Dollshe Discussion - Part Nine

Aug 13, 2016

    1. I ordered from Dollstown pretty recently (May) and received my order quickly (July). They seem to be functioning normally and not backlogged so far as I can tell.

    2. @BlitheFool That's interesting. So, the casting team can do it, just not for Dollshe dolls, it seems.

We have had many "discontinuations" from Dollshe. Sometimes absolutely nothing happened and it was all business as usual. However, on occasion, there followed a hiatus, sometimes of a substantial amount of time. It's the uncertainty that one day it might actually happen that gets us. Every time.

    3. @MadamMauMau - I had been under the impression that Dollstown was just using Mr.Dollshe's studio to cast their dolls (since they never seem to fall behind) but, looking at the company addresses, it seems like it has to be Mr. Kim's team doing the casting for Jonghak. Their offices are several hours apart. Perhaps that explains some of the perpetual backlog at Dollshe studios.

    4. There are several companies and sculptors using Dollshe's casting service. It's separate from the main sales/casting site. He must have a dedicated team for such work.
I can't remember who it was, but I saw "Copper Oriental" offered from somewhere new recently. small atelier.

what on earth is that made to order 1/1 made by Mr K just for you, for $70,000 notice? I've been looking at this page for some time. :doh group orders of 30 dolls at a time?
and he's having trouble with our little numbers.

    5. I thought Mr Kim cut right back on who he was casting for, as an attempt to free up resources to catch up with his own casting. And then it appears his casting team walked out or were sacked... I now can't remember whether we made it up for ourselves that he would cut right back to Dollstown or whether he said it himself. Either way, it clearly hasn't happened. And he is backed up again. *Sigh*

    6. I remember him saying that he was not accepting any new customers for his casting services, but that he was keeping services for casting customers that he is and has worked with before.

Since Dollstown kept him in business for the time that he was not selling his own dolls , I think it's highly unlikely that he would drop them as a casting customer.

    7. I think I may send them a message about shipping even though I really didn't want to add to the backlog. Since they told me the first week of October back in August when I asked to pay off my layaway early if my order was going to be ready to ship soon. I just want to know if I can book a faceup slot for November or just wait until January since I hate trying to ship during the holidays.

I don't even know what to think about the Order-Made service :| how he is going to do that, and work on all of these other projects I have no idea and then 70k for a ooak....his decisions boggle the mind :?

    8. AaloriRian, it would be highly inadvisable to book a faceup slot for November. The only thing that is an absolute certainty about DollShe is that you won't know that your doll is shipping -- until it has either shipped or already arrived. The more messages they have to answer, the more that will become a justification for additional delays.

:wantshipping: Arsene -- at nine months and counting. I suspect that we will be in the one year club before this young man ships.:wantshipping:

    9. I seem to recall An Jong Hak saying that his dolls were now cast on a specific not-to-be-messed-with schedule that he had negotiated with Dollshe, so that his business did not suffer the terrible setbacks that used to happen.

    10. Now that is good business planning.

    11. "In theory" exactly, and we are back to the time and space continuum conundrum that is DollsheCraft, a parallel universe that twines around ours in unexpected ways. Stand by for changes.

    12. what pisses me off is that he's holding up all the dolls, but wouldn't give me my 5% (silver member) discount because the dolls are not finished. now who's fault is it? I ordered Grant in May, then 3 18M boys in July, and Ausley in mid August. and NONE of them arrived despite everyone says the 26F should be done quicker. He took my money quickly though.
I really wanted to order a David, but he's doing a very poor job to convince me. I get it, he needed more time to work on the dolls, and I'm ok with that, but at least give me this discount that I earned fair and square.

    13. The Company Service Feedback thread for Dollshe was started in 2010 but there are only 19 posts and I made one of those last year during the "all caught up time" and yet there is almost 1000 posts in two months on this Thread alone.

    14. Well, there's a cure for what ails us. Stop buying Dollshe dolls for a while at least.
      Don't buy a product you can't see.
I don't want to punish Dollshe, but there are so many really cool dolls out there

    15. Yes, unfortunately we are all part of the problem. He really has no motivation to make changes when people keep giving him money for his bad business practices.

I do think that after I receive my Saint I will be done with Dollshe for little awhile. I do love his dolls, but I think I can deal without the drama! Plus hopefully when I get my boy I won't need anything.... Let's hope, haha!

    16. @petiteballerine tell that to the people who wanted Bermann LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
I am torn between David Kuncci and Doll Granado's Pluto.
Pros for getting Kuncci now is the full set. Cons is a long wait.
Pros for Pluto is free face up (Special October event), but I am not sure about this Chinese company. Especially a lot of recast dolls are from china, and I am no expert in BJD world. #INeedSomeoneOlderAndWiserTellingMeWhatToDo

    17. Granado is a reliable company with a very talented artist who also happens to know how to run a company (or has the wisdom to get someone to do that for him). Do not knock them for being Chinese. Many fine artists are Chinese.

    18. @SalmonNugget - Granado are probably one of the best Chinese companies out there. Crocus really knows his stuff, his sculpts are gorgeous, their dolls are excellent quality, and they company in general is super friendly and helpful. You'd have Pluto home by the time DollShe even started casting David.

    19. Cosigned on Granado. I have several of their dolls and have never been disappointed. Great customer service too.

    20. oh Thanks @Therealwalter and @Quiet and Insane @BlitheFool I'm super tempted right now.
I'd like to know which Granado skin colour matches with Dollshe pure fresh the most?
I'd like to get Grant a fraternal twin brother. That is if I could come up with 350 dollars in 2 weeks or so...

    21. Probably white? Granados NS is like a pale NS yellow with a hint of peach, and Dollshes fresh is more a pale pink with some grey. But I remember reading that someone got a custom color from them so... maaaybe they do custom orders?

      • x 1
    22. @SalmonNugget - Granado NS is darker than Dollshe's Pure Fresh. It's pink-y with some yellow notes. Kind of Volk-ish- though it's had some variation in recent years. Their WS is a rose white- not paper white.

Edit- meanae beat me to it! :)

    23. noted thanks. i'll take that in consideration.
      i guess I have 2 weeks to decide :-P

    24. One really cute bodyy

    25. That body has one of the same issues the Khan body does imo.. the shoulders look bunched up, like he's really tense or something :\ eh.. I prefer the old 18M pure body for sure.

    26. I like the body which isn't good news. Now, I wonder what he's done to the heads.

    27. I like the new body too, though the announcement doesn't affect me personally (I have zero interest in the 18m line, even if I still think the sculpts are nice - they're just not for me).

The line-up of all four current male bodies actually looks great, and goes a long way for making Khan's body look like good body diversity rather than as odd as it looks on its own. If I had infinite money, I'm sure I'd be happy to purchase one of all four body types just to have the diversity.

    28. I like the new body, particularly the shoulder line. If he's still offering this body in a Pose Plus version, I'll be delighted.

    29. Thankfully I don't care for the new body so I'm definitely safe. But it's good that there are people that like it!

    30. :D It says he will be in the post, so pose+ is happening!

    31. I can understand potential issues with it though - the shoulders certainly are a bit more strained for example (though not as much as Khan). I wonder if there will be the option to have Arsene's body instead, in case you wanted more relaxed shoulders/a different mood?

    32. Wow. The new body line up is so beautiful!

    33. Hmmm... Dollshe's website is showing the Grown boys as "sold out." I hope not... I was planning to order... maybe he's just adjusting the listings. :sweat

    34. Yeah, I'm safe. Hopefully he'll eventually sell the heads and bodies separately.

    35. The new body is not to my taste at all, I was seriously hoping he would keep an element of the original hound body there. The shoulders look tense, neck looks quite short and the bum looks quite flat. Kinda regretting my Bermann order now :(

    36. @callum91 I guess you could test his cancellation policy? It seems like you should be able to since you ordered sight unseen.

    37. Ah that's a shame Callum, to have ordered and then found out that the body isn't what you'd hoped. :(

    38. ...ok, whew. The character I had in mind for my saint has a body my partner and I jokingly call "the Spaghatta Nadle" (in honor of Hyperbole and a Half), and this lanky long-ness is very suitable. Even the shoulder hunch (he is also a tense Nadle).

What I don't entirely like is how narrow the hips are - not in general, but the legs seem super scrunched together like someone pinched his pelvis. Oh well.
