Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen

Nov 28, 2018

    1. As ever, the real potential of these heads is only apparent when you see some with paint. She is turning out to be a very versatile sculpt.

Question: Has anyone tried jointed hands on the 28M body? I am hoping the DZ 70cm hands might be proportionate, but wondering if they will be too slim.

    2. I can try that one for you tomorrow! Though the hands are awful posers and I highly recommend wiring.

      • x 1
    3. @Quiet and Insane That would be fabulous. Thank you. Eh on the posing. I had read that they are amongst the most stable. Do you have Soom? If so, are they better or worse than them? I get on OK with my Soom jointed hands so, if they are anything like, I have the patience for it. If not, wire it is.

    4. @MadamMauMau - Computer's being a bit of a twat tonight and I can't upload the photos but the result was...interesting. Because the Dollshe wrist is more oval in shape compared to the DZ wrist ball. Proportions were a little too off in my opinion, but I think it could work? Perhaps with some cunning blushing it may look a little better. I don't have Soom hands, but I do have Ringdoll and Granado's older (smaller) version. Both are too small and slender for the 28M body (assuming you're talking about the one Severin is on?), but are far superior posers and are much stronger. The Ringdoll hands in particular are my favourites as they will hold just about any pose and can carry more weight. Prior to wiring, the DZ hands posed as if they'd been run over by a truck...

    5. @Quiet and Insane Eh on all levels. What was off about the proportions, do you think? Could it be improved by sanding the wrist ball to help it fit the socket? I jumped for the hands anyway, as they were a good price. I will give it my best shot at making them work.

And, yes for the 28M, but not for Séverin, but for Horse MkIII.

    7. @MadamMauMau - Looking at the photos again, I think it's less the wrist ball and more the actual palm of the hand. The wrist can easily be sanded down (along with the fingernails as they are very long), but the palm...not sure. The photos are in the spoiler to save space. They look far to big and out of proportion on the body they were made for, let alone a beefier guy like this one.

Ooh, so who shall Horse be now? [/QUOTE]

@SteamWitch - He looks like he's enjoying his walk despite the cold. :)

    8. @Quiet and Insane, those are HUGE!!!! I am not sure I have the same ones, then. The ones I got this morning have short nails and look nowhere near as big as that next to the head I have (although, granted, it is not a Dollshe head and is probably a little bigger). I will dig out the 28M body from the packing cases this weekend and see what is what. Gives me an excuse for a bit of end-of-week dolly doo-daddling. But., man, that is not right at all! Looks monstrous! Thanks for trying it out, though.

ETA: Have an appalling phone photo. The head is fractionally bigger than my Kuncci's head, about SID size or thereabouts, I would say. Those hands are nowhere near the size of yours. They look like they might work, if the wrist balls are the right size.

I wonder what I have, then, if yours are DZ 70cm hands?

    9. Just curious...has anyone received any replies lately from the Dollshe website? I was in a conversation and the last reply was Dec. 17th - no reply since. Was wondering if they're on holiday. (?)

    11. He looks wonderful! Funny how his photo shows up in the Quote but not when post is entered. Flickr is wack right now.

    12. SteamWitch, Thanks for saying, I thought it was just my problem with flickr

    13. It showed up fine for me, but maybe it's because steamwitch quoted it. He is so gorgeous and cute @Katushka_Nitok! I love him :D The outfit is wonderful <3

    14. I hope Flickr gets their act together soon!

I'm in the process of reshelling my two oldest dolls, and the one currently metamorphosizing into a Bernard had a faceup finished today. I modded his eye shape and the tip of his nose a little, and then discovered it's harder than anticipated to disguise where clay meets resin. And mix the perfect paint shade for blond brows. Don't look too close. :sweat

Bernard tends to look wide-eyed and innocent, and my boy is supposed to be flirty and mischievous, so I was doubting my sculpt choice when the head originally arrived, but I'm pleased with his look now and no longer have any misgivings about dropping his old self off at the post office. I ordered him a Guudoll body custom matched to Copper Oriental. It should be shipped tomorrow; hope it works out.

@Quiet and Insane, @MadamMauMau, what is the length measurement of these gigantic hands, whatever they may be? I am in the market for some long-nailed monster mitts ... though maybe not that monstrous...

      • x 4
    15. @Havra I believe Quiet and Insane and I have different hands. Mine don't have long nails and are 6.8cm from base of hand without wrist ball to tip of longest finger. Someone makes vampire hands with long nails. Can't remember who, but try Googling it.

    16. @MadamMauMau - Mine were from the last release in 2014/5, so it's possible yours are from an older release. They are stupidly huge and I was very unhappy with how disproportionate they are with the body they were supposedly made for - something half the size of the 28M.

@Havra - I bought these monstrosities from DZ in 2014/5. I can get measurements once I'm home from my holiday.

    17. @SteamWitch I am profoundly jealous of that gorgeous natural beach backdrop. <3

@MJKKJM that ig is perfect on her!

Persephone tried on a red wig, and I kind of dig it. I still prefer the brunette, but I think she's gonna get to swap between the two. :3

    18. I need to take more photos out there but sand gets into everything if you're not careful. :frownyblush:
Thorne was totally dressed for the cold weather so it worked great.

    19. Sharing Margarite (EN DIana) in a Period Threads gown that was actually made to fit Iple EID/SID body. Diana's shoulders are so broad that she wears it well, even though her chest is very flat.

    20. as someone who lives across the street from the ocean, I think it's safe to say sand gets into everything even if you're careful ;)
those pictures are great, and Thorne looked amazing

    21. Thank you and you are right I shouldn't let it stop me. :)

    23. @MJKKJM - Ooh wow she looks gorgeous! :) I love her wig.

@rianne - Ooh yes, the red does look good on her too.

    24. Hallelujah! After one year and four months, Adonis is finally on his way home to me. He was in packing status for three plus months. :) I received the tracking number late last night.

      Woot!

    25. Congrats! May he breeze through Customs without so much as a slow down.

    26. @JinCIncy it does fit well!

      @Julie M Congratulations!

@Quiet and Insane Thank you :3

Here's one more of redhead Persephone, and then I think she's back to being a brunette. XD

    29. Is the wait for Dollshe still outrageous? I’m tempted by BJDiva’s sale on the Diana 16F SD set. Diana is one of my favorite sculpts I’ve seen, but waiting 2 years for a doll is painful. Advice?

    30. Since Diana has been shipped out I doubt the wait will reach 2 years, but it may be close to a year because he keeps running 'specials' to keep money , um orders rolling in. Plus if it is through BJDivas it might have more weight behind it than ordering direct.

Sorry for the snarkiness, I've lost my taste for ordering new from Dollshe.

      • x 3
    31. I wont ever order direct, at least with BJDiva's I know communication will be good and that Im in good hands. Im still waiting on my Natalie and Tom, but Im fine with it because the people who run it have always responded very quickly to me. Im too scared to ever order direct, since he has never responded to any of my emails.

The new special sounds good to me, and I dont care how long he says the wait period is. Better over estimate it and be happy that the order came early, instead of relying on the time promised and waiting a year + over. I would assume 1-2 year wait for their dolls

realistically, a year wait seems to be the norm.

I loved that warning bit about faceups getting a 2 week delay to order :abambi:

Im probably going to get the Amanda special, but Im trying to make up my mind. Ive seen some mango oriental resin and it looks very nice like toffee. Waiting for one to pop up secondhand with the pieces I want is taking too long, plus I prefer the newer bigger head but I do wish he kept the lip texturing.

    32. I could also do a year layaway, so I’m not so annoyed about my money being tied up. And if a miracle happens and the doll is ready early, I can just pay off the remainder.

    33. With the exception of dolls that I have purchased second-hand, I have always ordered directly from DollShe. My shortest wait was five months; my longest was sixteen. Adonis is in the house. Now, to unwrap him. My stack of dolls that need faceups is growing....

    34. I've never had as many dolls needing face-ups as I do right now. I have 4 in-house and whenever I get my Dollshe boy that's in production, he'll be number 5. That's a bit frightening to me.

    35. I figured you guys might get a kick out of this. My arsene continues to act as a dollstand for smaller dolls. XD I just realized that, even after a doll purge, my core dollshe duo has remained intact. I need to do a shoot with just Persephone and Nox once I get backdrps ironed. <3

Re: the general 'where to order' connundrum. BJDivas is definitely easier to talk to, but I've ordered from dollshe directly aobut 4 times with no issues. Like, wait times are all over the place, but we all know that.

    36. Just placed an order for the Arsene special package event yesterday, should i expect him to arrive next year? hahah

    37. @icymiharu I'd say that's a good bet. Then you can be surprised if he arrives earlier.:kitty2

    38. Hope springs eternal....

    39. HAHAH exciting stuff. Sadly, placed the order before reading about all the reviews about long wait times. Been away from DOA for too long. Will just hang around here and admire everyone else's dolls for now. :)

    40. Anyone else who ordered in June/July have any updates on their dolls? I'm trying to use the wait list on the wiki to estimate how much time I have left and it looks like a few orders from June were shipped in December :abambi: There isn't a ton of info on the list though, I think most people either don't use it or enter their order date and then forget to update when their doll ships haha...

    41. While my original order was in May (for a 44cm Saint), Dollshe allowed me to upsize my order to the new classic mini (55cm) in June. I'd sent an email towards the end of December asking for an update on the projected timeline for shipping and Dollshe responded saying it would be another 2 months, so end of February at the earliest based on that response. Given that the classic mini is a brand new size.... I'm not exactly holding my breath on that projected date. Hoping like mad but not banking on it.

I'm not sure how helpful the above info is to you (depending on what you've ordered). But that was the response that I got from Dollshe. They also responded to my email within... I want to say 48-72 hours. keeping in mind that it was right around Xmas that I sent the email so likely a bit hectic of a time.

    42. They say April-May for the classic mini now, I don't think he's working on it yet.

    43. *sigh* of course not. I mean, it wouldn't be like Dollshe to offer something up for sale and not actually work on getting those orders out the door or anything, right?

      • x 1
    44. I am so glad I'm off this crazy train but I do feel for those of you still riding it.
I love my at home DS boys tremendously, but I shop the MP.

      • x 1
    45. If that were possible to get me what I want, I'd be there in a heartbeat waving around my fistful of money.

      • x 3
    46. I've been waiting since April for an Arsene. Dolls ordered before and not too long after this order was placed have arrived. Two dolls ordered near the end of last year will probably come before Arsene. Lol, I hope I don't fall for anymore Dollshe dolls, and if I do, absolutely will be secondhand. Prior wait times have ranged from around 6 months to almost a year.

    47. So many wonderful dolls here! :love
Couple weeks ago I took pics of my silent boy

    48. Praise the lord. Dollshe convinced me that they were shipping soon, so I said I would in fact wait longer. My arsene came today, and he is every bit the quiet beauty from the company pictures. I named him Salinger after the writer.

I ordered parts in July and they’ve still not shipped

    50. I up-sized my order in June and it's still "processing" *sigh*. Dollshe said end of this month when I asked back in December but I'm not holding my breath.

    51. @Rook_Sever - He's so serene and beautiful! :)

@golo - Congratulations! :) Arsene does have such a lovely sweet face.

    52. Thank you, Quiet and Insane. So happy to join the dollshe club. To everyone in the waiting room, please hang in there. It must be so frustrating.

    53. @Quiet and Insane awww thank you! He is a sudden purchase, but I love the sculpt :love

    54. Seeing such a beautiful dolls makes me very impatient - I can't wait for my boy to arrive.
(I have ordered classic maxi Grant Phillippe with L4 body, additional heads, hands and feet. I would gladly throw more money at Dollshe, as I really like David Kuncci SA head, but I haven't seen possibility to order just the head on their page now. Well, I hope there Will be a chance soon...)

    55. Ooh congratulations! I have both a Grant and a David - they're such beautiful dolls. Hopefully you can just get a head for him, if not, you can always try the marketplace if you're wanting him in one of the more popular resin colours.
