Dolls you'll never have....

I think Volks mana? It's limited quantity and she rarely appears on anywhere..

 

Probably a Fairyland Chiwoo or Shiwoo... I saw their sculpts on the Cerberus Project Database and loved them! Or any Fairyland sculpt in general for the time being. Until I'm done school, that's a no-go

 

Soom Vampire Gluino.... Definitely a grail but I have no idea if he'll be released again. More than that is even if he is rereleased, I won't be able to afford him Forever looking on the market place even for just his head lol

 

Volks Oscar. I enjoy Rose of Versailles, I love Oscar as a character, but I'm content just to admire Volks' promotional photos.

 

Kinda worried that I'll never have a chance at gettings a Volks SD Chii. I adore her, and she is my grail.
I don't mind if she is a bit banged up either.. but with only 200 being sold, and apparantley only occasionally showing up on the second hand market, I am doubtful I'll have the money ready when she does become available - especially if heaps of other people are waiting for her.

Also, being in Australia, if it shows up in USD.. eesh. I know she goes for around 1000 - 1500, so if she's USD, it would be about 2170 AUD for me.

 

Probably a fullset of Ringdoll's Virgo.
I especially adore his face mold and instantly fell in love with him, but seeing as it has been like, more than 4 years since he'd been released, the chance one will show up is very low.

Other than that, probably a fullset of Dream Valley's Rah Eagle. I really want his head and legs although his size is a little smaller than the other dolls I'm currently looking at.

 

Anything Enabi. I've been wanting one of her tiny imps forever.

Nabarro Wally. I don't want to rule him out completely, but he seems like a near-impossible grail.

Doll-that-shall-not-be-named in blue or yellow or neon green. Very expensive, very rare. I've never seen a full blue one go up for sale secondhand. The other two are pure fantasy.

Dream of Doll Black Elf Ducan. I should probably chuck most of my other DoD grails up here as well. I've seen one Black Caracal for sale in all my years, when I first joined DoA back in 2013.

IGO Echo, and a million other small-artist BJDs from TaoBao and the like. I spend way more time chasing sculpts I can't get than I do actually finding them when it comes to TaoBao. Too hard to catch.

I try not to complain too much, considering that I've been blessed with some fairly impossible grails. My collection is the fanciest it has ever been. I'd be willing to forgo most of these, but DoD and Nabarro are irresistible to me.

 

Yup. I mean I'm willing to do it, but it won't be easy. Especially with import taxes.
$2000 would be $315 in import tax, and I haven't even considered shipping.

That said, she definitely holds a special place for me. If the person would do layaway, I'd still be willing to pay a decent amount.

An Enchanted Doll by Marina Bychkova, specifically her Daphne. I've been a fan of her work for years now, but even if she was selling a doll, any doll, I could not spend that kind of money on a BJD and sleep well at night. So gorgeous, though. Her Princess and the Pea also speaks to me on a personal level.

 

SOOM Handol Lycanthrope - I just missed his release and I don’t think he was at all popular or is likely to be re-released :C. Although I am starting to move away from SD dolls and he is colossal!

And a Resin Enchanted Doll (I don’t think they’re too hard to find but are a few thousand $ upwards). I’m occasionally tempted, but saving/spending for my horses and parrots always wins out .

If he is ever rereleased, I am going to take money out of my savings and shove it in the bank immediately so I can get him and not miss out. He's the first BJD I ever saw, and the one that got me curious about these dolls. He had been discontinued by the time I saw him, but I always keep him in mind. He's my elusive grail.

 

I was recently talking to another doll hobbyist, and was reminded that as a BJD newbie, I really wanted a Shinydoll. Or at least, the Thaasa-III body, because of its posing reputation. But at the time I wasn't so attracted to Shinydoll head sculpts, and the dolls also seemed quite daunting to order from Japan, so I never got one.

Shinydoll has closed down and the dolls are pretty rare secondhand. Now I kinda regret missing a chance to handle a Thaasa-III body. I say "handle" instead of "own", because I've moved on to other dolls and I'm still not sure whether I now want a Shinydoll enough to start grail hunting. I think I'm happy enough to let the chances go. But boy, I'd love to be able to play with one of these lovely dolls for a day or two...

 

Probably any doll greater than 60cm because they just out of my preferred size of being portable and manageable for me. I am only 4’8 and the two 60cm dolls I do have eat up my hands carrying capacity. I will unfortunately have to keep my collection barbie sized <40cm.

This old post just got revived, and it's a bit awesome to see that I did get my grail that I mentioned in the above post.

 

At first I thought I had no regrets when Doll Chateau Gladys got discontinued but it does bite me back sometimes.
I wonder if they'll ever do another run of the fullset in the future...

 

Apart from those that l’ll never have because not attracted to size or aesthetics there’s Dollshe Rosa, the little girl. Only seen her on sites one shouldn’t buy dolls from. And sad about the Ikarus flight of the company.

 

Soom R. Dokkebi Garion (Baby Pink, LE). He was part of the SHDSP2024 After Event. I don't know how else to search for him, not too well-versed with xianyu or taobao to look for him, so for now, looking at photos of him is enough.....

 

Dollshe Adonis… loved that sculpt the moment I saw it six years ago but was luckily warned out of ordering him at the time due to Dollshe wait times already being bad then and thinking about it I would probably still be waiting for him to this day

 

Same, I love the Adonis sculpt too. Maybe one day will see a head being sold at a reasonable price

For me I have realised getting a SD size merman or dragon, such as the Akheilos or the DZ dragon which is taller than me is a no go.

I now know that it is too much resin for me to handle also couldn't take it out of the house for shoots or meets as they are just Too Big. I have a DV serpent coming sometime this year and hoping I will be OK with that one (a more hefty 1/4 size which is 134cm long).

Also a larger 1/3 bjd horse like Domiya's Nightmare. Always a grail but I just don't have the room to display and wouldn't be able to take it anywhere for amazing photos with respective bjds... imagine taking those on bus or train, would need to use my airport travel luggage just too cumbersome and so much kudos to those who manage that.

 

The Volks Rose of Versailles doll is so beautiful, she costs so much though (rightfully so, I think she’s 100% worth it), and I don’t think I’d be able to drop like €2300 on a doll.

Like many, I think I've accepted that Volks Mana Sama is out of my reach at 31 units in the world! But a beautiful doll to admire!

Piposland Charlotte Blossom In pink. I have liked pipos dolls for a long time, but wanted an MSD sized, not SD or Yosd sized cat. saw her too late.. I still looking at her photos. maybe one day .

The Junichi Nakahara Volks dolls for sure. I love them so much that I wouldn't even want to bother doing anything with them other than just displaying them as-is, which I can justify for something like a <$300 collectible fashion doll, but I actually want to do something with my BJDs, you know? I've had quite a few opportunities to buy the fullsets, but I've been good about asking myself if I would actually play with this doll or if I'm about to buy a giant, expensive figure.

 

Any Doll Soom, especially the limited editions (during the year of Soom Beryl). I was (and still am) so infatuated with them since the early years of my BJD hobby but their price range was too high

 

Crobi is an old company and I'm kind of scared that they will discontinue their bussiness soon 'cause it's been a very long time since their last release.... I'm really worried that I couldn't save up money on time to get my dream doll straight from the company.

Also, any dolls from the DoD company. The legend. I think I'll never encounter one, and even if I could, I'll never be able to afford even a head...

It’s the masc presenting dolls that never last around here. I really like them but no matter what I do they just don’t fit in. I’ll continue to admire them online or through other owners but they’re just not for me. My dolls are all femme preventing.

 

Actually also super beautiful but wayyy too expensive and rare to even dream about: Dollzone's Beatrice and Darlene. The 130cm version, both limited to 6 each as far as I knowThey are so cute and enchanted! I bet it would almost be like living with a "living" doll (or being one yourself?) since they are so gigantic. Maybe a tad bit creepy, but I can't help but love them

 

Not a holy grail doll or anything but, Crobi Lance.

The website refuses to work for me. I've tried several times. It tells me I can't make an account with that email, because I have one. Only I've never been able to make the account. When I go to log in with the email it tells me, I don't have an account with that email, please make an account. It just loops.

I always wanted him because of that game "Nameless ~ The One Thing You Must Recall ~" Crobi Lance was my favourite character in that game. I thought it would be nice to have him. The second hand market is either too pricy or too iffy. I would want him directly from the company, but I can't order from it.

 

The Volks SD16 Diamond…seriously the most beautiful face sculpt I’ve ever seen on a doll, but I just can’t imagine her ever being in my budget. Also, I feel like an SD would be too big for me

 

Since I joined the hobby I've wished several times for a smiling doll. I've seen many pass me by, but I never felt like getting any. Always went for the gloomy ones instead. So I've made peace with it. All my crew's cheer now depends on a wee 1/4 clown...

 

Probably a Dust of Dolls doll. I love those soft pear shaped bodies so much, but I can't justify budgeting for it, especially since for my own preferences I would probably want to swap for a more mature looking head.
