Dollmore Lusion Discussion - Part V!

Aug 13, 2014

    1. Maybe Dollmore has gotten a little more malleable lately. Not really sure.

I saw that someone in the Dollmore Trinity thread remarked Dollmore changed their mind on offering the full sets without faceups.

    2. Hmmm.... What would be really nice would be if they'd let me buy a Lusion boy body to transfer my Daish head onto ('d mod off the "boy bits" so I could ahve her on a properly child-dhaped body.

Mind you, I dread to think of th price they'd ask for a Lusion body. It might be cheaper to order a whole boy, swap the heads over, and sell on the boy head on the girl body.

      Teddy

    3. Yeah I would assume the body would cost a lot! Just the giant volume of resin alone...

    4. I was kvetching a little about the cost of the stand but okay yeah it's pretty hefty.

=_= they sent me the open eyed head instead of the thoughtful head :doh

    5. Hopefully, they'll be putting that right.

      Teddy

    6. So we sort of had some sort of miscommunication because I am pretty sure I said I wanted the thoughtful head on the QA board and also noted that on the order the thoughtful head when I wrote the layaway time on my order notes, but Dollmore said their custom order page said open eyed head. =_= I guess I should have questioned that.

But they said they will switch the heads if I pay return shipping.

edit: bleh, I am shipping the head back so I don't sour my feelings getting frustrated with modding because I sure do have a history with that.

    7. Now with sleepy eyed Dell in hand.

I like painting at this size. I went a little too heavy on the pastels tho doesn't look childish enough this dark.

    8. Hmmm... I stopped getting notifications on this thread so am late replying

So glad you got the head you wanted. It's so irritating they got the wrong one on your original order though.

      Teddy

    9. Does anyone have Dahlia and Lillia.... I originally wanted Elf Dahlia... but im kind of fearful of her long ears. i dont know how delicate her ears might be... but i also really really like Lillia. i hate being indecisive. :P

    10. Elf Dahlia was released a long time ago and has been sold out for a long time. There are three available now but I don't know if that is true or an error. Her ears are delicate. Mine was shipped with her head offthe body and protected by box!

    11. I didn’t think elf Dahlia had been sold out at all. Every time I see the page she’s always been up for sale. I thought maybe she wasn’t that popular that she hasn’t sold out after all this time.

I got my girl secondhand though. I just am very careful with her ears if I take her out, but nothing has happened so far.

I also have normal Dahlia. I’d love to get Lillia someday though!

    13. It's done. I've put Drawing Elenoir on layaway. May any God up for the job, have mercy on my soul <3

    14. Does anyone know where I could find some pics of the boy body? I can't seem to see any on the website :nowords:

    15. I have a boy. Are you looking for a certain pose? Or just general nude body photos?

    16. The Lusion boy body is really attractive! He looks much better proportioned in the waist than the girl body. They both wear the same size shoes - that's a mercy!

      • x 2
    17. @zekarmisama I've just seen the website pics, but owner pics would be much better! I always trust them more. I'm happy he doesn't have the odd waist piece the girl body has, so that having been answered: any pics that show how 'natural' his posing is (clothed or not, now that I don't have to worry about the waist peanut :sweat). Thank you :D

      @nancy_schroeder_ca thanks a lot!! :chibi

@Answer42 The sculpting is much more streamlined than the girl body, that's what I was fearing to be honest. Had seen the girl one naked compared to... can't remember what doll and was surprised by the waist joints! It's a small, but much appreciated mercy I agree :whee:

    18. @mxwutter

Not sure if you still need the pics. >_> Kind of got distracted but remembered again when I was taking pics of shoes I got off Aliexpress from CUZULLAA. A good order except they forgot one pair of shoes, but that was quickly refunded at least.

Folder of shoes and posing: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8TDZh3PZiBhP4Eq86

He has a torso joint, but is kind of resistant to slouching so he sits a little leaned back. He is capable of standing with a little sass with the doll stand. 300% recommend doll stand because this size is so dang heavy. I think he can look pretty natural, but he isn't winning any awards for capability of many poses.

13.5 and 14cm shoes fit nice for his size, but they are a little snug to get on. But the snug fit makes it look nice in my eye and my boy doesn't change outfits that often yet because I still haven't sewn him a second outfit. I still want to get him some cute rain boots.

    19. Hello everyone! Am becoming more interested in these dolls, was just wondering what kinds of clothes they can fit into and if they’re easy enough to come by? I’d want to make mine a decora/harajuku inspired doll which is pretty different to their current styling

    20. Except for shoes, there are few ready-made Lusion-size clothes out there. Dollmore is the best starting point but if that doesn't fit your vision, you'll have to improvise and shop around. I found a knit 0-3 months baby outfit that, with modifications, worked well. (My post with photos is somewhere around here.) You might find other baby outfits more in line with decora/harajuku.
"The Patchwork Pansy" has clothing patterns for 28" Himstedt dolls but that's 5 inches shorter than Lusion. The dresses will look okay with a high waistline but the tops and pants will look cropped on Lusion. The dress patterns should work for harajuku: just change the fabrics and trims and shorten the skirt.
I posted 9 free basic patterns for Lusion in the DoA Workshop, split between sewing and knitting, if that helps.
My pro tip: design and sketch an entire BJD outfit with the desired features and colors FIRST. Then start searching for pieces that fit your vision. If you don't, you could end up with too many individual pieces that don't form a cohesive outfit. Ask me how I know! :XD:
I hope you'll consider a Lusion. It's a big doll with a big stand, big clothing and accessories but, if you love Lusion, you'll find the room! Good Hunting!

    21. Haha thanks so much for the info <3

    22. Hey all, I'm interested in Lusion dolls- I've been looking at the Baker Street Dell- but I have some questions, if you don't mind :D

1.) Is it possible to ask for an additional head? I'd love a dreaming Dell head in addition to the OE head. I only see Dahlia head for sale separately, though.
2.) How difficult is it to swap heads and hands? If anyone has the jointed hands, do you like them?
3.) I found images of the boy body in the first Pino listing (I assume that's the current body for boys). Are there images of the current female body?
4.) How do you shop for Lusion? Do you have favorite places?
5.) Where do you store yours? What's it like having such a giant?

I'm sure most of these questions have been asked somewhere along the 5 Lusion threads, so if anyone knows a place with collected info, please let me know :D Thank you!

    23. There should be - it's not a patch on the boy body for looking like a child's body - too skinny in the middle compard ot the size fo the hip too skinny in general, actually, but it; can be dressed to look child like, so it's OK. I wish I'd known they were brining out a boy beofre I bought mine, I'd have just modded off the boy bits to get a less "shapely" girl body...

Ahm, here's some pictures Dollmore.net :: Everything for Doll & more

I've got some stiff in the sales at the supermarket in the baby and toddler section and lads of shoes (second hand and new, a lot cheaper than Dollmore shoes) from charity shops, ebay and in the sales at childrens stores. Mostly, however, I make stuff because I don't dress her modern - though she does have quite a wardrobe of vintage and antique baby gowns.

She has her own stand as well as some child sized chairs (plus folding ones for travelling to meets) and sits or stands in the living room.

    24. I was able to get the sleeping head from dollmore after I bought my Dell so Dollmore is up for it.

Swapping the head is pretty easy the head stopper thingy is really easy to hold since it is so big compared to the average s hook.

I buy shoes from wherever kid shoes can be bought.

Mine towers over my other dolls on a display table.

    25. 10 inches of snow makes for some fun (and COLD) doll photos.

    26. @vampireketsuki Cute! But I think your doll would like a winter jacket and mittens!

    27. Brrrrrrr..... I only did the snow thing once, the year I got my Daish Couldn't say it encouraged me to take more snow pictures.:

    28. Gave my boy another face-up, making his eyelids less dark this time feels a lot better to me. I need to buy eyelashes. I feel like eyelashes feel too big on 8-9" doll heads, but I feel like he really needs them.

    30. He is lovely! Sometimes lower lashes work better for boys!

      • x 1
    31. He looks great! If you can find some shorter lashes maybe those would help? I would check with beauty supply places maybe. Blonde/red lashes are hard to find in human size I find, but I'm loving his overall look. That tiny bit of fringe on his upper lash line might be all you're looking for.

      • x 1
    32. @zekarmisama ADORABLE faceup and clothes! The freckles are masterfully done! I'd love to see lashes on this sweet boy!

    33. I’d love if people could share pictures of either female Lillia or dell ^+^ currently choosing between those girls, also would love blank dell picture if anyone has one !

    34. Teddy,

How did you finally get your doll? I may be in the same situation.

    35. I like the new face!

    36. I don't care for the open mouth either. But, that is why there are different versions of dolls.

    37. I had her delivered to my workplace and a colleague kept the box aside for me until I returned home and went back to work. I hope your situation works out better!!

Can I just point out that it helps enormously if you include the text of the message you are replying to (not the whole message, just highlight and hit reply on the line or paragraph you're responding to) on so that the rest of us can tell which message you're referring to.

Some threads are very long and have accumulated many pages over weeks, months, or years, so it can be hard to tell which part of it you're reading and replying to if you don't include them. For example - I had to think back over ten years to remember having posted about the problems with my Lusion order.

      Teddy

    38. I was kind of surprised to see Dollmore is selling the Lusion boy body by itself and some of the outfit sets too.

I am a little tempted by the my little lord dress set. The 10% coupon runs until the end of the month so maybe I shall mull about it and see how I feel later.

    39. I hadn't checked in a while but it's nice to see hey're finally offring heads only and the boy body on its own.

I'm tempted to buy the boy body to mod-off the girl bits and have a more child-proportioned girl body for Daisy Bacon, but the boy body alone costs more than Daisy Bacon did as a full doll back when I got her. I have no idea whether there'd be any takers for her body on the second-hand market without the head.

I guess I could put up a sale listing in the Marketplace and see if there's a taker. If I can get a chunk of the cost of the boy body from selling the girl body I think making up the rest of the amount might be doable. It's a good think hat Daisy Bacon's box is one of hre few doll boxes I kept (only because it's full of antique and vintage baby gowns for Daisy to wear).

      Teddy

    40. I was able to use the 10% event to get a Baker Street Dell! Dollmore is really generous, I also got an additional 3% off for being a gold member? I'm really excited! I am wondering what size children's clothes he will take! :D Can't wait!

    41. Congrtulations!

      Teddy

    42. Okay - has anyone else seen the trailer for M3gan? It's a horror movie, but so much camp. I was laughing hysterically.
I figured I wasn't interested in a big kid doll, but holy cow, I would love a M3GAN doll. And a Lusion M3GAN? *Chef's kiss*
I emailed Abby and basically begged them to consider a licensing deal.
Would anyone else be interested? Maybe send Abby an email... :wiggle

    43. Looks like the price on the Lusions has gone up since I last purchased.
I do love how they now offer just the heads for all their Lusion sculpts :love

    44. For jeans, real people jeans won't work, but I have found that Dollmore Trinity jeans fit nicely with the pant legs cuffed up.

    45. Congrats! He is one of my favorite boy Dells, I love the faceup and outfit!

    46. What does everyone think about the One Day Suddenly Daish and Dahlia in the Lusion size?

I really love how they did the Daish’s eyes, I just am not sure on the color they chose for her lips…

    47. They look like they've been seriously ill for a month or two with all that dark bruising around their eyes.

      Teddy

    48. Hahaha, yes I can see what you mean! It seems a lot of their latest Lusion releases have been a bit on the goth/dark side.

    49. I don't mind Goth, but I don't want my dolls too look like they're seriously ill.

      Teddy

    50. Understandable.

I am personally okay with the Daish eyes, its just the greenish cast to the lips that throws me off.

I think if her lips were a more natural shade she would not look as undead.

I believe these two were inspired by “The Shining” though so maybe they wanted them to be scary, sickly, undead looking.

I would love to see some more of their earlier releases style come back personally.

    51. They're often overly (to me) heavy-handed with the eye shading. I much prefer a more natural look like they gave Whispering Lillia But then I've always seen thse dolls as representing children, so don't like anything in the faceup that looks like makeup, including eyeshadow.

      Teddy

    52. Oh yes, I am in complete agreement with you on Whispering Lillia, she is beautiful.
I was actually considering her or a Daish as I do not have either of those sculpts yet.

    53. Mine is Daish but would have been Lillia if she'd been brought out at the time I bought my Daish

    54. I think the One Day Suddenly dolls were inspired by the ghost girls in The Shining.

    55. Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone gas an idea of how long rhe wait time is for a Dollmore doll at the moment? I want to get one of the sculpts but wasn't sure how long it took for them to be shipped? Thank you in advance for your help.

    56. Or... how long did you wait for your order when you ordered from Dollmore?

    57. When I ordered my girl, I think I waited 3 months. But that was... 2019? I think?

    58. Thank you. I appreciate your help.

    59. yeah, no problem. Check in with the Dollmore waiting room, that might give you a better idea of the general waiting time people are experiencing lately
