DollShe craft 28M and 26F Fashion Pose 44/41 cm size - Part 2

Dec 19, 2015

    1. Sartorial J made the suit and it fits perfect and very professionally constructed. Need some shoes. Shirt's optional.
I was intending to post some in focus pic of him soonish.

    2. Whoops. I may have just ordered a Grant Phillipe XD That escalated quickly.

Ibrahim is my Grant Phillip. Lovely isn't he.( I still couldn't get him quite in focus for unknown reasons.)

    5. Well, I've been eyeing Grant Phillippe and Ausley Love for two very dear-to-my-heart characters for a while now, and I was content to wait a bit and hoard my pennies...and then I see that they're discontinuing them! So, I'll be eating mac n' cheese for a few months because I ended up getting one of each. Hopefully I won't earn one of those fancy 1-year badges! I've been scouring the forum for concrete answers, so I'll ask here and see if I can get all of them in one place.

What are the best eye sizes for Grant and Ausely? I've seen something about 7mm for Ausely and 8mm for Grant - can anyone confirm this? Also, I'm trying to find the right eyes in such small sizes, but it's been tough. I saw the really pretty Glazki eyes mentioned somewhere in this thread, but I saw something today about them copying someone else's designs, and their site doesn't take Paypal, so I don't think I will go through them. I need a really specific color for Ausley, a kind of light, seaglass green. I've looked at all the sites in @MadamMauMau 's wonderful eye thread, but none of them quite work.

As far as wigs, I'm planning to make my own when they get here, but I want to have interim wigs for pictures and such when they get here. What sizes fit Grant and Ausley best? I'm leaning towards Monique wigs, but I'm sure I can find others, though the smaller wigs seem hard to find, just like eyes.

Any info or resources would be super appreciated. I'm on the bandwagon now, I might as well go all-in! Thanks <3

    6. Glazki 7mm small iris work for Grant. I haven't heard anything about copying, so can't comment on that. They are widely used and are cheap and reliable, so I would recommend them on that basis. I don't much like the construction of the eye, so I don't use them as my forever eyes. However, they are good as placeholders. Enso eyes on Etsy also make small iris 8mm, which work fine too. She puts up batches periodically, so you have to keep an eye out (badum tish) for when the next batch goes up. She notifies on Flickr and might also notify in her eye thread in here. Worth having a look.

    7. Ibrahim is wearing Masterpiece eyes:
      Welcome to Masterpiece Eyes

I have also used Poppvy Size eyes from CandyWorld on Etsy.

AncientTales on Etsy also makes nice small eyes.

    8. Hi all,

I currently have a 28M Fashion David Kuncci on layaway.

I have a couple questions about the L4 body. I went over to Flickr but I wasn't too successful finding fashion sized images of the L4 and L2 bodies.

The larger L4s seem like the joints had some gaping spaces in certain poses. Is this an issue with the fashion sized L4s?

Also, does anyone have an L2 or L1 do they sit and pose well (or are they able to do a large variety of poses)? Thanks!

    9. Technically yes, but your mileage may vary! Depending on your personal scale of aesthetics to posing, it may or may not bother you.

My King Corey is fashion size, L4. His arm mobility joints especially gap in certain poses. However, I personally don't mind at all. I couldn't cross his arms nearly as successfully without those joints, they help him look natural and relaxed. I wouldn't change the L4 body now I've experienced it, because I value the range of motion highly.
However, the doll also wears clothes that covers from the feet to the neck, so none of the joints are actually on show normally. Perhaps I'd have felt differently about it if I intended to have any skin revealed on the doll.

So from my personal experience, the gaping - which I don't even really see because of clothes with my doll - is a really small price to pay for the much more natural poses he can pull off. I wouldn't call it a problem or an issue at all.
You might feel differently though? It probably depends a lot on how you intend to dress the doll too!

Also, I don't have a classic-size doll to compare, but I have heard that the fashion size L4 performs a little better, because the decreased size and weight seems to stop the joints from popping out so much (I can at least say that my fashion doll doesn't pop his joints at all). Somebody else could advise better here.

      • x 1
    10. Thanks for all the good info!

I like the idea of full range of motion but I'd also like to be able to do scenes in various states of dress and undress. I noticed on the Classic sized doll that the thigh mobility joints really seem to pop out of socket in some sitting poses.Have you had that issue with your King Corey? Also, are the L4s difficult to get into standing positions?

Thanks again for taking the time to educate me on Dollshe. :)

    11. @bananapudding -- I have a fashion L4 28M as well, and second what @nattherat about its amazing posing ability and the natural poses he pulls off. The range of motion is pretty incredible. When people were first getting their dolls with L4 bodies, I do remember reading that people with the big guys on that body did have some stability issues with them, but it doesn't seem to be the case with the smaller guys, as I haven't observed any similar issues with mine. It's very stable, he can easily balance on one foot standing.

All that being said, for me personally, I don't play with my dolls a whole lot and prefer to leave them on display the vast bulk of the time, so the versatility is too much for me. :sweat The undressed aesthetic is all right, the most noticeable thing would be the belly joint, but if you're used to that aesthetic in dolls it shouldn't bother you too much. All the other joints are imo very unobtrusive.

      • x 1
    12. Thanks! I have the idea of posing this guy with various props and backgrounds and I was worried the L4 joints might look super out of place. Its good to know he can balance one one foot too, that gives me some ideas.

    13. Oh not at all, he stands amazing!

About the thighs/bum area: I may be wrong, but I believe all of the 28M bodies do look a bit weird in the bum while sitting, and there isn't a problem exclusive to versions with thigh mobility. It's just the way the top of the leg is shaped. When sitting, it gaps somewhat. That's the only thing I find a little bit of a bother, but a) not by much and b) I'd have to deal with it no matter which version of the 28M body I picked.

If that's not what you're talking about, and you're talking about the thigh mobility joint alone: It doesn't really pop, in my experience! I couldn't say that it responds any differently to any of the more typical joints. You definitely can accidentally push it out into the wrong position, but that's the same as any other joint. You just bend it back to where you want! I don't know which photos you've seen so I can't comment, but perhaps the person taking the photo was not so concerned about creating a natural pose/aesthetic.

At any rate, from my own experience again, it's no problem at all. My King Corey poses like a dream, I wish all my dolls had the same range of motion. Sometimes he can take a bit more work to pose, but that's more because he has a higher number of joints than my other dolls, rather than due to the engineering of the joints.

For the record, you can pose fashion L4s in any kind of typical pose that BJDs on average can do, and never ever see the gapping. It won't affect any of those poses. It only really comes into play if you're doing something like properly/naturally crossing the arms over the chest, or drawing his knees up to his chest. Both of which are poses that cause some body-oddity on most dolls anyway.

I hope this helps! Again, I think it just comes down to what you want to do with the doll! The advantage of the L4 is in the vastly increased range of motion (I thought I wouldn't like the neck joint, turns out I love the neck joint!), and the trade-off is that the body is - in some opinions - less aesthetically pleasing. Personally I love it though!

      • x 1
    14. Thanks! It could be in the pics that I saw, the doll was being pushed to his absolute limit. I'll see if can find the images and pm them to you.

I'm so glad you're happy with the L4 body. This is only my 2nd doll and my 1st time for a Dollshe so I'm still a newbie. :)

    15. I have an L4 Fashion Grant about to be rescued from customs and I will do a full review, set against my standard Fashion Grant, if that will be of any good to anyone. I will link the review in here. It won't be until next week, though, as this one is pretty full already.

      • x 1
    16. That would be amazing. I'm still strongly considering keeping my layaway as an L4, but I'd love to see what an L1 can do compared to an L4. Thank you!

    17. No problem. I am suspecting that joints will be more successful than others, so I ordered all of them to test out. As they can be ordered in various permutations and combinations of jointing, I am hoping that this sort of review might help people decide which joints will be useful to them. At this point, I'm a little sceptical about the L4, but let's see.

      • x 1
    18. I think review like what you're planning would be really helpful. I'm looking to it! :)

    19. I definitely made an aesthetics vs posability choice when I decided on the L2 body. I do look forward to seeing some comparisons of the different join options but I'm hoping I made the right choice. I don't think I'm going to require crazy flexibility - I hope! I just really prefer the unbroken torso on the L1 and L2

      • x 1
    20. The L2 looks really good. I hope it works well for you :) It would be cool if just the torso pieces cold be purchased from Dollshe. I love the look of the 2 joint torso, but I'm worried I might need the range of motion the jointed waist supplies.

    21. I ended up deciding to change my L4 to an L2. I just love the way the 2 piece torso (no pelvis and neck joint) looks in photos.

    22. My Erica Snow Arrived on the 29th haven't had time to do a box opening or anything on here yet. Finding out who she is will be fun. I have some names in mind, but until I paint her face, I just can't decide. I started drafting patterns to clothe her as well.

    23. Congrats on your new girl!

    24. Okay, I'm currently waiting on 3 big Dollshe guys, and today I suddenly got struck by the idea of having a Fashion sized Grown Bermann... (actually the initial idea rapidly ballooned to 'wouldn't it be neat to have smaller versions of ALL of them?! Or at least a Fashion David, Saint and Bermann! And then cause they'd kinda be interesting artist models it would be nice to have some female ones too...' I quickly chopped that idea off and burned it before it could take root) Because he'd fit perfectly on my bookshelf! (shelves are too small and books are too big for larger dolls to fit). I thought I'd convinced myself that no, I have 3 dolls I just paid for and am waiting on, I don't want or need to get another. Especially as I'm already getting a large Bermann head...

But then I started thinking more about it... None of the ones I'm getting will be on the new Mystic body, so I'll be able to see that, even if it is a miniature version. He'll be nice and easy to move and pose (as in not a hulking mass to drag out). Gahh, I think I've reconvinced myself that I want to get him (not yet though, my bank account will kill me if I try to get him now. Which is a shame what with the sale on... But I think I'd want all the face versions for him too, which is again a shame what with the full set thing too... Ugghh).

Anyway! I figured there are about a million questions I should ask about the Fashion sized dolls first...

      1) How easy is it to find eyes for them?
      2) How easy is it to find wigs for them? Are the wigs available for this size largely the fur ones or are there some non-fur ones too? I tend to like long wigs and find the fur ones are a bit too light.
      3) Is it difficult to give them faceups what with their heads being so small? Do finer details have to be sacrificed because of the small size?
      4) On the subject of faceups. Eyelashes. Do you have to make your own to get them small enough to work with the size?
      5) Clothes. I think I saw that Tonner clothes fit them? Which would be wonderful, because I have some Tonner dolls. No spare clothes unfortunately, but he could still pilfer an outfit or two while the Tonners aren't looking.
      6) Shoes. Do Tonner shoes fit them? If not how hard/easy is it to find shoes for them?
      7) If making clothes for them is it difficult to find things that scale well with them such as buttons small enough to not seem strange?

Maybe not quite a million, still a few though :P

    25. @Shae I hate to admit it, but I know I'm personally finding wigs a bit of a hassle. It may not affect you, but I am significantly worse off financially this year than I was last, so I have almost zero budget for doll stuff. However, I hate for my dolls to be wigless! I purchased some Monique wigs for my fashion Arsene and King Corey, because Monique (whilst feeling expensive to me right now) are very economical.

However... They don't look great. I'm not satisfied with them like I hoped. Perhaps because of the realistic skull shapes, elastic wigs sit on their heads much poorer than on my other dolls. It's made me see why many go out of their way to make or purchase hard cap wigs for dollshe dolls. Something I didn't feel I could do because of budget, but now feel I would have been better off saving the cash and just waiting until I eventually have better finances!

That was a bit in-depth, but my point was that depending on your finances vs how you want them to look, I think it can be a hassle! If finances or personal skill aren't an issue, there are incredible hard cap wigs for them out there! If you're going for something cheaper like I did, the fit may end up looking bad on such a tiny head. It might take some trial and error.

(At this point, I'm coming to terms with realising I'll have to tackle trying to make hard cap wigs myself haha.)

      • x 2
    26. @nattherat Yeah a quick look on ebay didn't reveal much in terms of smaller wigs. Though I think the measurements for the 18M Fashion heads are slightly bigger than those for the 28M Fashion heads? So that might give me a little bit more variety. Very interesting to know about the way the size affects how the wigs sit though.

Fortunately (or unfortunately really, but fortunately for my bank account), I just noticed the full set sale doesn't include 18M Mystic dolls, Fashion size or otherwise. Which means I have a little bit more time to browse about and ponder what I want to get for him (and hope for a full set sale on the Mystics eventually).

Huh, I've never heard of hard cap wigs before. Looks like I have some researching to do! Though personally I'm a little wary of trying to make things myself... They virtually never turn out the way I want them to, and if it involves a lot of stitching I can see my fingers cursing me in the future :P

    27. The character that my Bermann is intended for has specific highlights, so I doubt I'll be finding any wigs that match it. I have made a hard cap wig for another doll, so I know I can make my own wig. XD

    28. Monique wigs are lovely but they don't really size down well. I'm pretty worried about wigs for my guys but I'll figure something out. One will have long hair so I'm not so concerned about that as I can pretty easily make a hardcap long wig. But I've never done short hair before and am not sure how well I'll be able to pull that off.

    29. Chewin makes hard caps for the fun-sized 28Ms. I can't remember if he has a mini Arsene, but it's always worth asking him what he can make for. He is an accommodating chap.

      Wig > Middle size wig

SartoriaJ also occasionally have wigs for the Fashion 28Ms. Not sure whether they will be making wigs for the other sizes. Again, worth asking.

    30. You are the vestige of all dollshe fashion knowledge, MauMau. Thank you!

    31. Can I get a quick consensus on everyone's wait-time experience? I ordered a few weeks ago through BJDivas, and when I asked about wait times, they said anywhere from two to five months, but I'm seeing a lot longer waits in combing through this thread.

If you've only ordered from Dollshe once, how long was your wait, and when was your order placed? If you've ordered more than once, what was your shortest wait and your longest wait, and what dates did you place your order for each?

I'm hoping to get a better feel, and maybe these numbers will help others with the waiting anxiety. Thanks!

    32. The Dollshe wait times depend on whether the item you ordered is actually in production at the time or not. For instance, if you order one of the new dolls that are shown in grey and are prototypes, it typically takes about one year for them to go into production. But if you order a doll that is already being produced, it is usually about 3 months. I have not seen any of the fashion size "grown" dolls yet but since Grown Bermann is starting to ship in Classic size hopefully that means they are getting closer to production.

    33. @Therealwalter I think there might be a mini Grown Bermann on Instagram. Can't tell for sure.

    34. I've been waiting to see a fashion size grown Bermann, hoping they're being made soon. Seven full months of waiting here, sort of put the excitement about it in the back of my mind. Seeing people receiving Dollshe dolls now has brought it to the surface.

    35. @Therealwalter That's good to hear. I've got a fashion Grant and Ausley on order, which aren't new as far as I know, seeing as people have them already. That gives me some hope, thanks :)

    36. thanks for the link @Richie. but not exactly encouraging since the doll is broken - elastic issue it seems. I hope Dollshe isn't rushing things and skimping on quality control.

now I'll be obsessively checking my order page. :XD:

    37. I suspect the weird posture is due to the L4 torso jointing and maybe the elastic knot is stuck somewhere where it shouldn't be. Restringing ought to fix it because all the parts look intact. I hope this dolls owner can figure it out and enjoy her doll. As far as I know the L4 fashion dolls for 28m have been better posers than the Classic size L4s. Hmmmmmmm.........Shades of my sway backed King Corey.:(

      • x 1
    38. @Therealwalter - yes. I suspect a twisted cord or knot stuck somewhere, but that is an odd pose.
I love my pose plus David, but the two I have on order are regular. once you've got them clothed, the posing isn't quite so possible, and
if they're nude (!) the lack of joints is more esthetically pleasing.

btw, every time I see your name I miss Fringe.

      • x 1
    39. Can anyone who's had both big and small boys confirm whether that IG picture looks to be fashion size or not? I keep looking at it and thinking the hands look too big compared to the finger, but I haven't had either size of BJD for a while now and the angle's kind of strange.

Either way I'm pleased to see that both body styles have shipped. That makes me hopeful that production's keeping a decent pace, molds are being finished behind the scenes and we can dream that the realistic schedule is fairly realistic. =p And I think the hands are the same as Arsene's? I vaguely remember something about finishing the hands being the holdup for Arsene.

    40. Edit: My husband thinks Bermann looks much larger than Grammy, says he's full size, and I'm seeing what I want to see. /sigh he's probably right.

    41. Yeah judging by the finger length compared to the face and comparing my own finger to my Grown Bermann head I'd say that's a full size one, not a Fashion sized one unfortunately. Granted, finger/hand sizes vary.

On another subject, one thing has confused and slightly concerned me.

Chances are if I like the Fashion size I'll eventually end up getting myself a Fashion sized David Kuncci. But this news notice here on the Dollshe website says:

"Here is the rest amount of discontinued doll lines after 200 limited editions are sold.
When all are sold out they are all discontinued.

      Classic line

-28M Classic 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 57
-26F Classic 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 34
-18M Classic Arsene 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 102
-8B Classic 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 122
-6G Classic 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 73

      Fashion line

      – 28M Fashion 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 83
      – 26F Fashion 200 limited editions, rest amounts are 105
      – 18M Classic Arsene limited editions, rest amounts are 133"

Which confuses me. Because I thought the 28M dolls were fairly new and so would continue to be produced for a while? But this seems to be saying that they're 'limited editions' with only 200 each and will be discontinued once those are all sold... Unless it's just been oddly translated or they have an unusual definition of discontinued. I'm just concerned that by the time I want to buy myself a Fashion sized Kuncci they might not be selling them anymore D: Then again judging by the number of 'last' 18M classic sales they had...

So anyone know if this is saying what I think it says or not?

    42. This thread might explain that press release or at least put you in contact with someone who might know.

Event - [DOLLSHE CRAFT] Full Package Sale + Lottery

    43. @bananapudding Oh! Thank you :D

Hmm looks like someone already asked the same thing:

So maybe I should try to get myself the head at least... But the heads don't say 'Limited Edition', only the bodies with the head do?

    44. I'm not sure how the whole limited edition thing is gonna work. You might contact @BJDivas, they happen to be a Dollshe dealer and might have further insight.

    45. If you look back over the Dollshe threads, you will see that they have a "discontinuation" sale every year or so. The various sculpts have now been "discontinued" so many times I've lost count. It's to provoke panic buying (and presumably why there are so many Dollshes on the secondary market. Panic buying tends to lead to buyer's remorse). Who knows? One day he might actually discontinue something, but I would take it all with a large pinch of salt.

      • x 2
    46. Enough salt to line the rim of a margarita glass, at least.;)

      • x 4
    47. Oooo! That looks cool! I can't read it...but the picture is definitely of a classic size, not fashion size. Regardless, it's great to see the pose+ mystic body! I Have a Saint and Bernard coming on mystic bodies...but I got one pose, and one pose+, then I'd have both just in case and to see how I liked them. This looks like I will. I have no problem restringing if I need to. And I will have so much fun with posing comparisons when they all come (I say all, b/c I also have a Diana and Arsene fashion on the way...eventually)

    48. Yeah I did wonder as I'd seen a lot of so-called 'discontinuation' sales with the old 18M classic line. Still thought it best to ask around first just in case.

Anyway, I am weak. It wasn't actually the discontinuation thing that did it for me, it was the prospect of saving myself money in the long run :P Since those 30% off runs were still going I grabbed myself a David Kuncci and while I was at it I ummed and ahed a bit before also deciding to get a Fashion Amanda Beauty too. Saved myself nearly $300 USD :D I did that this morning. And now most of the dolls are saying 'Sold out' XD so my timing was good for once! (I'm guessing the 'sold out' thing is just them switching prices over or catching up with current orders)

On the other hand this now means I'm waiting for five Dollshe dolls... I think I need to start clearing some space for them.

Hmm, so 6 to 8mm eyes and 5 to 6 inch wig sizes for he Fashion dolls right?

      • x 2
    49. Does this mean they are sold out for good? It says "second round" and there is supposed to be four rounds?

    50. Every Fashion doll is labelled as 'Sold Out,' so I assume some sort of halt in orders is going on. We'll just have to wait for the next round, I suppose.

On another note: Has anyone received a 16F Diana yet? I've been eyeballing her like mad and want to get more opinions. (and how I wish they actually showed her with the larger bust.. and ya'know, the pose plus body).

    51. Nope. No Diana yet. I have a fashion size of her on order since December...but I chose the small bust. There will be a ton of pics and comparison pica when my 4 fashions arrive.

    52. Oh, what a bummer.I really wanted to order a Khan today. I don't see any mention of rounds on Khan's listing and I'm not familiar with Dollshe's sale practices. Does that mean he might be sold out forever? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just really wanted him for a long time and I'm kinda becoming paranoid that I might've missed the opportunity to get him.

    53. Looks like Khan is on sale again. Basic Archives - DollShe craft

    54. All of the fashion line seems to be up and ready once more! Now with nifty little 30-day countdown timers.

    55. I think that might be due to their 15th Anniversary? Just got the update on the newest blog post. I am honestly just excited that we get to order the hand AND head parts seperately now

    56. I've been wondering how well Tonner pants fit the 26F fashion dolls? My Erica Snow needs cargo pants. I stumbled across these: Cargo pants for Tonner girl 16. 40 colors available .
I have never made doll pants before, but I will experiment with it when I have free time.

    57. The Tonner girls are slimmer, so their pants don't fit. Some MSD sized things fit the 26F fashion dolls ok. I have leggings made for MSD dolls that I have used on mine. Anything fitted in the bottom area is a no go though because the Dollshe girls have lots more junk in their trunk.

    58. I wondered about that because the hips seemed fuller than what I'd seen on the Tonner bodies. I guess I have no choice but to sew! Thanks!
