Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen

Nov 28, 2018

    1. This reminds me how much I want a Dollshe Berman so bad since 2007. I believe it was Pure Body at that time. After 13 years, I finally managed to get my first Dollshe BJD, but I fall in love with Saint instead LOL.

    2. I understand falling in love with Saint.

    3. @Shire13 ebay has tons of shoes that fit dollshes, and many of them are less than $30. idk what kinda styles you're into but, just for an example, here's a pair of modern sneakers with a 10cm insole, a pair of knee-length boots with a 9.5cm insole, and some easy slip-ons with a 10cm insole!
searching terms like "uncle" or "70cm" or sometimes "SD17" can get you hundreds of results. always check the description of course, the (good ones anyway) will have the dimensions there.

it's only been the last maybe like 3 years i've seen a MUCH bigger uptick in larger (male) BJD clothes/shoe sizes, and it's finally my time to shine, my IOS/DC hybrid has feet literally the same size as a pukipuki:horror:

    4. In regard to shoes, I've been using Iple EID sized shoes on all my Dollshe bigger boys (28 body, Arsene body and Mystic body), and they work fine.

    5. Dollshe site has been going on and off multiple times lately, now it's been down for 2 days or so? This is honestly starting to make me super nervous!

      • x 2
    6. @crowtree it is odd, you could email them just to ask if everything is ok? Last I corresponded with them, they replied in 2 days. Hopefully it’s a problem with the web hosting. Good luck!

Also iplehouse’s shoes have been good for me, after checking the measurements of the shoe with the foot.

    7. Me too, I'm also nervous. It's already the third day.

    8. I've found promptness of replies to be hit or miss with Dollshe. Sometimes I'd get a response within 48 hours. Other times, a week can pass of radio silence. I'm hoping that it's just website weirdness as they were apparently changing hosting or something very recently.

I'm also waiting on a doll and it's loooong past the time to be able to file a PP dispute/claim if it came to that. Sometime this month is the projected date Dollshe said they'd be sending out my boy (I'm in on the first order period of the new 55cm boy) but I'm not holding my breath on that as Dollshe is rather notorious for blowing deadlines and stupidly long wait times.

    9. Well the website is back up again at least, hopefully for good this time! I kinda give up on emails for now, though they do reply quickly these days, when he gets to the classic minis he gets to them.

    10. My last outstanding Dollshe doll order came home on February 15th. Over an 18 month period I received two traditional females on the original Ausley body; a headless original Ausley body; a honey resin Bernard female on the original Ausley body, and finally, Adonis. IN the interim period I ordered (and received) a few SartoriaJ outfits (I couldn't resist the military uniform) and a few extra pairs of hands.

That was a very long haul. Now, to get some of the "new kidz" faced up!

      • x 3
    11. Wow, what a haul @Julie M! I'm keen on seeing all of them. :)

    12. Congrats Julie! It will be nice to see them.

And a little Pub life for the thread. Julian and Color with some friends. I think Color is about to fall out of his chair, it was a long night.

    14. Hmzzz, could anyone tell me if you ever switch body from Venitu to different Dollshe heads, or Venitu head on different body? I'm getting Venitu and Saint, so I want opinion for that first. I want to try Saint head on Timeless body, and Venitu head on new Mystic body. Does that sound right?

    15. Grown Saint, or the older version? Because if it's the older version, it won't fit on the Timeless body.

    16. I believe that is Grown Saint (the newest listing on Dollshe website). Or I could be wrong because I've never owned any Dollshe BJD.

    17. Popping by with some Persephone spam. It's so nice to see new dolsl coming in!

    18. @demi.yu - Ah that's probably a Grown Saint then. I can't help you there. Maybe ask in the 5th Motif thread?

@rianne - She always looks so flawless that I'm seriously considering a couple of female dolls now. How dare you tempt me!

    19. I may be wrong but I believe the site is taken down manually while they make updates. . . changing prices due to promotions and sales ending.

She's GORGEOUS! (I apologize for screaming.) But she's GORGEOUS ― I LOVE her face up and the sculpt of her eyes! (I apologize for so many exclamation marks.)

Is there a magical page with algorithms, scripts, or formulas to help me determine what clothing from other lines will fit my Dollshe 18M Arsene body? I believe he may be 69cm (although I chose 70cm) ― but I also chose the Arsene body due to his character being an adolescent. I'm naive, innocent, and still so inexperienced with this world of ball jointed dolls!

    20. Iple SID stuff fits Arsene pretty well in my experience, except for the pant length may be slightly short, as Arsene is taller. SID shirts fit him well though.

    21. I'm delving into the Iplehouse site. . . I need more money!

    22. He can wear some EID shirts as well, if you don't mind them being a little baggy...……...This shirt is a SD sized shirt from SartoriaJ.on Etsy. You can find lots of stuff on Etsy for SID and EID guys. My guy is a "period" guy

    23. Since his measurements are on the website, you can also always order custom sized clothes (for that, I reccomend Alice’s Collections!) there’s usually about a 2 month wait, but a lot of their clothing can come in custom sizes, and some of the clothes that can’t also have an EID size that should fit just a bit loose!

    24. My Arsene is a “period” guy as well... Willem from the Netherlands... not sure of the timeframe yet... I’m writing a story involving my heritage... there will eventually be a young “mixed-race” woman from equatorial Africa... she doesn’t know her father... her mother was beaten and raped my a number of white men... Willem and Katura meet on the beach... he works on a small ship prior/during the heinous transatlantic slave trade...

Baggy on “period” guys would have been a common thing, I’d imagine... love the shirt!

    25. @warmshadows Thank you! She is a Supia Ji-in and the only female sculpt I've ever loved enough to own, lol.

Venitu needs a neck lengthening mod or some kind of doughnut to fit on the Mystic body because his neckhole is so deep. I haven't gotten around to a permanent fix yet myself, instead shoving a wadded-up paper towel in his neck when he is on that body. Looks fine from the outside. :sweat

Sorry, I don't own a 5th Motif body, but I just compared a Venitu neckhole to a Grown neckhole. The Grown is slightly smaller and much shallower. I'd hazard a guess that a Grown Saint may go on well enough to stay put, but the neck will look long. (If you ordered your Saint on the Mystic body, btw, you should receive a Grown head.) Be sure and let us know how it goes. Head swapping is fun.

As an aside, I know I'm in the serious minority as far as taste, but I actually have my older faceplate ver. Saint on the Mystic body now and I love it. He looks a little odd from some angles but none the camera seems particularly able to capture, especially with the added bulk of a wig and the fact my guy is a chronic sloucher. (Face tilted slightly forward = head looks larger to camera view. Good enough for me; I was already utilizing that sort of trick to make his girlfriend's head not seem massive next to his by comparison.) The neckhole does not line up perfectly, either, but... I can take pictures if anyone is curious.

    26. Do Dollshe heads (Hound, Husky, Saint etc.) fit on Loongsoul or Spiritdoll bodies..? Does anyone know?

    27. Hey, guys? Have you seen this?
I've just seen this and it freaked me out. These boys got me into the hobby and there is no way I am able to buy another one after the first I ordered at the end of the last year.
(Also, all the parts for 28m disappeared and all the 28m boys are marked as sold, so... Yeah...)
      What's your opinion on this?
I really wanted to get more of them, but now I don't know. I might not have a chance :(

      • x 1
    28. @Shire13 Excuse me while I go laugh, and just so you know, I'm NOT laughing at you. But we've seen this Dollshe game before. He's had so many final discontinuation sales only for the items to make a reappearance. As they say, I'll believe it when I see it.

      • x 3
    29. Hey, I'd rather be laughed at than eternally sorry for not saying a word. As I said, I am new in the hobby, so that's why I asked for opinion of others, who might have more insight.
Now I'm glad I did. So, it is "normal" for Dollshe to "whine and cry Final Sale!" and then just sell the "discontinued" dolls again?

    30. Yes I really wonder what Mr. Dollshe & Company think "final" means??
Because I also ordered my ausley love under a "final sale" but her sculpt is not retired at all.

    31. @Shire13 Unfortunately, yes, this is pretty much standard operating procedure with Dollshe now. I've also bought heads during a "final sale" only for the heads to still be offered months, and even a few years later. At this point it really just comes down to, how much anyone's willing to risk that Dollshe might actually mean it this time, and if they'll be disappointed if he actually does. Granted, unless you want a special color most of these dolls aren't that hard to find on the second hand market either.

    32. Because taking the original dolls off the market entirely and driving the price even higher is the best response to counterfeit prevalence. Right. Sincerely doubt the sculpts will budge for more than a few months post-sale, if at all. Just a tired sales tactic that comes across as a bit dishonest to those of us who have watched it repeat.

    33. Wait does that mean that classic mini and fashion mini will still be availble? It seems a bit strange....

Edit: OOPS minis were available for 18M, not 28M :X that explains that :sweat

    34. LOL, I received emails about the sales yesterday. Once I got there, everything from 28M is sold out. How could those 100 limited dolls of each kind were sold that fast. I'm a beginner and I'm getting fooled already. So this is what Dollshe Craft doing business. I see

    35. Yup, SOP, unfortunately. I roll my eyes each time I see these, final sales.

      • x 1
    36. I read that email 4 hours after it was sent and they were all sold out, that's a lot of dolls in a few hours. I did question how discontinuing a doll would hinder recasters instead of helping them, but if this is a common thing I'll resume panicking that Dollshe are packing up shop.

      • x 1
    37. yeah add me to the believe it when I see it group lol. Though the usual huge discount is sorely tempting ahem.

One day I intend to pick up a Michael Bowie... One day. But bodies for floating heads, and several planned female characters get priority first. (oopf my priority list is nuts actually, there's... Five, yes five bodies needed - let alone the long-planned very much on the backburner Dollshe, Iplehouse and Dollmore ladies)

    38. they're not sold out. they just haven't updated the site. whether they are final sales or not, $260 for a dollshe fashion size is pretty amazing.
I have all the dolls from I want for now, and don't want to wait forever, but the prices are crazy good.

      • x 3
    39. I just checked the websites, the sold out ones now becomes sale again. I have to admit that the price is good though. Maybe I should get at least 1. LOL

    40. Seems to be limited to 4 resin colors: pale, fresh, oriental and copper oriental

    41. Hrm...I bought my Saint in a Final Sale in 2014, David in a Final Sale...back in 2015, Grant in a Final Sale in 2016...seeing a pattern? That said, those prices are damn tempting. If you're wanting one, better jump on it now.

      • x 2
    42. Deliberating if I’m willing to get back into dollshe’s ordering for that price... the character I wanted really should be mango oriental, but I could us copper oriental, maybe? Fingers crossed it doesn’t take two years.

    43. at 50% off I impulse ordered the 18M Arsene this morning, damn he has a lovely face, this is my life now isn't it, lusting over sculpts then impulse buying them and living on noodles for the rest of time! Stop having sales Dollshe!

    44. Sounds about right for a DollShe lover. But congratulations. Hopefully they kick their butts into gear.

    45. They placed him on sale AFTER I paid full price for him ‼️

    46. That sucks. How often Dollshe has sales like this? It seems like quite often to me.

    47. I was afraid they would retire my Arsène. . .

    48. it's like Lucy and Charlie Brown and the football. :arainclou

    49. Drat Lucy--er-- Dollshe! I've never managed to get on any sale that Dollshe ever had. Only ever paid full price like poor Charlie brown. Looool XD

This is rather annoying and makes Dollshe seem so moody. (^^")

    50. Well moody is one way of putting things.
I'm lucky that all 3.5 of mine were on sale. (The 0.5 being a Venitu head which is obviously not DollShe).

    51. You ordered a Venitu head ⁉️ (Not from Dollshe?)

I received the an email regarding the sale but only after turning over my savings to them for a full-priced Arsene. But I’ll stop complaining (I’m not bitter at all!). :eusa_naug

I wish Iplehouse would bring back Ashanti or maybe Dollshe will offer a line of the various and diverse physical traits associated with distinct areas of our planet (i.e.: Cameroon , Congo, Southern Bantu Peoples, Sweden , Ireland , Scotland , England , Wales , Netherlands , Northwestern Europe, etc.). Currently I’m interested in an African female doll. . . maybe a line of both male and female dolls. . . fraternal twins or at least siblings. . . so the option for a particular gender is always available. . . a number of customers would certainly want to obtain both the dolls. . . maybe a line of traditional dress from each area. . . similar to what Barbie did. . .

    52. Good day! My name is Elena, I'm from Russia. I have a problem, and I want to ask for help from knowledgeable people. In March of this year, I bought at auction in Japan (noppin) doll Dollshecraft Bernard (faceplate) on the body of DSAM 32. I know, that seller this the Muppets sold the Muppets from pawn shops (this information from technical support noppin). Unfortunately, the doll had no certificates, no box, no nameplate in his head - only a doll with eyes, so to find out who was the owner of this doll and when it was made, I could not. I have no complaints about the lack of documents - I knew it when buying, but I still wonder what his story? I will be grateful for the clues, how can I find out? The official site can't give me information because I don't have the certificate number and any other information. Ideally, I would like to try to restore the certificate or at least find out the year of manufacture or sale. I have a photo of the doll's head with makeup as it came up to me, can someone remember and give a link if such an image appeared somewhere on the Internet? The doll has piercings in both ears, holes punched through. It's the only modification I've found. So, all I know at the moment is that she's from Japan, the original skinton PALE, head and body have changed the hue a bit, but they're the same color, like ivory. In another branch on this site I was told that maybe the doll was even in sales here on DOA, but my rating is not enough to find it there on their own. Thanks for any help or hint.

    53. @warmshadows you might try emailing them. I bought a doll from them some time back and after I had paid for it, they sent me a refund. It has been awhile, so my memory is not very clear, but I think they gave me the sale price because the doll went on sale before they made it.

    54. Hello.
Would you be so kind to tell me are there any differences between Grown Hound and Old 18M Classic Hound ?
I searched the Internet for the photos of Grown Hound but didn't managed to find many of them. I'm thinking about buying Grown Hound head instead of my Bermann's. Grown Bermann is a beautiful doll, but i always dreamed about old Bermann and bought Grown hoping that I'll be satisfied by him. Now I think that they are two different dolls and every has it's own beauty. Another thing is that this doll size is pretty big for me. Fashion would be more convinient, at the same time I don't know if fashion hound be in stock someday.

    55. Like BleakOptimism I caved and put one on layaway with BJDivas. :sweat I don’t actually want an Arsene but wanted to add the body to my collection and the price was too good to pass up. I have a lot going on in the next few months to distract me from the wait.

@vendetta9 I've never owned an older Hound so I'm not too intimately familiar with the sculpt, but here are some photos of the Grown Hound in my possession. The biggest difference is going to be size, as the Grown heads are all slightly larger to fit on the newest generation of bodies.

If I had to guess, I would say the newer Hound has a slightly more pronounced jaw and chin and maybe minor changes to lips and nose. It looks to me like his mouth might be slightly wider. You be the judge I suppose.

I finished the seam sanding on my 24m body. I love it SO much, but once I finish his blushing it will be on to some tinkering for stability. When he first arrived he stood fine but as his elastic relaxed he couldn’t even sit at times without leaning against something. That lovely thick torso is very heavy and his knees are somewhat prone to buckling as with the Mystic. I wonder if wire would help.

I wish this body was one with the nifty silicone balls in the joints, because there isn’t much room to add suede to his knees. Anyone else had success with posing improvements? When I restring him it will be with 5mm elastic shock cord so hopefully that will provide some sort of benefit.

      • x 1
    56. Old Hound and Berman's original body-- It is similar to the Pure body (which came after) but has a hip joint. Both are 70cm and are smaller in width of shoulders and hips.

Grown versions have slightly larger heads to fit in proportion to the new 18M Classic Mystic Maxi body.

Search google images for "old hound body". Here it is on dkeats82's flickr next to a venitu and Arsene body

    57. @vendetta9 - I have one of the first Hounds from Tensiya with one of the first Tensiya Bermanns. over 14 years ago.
new Hound is very close in style to the old one, but a different size. new Bermann is not old Bermann(s.)
the Bermann body was different from any ever made with two joints at the shoulders. small, sloping shoulders
unlike the Hound body (which tan Bermanns came on.) Anu used to send me shirts and coats she'd made for my B boy, for his 'gentle' body.
