Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen

Since we're on the topic of skintones and I'm trying to make a decision regarding one of my incoming Dollshes, which ones do you all personally prefer for your dolls? Darker or lighter skin tones?

Depends on the character although I'm a complete sucker for coloured resin with grey being a HUGE weakness for me (I currently own 10 grey dolls out of 62 dolls). I don't have any pink-toned (NP) dolls though as I hate the colour pink. My Dollshe boy is Oriental skin, btw.

 

@Iron_Dog I've been eyeing grey skin tones myself and would love to own a grey skinned doll one day! how do you like the oriental skin tone? I'm actually trying to decide between Copper oriental and oriental for one of my boys...

 

@kagami I have the older version(s) of oriental so YMMV. I bought Wu-Tyr's head first several years before during one of the "final discontinued sale". The body is about 2 years old and there is a slight difference in the tone/shade between the two. I'd hesitate to say mellowing is the cause as before I got the body, Wu-Tyr's head was kept in the Dollshe box in a drawer and it never saw the light of day. The tone of oriental is quite pale. Not WS but definitely on the very lightest scale of NY of most other resins. I haven't seen copper oriental in person but if you were going for a less pale option it would probably be a good choice?

 

@Iron_Dog Ooo thank you for that description of oriental! I've seen a copper oriental Venitu in person and that skin tone is gorgeous! I'm trying to determine how close my somewhat mellowed white skin Bermann is to the oriental skin tone. I've only seen owner pictures of 2 CO Grown Bermanns out there and he's quite lovely too... It's the skin tone of my Grown Bermann that I'm thinking of changing to CO just to make him more distinct from my current boy Decisions decisions~

 

Wu-Tyr is paired with Yalaren (SD Ize NY). The lighting isn't too terrible but I think my camera autocorrected the tones of their resin *sigh*. I can try taking some other comparison shots with him and other NY dolls I have but it likely wouldn't happen until post Xmas because I'm all over the place with last minute stuff right now.

@kagami - I have two darker and two lighter so uh...both? Both is good.

 

@Iron_Dog Thank you for the photo! The comparison with your other doll make the oriental skin tone look very different to what I had in mind. That's really interesting!

Maybe i should just admit that I want Bermanns in every skin tone LOL

 

In terms of dollshe...Both the one I have and the one on order are in pale tan. If I get any more, I'd go with tan or pale tan again
I just really love their darker tones, they look so nice

I have a pale tan bernard with all his heads and a second one on order with just the standard @kagami
I wouldn't mind a diana and arsene someday, but...Definitely not any time soon

@ kagami - The Dollshe resin colors are all quite lovely. At one time or another, I've owned most of the Pure shades. My current crop includes Pale Tan, Oriental, and Fresh + the old "original" WS that my classic Bermann guy has. I would like to once again add a doll in Tan, Ebony, or Copper Oriental to my crew.

 

@earth.spirits your crew sounds lovely! how different is the skin tone of your Bermann and your oriental doll?

Skin tones of my WS Louis Doberman Bermann and my Saint in oriental are quite different. Of course, Archimedes (the Bermann) started out as a definite white tone. Over the years, he's mellowed to an attractive creamy / ivory tone that looks very natural (but is still different / much paler than the guy who's oriental tone).

 

@earth.spirits Would you have a photo of them for comparison? I'm sure my Bermann would be that same mellow creamy colour. He is one of the Hwarangs!

 

@kagami - It's storming here at the moment, so lighting is dim, but I'll see what I can do. Will try and get a pic for you sometime this week and post here. : )

In other news, I just got an email from Dollshe saying that they will be shipping out a bunch of orders in late January... I'm excited I hope my boys are in that shipment.

I hope this helps! It's actually an inside joke with my friend that I don't need to specify which skin colour I'm going for on any doll because I always go for the pastiest white I can but things are changing! I now have an Erica in Copper and an Iplehouse Leonard in Special Real (which is kinda close to copper oriental but with a warmer tone).

 

@lendelia I love those Dollshe hands..!! And those colours!! thank you so much for the photo. Its very helpful XD I actually also have an Amanda that I've put on layaway in Pale, so I hear you in that white skin

 

I have a lot of colors, from winter 2005 to winter 2019. Pure: white, normal, tan, fresh, grey, oriental.

Honey is my favorite: Snow, Espresso Ebony, Peach, Strawberry, Sapphire, Caramel Brown.

I'm really loving all of the shades I have owned (fresh to copper oriental) but my fave is Copper Oriental. Although at the same time I don't want to go any darker from that, or try honey resin, as I'm stuck doing a certain type of faceup that wouldn't function with those resins. I don't currently own any Copper Oriental dolls, but I did own and paint one, and it's just by a chance I now have four Dollshes (or to be precise two are Venitus) and none of them are in that tone. I love how Dollshe darker tones look so natural comparing to Iplehouse, who also have a wide range between white and what I consider tan and whose dolls I also own a couple.

 

I would still love to own an espresso ebony Saint (but not with the current wait times). The honey mango looks really nice, too.

I've also decided not to change my Bermann to the CO colour. He's going to remain oriental and I'm sure I'm gonna love him all the same

@kagami Yes, I have seen that doll. However, he's ebony not the honey espresso ebony I crave. The espresso ebony is so dark a brown that he looks like black resin except in strong sunlight. I believe @SteamWitch has a honey espresso ebony boy and he's gorgeous.

My oldest Dollshe who still resides with me is Archimedes, my Bermann. Pictured here with Ari, one of my Saints. As promised, this photo illustrates the differences in their skin tones. Archimedes is the old Tensiya White Skin and Ari is Fresh (from about 2012). As you can see, Archimedes has mellowed over the years to a more ivory tone, which I think is actually now somewhat deeper in color than Ari (who's also mellowed).

Here's my Hound who's been here since end of 2004 or Jan 2005 - I can't remember exactly when he arrived.
Zephyr, Painted Dog (from Tensiya) who has tatts everywhere. Even his jewelry and hair are painted on. He still looks pretty good color-wise although his white is now off-white. At least he didn't go true yellow. In order to brighten him up, I'd have to take off or dull his tatts. NEVER!
I won't repaint him because he was my 3rd faceup and I like to remind myself that perfection isn't everything.

Ugh I'm so jealous of everyone's beautiful boys! I will sit here enviously enjoying your wonderful pictures.

I heard a rumor on Insta that someone was told there was going to be a big shipment at the end of January. I'll believe it when I see it, but I bet they were just told that to placate them. I will just hope it's true without putting much stock into it.

 

I'm sure if I had an order in, and was seeing all of his hoopla over the Octo thing and the 3D printer that was supposed to be used to get dolls out, I'd be hollering loud and long. I definitely hope shipping in January is true.

 

I'll believe the Jan shipping thing when people actually get their dolls.

 

I certainly hope they'll be LOTS of shipping in January - it would be wonderful for folks to finally receive their dolls, and a lovely way to start off the new year.

@Thymeseer I got the email from them saying they're sending a big batch of orders out in Jan (after I asked if I could do a skintone change) and I know they told someone else that their Saint that was ordered in Aug would be shipping in the end Jan batch. I'm cautiously optimistic about my order but I'm also not going to get my hopes up....

 

Everyone's dolls look stunning! Hopefully the shipping thing is true. So many people waiting for so long...

Hmm oldest Dollshe...that's Desmond. I've had him for a little over five years now. He's copper oriental too.

I currently have two floating heads (that I bought secondhand) and 1 full doll (that I still haven't been able to work on since I received him >.<). From left to right: Saint (Normal oriental, from 2010, unknown amount of mellowing), Adonis (Copper oriental, unknown age, it's not on his COA, face-up by last owner), Saint (Fresh, made in 2019)
Idk if anyone still wanted a resin comparison but I can make photo's in different lighting if needed.

I have Adonis and Arsene coming. Since I already have an Arsene head, I was planning on selling the head when it came but with the new colors, I may make him a brother or cousin. It seems I never can make any plans when it comes to Dollshe dolls...

 

Adonis is a great sculpt. Luckily I am able to admire other owners who have them as I have no character in the works at the moment.

@kagami - Thank you! I adore this resin colour. I have a Grant in CO too. Spoiled boy got two new faceplates (second hand) this year. So he's got four now. I'm going to try modding one to make him smile a little.

@Quiet and Insane Your James is the number one guy contributing to my Grant thirst. He's just that gorgeous. Grant's on my eventual grail list, but the stars just haven't aligned yet (or the money magically appearing).

 

Oh wow, looking at all of these gorgeous guys (@Quiet and Insane, your Grant is absolutely drool-worthy!) and hearing the rumor about a possible large scale January shipment is giving me hope. I'll believe it when I see it, but wouldn't it be amazing if Dollshe actually got their act together and started to ship within a reasonable time frame? I barely forced myself to dodge the bullet and not order one of their absurdly low cost sale dolls, but if production speeds up I will be regretful, envious...and SO happy for all of you who are waiting!
