Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. @Iron_Dog Dollshe has removed the statement about stopping the sales though. -_-
I think at the time of the announcement he said he was gonna do ONE LAST, and when I went back to see the exact end date the page had been removed from the website!
He has indeed stopped honey resin and all fantasy colours.

    2. @sahoma Ahhh. I hadn't seen the update about stopping/not stopping the sales. I think it would be a good idea to do so at least temporarily in order to get all the back orders done and out the door. But that's just my opinion.

It's a bit disappointing to me about the honey resin because I have 2 Hound heads in honey mango oriental that are just rolling around in a drawer (the Hound I purchased 2nd hand came with 3 heads) and matching the honey resin is... challenging.

    3. you know, I'd be totally willing to pay the "full price" for a few of his dolls... if I could get them in Honey resin. So nice to know that he's sticking to not offering what I actually really want and not keeping his word regarding the largest contributing factor to his backlog :doh

      • x 1
    4. oh yeah that WILL be a challenge! I would consider looking into companies with environmental resin (or old french resin dolls) and dying them to the right shade.

    5. @sahoma It's not an immediate need (or available cash option *sigh*) but the idea has taken root in my head to get them bodies at some point. They have gorgeous face-ups, too (they came that way) so it seems a waste to not be using them, right? At least that's the logic I'm sticking to.

Funny enough, I compared them to the tan resins I have and they're a pretty good match as far as colour goes with AoD tan from 2008. Only.... AoD stopped casting tan about 10 years ago.

    6. I feel bad for those of you who have heads and now no way to get matching bodies.

And for the record I'm now (again) officially in the "over a year club".

    7. My Diana is on her way (14 months) but incredibly slowly, I think she is coming by boat not a plane.

      • x 2
    8. @avrilpaeony - Did you order her directly through Dollshe? I ordered mine through BJDivas...
If yours is shipping....maybe...just maybe....mine won't be too far away? ;)

    9. I ordered direct as costs more to have parcels sent here from the US, shipped nearly 2 weeks ago but not arrived in UK yet.

      • x 2
    10. i may have proverbially shot myself in my foot... i asked to have the neck joints added on all, and resin colour changes on 2 of them to Fresh... my 28M's are at 15 months, and my 18M probably was fine to change at a measly 10 mos  i just felt like if i'm waiting this long i didn't want to be disappointed when i got them. :eusa_pray here's hoping it didn't really change anything...

      • x 3
    11. I gave in and emailed about my Arsene (21 months) and Diana (11 months) and they said Arsene will be this month and Diana in another 3... So essentially no news on Diana because we know 3 months actually means it's not even on their radar yet but I'm quite hopeful that Arsene will actually be here soonish!

      • x 5
    12. Crap! At that rate it will be two years till I get a Diana...:vein Sigh....

    13. I did mean to post that in the Waiting Room, apologies! But @luluna my Arsene is now in Packing status so maaaaaaaybe they were also being truthful about Diana!

Whilst I'm here though, has anyone tried swapping Diana's feet out for something a little smaller so you have more shoe choices? What type of joint is the ankle joint? I'm considering sanding a bit of her toes off otherwise *_*

    14. What resin type is your Arsene (and Diana)?
I'm curious if dolls cast in Pure are being prioritized over Honey to help clear out the backlog, especially if he's finally brought on extra people to help with casting, since apparently Honey is so difficult to cast and it makes the most sense to start new people working with the less challenging material

    15. Oooh Packing Status! (What does that mean? It sounds like something soon will ship.) :whee:

    16. They're both in Copper Oriental. Could be they don't have anyone experienced enough to cast the Honeys atm if none seem to be going out, I don't keep up with any honey resins though.

@luluna yeah sounds a lot like someone's putting a bunch of resin pieces onto strings and then popping those resin pieces into some sponges inside a big ole box! Dare I hope my sweet summer child might actually arrive home by summer??

    17. One of the Dianas I'm waiting for (13 months) is copper oriental, too... Who knows? :D

    18. My copper oriental Diana arrived last week, 14 months.

    19. Oooh mine will be Copper Oriental too! :kitty2

    20. I just purchased a classic maxi Amanda second hand, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for eye size? ^-^

    21. if she's the original smaller head, I like 10mm's in her!

    22. Okay, yeah I was surprised by how small her eyes are. 10mm’s would definitely work, thanks! :)

    23. Did you get your Carl yet? It has been over 3 months. Haha

    24. I feel like the sketch pre-orders will be years rather than months. I ordered Leo based on sketches, so that was something I had to consider strongly before taking the plunge.

      • x 1
    25. I was assuming 3-ish years, because regular sculpts take around 2

      • x 1
    26. I know this about dollshe but on the official product page, they wrote 3 months. So I was wondering whether they would keep it or not.

    27. They will not! There is no printed (let alone cast) prototype. I've been waiting exactly 6 month for Maya and I am ready for two more years. :aninja:

    28. Yeah.... Dollshe blatantly lies about the timelines on their doll production—that or months actually means years in dollshe-land. Maya was gorgeous though, so I’m excited to see her when they have a printed version.

      • x 7
    29. I am waiting for a Classic Maxi Maya, too. And I paid my last installment for a Classic Maxi Marco. No already available sculpts here, although I wish to add a Diana to my waiting list. But for the time being, I'd like to invest my money on dolls I am going to receive in a shorter time frame.

I don't know if printing has made the production shorter, maybe somewhat easier. So I can't figure what keeps Mr Dollshe from finalizing the 3D sculpt prototypes he has already made.

    30. I just wanted to share that I Just received yesterday my Dollshe Diana 61cm in Copper Oriental. I waited for 1 year and 2 months. They initially told me that my order will be done by 6 months but due to the pandemic and their usual slow time for the production it's less than what I expected of 2-3 years.

BTW where do you get shoes for her? She is by far has the longest/biggest feet in my collection. I had already trouble looking for shoes for my Iples... now this lady. LOL

      • x 3
    31. I don't have this doll in particular.. but had the same issue with my Unoas. I searched for Boy Shoes with the other same doll size keywords (1/3, SD, in my case) and was able to find shoes that had a long enough inner length :)

    32. @BlueSand I have not received mine, but I've been recommended SD17 boy shoes!

    33. I posted in the Dollshe ladies thread recently with a few shoe suggestions.:)

    34. Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I've been on the forum, but I've just realized that it's been a year since I paid off 3 Dollshe doll layaways and I haven't heard anything about deliveries. It looks like the company is still active, but have people been receiving their dolls? The waiting list doesn't look like it's being updated regularly.

      • x 2
    35. @Lady_addiction Oh, the list is actually fairly well updated as far as I know. People are just randomly and rarely getting dolls. It's roughly 18 months average for most people getting their dolls, but there's a number of people on 3+ years wait.

      • x 2
    36. Wow! Thanks for the info! I thought I was being patient but 3+ years! I did email Dollshe to inquire today, so I hope I get some reply at least.

    37. There's a new boy on their homepage - Teo, so grateful I only collect girls!:XD:
Looks like Adonis and Diana have been already printed in the Classic Mini size. I can't even remember, there has been a Diana for sale in that size. :ablink:

      • x 2
    38. Oh no, Teo is my type of male doll! He looks like Lisa's younger brother. I don't collect much boys either, but I think he would make a pretty cute woman :sneaky I'm not ordering anything until I get my 2 current orders though xP

And yeah I noticed that on IG and I also don't remember seeing sales for 55cm Diana! Maybe he's planning on it after the prototype is complete? That would be a nice change for him

    39. Finally I ended up ordering Lisa in 51cm, Diana should be smaller?!
Teo’s neck hole might be too big for a women body. I actually enjoy looking at pictures of male dolls, but somehow never really wanted to own one. Hopefully we will see printed and cast prototypes of these new sketches soon. I like all the new faces. Hiring this new sculptor was the best decision he had made for years. She is so talented! On the one hand I don't want to support Dollshe because of how he treats customers and dealers, on the other I want to support HER and see more and more of her work in the future.

      • x 1
    40. @quake I am curious about this new artist. Where did you find info about her? I am also visiting DollsheCraft IG at times but everytime I learn just a little about new changes.

      • x 2
    41. I said 55cm semi-randomly. I think that's the boy's height. I didn't check the girls. :sweat

the 18M neck is pretty big, but I'm not too worried. I've seen people make girl hybrids of iplehouse boys. I could probably hide the size difference under long hair. I would probably get the classic mini version anyway (if they make one)

I didn't know it was a new sculptor! :O I really do like her style :aheartbea

edit: Just now seeing Dollshe did make some changes about orders. The discount is less big AND the new doll is not being sold as a fullset! I must say though... the non-sale price of $790 seems really steep for a basic blank doll.

    42. Yes, the 55cm was the height of the boy. To the best of my knowledge it has STILL not been produced and it's been almost 3 years since Dollshe announced it (I was in on the original first order but cancelled after 18 months with 0 progress and countless lies about when it would be finished).

    43. So she's the one that designed Marco, Maya, Leo, Carl, and Lisa? Wild.

    44. Ugh, I love Teo, why are they doing this to us :...(
He would be such a good 'dark' brother to the Leo I ordered, but I really must resist adding another Dollshe prototype to my waiting list!

    45. @quake This is great. Thank you! I have looked at her IG page and I really like what she does. Even her illustrations are beautiful. Supporting her would mean agreeing with the actual Dollshe policy about orders, but I hope that she will be an indipendent artist someday, crafting her dolls.

    46. So I'm thinking of getting the 28M male body (King Corey) but I want a different joint combo that the ones offered on the page. Since the sale ends in 5 days, should I wait for them to respond to my email (sent last night), or do I go ahead and order, and then send an email re my order number? Since this is a pretty old sculpt, I'm hoping it won't take as much as 2 years??! Maybe?

      • x 2
    47. @mxwutter It really depends on what's most important to you and your circumstances. It's sort of a crap shoot what doll might be produced over others. Some folks do wait years for delivery, others get theirs in a few months. It also slightly depends on the resin color you choose, the darker pigments can leave stains in the molds so those are usually cast in molds after lighter colored resins. The cost of making a good mold is about the same as the resin that fills the mold 10 times over. Quality silicone is $$$ and resin isn't an inexpensive product.

If you might move in the next few years or have a tendency to sell dolls when money gets tight, it may be something to consider. If you are well-settled and have a cushion that makes you feel secure, then it might be worth a potential wait. Either way, it's a very personal decision. I would not have been comfortable before the past year or so to do such a long wait. If I was an older person, had any sort of predictable instability in my near future, there's no way I would try to pre-order from Dollshe. However, I'm at a good spot right now, don't anticipate a move for several more years and I've finally reached a comfy spot in my life/career where retirement is still a ways away, but I don't have any kids at home either.

    48. How long the sculpt has been in production isn't much of an indicator of wait length, and King Corey is one of the newest sculpts for that body and seems to be a bit more uncommon. He's gorgeous though and there really should be more of them floating around ;)

There’s at least one, King Corey that is, in sapphire Blue in the works.
Might reach me sometime this millennium:cool:

    50. King Corey is the only doll I want from Dollshe that I haven't ordered! I'd love to have him so badly, but I refuse to order again. I'm hoping I'll find a second hand one some day. I can dream!

    51. Hello everyone! It's been awhile. The new sculpts are so beautiful and such a departure from Mr Dollshe's own style. I'd always wondered why they looked so different and it's nice to see the artist behind those beautiful new faces :XD:

I'm also dropping off a photo of my Eiji :)

    52. Hi all, So I have a 61 Classic Diana, and she has the neck joint - Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to string her? I can't find any info online, and I've never strung her before - or any dolls. It's kind of holding me back because I finally have all the tools but I still can't seem to figure it out - unfortunately, she was strung about a year ago and I don't remember how it was. If anyone could be of possible help I'd appreciate it.

    53. Howdy long waiting people, hoping for you the sculptor gets the dolls cast.

A photo i've been practising.. (i'm eventually going to cave into something nice for the poor boy)

    56. Don't worry about the sale ending in 5 days, he basically runs sales continuously. The countdown timer is always there, I guess to make it seem like the sales are limited? But yeah, like others have said, don't expect less than a 2 year wait for anything from Dollshe.

      • x 5
    57. @sno4wy That's so sneaky. I was quite stressed out thinking I'll never be able to afford it ever again.

I think I'll hold out for now, 2 years seems incredibly long. Hopefully once they fix whatever they said would be fixed by moving all sales to their own website, the timeline would become a tad better? But then, if they're always doing sales, how could they possibly catch up...

    58. I completely stopped receiving notifications from this thread for...months.
So uh, what have I missed over in DollShe land?
