Dolls you'll never have....

Feb 1, 2019

    1. With the countdown to Doll Chateau's discontinuation deadline and the beautiful tan event they're running at the same time I've come to realize I just can't own all the dolls I'm after (R.I.P tan Elizabeth)
Are there any dolls for you that you just don't ever see yourself owning, no matter how badly you want them?

      • x 6
    2. Haha totally! There are a lot of dolls I adore but know I will never own due to the dolls being too big, too expensive or being sold out/ discontinued. I've even had a doll that I badly wanted end up being sold out literally the day I put the order in for it (yes,I had all of the sad :() I also come across head sculpts that would be perfect for a character I want to shell, only to find the company doesn't sell the head separately (either I don't like the body or want to use an existing body I have) so had to let them go as well.
It seems just part of the hobby that you can't have all the dolls you really want and you have to admire them from afar. At the end of the day I try to be happy with the ones I do have and look forward to seeing new dolls coming out ;)

      • x 3
    3. Company's that dont separate heads are the bane of my existence. Idk how me saving you resin, time, and a mold isn't a good deal!

      • x 8
    4. Volks Genji. Forever lusted after, will never ever be able to afford, even if one turned up for sale and wasn't jumped on immediately by 70 other people!

      • x 4
    5. I've been lucky to find all the FL girls I've wanted (all within a month too!) But my grail is Momo. She's proving hard to find. I'm hoping I'll be able to find her when I have market but she may be one I'll never have sadly.

      • x 2
    6. Hahaha Nabarro's boy Wally. Only ten in the world, and when one of them is for sale (nearly never), the head is at $1500...

      • x 2
    7. All of the beautiful 60cm+ bjds. Out of my price range, and size. Many beautiful sculpts I’ll just have to enjoy here on DOA. Also any of the SIO2 Yo-SDs. Just too expensive and rare.

    8. I had to go look up the sculpt, but I can see why he would be so sought after, very lovely!

      My wallet hurts

    9. Most of the dolls I know I'll never get are too expensive. I'm just not old enough to have a job and pay for them. I love other dolls, but I feel like the dolls I never have are like a sad reminder that I cannot have them. It might be for the best.

    10. I don't have income right now, so I have to pretty much give up on anything I could want until things are settled again :sweat
It is hard to give up on things you really like. I am not as blessed as my SO, whose favorite doll companies are all lower end in price and barely (if ever) discontinue things.
I'll just keep it an abridged list and say that pricing keeps me away from a lot of my loves even if they show up secondhand like 1/4 mewiefish bactro and doll zone sawarieda. I have seen both show up for around $1000, ouch... I'm just not at a point in life where I can justify that much money on a hunk of resin! As beautiful as they are.

    11. Any Dollmore Trinity! I have this dream of setting up a marble, ice cream parlor style table in a corner of my living room, surrounded by tall stools that are permanently occupied by these gargantuan girls in ever-changing elaborate costumes - kind of a giant resin diorama incorporated into my living space. However...I am not the only one who occupies said living space, and I don't think the concept will fly. :sweat So, I will probably just keep admiring Trinities from afar.

    12. Dika Doll Mudan Fullset. I saw it waaaay too late to do anything about it.

      • x 1

    13. I've been through that. It's tough not having any money in a lot more ways than one, it can really be demoralizing.

    14. Any doll by Natalia Loseva. :pout: I've followed her work for years - but now that she's moved to an auction model & bidding starts in $4k + range... I'm definitely out. Her dolls are exquisite one off full sets, so in my opinion - worth it. It's just that the likelihood and timing of all things considered...there's a low probability that I'll ever be able to collect her work.

    15. Soom's Cptain Hook, the Ticking Crocodile. There's something about that face I'm drawn to. But he was a limited, is huge compared to my other dolls, and was way out of my price range new. A lot of Soom dolls are like that. I'll just have to admire the promotional pictures from afar.mi
I dream of having a Mewiefish mini Bactro in blue, but I don't think I can justify paying an artist doll price for a doll that would not quit fit with my group. I have so many other dolls on my wishlist that are higher priority too. Maybe someday...

    16. Follow-the-Wind I feel your pain. My grail doll is a Nabarro's Har. I almost got one a couple of years ago but it was an auction and I couldn't bid more then $650. I don't wanna know how much this head is selling for now.

    17. When I've visited a Volks Store or Dolpa, there were one-offs I enjoyed looking at, but were unlikely to win.

      • x 1
    18. I have a list. :XD:

      - Iplehouse Kamau- He has been one of my favorite sculpts for probably close to a decade, but I just don't enjoy owning dolls that big.

      - BlueBlood Doll Phoenix- Only two of these were ever confirmed to have been sold. Phoenix was a prototype for Draven in a way, as in Draven actually came about from modifying Phoenix, but it's just not the same. Of the ones who were sold, I've tried to track them down. One has been modified, I couldn't find the other.

      - Doll Chateau Stacy, Snow Nymph, Dolores, Sexta- Love them all, but have no characters for them and they're being discontinued before I can afford to buy one.

      - Dollshe Amanda Beauty- Love her face and have a character in mind for her, but I don't like dolls that big and there is absolutely no way I'm going to wait a year or more for a doll.

-Soom Chalco, Puss in Boots, and Deneb- Again, too big for my taste, but so pretty.

-Simply Divine Harlequin- It's a HUGE head and looks bobbled on every body I'd want to put it on.

-Several artist dolls, but their super slim exaggerated proportions would look out of place in my crew.

There are probably more I'm not thinking about at the moment.

    19. Lati's Oracle M is probably in that boat, for me. I've never seen one for sale on the secondary market... Even the regular human version of M is rarer than proverbial hen's teeth, and there are far more of them out there in the wild than the elf-eared limiteds.

Soul Doll's Celestyn is starting to look impossible as well. I've seen two of them come up for sale in the last decade, and wasn't fast enough to snag either one. They were rare birds even before they were discontinued, though, so the supply is small and at this point, any that exist may well have settled in their "forever homes".

    20. I love Fairyland Cygne but I just don't think I'll ever have an SD. They're so big! I also probably won't ever get my normal skin Minifee Liria since the price keeps skyrocketing... I definitely regret not ordering her when I could!

      @Maipoxx Momo isn't a limited sculpt! She's available in a-la-carte. :)

    21. I love Fairyland's Liria, but she's rare and so expensive second hand. Even if I were to find her for sale, I just don't think I could afford her.

    22. I really want a Dollzone event Wendy. I’m not that big into tinies but she is just so cute and I’ve wanted her ever since I got into the hobby. Unfortunately no one has her for sale :(
Oh also a Minifee Elf Sircca or Siean in white skin. Once again they’re event products and the sad part is not many people get the event heads in BW skin

Sameeeee. I remember wanting a Liria and thinking that she was just like any other head. Nope. The other day I saw her head going for $800

    23. I say don’t give up! I had some grails on my wishlist that have been discounted for 5 years! I thought I’d never find them. But I remained very persistent and found them! Never give up, if you really want something, you WILL find it. :dance

    24. I would love a Mecha Angel - especially Sabik with elf ears. But I just don't have the money even though they do show up on the MP from time to time.
It's not just the doll, but shipping such a massive weight is going to cost an arm and a leg, too. And customs charge their percentage over 'stated value plus shipping'. So even at a bargain I'd end up spending and additional few hundred dollars in shipping and customs fees.

On the opposite end of the spectrum: Dreamhigh Studio Kinoko - with the mushroom head. There were only a limited number made, and I don't think anyone would want to sell theirs if they have one...

    25. *L* I know it makes me sad! Though given that discussions & polls here have shown that most people prefer to buy full dolls so they don't have to worry about resin matching etc then I guess that some doll companies don't want to fiddle about with small orders if there isn't a lot of demand for it.

      • x 1
    26. I think I'm one of those people that tries to settle for companies I can easily access and find their work whether directly ordering or second hand. There are a lot of artists dolls I'd *prefer* to have over a common company (DragonShell Dolls...anything from DSDoll. Summerbird Viola!) but I've trained my eye to look for dupes of sculpts, bodies and faces with the same desirable qualities. It's only dolls that I know are out there (DC Elizabeth :/, Miracle doll Snake demon) that by the time I save for them they'll be gone, then I feel sad. That snake demon gives me so many ideas, but I don't have the room in my life to work on such a big mod project.

    27. Well, I wanted one of those DS doll Pitbull heads and emailed to see when the preorder would be... and my laptop died.

So because of my degree, I paid £550 for a laptop instead. And the preorder came out today. And I am very put out.:pout: With upcoming expenses (car & home) I don’t think I’ll be buying any dolls for a long while, and my money just went on the laptop.

    28. Dolls I missed and will never get the chance to own are Dollshe Salubia and Notdoll Just Venus (aka The Bomb - she's OT due to the lack of ankle joints and missing arms).

      • x 2
    29. Luts Delf Art Smoky Quartz Siwoo (Shiwoo). Only 5 in the world. I was on the site the night he released, but I was in high school and did not have the money to even try for one of them. I've only seen one go up for sale on the DoA MP, but that was years ago. I doubt I'll ever find one, and the 5 owners seemed to have dropped out of DoA/the BJD community, so it's not like you can even find pics any more.:(

    30. Exclusives like that always break my heart, some people have all the luck!

      • x 1
    31. @Mittzle It really is a game of luck in this hobby, sometimes.:sweat Like, right place right time sort of luck. I'll keep looking for one just cause it's a bit fun to have a grail doll. Doubt I'll find him, but you really never know. There are certain things I never thought I'd own that I had WTBs for and people came out of the blue and offered to sell them to me. So you can't lose all hope hahaa. XD
Also I love the cat in your avatar! So cute!

    32. Ahhhh Salubia is on my "never in a million years but would be flipping amazing" wishlist too!

For my "will never have" I'm going to go with...Supia 60. She was Supia's first doll and was really unlike anything I'd ever seen in terms of mature-looking dolls at her time of release (2006, I believe). She was limited to only 20 dolls and I was really upset that I missed out on purchasing her.

However, the only time I saw her come up for sale secondhand, I had to admit to myself that I wasn't willing to sell any of my current dolls to fund her. In that very bittersweet moment, I realized I'd never own her. For years, she'd been the one that got away...but once I was faced with choosing between her (my supposed grail) and the dolls I already had and loved, I had to let her go.

Now I'm not sad about it and have zero regrets; she's lovely but Supia has since come out with even more amazing dolls! Also, I don't think I'd forgive myself if I'd sold one of my very earliest dolls for her. The experience overall made me appreciate what I already had and was a good lesson for me. I still do wonder what happened to those 20 dolls though as I never see them anymore!

    33. Leekeworld Ent King. i can't remember his exact sculpt name anymore because leeke's redone their site like a half-dozen times or more since his limited release and they finally erased any evidence he existed at all.

i've also never been able to find owner pics of him either. which seems absurd because i remember his fullset sold out before his order deadline was up, so where'd all these potato boys go?

i've had a lot of "grails" come and go but this guy's always been on my mind of how unobtainable he is solely because of his obscurity :'(

    34. @Zest His sculpt name is Croom :)

    36. Notdoll Lucy. She was the first BJD I ever saw. I was just a freshman, happy in my world of American Girl-knockoffs and Barbie, when I saw a picture of her on the internet and that was it- BJD obsession. Sadly, by the time I got to college and could save up any money for my own interests, Notdoll was closed. I still think she's one of the cutest dolls in existence.

      • x 1
    37. @Arekushia omg, thank you! :) and an owner pic! it's been so long the only thing my brain chose to remember instead of his sculpt name were the DOA comments about how he looked like a baked potato. (but i love him for that LOL)

      • x 1
    38. Hahahaha, oh that's gotta be Soom Beryl for me--especially the fullset version. Sigh. I still dream about her.

    39. One-offs and full sets aside, I don't feel any doll is particularly out of reach with enough patience. Save up some money and post a WTB thread over in the marketplace; you might just be surprised. I know I have in the past.

Me with my desire for multiple Iplehouse Stella heads so I can swap looks with ease on the same body. :sigh

    40. I recently realized I was never gonna get that iplehouse HID lahela in brown skin, because she costs over $800 and that’s a solid No for me for a blank, nude doll without extra resin parts.
I only realized recently because up to that point I’d never bothered making her in the doll choice section xP

    41. Yeah, I am slowly coming to terms with never owning a Dollzone Anson, and I have long since accepted that I will never own a Volks William.

    42. It gets easier once we accept our fate XD

That way if it ever changes it's a wonderful suprise!

    43. I'm sad that Doll Chateau is discontinuing so many sculpts, but I'm glad they haven't decided to axe Hyman. Yet.

      Soom Euclase and Chalco. They came in 2008-2009, when I didn't even know BJD's existed. I can only look at them on their soom pages now. ;m;

    44. When I saw the titled to this thread, I just compulsively whispered "Wally...."

If I find that boy...... I will buy that boy. He's my ult sculpt. But finding someone willing to part with him? Lol.....

      • x 1
    45. Oh, I have a couple. In some cases, it could be related to them being limited or discontinued, but the main reason really has more to do with not fitting any of my OCs than anything else.

First off...Ringdoll's The Judge of Hell, elf eared head. I absolutely adore this boy's face. But...he's sold out, and I couldn't justify getting the fullset just for one head. Also, as much as I love him, I don't have any OCs I could set him up with:(. Also, it's a similar situation for Souldoll Federer (elf version). He's now discontinued (I actually debated getting him during that sale, but chose not to), and he's another case of lovely sculpt, but no character to match him up with. Which...really is a shame, because he was quite handsome. Ah, well.

I also just crossed paths with a Soom Sabik on the MP, and was really drawn to him. He was pretty up there in contention for a possible reshell for one of my boys...until I realized he's 75-80cm with a 23cm circumference head. That's...not going to work out as planned. The boy would end up severely bobble-headed, and I wouldn't swap out his current shell's body. I can still admire him from afar though....

    46. I also want a Kinoko! That lil mushroom head boy stole my heart.... a few years too late :'(

      • x 1
    47. For a broke guy, i've got pretty expensive taste lmao
      Ada Dan Harlan- I love his amazing, creepy face! Those teeth!! I almost never see owner pics though ;-;
SpiritDoll Vine- I love that big boy!!! I'm just not sure I could ever justify both the size and the price tag, sighhh
Dollzone Carter in Sd- This doll doesn't even exist, and i'm not sure it ever will! I have the yosd and am saving up for the msd, if I could complete the set I'd die!
Dollzone The Lovers- This one is much more recent, but the lack of legs seems more like a statue than a doll, I'm not sure I could live with that :(
Doll Chateau A body 01- Discontinued since 2015, hella expensive, the ULTIMATE grail!!
Angelphilia Shizuku- my inner weeb cries when I see that squishy body and those cuteee tongues, but I don't think my roomates would approve lmao
Dust of Dolls Coti- A pear shaped beauty who kills my heart and would empty my wallet

That's about it, thank you for letting me vent out my suffering

    48. I never say never. Things change.

    49. What? I have no clue that Momo is hard to find? Do you mean the fullset with all that bunny extras, or just the doll? I own a tan Momo and now I felt that he just became a little more special in my heart. XD

    50. I feel the same way about Kinoko. There are a number of others I’d love to have, but trying to get my SO to understand why I want to spend so much money for them and a lack of space for the bigger ones are problems... Sigh. I really, really want a Dollzone Trieda too, but I just don’t see it happening unless I find a really cheap, second hand one that needs work.

    51. I mean full set Momo + ears. I wouldn't need the bunny legs or tail, which I've actually seen a few times for sale funny enough xD

    52. Granado V-07 head... because he is super rare and I have never seen one for sale :atremblin
      Or Granado Mads head...
I can only hope for one of them to ever get re-released in the future... but I have a bad feeling that this will never happen... My search will go on...

    53. I just saw one on sale but it was in Taobao secondhand market which youd probably need an agent for.

    54. Omg! Unfortunately I have no clue how to use Taobao... T_T

    55. I'd say dolls I'll probably never have, but I will not stop looking ^^
Dollmore Haneol WS and Souldoll Lee Jun Ki. Both very rare. Haneol in WS was limited and unpopular. Lee Jun Ki was released only as a limited edition. Owned them previously, but was forced to sell. Just want them back :aninja:

    56. I.o.s grell, ughh! I nearly managed to snag one once, but was beaten to it! *Shakes fist* one day! If I manage to have the funds again, I'll definitely buy it :)

    57. The doll I want most in life is an Angel Battle skeleton BJD. They don't make dolls anymore, sadly, and it's nearly impossible to find this doll D:
That and Pukifee Nanuri. It's so hard to find that cute litte faceplate that I want so badly.

    58. I will never have an Amadiz doll. I like to have one, but with all the option parts+ shipping is 1100$ and the costums (It's a bit more then 300$) makes it totally impossible.:pout: And they stopped making pre-order dolls ...

    59. Fifth Motif Venitu. He was, admittedly, my second choice for Ethan [avatar doll], and a bit of a grail doll for a while. I say "for a while" because I've signed myself to the fate of never likely having one unless I strike it rich somehow and find a decent one on the secondhand market.

      • x 1
    60. Akhmel Xiro is a doll I'm pretty sure I'll never get... :(
