Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen

Nov 28, 2018

    1. Can anyone tell me what pants fit the 24M body?

    2. @Quiet and Insane oh James~ What a sexy lumberjack you've got :XD:

@celga tell me about it. If they ship my order in late Jan, I'm going to be very shocked but will also thank my lucky stars hahaha! I'm crossing my fingers though.. And am also always this close to ordering more. I still can't get over those prices!

    3. For all the trouble Dollshe causes with his business practices, he does sculpt beautiful dolls. I sincerely hope that those who've been waiting so long get a wonderful surprise of a shipping notice from him as promised.

I'm eye-balling a boy in the MP right now and trying hard to resist but I am very weak when it comes to resin in the shape of a doll. I'd be breaking Dolly Rule #1 in getting him (no doll comes home that isn't an already existing character) but he's so gorgeous and calling to me softly. I've managed to say no for about two weeks now but my resolve is weakening.

    4. Hello everyone! I'm an annoying client who changed her order twice, I'm waiting for Arsene through BJDivas, they've been amazing, I didn't know much about dollshe when I ordered, I just knew I loved the Arsene head too much and that he was really cheap, I've been reading most of this thread and I'm concerned now! hahaha so I have two questions for you guys:
      - Has anyone who bought the doll with an insane discount gotten their doll already? (I know this was pretty recent but I've seen some people getting their dolls really fast)
      - I've read here that Dollshe doesn't like 3D printed BJD's, what is that about a 3D printer??

    5. @lorenav6661 i’m kinda curious about how it pans out too, if I ever buy another sculpt it would be nice to get another dollshe. Let’s hope some stories roll in.

    6. I ordered my Bermann during the June 50% off sale, I got him in October (actually one and a half month after I paid off my layaway O__o) When you will get you doll is anybody's guest though ^^" And he's not from the newer, crazier sales.
That's pretty old, it was before he got a nice talk about it with other doll artists I think? Now I think most of the newer Dollshe stuff is 3D printed.

    7. He is madly in love with his new 3d printer now (see Instagram).

    8. I am going crazy over how handsome 28M boys you all have! I have longed after the gorgeous sculpture-like body ever since I let go of my Fashion Grant earlier this year. I know selling him wasn't a mistake and I wouldn't ever want him back as he was just too small to feel comfortable in my arms, but I do miss the body dearly. Grant was my grail, my first doll, and even a special package with all the beautiful veiny hands. I did always want him in the bigger size, but my mother only let me purchase the smaller one. Who knows, maybe he would still be with me now if I had gotten the big doll straight away.

I have been eyeing the special packages, very seriously, but I am just far too distrusting at this point. Two of the dolls from 50% sales were a disappointment quality-wise (Diana, whose head I couldn't even get off due to wrong size parts, and Khan who had too weak strings to even hold his legs attached to him when I lifted him, and whose own weight made him collapse from most poses, I didn't even dare let him stand straight without support), but this time I am more concerned that they'll face financial trouble, never make the doll and I will end up losing my money. I know the 28M is a perfect poser (He would have made a perfect skater or dancer, thanks to the nubs he could hold almost any pose on one foot without support, and that is what I could maybe make of him), but for now I will just have to hold my horses. I won't probably get Grant again, but I hope to see a 28M guy in my collection again one day, this time the same size as all my other dolls. I'm also a bit sad they no longer offer wrinkles on lips. I don't know if they have discontinued it permanently, but it makes sense considering the huge workload they already have.

    9. I was browsing Instagram of Mr. Dollshe and WOW " I really like car. I want to buy Ferrari SF90 because the business I'm working on is going well. I want to car racing as a hobby." dated September, 8th (2019). The Soap affair was after this. So maybe it is Ferrari thing beyond all.
I was also tempted because "discount prices" but after all forum infos about waiting time I'm still a little worried. Diana body is great but all this issues ..., so thanks vauhtikatti for update. But these dolls are so beautiful :wiggle

      • x 1
    10. Ohh! And how was the quality of your doll? That's making me a little nervous, but I'm aware I did pay a really low price compared to his real price, I'm glad they talked with him about it and he changed his mind, sculpting in 3D is really hard too.

That's really funny hahaha yeah, i just saw the Octoya thing hehehe they're cute though, but he should definitely finish working on the dolls before changing line of work. I own a 3D printer, it's just crazy that he allegedly spent months getting it fixed, it is messy but I don't take longer than two days to fix any problem, I do get errors pretty much every time I try to print something new or change filaments but you learn how to fix every problem in the process.

    11. Problems with the new 3D printer is what I was told was keeping my order from being done. That's the excuse I got from Dollshe for about 6 months. Then when I do get an email from them, it's to tell me that they cast the wrong size doll (I changed the size 1 month after I placed my initial order, they finally cast the doll 16 months after that change). When I said I still wanted the larger doll (the 55cm), they said that the prototypes hadn't been made yet but were "working on it". I cancelled my order and got a refund 2 months later as I was tired of the wait and being lied to about just when I'd get what I'd paid in full for (they kept telling me it would be done in a few more months).

    12. It's so disappointing to read how Dollshe treats their clients! They should be more responsible and transparent, it is a really terrible business model to sell products that aren't even finished yet and so awful that they finish newer orders first and leave others waiting for two years, even though I want my doll asap i'd be really embarassed if i get mine first (Kinda spoils the excitement). I hope they can solve these problems because their dolls are so beautiful and their company is full of potential. :...(

    13. Dollshe makes beautiful dolls and I love Wu-Tyr (Orijean) but I highly doubt I'd buy direct from Dollshe again unless he gets his production act together and gets dolls out in a timely fashion. I'll go the 2nd hand route until that time.

    14. Will EID shoes fit the 24M Classic body?

    15. @golo - Thank you! This photo was from before I painted all of his tattoos, he looks a little blank to me.

@Thymeseer - Oh gee :whee: Don't let him hear you say that, his ego is big enough already!

      @celga - Thank you! :)

@kagami - Heh, what he hasn't said is that he "borrowed" the axe from my Viking. ;) When he's not swanning around stealing other people's belongings...he's a cowboy. Unless it's a full moon of course. ;)

    16. That is an awesome wolf thing he's got going on there @Quiet and Insane . Did you make that?

    17. Does anyone know what size eyes are best for a Rey Lewis 28M Fashion Maxi (44cm) size doll? The listing on Dollshe says both 6mm and 8mm, is there one that fits better than the other? Or does it just depend on what brand of eyes you get? Also small pupils or regular sized? Decisions, decisions...

    18. I use 7mm eyes 3mm iris. The 7mm fits the eyewell exactly in mine.

If you see the picture I posted here /posts/12741378/ you can see how the 3mm iris looks.

    19. @faerie_bard It might be a case of personal preference (which doesn't help answer your question). Smaller iris/pupils will give a more mature look to your guy. It'll also depend on how much landscape is actually available in the eye opening (not the size of the eyewell, which may be 2 different things). If you have half-closed eyes, going with the smaller eye and iris/pupil may look better than the larger eye/iris/pupil although some minor gaping at the corners could be a thing.

One of my guys (not a Dollshe) could wear 16mm (they fit in his eyewell) but the iris takes up virtually all the landscape of his eye hole leaving almost no white visible. He should wear 14mm according to the company site yet I have 12mm in his head because I like the aesthetic of them better for his character. There is a tiny amount of gaping in the corner of his eyes but unless you're looking for it, you won't notice it and it doesn't show up in photos. That's perfectly acceptable to me but YMMV.

    20. Thank you for the info, I'll look for some 7mm ones, then. It seems like ones that are that small are harder to find.

I guess the best way to tell is to experiment with a couple sizes, then. Thanks, Iron_Dog!

    21. @faerie_bard Dreaming Tree Studio does small eyes (as small as 3mm!) and will do custom orders if you have a specific look/colour in mind or want to get a certain sized iris. Amanada is also lovely to work with and tries very hard to get you what you want/need.

I can say from personal experience that casting 8mm and 6mm eyes is a pain in the butt. Ensuring that no air bubbles happen is frustrating and not always something that happens.

    22. So I’ve been wanting Diana for a long time, but I don’t fully trust Dollshe anymore.
It’s gone from « yeah it takes long, but it WILL get there (and look amazing) » to « maybe these incredible sales are a scam before he disappears with everyone’s money for good » :(
anyone else struggling with those thoughts??

    25. after my very long wait with no apology, and with so many wonderful artists out there, I don't want back on that merry-go-round again. :frownyblush:

      • x 1
    26. Yes. That's why until he gets his act together, it's 2nd hand purchases for me because I simply don't trust purchasing from him directly anymore. That's (generally) a lot of money to fire off into the void with nothing in return for literally more than a year (or 2!). The amount of cash flung out there is even more for me (I'm Canadian) as prices are in $US and the $CAN sucks, adding hundreds of dollars more to the price for me (and others who's dollar is below par with the $US).

With that being said, I'm still resisting the temptation of a lovely Dollshe boy in the MP but I can feel myself caving. He probably would've stayed something I admired, sighed over and resisted but I got Unexpected Doll last week (the custom coloured doll I ordered from Impl was the wrong shade of green; pistachio ice cream instead of forest green; so they're remaking him and said I could keep the wrong coloured one). Writer Brain has decided they'd be wonderful together. They have names and backgrounds. I'm doomed.

    27. petiteballerine, sahoma, exactly my thoughts. I saw Diana at almost discount sale today - 290 USD. It is tempting (still) but all these infos about more than 2y waiting time are so frustrating. And I dont know if somebody who ordered the doll in "discounts" during 2019 already has it. I admit, I am looking at DollShe page every month and hold my hands behind my back.

    28. His werewolf pelt was custom made for me by @MaryamDN a few years ago before she moved to making the life-scale pelts almost exclusively. She was also the one who convinced me I needed to buy hm in the first place.

    29. When I saw photo you posted it was click in my head screaming "MaryamDN". He is beautiful werewolf.

    30. Thank you! :)

    31. I saw that too, she's so cheap! I kinda want to add her to my layaway but I really shouldn't :drool

I miss the fleeting period where USD and CAD were practically even :...(

    33. @sahoma Yeah *sigh*. That was a very long time ago, unfortunately.

    34. I have to buy my dolls in Mexican Pesos, 1 USD is around 19 pesos, it used to be 10 pesos

I made a test shirt today! I made the pattern myself, using measurements from my doll (He's the Mystic body btw). The pattern needs a tiny bit of adjusting, but after that it'll be my ground pattern for all my custom clothes ^_^ I wanted to get pics of him standing but ugh he didn't want to stand! I have barely touched him since august but his posing has gotten worse. His knees and elbows do not want to lock into position at all and keep bending TT^TT

      • x 1
    36. @Revvy nice work! Dollshes always look good in shirts :XD:

    37. So I couldn't hold out forever against the doll that was calling to me in the MP. I've just purchased a Hound. He'll need a wig but that's what the local doll shop is for . He'll also need eyes but since I've been making eyes, that's not going to be much of a problem. I have clothes, too, since I already own a Dollshe with the same body type. I'm excited for this guy to come home and not have to wait for the second coming of Christ before that happens.

      • x 7
    38. @Revvy that shirt is looking really good!!

@Iron_Dog Congrats on your new Hound!! :D please post many photos :XD:

    39. @kagami Thanks. Hopefully shipping won't be too long and that he escapes from Customs with no fees.

    40. Iron_Dog oh escaping custom control with NO fee for doll is my dream. I need male body but when calculating custom fees plus body price (and shipping), price is horrible (* I am EU based).

    41. Yeah, the Customs fees can be pretty brutal depending on your declared amount. The most I've had to pay in Customs fees was $113CAN for Kathiel (Unidoll Ark). The one that REALLY ticked me off was when I had to pay Customs fees on dolls I already owned and had send out for repair, mods and face-ups. That was $75CAN and despite providing proof that I already owned the dolls (one of them I'd had for 5 years!) and had simply sent them out for work to be done to them, Customs refused to budge and refund me the fees.

    42. Iron_Dog I had pay 43 euros just for Zakary head (with SartoriaJ boots in package). So in case of DollShe male body and shipping fee amount can be 200 euros just for custom fees. I calculated it.
And what you mentioned (paying for owned doll send out for repair or face-up) is nightmare. I live in country where BJD is (I think, but maybe I am wrong because I am begginer) is rare hobby and one of my doll (vindoll) was send to material safety check (they tested vinyl for toxicity almost week). I was really afraid what happens when somebody declared it toxic .... Yes, doll stories with custom offices would deserve stand-alone topic.

    43. Dolls here in Canada are NOT exempt from Customs fee. But in the US, because dolls are "toys" they are exempt from Customs fees. The Customs fees will vary slightly by province as the fee is calculated as being a percentage of the value of the package that is equal to whatever the harmonized sales taxes is and that tax varies from province to province. Ontario (where I live) is 13%.

    44. Iron_Dog declaring BJD as toys within EU has its pros and cons: BJD as "toy" should have a material safety declaration and language instruction ( it should be in the language of the recipient country if you declared "toy" - HA). But this part of custom fee was zero for (happy) me.
BUT there is VAT in my country 20 percent and this is very painful - because it is total amount paid for goods and shipping (and you have to attach invoice and statement of bank payment and shipping fee must appear on the invoice) . Especially in case of full-price DollShe body or more expensive BJS the VAT is pure horror.

    45. I am very glad that we don't have VAT here. I've heard the horror stories.

    46. @susana789 @Quiet and Insane
I'm not dead !!! sorry sorry! i'm still here, still have dolls! just sort of fell off the face of the earth for a while. you guys are too sweet!!! i don't deserve you guys :'( <3
^_^ still taking private orders on little pieces very occasionally but life size pieces are the focus these days as Liz said! i miss the doll crafting terribly!

    47. MaryamDN I love yours dolls and all amazing crafting you doing. Enjoy life and crafting :loveand time with dolls and friends.

    48. Reading these post make me a bit nervous to order..I am hoping to do a 12 month layaway for the special package for Erica (26F Classic Maxi) but I don't want to become scammed. I know the $360 is amazing and tempting but what should I expect with the coming year? I've talked to some Dollshe owners and either you get your doll rather quickly or 2 years and counting.

Also, since it is a special package, do I get any extras with the doll or not?

    49. vvnem I am very tempted by offer for Diana body or Erica/ special package too. I have little bit damaged 26F body (gifted to me because of damage and because personal reasons of previous owner so I did not experienced DollShe waiting time personally, lucky me). I am in love with body for aesthetics reasons and would like to have one new. But as you write, after reading posts about 2y waiting time I am nervous about all of this.

    50. aw hun! thank you </3 i wish i could dear. life has a way of tossing you up in the air. there will come a time hopefully when i can enjoy it again! but in the words of Aragorn, it is not this day! XP

    51. @MaryamDN - You're just being held hostage by lions, wolves, and bears. ;)

    52. I actually emailed DollShe because of my concerns and this is what he said. It was concerning wait times.

Only Diana's dolls took two years to deliver. In case of ERICA SNOW, we will guide you.
OE head + Pose body + Gesture hand type1 + Gesture hand type2 + High heeled feet + High heeled calf
Special packages include additional parts hands and feet, paper lather, and more.
Please allow up to 4 months for delivery of ERICA SNOW.

      Have a wonderful day.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe Craft

    53. vvnem great new (and even better if this will be true). So I wish you very short waiting time for Erica.

    54. I am actually not going ahead with the purchase due to the worry of the long wait time, the lies, and the quality control I have read about. I hope Dollshe fixes his issues and people get their dolls.

    55. Maybe he needs to hear that....

    56. I am weak and the sale was really good. Ive always wanted a mango oriental skin doll since seeing one on the MP and I dont ever think Ill come across a Diana in that skin color so I placed my order. I ordered Diana through BJD Diva's and in my mind, I know the wait will be at least 2 years, so if she's shipped sooner, I wont be disappointed for getting my hopes up.

4 months production isnt something I believe, but at the same time, I have some Instagram friends who have gotten their dolls relatively quickly by Dollshe standards (within 8 months). 4 months does not sound realistic at all to me coming from Dollshe. Natalie and Tom Ive been waiting almost 2 years. Natalie was drastically changed from the grey prototype sculpt that made me want to order her, but still is okay, and I have a feeling she will ship this ~year~ and Im sure for Tom, its either going to be a 3/4 year wait or cancelled since he hasnt started sculpting him since his debut years ago (which tbh, I would be livid if he was cancelled because it would mean that I was waiting for nothing!)

It would be really cool if the dolls produced were the ones paid for in order instead of spin the wheel type decision.......!!

    57. It's taking all my willpower not to pester BJDivas about my Classic Diana head. Gaaah. Dare I hope?!

    58. I'm up to 8 months yesterday. I could just forget about it but I'm also waiting for 3 dolls and 4 heads and another doll to go preorder. And all the eyes, wigs and clothes I ordered. So the combined waiting gets pretty excruciating at times. I just want to get everything NOW so I can play with them. Sigh.

      • x 3
    59. just a note about my wait time for Erica Snow - 19 months. it was placed when he hadn't made the new heads mold yet, (I didn't know that) but ...seriously!
And, not a word of apology or coupon or piece of candy. :truffle
It's a crap shoot. I would love a honeyskin Diana (was thinking mango oriental ;) too.) Not going there. If you like the honeys, second-hand dolls are hard to find.

good luck to Dollshe customers. I'm sure I'll weaken again someday. :apig:
