M body, which is pretty straight forward to string... apart from his junk. I kid you not, it connects to his head. And it likes popping up. So it's safer to use the "cup" option :D

Also, fair warning, Dollshe tends to send elastic that's way too thin, so it's better to get your own.

      • x 3
    21. this option to ship unstrung is supposed to offset the additional freight i might have to pay if i got the big plain box with the fully strung doll. since the order is so old, i guess it all costs a lot more now than original.

so it was a choice, to take it unstrung in a smaller box, or get the "new" regular plain foam box with a strung doll and pay more freight. i've seen the plain foam box with a Venitu, but i didn't know DS was doing the same for theirs.

most my crew is in boxes for me too, the few that came unstrung or without the company box i've cobbled together something as well. i got a really nice padded case with a very special doll, and it's large enough for about 3 to hang safely in it so that's my emergency rescue go bag i guess. would love to have a doll flat file, like 5ft/1.5m square, 10 drawers about 6in/15cm deep for easy access  but i'd prolly still keep the boxes since i'm sort of ocd like that. def takes up a lot of space.

omg @Morri_P. - i just straight up snort laughed out loud- connected to the head - that is the funniest thing i've heard all day, thank you  i do have some beefy Dollmore type elastic hopefully i can make it all work out :thumbup

    22. My pleasure, lol! One of those things you only hear in doll world!

      • x 1
    23. @Grimalkin The Dollshe box is even less nice than the plain Fifth Motif box, if you can believe it. Even with the 5th Motif one doubling as a shipping box, the foam is much more secure and everything is just so snug and safe. There's a foam cut-out in the Dollshe box but like, if you order extra parts they might not be in a foam cut-out that has holes for it, so Dollshe just puts those parts on top of the doll and then stick random pieces of foam in there. You're definitely not missing anything going the unstrung route. :P

      • x 2
    24. oh wow i've definitely had scratches happen from stuff like that.
well, i guess i will report back if it all makes it here safe, i hope each part is wrapped. :nowords:

    25. I want to take the foam cut-out stuff out of my Dollshe boxes because I hate it. I'll replace it with pillows I make myself but I need to go to the fabric store to get more batting. Considering we're in the midst of hideous humidity (it hit 41C/106F with the humidex today), humidity doesn't play nice with my asthma and it's a 4km/2.5 mile walk round trip, I'm going to be waiting to go to the fabric store for a bit.

    26. After many years, it seems like Dollshe has finally woken up and realized that they have a lot of problems. They have issued a notice few days ago admitting that the number of orders have decreased lately and they are begging people not to cancel their orders and give them another chance.....

Here is the notice --> In case of Delayed Deliveries - DollShe craft

    27. Repeating the same sob stories doesn't get dolls to owners.:sigh
I'm glad I haven't ordered anything from them in a while, though I do hope people who have ordered finally get their dolls.

      • x 11
    28. So... "please refrain from cancelling your orders" even thought the latest notice flat out says they aren't casting the head type or resin type I ordered 15 months ago...

      • x 6
    29. About the only upside I see to the notice posted is that they finally realize and admit to being the author of their own problems with delays. I don't doubt that the number of orders has decreased and that cancellations have gone up over the insanely long wait times. No matter how much we love the dolls, when it reaches a point of literal years to get what you paid for in good faith (and that fact is widely known), people aren't going to be willing to part with their hard earned money and will show their displeasure with the lack of orders.

As @SteamWitch said, it is basically the same sob story that we've heard over and over again but at least there seems to be a glimmer of hope that steps are being taken to get things back on track. I still think it'll take a good while though as it would seem logical that Dollshe needs to honour the existing backlog of orders with body/head types and resin colours that they're no longer going to offer/produce. To not do that would more than likely cause some people to cancel and demand their money back.

    32. I have a question about CoA's. I have a Hound (2017) that I bought 2nd hand. He came with 3 heads (OE, SA, IM) and I only use the IM head for Akusuo. I have a friend who is interested in one of the other heads I don't use. Does it matter which head CoA I give her with whichever of the heads she chooses (OE or SA)? The very last number of the serial number on the head cards are different but consecutive (3 & 4).

Oddly, there's also only 2 CoA's for the heads although I have 3 of them (honey mango oriental & all perfectly match the body, which I also have the CoA for). I am assuming that the 2 black cards are for the heads and the 1 white card is for the body.

In addition to the "credit card" style CoA's for 2 of the heads & body, I have a laminated cert of some kind but the handwriting that's in English is very hard to read (it's slightly blurred) although it just appears to be people's names that assembled the doll for the most part. At the bottom of this cert (handwritten) it lists 18M Classic, Pure body, OE, SA, IM Hound head (all).

    33. @Iron_Dog - The white card is indeed for the body. I'm not entirely sure which of the two black cards would be for the head, but logically I would think (going by the numbers 3 & 4 that you mentioned), #3 would be for the OE, #4 would be for SA, and I don't know if Dollshe ever started handing out CoAs with the IM heads given they're newer. That's about all I can offer in the way of help.

    34. @Quiet and Insane That's very helpful. Thank you. At least it gives me some idea of what to do. I suppose I could contact Dollshe to ask what goes with what but who knows what type of response (if any) I'd get.

I'd been toying with putting the heads up for sale as I have zero plans with them. Then my friend recently bought a collection of dolls from a friend of theirs who's spouse died (and who the dolls belonged to) and one of the heads in the lot was of a doll I'd tried to buy last year but was unable to. When my friend mentioned she'd always wanted a Hound it seemed like the Dolly Gods were smiling upon me (while being Lawful Evil, because yet more resin as I'm literally waiting for a doll to be delivered in the next few days) as she's down with doing a head trade.

    35. @Iron_Dog - Yes you could always ask Dollshe to confirm, but who knows how long they'd take to answer.
Ooh a head trade's not a bad idea at all!

    36. @Quiet and Insane I've never done a doll trade before so this is kind of exciting for my wallet *laughs*. The other Hound heads are beautifully painted by Barbelo (they came to me that way) and despite my fondness for the SA head, I'll let it go in a heartbeat to get the head I want. I still need to see the head (and body the head is on) in person as well as my friend seeing the Hound heads I have but we're both feeling like it a done deal. She got a bunch of clothes, shoes, wigs and eyes out of this bulk purchase, too, and naturally I've seen several outfits and 2 wigs that I like. I think my wallet is still going to hate me when all is said and done.

    37. I would be really excited to see older orders be delivered sooner than later. I only placed mine last winter, and I knew going in that I should be ready for a 3 year wait. I do keep in mind when watching the wiki that just because an older order might have been filled, it doesn't mean that the new owner will post an update. Not everyone that buys joins in on the thread. I bought my Saint some time ago now, and it was a second hand sale. I know that there have been many, many changes for Dollshe since then. I'm sure there will be more as time progresses.
@Iron_Dog Trades are always really fun in my experience. It's even better to be able to avoid shipping.

    38. @mollym Avoiding shipping cost is always a good thing especially when Customs fees can come into play. The doll I have incoming right now spent a week in Customs and he was only going from the US to Canada. So far it seems like he's scooted under the fees radar which is awesome.

I'd still like to have a Saint some day. Ideally as a fashion size but honestly it wouldn't take a lot of convincing to have me go for a large boy. Then again, my willpower where doll purchases are concerned is typically laughable.

    39. I don’t know where my willpower has gone. I have almost none. I attribute it to age because I’m old and could die anytime now, haha. So I should just buy anything I want while I’m able. I used to enjoy being smart with money but all bets are off now! I don’t seem to care a fig about smart.

    45. @Saba Thank you this is all very helpful information. Sorry for the delay in reply, I was hoping my guy would be home sooner. He's due to arrive this week. I believe he is a classic saint he can be seen here: https://www.flickr.com/gp/10958568@N08/sd015f
He has both the open eye and the sa heads. I'm so excited to get him home this week. Because they all vary so much I will wait for him to arrive to measure his head and try different eyes, before ordering him anything. So that will just leave clothes to figure out.

    47. I bought an Adonis EN head secondhand (new oriental) which arrived today in eight days from Russia to the US!! It was really easy to match my old oriental Arsene body using a pale yellow and a pale green pastel (to neutralize the red). Here is my new boy Moonshik.

I got my guy yesterday. And I finally had time today, to really enjoy him. I tried different eye sizes from my other characters to decide which size I like best for him and I will order them soon. He's just so beautiful I couldn't be happier. Here he is with his oe:

    52. A question for all of you faceplate Dollshe owners: how the heck can I make it stay on? I want to handle my lovely Saint more, but his face just likes to jettison itself to the floor. And I worked really hard on his faceup so this irritates me quite a bit.

    53. I added additional magnets to my Rosen head, but sadly that only helped marginally. I also have tape in spots that his wig will hide, but again it only helps some. In the end I just try to be really careful when handling him.

      • x 1
    54. I've no idea. Wu-Tyr is a faceplate while Akusuo is head cap and I'm always nervous about adjusting Wu-Tyr's head position because it pops off with the littlest provocation.

      • x 1
    55. @Thymeseer
I use eye putty/poster tack to keep mine on (the white kind so there's no risk of staining). I've used tape, but the poster tack seems to hold better. I roll out little 'snakes' and put them around the edge of the faceplate then just attach the plate to the headback.

      • x 4
    56. @Thymeseer I have a rubber band on my Saint’s head under his wig. The faceplate will still fall off if he were jerked around very abruptly but the friction across the temples is enough to keep it in place for general posing. I just bought a second faceplate that showed up with some bits of sticky poster tac stuff near the magnet area and that seems like a good solution too. The two together would probably be sufficient.

      • x 1
    57. @Thymeseer I taped my doll's faceplate on with painter's tape. I think washi tape would also work. Just anything that doesn't leave residue.
