Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen

Nov 28, 2018

    1. Left is a Saint head I bought secondhand, right is a new Saint I ordered and received this year. Kinda fun to see how much the sculpt has changed over the years (the secondhand head is from 2010 according to his COA)

    2. DOA seems to be having problems with images breaking, here's the link to the image: https://i.imgur.com/gWogpuH.jpg

    3. Interesting! I just assumed there was a card for each head rather than 1 for the heads/faceplates and 1 for the body. Thanks!

    4. Whoa! They almost look like 2 different sculpts

    5. @tiarah I could be wrong about the CoA thing. I bought my pieces separately, 2 years apart, several years ago so they could've changed how they distribute the CoA's between then and now.

@Revvy Is it me or does the newer head look slightly bigger? I like the shape of the older eyes better than the newer one but I'm partial to that sort of eye shape in general and its what attracted me to the Orijean sculpt.

    6. I like the left one better. More abstract like Modigliani. Just my 2 cents.

      • x 1
    7. It does look like the new version is bigger! I haven't measured either but if I do, I'll let you know.

    8. I don't think he needs to make more sculpts, he needs to get the dolls promised and paid for out the door and to the customer. Now he is playing with this Octo thing, which I don't understand at all. Even if he didn't come up with any new sculpts, he can make a good living if he would get production to speed up.Then he wouldn't have to have all the *sales* to tempt buyers.

    9. Octo thing? Is he seriously messing around with another new project when he hasn't even completed the previous projects (that people have paid money for and have not yet received, I might add)?

I understand the creative impulse and NEED to work on Thing. Now!!! I get that all the time with my writing. The Muses can be fickle beasts and unreasonably demanding. But you need to have a little discipline in order to get things done. Yes, I have an embarrassing number of WIP's on my HD. Not gonna deny it. But! I also have no financial obligation to anyone for said work. I have not sold those unfinished stories to any publisher or offered them as a patron sort of thing to faithful readers because they're unfinished. That doesn't sit right with me and I feel like it would put undue pressure on me to complete them.

    10. After 19 months, Amanda fashion with the new heads is at BJDivas getting ready to ship. Not sure how I feel. she's going to have to be pretty special to stick around. :|

    11. @petiteballerine Well, I hope you do like her! I also selfishly hope this might mean mine will be sent before the dead of winter.

      • x 1
    12. that's why I posted here right away, to give people a glimmer of hope. :apresent:

    13. Congrats to those waiting on these dolls.

    14. @petiteballerine Glimmer of hope received! Thank you! I bet BJDivas is also feeling better.

    15. @Revvy Thank you for posting this. I didn't realise there was such a difference between the sculpts! I'm waiting on a Grown Saint now and this is really helpful to see. :aeyepop:

To everyone else, I hope everyone who has been waiting for a long time receives their dolls soon. I've only been waiting since August this year, but all this talk about long wait times is making me anxious. :sigh

    16. Hey if this was addressed earlier I apologize but what happened to the waiting room thread?

    17. It was put into the wiki section that made it so you had to follow html code to add your data, it's still HERE

    18. Thank you!

    19. @tiarah - The black card will be for the head and the white card will be for the body. Odd that there's not one for each head though.

@Revvy - Great comparison! I do think I like the snarkiness of the older head though. There's something so classic about that design. That said, I'm keen on seeing a softer side to him with the larger eyes and slightly different features.

@SteamWitch - Octo thing? Where did you see this?

    20. Thanks for clarifying @Quiet and Insane! I bought my boy second-hand so I'll have to go through his box again to double check if there are actually 2 black cards. I know I have at least 1 of each.

    21. So soap? He's making soap. Had to laugh at the google translation though:
      "Oktoya soap.
      During various sampling.

My family will use only good ingredients.
Think of your arms like macaroons."

@tiarah - If he's from roughly the same year(s) as my guys there should be three in theory. Good luck!

      • x 2
    22. Soap got me surprised.
I come to this thread from time to time, but I never expected to see stuff like soap in here. (I was like wow...really?)

I mean...he still needs to deliver dolls to people though (and he's making soap). :sweat

    23. Probably our money subsidizing soap that makes our arms like macaroons.

    24. I laughed too hard! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

    25. Yep, It took 6 months. I have entered my sarcastic zone.

      • x 1
    26. Did I read that right? Dollshe main creator is instead of focusing on his successful and back ordered run of dolls is instead putting his energy into octopus shaped soaps........................... WHY?!!!!!

      • x 2
    27. While soaps may be annoying to us, there are probably times when he can't work on dolls that are ordered. He may be waiting on more doll parts to be delivered from the casting service.

      • x 2
    28. Isn't he the casting service? I mean, there were dolls from other companies that were cast by Dollshe, weren't there? Or am I horribly remembering things?

For the 18 months that I waited, apparently he was trying to set up a new 3D printer and hadn't managed to get it hooked up/working. At least that's what I was told in email multiple times when I asked for a delivery time and why it was taking so long. I dunno about you guys, but if I bought a new, very expensive machine and couldn't get it to work within a month at the most, I'd be demanding something be done by the manufacturer to either repair or replace the obviously defective machine I'd been sold. Or Dollshe lied to me about why diddly-squat was done to make the doll I'd paid for in full and it was an effort to get me to wait longer until such time as they got around to providing me what I'd paid for.

      • x 5
    29. @Iron_Dog Yeah he is the casting service so that is no excuse. The only thing I can think of is that he has a staffing problem or doesn't want to hire more people to do the work.

    30. Im still waiting on Tom, and the really good thing that makes me very very very happy that Dollshe doesnt have a quick turn around is that I asked my dealer if she could ask them to swap out the Mystic body for the 28M because that body is one of the most beautiful mature looking male bodies out there and Im really happy he allowed me to, without extra cost. The only thing that surprised me is that he said that he hasnt produced the prototype yet so the fit may not be perfect.... but thats a chance Im willing to take. I love Tom, and think his head needs the 28M body to look like how he did in Top Gun (one of my favorite movies). I do like the digital mock up and do like Leonardo and Johnny, so Im optimistic of the likeness :)

I do like his venture into soap making! Ive received a sample of home made soap in a doll eye package and switched from commercial soaps since they seem to have been the cause of my eczema. It would be cool if he made soaps of his doll sculpts... specifically the Natalie crying face XD

I think ill just ignore the wait time for my own sanity, stop waiting and focus on other things so the wait doesnt seem so daunting. I wonder if his production process only starts if he has enough orders of the same sculpt and skin color.

    31. So instead of working on all the dolls people have ordered, he is too busy on his new soap business venture?
That is unbelievable and unfair for all those people who are waiting years for their dolls!!

      • x 3
    32. I know Diana heads exist. I've waited almost 18 months for mine, and frankly, I'm getting a little impatient.

      • x 1
    33. My assumption is that he is desperate for money, and soap is a side business that is helping to supplement income...same as selling some dolls at a 73% discount, so that he actually has some capital to live/work off of. (Even now I find myself vaguely tempted by the ridiculous 70cm Adonis package, knowing that I would probably just be throwing my money away on something that I will never receive.) I can't decide whether to be angry at him or pity him. I can think of another one-man company that got itself into a similar boat and eventually saved itself...quite some time after being banned here on DoA. The very idea of that happening to Dollshe is heartbreaking.

    34. @celga I never thought of it that way, that definitely seems very possible in this case.

My doll arrived but the candy kitten eyes I got for him don't fit (12mm) candy kitten 10mm don't work either.
Can anyone recommend eyes that would fit a Rey Lewis?

    35. So the Monica Belluci doll is not made yet?? I wanted to at least see what she looked like as a finished head, Tom is not made either?? Could it be a license issue then, maybe someone contacted the celebrities and told them that a doll maker from S. Korea was going to make a doll in their likeness and sell them and they could not get a profit from it?? What could be the hold up?? And not to mention the other dolls that are being delayed from production......

    36. @derilan85 I was told they had the 3D rendering as a preview, but he is not complete, so those 3D renders might end up looking way different than the actual production. Might be the 3D printer issue mentioned earlier?

Its Dollshe being mysterious again, Im guessing those dolls arent picking up his interest so he's waiting until his mojo gets back to continue working on them. I dont think its a licensing issue because it was still a go for me. Im thinking this is like the last time when he introduced so many new lines and projects and then didnt complete them, the same time as Johnny, Diana etc

@celga wonderfully said. I sympathize with his current situation, but at the same time, he needs to do what others are doing and halt sales until things pick up again. I think the sales did him more harm than good (no one wants to pay full price for dolls first or secondhand) and the production process transparency is keeping buyers away. Im not going to lie, I did feel jealous when a person said they only had to wait less than 2 months to get their 28M dollshe, and here I am (and others) nearing 2 years. I understand the wait time for me since there is no prototype, but some people are still waiting on Diana, Amanda etc, dolls that have been complete for quite some time.

    37. The constant sales he's been doing are helping no one, least of all him. He may get some quick cash but he has to be underselling the dolls (thus reducing his profits) and the list of people waiting and waiting on dolls they ordered, some literally years ago, keeps growing.

    38. when dollshe stopped offering honeyskin to us and companies like dollstown who use their casting service, I knew things were going pear-shaped. and that's been a while.
now I'm waiting for Amanda to ship from bjdivas. I swear, this girl is trouble.

      • x 1
    39. Actually ,he resumed offering honey skin : I received a cocoa tan in April and ordered a Emerald green in August, through BJDivas.

the honey skin is just been offered separately from the pure skin on occasion.

    40. My husband recently ordered a Fashion Maxi boy in honey skin through BJDivas a couple months ago as well. Is it possible he just temporarily stopped offering it? Based on the website, it looks like it's always available (I'm willing to be wrong, though). :)

    41. yes. I realize it's being offered sometimes again. but it wasn't for quite a while. to me, it showed a change in how the company worked. It showed me a change in commitment and focus. too time-consuming. too expensive. I don't think any outside company offers it through dollshe unless it's a special situation like Fifth Motif hands.

    42. i'm looking at buying at least one of the 28M size boys, and wanted to know what owners think about the various pose bodies so far. I felt like i either wanted L2 or L4 - does anyone have both bodies and want to share their experiences? I tried to search and read old posts, but it's possible a lot of folks still don't have their deliveries i guess.

I like that L2 has the nicer looking torso for photos with less clothing, but how much does it limit the posing?
And, the L4 has so many lumpy joints (hip, thighs), but seems like incredible poses - maybe better clothed?
I have no other dolls with the articulated hip joint, so i'm not sure how different it is to pose.

    43. @Grimalkin thank you for your question! I’m also thinking about 28M man and cannot choose between all these body types))) and also I cannot choose between the molds they are so different but all of them are handsome) which mold are you going to buy?

    44. @Singirka - it's either David or Grant, or both haha. i thought about the "fun" sized (fashion) versions, but they would be such different proportions from all my other crew, it's like nah. i wonder if i should ask that Q in the 28M thread...

    45. Seems like the 18M line is on sale again and even though I just got my Saint, it's so tempting. Especially since I still want to get a body for my floating Adonis head...

    46. Yay, got a tracking for my Adonis \o/ hopefully it will arrive on time for my birthday, and without taxes xD
(For reference, I had finished my layaway on October 1st 2018. It was a full package order but I switched the EN&SA heads to other Dollshe last October on their suggestion to speed things up)

    47. I'd like to buy jointed hands for my Dollshe guys. They have old style Hound bodies...so my question is which hands fit? Dikadoll or some others?

    48. The new Granado jointed hands for the Zen body would look amazing on a Dollshe wrist, they are thin and elegant. I'll probably be getting some of those myself.

    49. For the old style Hound and Pure bodies, I've found that Soom ball jointed hands work nicely. The scale IMO is good, although color matching may be a bit off. Soom White / Dollshe Pale are decent match, as are Dollshe Oriental / Soom NS (although the Soom NS is somewhat darker, but I feel still acceptable).

      • x 1
    50. I have the L2 body and I can say the the weight of him makes him a bit harder to pose, but I think the extra joints in the upper arms and thigh do help pose him more naturally without popping a joint out. My only issue is standing since the extra jointing in the thigh doesn’t have anything to lock it in place so it’s prone to moving a lot. I haven’t tried sueding or putting in the silicon pieces he comes with, but I am not sure if it’ll help his stability. I think the body might need some mods.

Edit: I think I the L4 body might face similar issue on due to the weight of 70cm doll. But if you like the fashion size, because if it’s lightness, it uses the L4 joints beautifully

      • x 1
    51. @NatsukiP - thank you for your thoughts about the L2 & L4, i had a feeling standing was challenging since it seems like a lot of people are sueding the joints. by the time i quite waffling, the fashion sized Grant was sold out again, and honestly the SD size goes better with my crew so i got the L2 70cm sized ones. I just didn't like the aesthetics of the hip joint, though i'm sure it makes the poses better. i will be prepared to suede, i just ordered some thin sheepskin material.

    52. Hey guys! Been a while since I popped in here, but did anyone else hear about the resin colors changing for fresh, oriental and copper oriental? The dollshe and dollstown sites haven't said anything on the matter, but the sculptor for fifth motif did sometime last month. Did the other sites mention it on a different web page?

    53. @FactitiousEuphoria - I only heard it from Mr Cho too. Interesting really as Dollshe has always been well known for their stable resin colours.

    54. This is such bad news as I am matching 15 heads to the Arsene oriental body I have. I pray that the two Arsene bodies I ordered will be old resin, but I doubt it.

    55. fresh is much pinker. mr K had a tough time trying to get it close to the older fresh. one of the many reasons my amanda took forever. I don't have an old fresh new enough for a comparison photo. I love the subtleness of it, (old) but new is quite realistic.

    56. I am not surprised. My three copper oriential dolls (ordered at three different times) were never the same colour as the the resin colour chart on the website.

    57. Oh, this might explain why my newer oriental (and to a lesser extent, fresh) arrivals are definitely pinker than my older (2014) Venitu... I thought it just yellowing, but I as a bit perplexed since although my dolls are out of their boxes, I almost NEVER open the curtains, and Dollshe colors weren't supposed to change a lot xD

    58. Well, this could be a problem. I have an IM Hound in copper oriental for myself and a Rey Lewis also in copper oriental for my daughter on a long layaway with BJDivas. From Mr. Cho's photos the copper oriental looks kinda peachy? If anyone has photos of recent arrivals they would be greatly appreciated. Also have Husky, Saint and Bermann in fresh on the same layaway so photos of fresh would be great too.
