Dolls Party 22 Discussion!

I'm actually hoping for a new SD13 girl now. I hope we find out soon I'm getting anxious too hahaha! I wonder if they'll give any hints at the volks autumn event rush. I'm not going but maybe someone who is going may tell us!~

 

I know how you feel... Remi and Tsukasa are eating up all my dolly funds for the time being I really should have waited til this next event was over with *sigh*

The events always keep coming ^_^ That is a good thing I think I am just excited for another event...I keep thinking of all the lovely girls they could release from YoSD to Sd16, I just love them all! I also kinda hope there is something that just doesn't float my boat, that way I will be safe and can hold on to my dollie funds until the new year (lol like that will happen).

I keep looking at the colors and design too wonder what it could mean...maybe a Maiden's Promise story continuation? Or maybe my favorite, Harajuku Memories...but I can see a color similarity for the Banquet series, the lamp post makes me think Maiden's Promise, Harajuku or maybe even the fantasy series...Dream Nights EDIT: Wait they are doing the Dream Nights for the other event with the 2 yos, so I doubt it will be with this event...

 

I second harajuku memories!! I really want a kurumi but they recently came out with mikuru and karumi right? saddd T_T !~

 

I don't know if the event's color theme or motif really have to do anything with the dolls going to be released. I remember for HTD Nagoya 4 that it was of a traditional Japanese dolphin (cant remember the name), and we ended up seeing Michele, Mihimi, and Regenmaru and Suzuna when we all thought for sure we were going to get someone from Echoes of a Beautiful Banquet because of that traditional dolphin we saw.

 

Well, that was because the kinsachi are the "symbol" of Nagoya & are feaured prominently on Nagoya Castle. However, the Beautiful Banquet releases are usually done during Hometown Dolpas & not the big Tokyo Dolpas, from what I can tell...

 

Do you guys have any idea when the Dolpa 22 dolls will be announced?

 

I would guess the end of this week or next week, we usually find out around 3-4 weeks in advance ^_^

 

So what are the guesses on what will be available? I hope it's a new doll.

 

There are always new dolls. Or did you mean a new basic model? That would be more rare. But Volks recently introduced Kanata and Rinon, so I would think that's less likely.

When have new basic models been introduced in the past?

 

I think she meant new dolls as opposed to re-releases of older limited sculpts

I am hoping for a new sculpt as well. As far as I know nobody has a clue. There has been speculation of a SD17 Tsukasa (unlikely), a SD10 Luna (maybe) or a The Maidens' Promises new doll. I doubt a Tsukasa will be re-released since they just released 2 dolls from that story.

 

Actually, I was thinking of a re-release of someone they haven't done in a long time. There are characters from some of their story lines that have never been re-released. So time will tell, as we impatiently wait for the news !!!!!!!!

Soooo, I was just browsing a Japanese image board, and am not really sure what the source is or if it's legit, but it shows a picture of SD16 Pearl as a Dolpa 22 doll.

 

I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, Volks already released Irvin in the US first and then in Japan later.

 

That could be a maybe because they did release Irvin in Japan after he was released in US. Pearl was pretty popular when she was released here.....

 

Interesting point Anavel. I wonder if Volks is testing the waters by releasing in the US first before a Japanese and International release.

 

Well, they've re-released all of the US limiteds in Japan so far, so I'm not really surprised if they're going to be doing the same with Pearl, but generally the first "leaked" photos for a dolpa are the cell phone VIP photos, so I'm trying to figure out where this image came from since it's not on the dolpa 22 site anywhere, at least as far as I can tell.

 

They didn't release Ruby in Japan, did they? I don't remember her ever being released outside the US.

 

I thought there was a small release of the Jewels there, but I could be mistaken. I can't say I really follow the SD16 girls much.

[Edit] I just looked it up, and I had forgotten that there *was* a second release of both Ruby & Garnet, but that it was a second US release in last year's web dolpa. My mistake! But besides those two, the other US limiteds (Olivia, Masha, Irvin) have seen Japanese releases as well.

 

But on the top of that picture said 本当？ like Really? even though description in japanese seems correct though.

Ruby and Garnet seemed to have been dolls that were specifically designed for a new market (US) of more fashion-like dolls in the 1/3 size. Their headmolds, IMO, are of a different aesthetic than most Volks dolls. So I am uncertain to whether there is even a Japanese market for such fashion-like dolls. They did not do so well in the US either, as I once bought one that had remained in the store for a while. That would be my guess as to why they haven't been released in Japan yet.

Until we get the cell phone picture we won't know for sure. But it just feels right to me that Pearl will be released in Japan. If it is a prank, it got me for sure. ~Gus

 

On the one hand, they've given a lot of recent Japanese releases a "Pearl" look, so I can understand it if they're angling to release her here. However, that image really looks pranked to me. Even if Volks IS going to release Pearl, I seriously doubt they're the source of that image.

 

I just checked the cellphone site and there's nothing up at all. And there's nothing on that pic of Pearl besides basic information on the doll, no release date or anything.

Of course anything's possible, but I agree with others that this feels pranky. I'd be fine with Pearl because she's not a threat to my funds! *heh*

Now an SD16 girl in sunlight, I'd have to go for. But I doubt that'll happen.

I can see Pearl repackaged having more of an appeal to the Japanese than Ruby or Garnet, especially considering Ruby and Garnet weren't exactly successful with the Western audience they were designed for.

I know everyone always hopes for the bigger sizes in sunlight to be released as a limited, but aside from two Dollfie Dreams and the cruise special Scarface Cecile which was extremely limited, has Volks ever actually had a more widely available limited release in sunlight?

 

So True. Poor Garnet, the red headed step child of the SD16s. I love her unique sculpt. Heck I bought a Garnet and a Ruby but I think people warmed to Ruby after they saw her with a different face-up.

 

I've never heard of it happening, and don't hold out much hope. I get this feeling that sunlight skin isn't actually that popular amongst Japanese fans, although I could be wrong about that. But some of us need more mature bodies in sunlight, Volks . . . :p.

 

It could be a picture of the charity model maybe? Although, I LOVE Pearl and would be all for another release of her!! EDIT: now that I look at the pic, it doesn't really look like charity model or anything...I love a re-release of her (and an international release for everyone else) since I did miss out on her the first time.

Well, "Dolls Party 22" was added, too, instead of the "Dolls Party in VOLKS USA Website 2008" text, but yeah. Not much changed. It might not even be Photoshopped necessarily -- one could easily download the page, change the text in the HTML, and take a screenshot of that to give it more "credibility".

All in all, probably not real.

 

Everything everyone is saying about Ruby and Garnet is so true... I'm not a fan either. I'm not even a fan of Pearl. I kind of see those releases as pandering to the US audience without actually knowing what the US audience likes...

But I'll forgive them. A Pearl release would keep my suffering wallet safe.

 

Well if they release Pearl, I'll be safe as well. That means I can save up even more for who I really want later if they ever re-release him that is! I have a side fund just for my dream doll already but if I save even more, so much the better for my savings.

I'll second this! Though I like Ruby she isn't high on my dolls to get list. I can't imagine them releasing Garnet and Ruby in Japan although Pearl does seem more likely as she has a more Volks aesthetic. She may do well in a release there. And I will be 100% safe is they do release her since I have one! It would be great to see another Dolpa go by with nothing I want to buy!! I need the break

 

Oh I know what you mean, I do think Ruby, Garnet and Pearl are indeed all so gorgeous, it's just that I don't like that size for my girls and that's all. For the people who do like the 16's, more power to them!

 

Oh dear. Just like those "hopeful" Ruby-and-Garnet re-releases, it does look like they're trying to clean out the warehouse & get rid of all those unsold Pearls. I do wonder what they were thinking.

What I'd really like to see is another SD16 Boy. It's such a marvelous body. They keep saying that they're not retiring the SD16 body, but they also keep not releasing any more, so who knows what to think? By now, poor voluptuous Yukinojo gets so self-conscious being the only one of his kind.

Re SD17 Tsukasa, of course they say 'No' now, but I bet they keep us dangling for, ohh, say, another 12-18 months... and then release him. ^^ I just bet. I can't see them permanently ignoring the opportunity to make an easy $1400 per doll on a sculpt that's always been in screamin'-high demand. And if that day comes, I don't know what I'll do; I already have one Tsukasa who's quite enough of a handful as it is, but I am totally powerless against all Tokyo Boys. Those boys, they have some kinda magic.

So! Being that this Christmas will be a lean one for me, I hope that they DO just rerelease Pearl. ^^

 

Yes!!! I'm all for another SD16 boy body - he still has the best tush of all the Volks boys in my opine! And those arms!!!
How about an SD16 with a pretty boyish face, like those beautiful Iplehouse circus guys that look like Tonner girls to me? xD

Back on topic: I am doomed if they release a sunlight SD16/17 girl or boy. I almost hope they do rerelease Pearl. Almost. At least that way I would be safe.

In Re the Jewels: I actually really like the Jewels and I appreciate what Volks was trying to do with them (I own Ruby and Garnet) but I think they did go a bit too far down Fashion-Doll-Road with the face ups and outfits, especially with Ruby and Garnet. With new face-ups and outfits they are some of the most striking BJDs I have ever seen!

 

I love the SD 16 girls, I own a Garnet and Olivia there my fave dolls in my collection
I don't mind them bringing out more SD 16 girls in the future. I'm hopeing for a SD17 Tsukasa in the future.

 

It seems to me the SD16 girls where created to fit in with the FDQ Fashion Doll Quarterly who hosted/cohosted? the Dolpa in Manhatten. I was there to see the first one Olivia who seemed to be the focus of that dolpa. Not to my taste though she certainly grabs attention.

I really think they wanted to bring in the fashion doll lovers to the volks scene and to please FDQ though I have no understanding why they really cared for it being how they are different worlds.

 

Seconded. I don't like how FDQ tries to throw in BJDs into their lineup, it feels like an afterthought.
Hautedoll is slightly better but not by THAT much.
I just think FDQ was looking to bridge the two worlds but it's not just a question of aesthetic... I think BJD owners think of their dolls differently. I don't think fashion doll collectors really characterize or personify their collection the way BJD collectors do and that's the real focal point of BJD collecting. Still, I'm glad for the slightly different aesthetic here because it will allow some people to bring about totally different characters.

 

I have collected many types of dolls and there are a lot of members here who collect fashion dolls and most of us do personify all our dollies ^_^ Actually, every person I have met who collects fashion dolls personifies, characterizes, and customizes their fashion dollies just as much if not more than I do my own BJD lol.
I do agree that FDQ doesn't do as good of a job at bridging the 2 worlds as they could though.

Either way, I love the SD16 girls and I think that Pearl is going down the right path of aesthetics...she is more like the traditional Volks girls imo and I that!! I love Volks because they are different, not like the other fashion doll companies aesthetics.

 

Haha, most of the people I met who do the fashion doll thing don't seem to have elaborate backstories for them, but then again most of them also subscribe to NFRB as well, so we're talking about two totally different demographics here.

Also since the above mentioned collectors do not also do BJDs or customizing which lends itself to character creation.

Well, I must say I feel like a total stalker with the amount of times I have been checking this thread daily...I might need to sign up for VA (Volks Anonymous).

The more I think about it, the more I actually wouldn't mind an SD 16 or 17 boy, it's just my girls that I want in the shorter division...I like them as tall as the 13's. I'll chime in with needing to be signed up for Volks anonymous as well!!

Like Nabee Rain and MANY others here, I have collected fashion dolls before bjds, and I think the SD16 girls are great! FDQ's Volks Olivia is one of my true muses, and shes absolutely versatile in my hands, and yes my Drindlynn has always had a backstory and character makeup(see owners gallery). Shes mostly a ravishing tomboy but every once in awhle she gets glammed up, the last time for Halloween as Sarah Palin! In fact, at a big doll meeting where there were only 2 bjd collectors among dozens of others, she came in 2nd in the dressed doll only competition (as Palin) - quite a feat in a "fashion doll" crowd...

I think it is a bit unfair to blame FDQ for Garnet, Ruby or Pearl. All 3 of them were released at LA Dolpas which FDQ had absolutely no input on whatsoever. Volks also makes 1/6 size dolls and to *ME* Garnet and Ruby look an awful lot like what I believe was called the 20th Century Model line of dolls that Volks released about 7 or 8 years ago.

FDQ did influence Volks to create Olivia, but then also worked with Volks to bring out a new Masha, Irvin, and a new Shizu.

Personally, I don't think they're going to re-release Luna. Her release wasn't so long ago. ^^; Also I'm pretty sure that nearly all the Harajuku line dolls were released at Kansai area Dolpas in March.

Speaking of SD-16s... I would not be surprised to see a SD-16 Jun to go along with her best friend Ami. It would make sense.

Are there any Rozen Maiden characters left to be released? Those are often released for December Dolpas.

 

I'm with JennyNemesis on the SD16 boy! I've always loved Yukinojo and would love to see more sculpts to go with that body.
