Dollmore Judith Girls discussion part 1

Dec 31, 2010

1. @Kielin, A Suntan Amaranth! Lucky you! She's sold out on Dollmore so you must have found her on the Marketplace. I can't believe you're up to 6 Judiths--I'm waiting for my first. I like all 3 of the names on your list. Any one of them would work for her. I haven't come up with a name for my Bitter Biscuit, but I figure I have a few weeks to think about it before she arrives.

@Affinite, Ah yes, I see the birdcage shape in the second photo. I'm surprised you have breeding mosquitoes if you don't have standing water. That's their favorite breeding habitat. :shudder All I have to worry about in my backyard is a garden snake and bees. Lots and lots of bees.

2. Yeah, she sold out so fast when she came out (trust me, I was stalking that site). I got her on eBay, she's new in all the packaging and they had the whole fullset and all the Dollmore paperwork, so I'm not super worried about a recast (like sometimes happens on eBay), and I asked them for extra pictures to examine her so hopefully there will be no issues.

I like this site: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/
I go on and just surf for a few hours every few months and write down every name I like. Then when I have a new doll coming or make a new character I have a list of names I already like.
Sometimes none of the names work, but I have like 30 dolls and that's only happened to me twice. (One I named after the middle name of my best friend, and the other I had all my nieces give name suggestions and I picked from their ideas)

3. Thanks for the link to the baby names website. I looked and a name I had been considering was right there complete with pronunciation and meaning. My usual go-to source is The Writer's Digest Character Naming Sourcebook by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It's an oldie from 1994, doesn't give pronunciation and often fails me. I'd love to use Asian names sometimes but they are nowhere to be found in the 1st edition. There is a 2nd edition from 2010 that does include Asian names--I should probably get it, if only to understand what a doll's sculpt name means.

4. You are quite welcome.
You can search anything on there, but you can also look by origin. It's kind of hard to find the link in the block of text so I snagged it for you.
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/origin/1
Then at the top you can switch between boy and girl names, then pick any of the origins you want.
I usually get a lot of mine out of the French or Greek sections, but it depends.

That's kind of neat though, I don't usually pay much attention to the sculpt names.
I'm usually like "Gimmie *grabby hands*". especially with the Judiths.

I was talking to a friend about my new purchase and I said, I put my forum tag as "DM Judith Addict" when I first got Aubreigh (and she was my first doll) and I haven't changed it since. And it keeps getting more true. D8

5. I like to use Irish and Gaelic names--the only trouble is I rarely know how to pronounce them.

I started paying more attention to sculpt names when I'd see the same names on different Korean websites. Like Soa and Soah. Same name, different spellings? Or entirely different names?

Can't wait to try out the origin link. It's nice to have that mode of access. The book I mentioned above is organized that way, with a general alphabetic index at the back.

6. Has anyone actually ordered Arasa Blue? I'd love to see some IRL pics. I am so tempted to buy her myself. Love her Russian aesthetic.

7. I am tempted by her myself and for the same reason. Still thinking about her. In the meantime, I have ordered Pirouette, the KID ballerina with the Zinna head and hands. Would love to see more photos of any of the Judith girl sculpts.

8. @vermont chick

Oooh! Pirouette is lovely! I just went to the Dollmore site to check her out. I didn't even know that Dollmore was using Judith heads in other doll lines (apart from the Tara mermaids).

9. I know, right? It pays to look at the other lines. I was interested in a ballerina, and there was Zinna! I love the faceup they gave her. She's the second Zinna in that line--the first one sold out. I wonder if they'll do a Tara?

10. Cute photos! Lucky doll. I've never been to Disneyland.

11. Wow these dolls are stunning! I love the Mature feeling they have about them. *thumbs up*
Will add them to potential want list
*stares at the never-ending scroll of paper* ><

12. It's been 10 days--let's wake up this thread!

Has anyone seen the new Suntan Zinna Maxima? Limited Edition of 10. (Why not 30 like the last Suntan?) The outfit does absolutely nothing for me, but the faceup is gorgeous. Something tells me, though, that I should wait for my first Judith Girl to arrive before I go ordering another. How quickly do the Suntan girls sell out, does anyone have an idea?

13. I was afraid of that. I was about to hit the buy button, then found out Iplehouse is having a Summer sale starting Monday. I'm screwed.

By the way, Dollmore listed a second version of the Suntan Maxima. This one is Silver, the first one was Black. The only difference I can see is the wig color and style.

I have absolutely no self-control. I ordered the Black version last night. My PayPal account now has $7.99 in it. No more dolls for a while.

14. I have fallen in love with the new Zinna Suntan Maxima Silver :love I got an email about her and couldn't click on the link soon enough! I'm such a sucker for dolls with teeth, and lately have been falling for the darker skins :D But I've never gotten a doll from this company. What does everyone say on the poseability of the bodies?

15. I'm still waiting for my first Zinna to arrive, but from what I can see of her promo photos she looks very poseable. None of my existing dolls can get into poses like she appears to do.

16. Woop, I've ordered the new suntan Zinna. I'm very excited to receive her full set! (Went with a different wig from them though, wasn't feeling the fullset ones.)

Dollmore has such cute accessories too. Couldn't help myself to get some cute jewelry, teddybears and undies :3

17. Goodness I can't stop staring at the new suntan girls! The photos make them look much darker than my own suntan Zinna. If she were really that dark I'd have to buy a second one lol. I asked Dollmore if their suntan skin has changed since they made the Amaranth version but they gave me the generic "resin color may change based on production dates" answer and so I still have no idea. Who's ordering her?

18. I agree the photos make her look darker than the earlier Suntan Amaranth. It looks like two of us have ordered Maxima so far: Marlou and myself. I ordered the Black version. I didn't add myself to the Waiting Room, however, as I already have 2 dolls on it and didn't want to look like I was ordering every doll in sight!

It's been a little over a month since I ordered my first Zinna. It feels like forever. I want my doll!

I have a question for those of you who already have Judith girls. Can you position the tooth piece as you want it or does it lock into one position? With my Narae I can show as much or as little of the teeth as I want. I wondered if Zinna was the same.

19. I went with the black version aswell. Turns out they don't swap wigs for the full sets, but they're gonna send me the one I wanted as extr gift anyway - dollmore's customer service has been amazing so far; they're very prompt and kind.

I was wondering that about the teeth part too!

20. I can't position mine, it does fit in there tight enough that it won't move. I always intended to mod or paint mine to show less teeth, but so far i haven't XD

21. VampireAngel13 I looked up your Zinna on your flickr and she looks amazing!

Mm, maybe you could paint the bottom teeth part in a dark color to achieve that effect?

22. I thought of asking for a wig swap, too. Then I figured I have so many wigs already (I'm a wig junkie) that she would have plenty to choose from when she gets here. But it's great that Dollmore will send you an extra wig, basically just for asking. I haven't run into any other companies that will do that.

That's disappointing about the teeth fitting tight, because I really like the look of parted lips with only part of the top teeth showing. I guess I'll try painting the bottom part. That way it's easier to go back to the original state if I change my mind. A mod is harder to reverse.

So I went back to the Waiting Room and added my Maxima to the list. Now if only one of them would come.

23. I tried valantly to read from the beginning of this thread to find an answer to my question, but got impatient - LOL! First, @vermont chick, my favorite source for Irish/Gaelic names (complete with pronunciations) is http://www.babynamesofireland.com/

Now for my question(s). I bought a Dollmore Fashion Model Doll and as soon as she arrived, I realized that while I like her body (not as voluptuous or as tall as the Judith), her head is really small. Not as pinheaded as the Chicline, mind you, but still small for both her body and in relation to my other dolls and their bodies. So what does this have to do with Judith Dolls? Well, I'm considering getting the Zinna head (the only one available currently for individual purchase) to use in place of the original Misia head. Fortunately, I think Zinna is beautiful!

Has anyone tried hybridizing these two, by chance?

Do you think the skin tone match is the same? The body looks to be a pink normal and while still not as pale as my DOD boy, she's pinkish, for sure.

The noted sizes of the dolls' necks are different. Interestingly enough, Dollmore indicates that the FMD's neck is 6.5cm and the Judith's is 6cm. Would modding the neck/neck opening work?

Oh, and since Judith Dolls are all LE .... what would be the "default" faceup if I chose it, I wonder?

Thanks for listening! I hope someone can help, otherwise I'll be looking for yet another doll for this very particular character.

24. Marlou thank you! I need to get more pictures of her! Which can be said for all my dolls really...
lol I did paint her teeth part at one point....but I was lazy and didn't' seal it before or after and it flaked off as soon as it dried! I'll try again if it ever stops raining and do it for reals because I agree, she has too much tooth. Which is funny because I don't feel that way about my DM Ujee, whose teeth part is the same size if not bigger.....giant teeth are part of his charm XD

Kirahfaye I have no idea how the fit/proportion would be (no fashion dolls here), but Dollmore's measurements are unreliable (Zaolls and Adams are wrong for sure). If you can measure the neck yourself just to be sure, it would be a good idea. I'd measure my Judith head for your but I'm at work (Boo work. Boooooo).

As for color, I saw a fashion doll a million years ago at a BJDC and I didn't notice any extreme color diff from any other Dollmore doll I have ever owned (in fact, just from looking at the joints and color I knew it was Dollmore - there was no sign posted with her) so I think you should be fine. I don't think they've had a big resin change since around 2009 and Judiths aren't that old. Plus, they all yellow the same, regardless of age, so eventually they'll match! XD Zaolls are the only difference - for some reason they get a pinker resin.

I have no idea about the faceup - I order blank whenever I can. Mine has a very nice (I actually love it) but pretty basic face....maybe it'll look like that? You could always ask! They're pretty good at answering the Q&As.

I don't even know what model she is as I got her from DM at Dollism, and they put fullsets on different dolls...whatever they had extras of I guess. Or cancelled orders. My friend got one too and we're pretty sure she's a different doll than the one in that fullset as well! I don't really mind. The fullsets are so gorgeous, but none of them are anything I'd use. I just wanted the doll! XD

That was a lot of words for very little help....

25. @ kirahfaye Thanks for the Irish name source! I've only spent a few minutes looking at it, but already I've found several names I want to use. The pronunciations are super helpful.

26. Thanks for the info, @VampireAngel13

I measured my Misia's neck and it is exactly 6.5cm. So if someone could measure their Judith doll neck, I'd really appreciate. Also, I sent Dollmore an email asking pretty much the same questions, but it probably won't be until tomorrow before they answer. The S-hook on the FMD is .... fancy. I don't know if Judith Dolls are similar.

@vermont chick, glad to help! Between that site, my trusted (and out of print) Irish Names for Children book and Behind the Name, I'm pretty set for Gaelic/Celtic names.

27. Well, I finally snapped and ordered the Russian-Princess-inspired Arasa Blue. I'll post pics when she arrives. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics here, but I believe I need a photobucket account? Is that right? I'm sure I'll sort it out before Judith gets here.

28. @kim_peanut, you can post from any site that can house photos (including your own website if you have one). I use Flickr.

And as an update, I got a reply from Dollmore and it appears that, at least to the employee who replied to me, the Judith Doll head will indeed be too big for my FMD body. Now I'm at an empass. :pout: Well, thank you all for indulging me and helping me with this issue.

29. Yay! Someone finally ordered Arasa Blue! I thought about ordering her myself when I was choosing my first Judith because I love the outfit. My Dollmore spree is over, however, until I earn more doll money. Congrats on your order kim_peanut. I can't wait to see pics. I use Photobucket for photos, but many people use Flickr.

@kirahfaye, I didn't know we could post photos from personal websites. Does that hold for blog sites, too? Mine includes Google storage. There are times Photobucket drives me to distraction. It causes something on my computer to crash. It would be so much easier (and less time-consuming) to import photos from my blog.

I'm sorry to hear the Judith head won't work on the fashion body. I'm too new to Dollmore dolls to have any suggestions. Until my first one arrives I won't know how she compares to resin colors from other companies. Good luck finding a substitute.

30. vermont chick, I don't know about blogs and such. The photo would actually have to be housed on the site (have it's own url) - at least as far as I understand it.

And, well .... I just bought a Zinna head from the Pirouette MSD doll off the MP. Crossing fingers she works for my character!

31. Congrats on your MP find! Pirouette is one of the dolls I ordered. You do know that the Zinna head on the ballet kid is the same as the Zinna head on the Judith body, don't you? If she doesn't fit your FMD body, maybe you can try her on a MiniFee body.

As for using my blog photos here, I've been thinking it over and it probably won't work. Blogger automatically resizes my photos for display on my blog, but I suspect they will be too big for DoA.

32. Hey, everyone!

While I don't have a Judith/Zinna doll, I do have two Dollmore Catish Reaa dolls that use the Judith body. Therefore I'm very curious to know what clothing works on the Judith body. Is there a compiled list somewhere?

Thank you!

33. I kind of figured it was the same head. The seller told me she wears a 6/7 wig so if that's true she *might* not be too bobbleheaded..... I should have her mid week or so to find out.

Is the skintone similar to the MNF? My only normal skin MNF is from 2010 and has yellowed nicely so I have nothing to really check against. I did order a Liria, so when she arrives I can see - but that won't be for several weeks.

34. The website says she wears a 7/8 wig. I guess it depends on the wig. Some 6/7s have more stretch than others.

I can't answer for the resin match yet, as none of my Judiths have arrived. DM's website says 30 business days for production, so it should be soon, taking into account their 3-day vacation at the beginning of the month and a holiday in early June. Anyway, as soon as my first girl arrives, I'll compare her to my FairyLand resins and let you know. My most recent normal skin is an FM60 from this year. My MNFs are older. I'll let you know.

35. Kirahfaye: My Zinna wears 6-7 wigs too~ The 7-8 she came with fits her only because Dollmore sent a silicone cap to prevent the wig from floating around too much.

36. Thanks, y'all. I'm crossing fingers that the Zinna head works. I'll post pics either way.

37. 7/8 tends to fit them pretty well. I have a few 6/7 that are stretchy and fit. But I usually go for 7/8.

I have a MNF A-Line body I can photograph one of the heads on if you would like.
The body is white, so I would do it with a white head, but I have a PKF that is normal skin I could compare to one of my newer Judiths.

I'm usually the go-to for Judith information because at this time I have 6 of them. Haha [3 Normal, 2 White, 1 Tan]
Plus about 25 other dolls. :P

Sorry for the late reply. I was on vacation and just got back today.
Usually I see posts in here sooner.

38. Thanks, Kielin! Hope you had a good vacation!

39. We were gone all day, but my Zinna Piroette head arrived and I got to play with it a bit. I didn't take into consideration that the neck hole would be completely different from the FMD head. First - it's much larger! Second, am I correct that the resin loop in the head cap is to hold one end of the S-hook (the way older heads were made)? Could someone provide a photo or two to show me how it works? I'll have to get a S-hook to fit - the one for the FMD head is much too small.

Oh, and I'll take photos tomorrow when I'm more awake..... :yawn

40. Congrats!

Yeah, it's to hold the s-hook. But you don't really need it with the magnets, and it can cause cracking or breaking, so I don't use it.

41. That's good to know - I thought it was an odd mix.

42. It worked! I'll probably get a new faceup for the Zinna, but here are some comparison photos of the Zinna Pirouette head on the FMD body next to my IP JID boy. Granted, she's on a stand in the full body shot, but my main focus was that her head looked in proportion to her body and worked with my boy. (BTW, that is not her wig, but it's the only 6/7 I had left so I'll be looking for a new wig now.)

43. I like the Zinna head on that body, Kirahfaye. Agree with Kielin that the neck is a bit long. She looks so petite and dainty.

Meanwhile, I am still waiting for my first Zinna to arrive. Whatever gave me the impression that Dollmore orders were quick to ship?

44. The neck is a bit long, but to be honest, the FMD head sits right on top of that neck and it's a 4/5 size. :|

45. I think she looks great! It's really nice to Zinna on such a delicate body... I think this head is so versatile!

46. I'm glad she works also - and hope that my 2 year/5 doll head search is finally over.... Her head is about the same size as a MNF and several MNF heads can look good with the even smaller ChicLine body, so I had high hopes. And I'm thrilled I was able to find her on DOA and not have to wait several weeks longer to get her through Dollmore.

47. Usually like 2-4 months. Unless it was around December, then they take longer.

48. Thanks, Kielin. I couldn't tell from the waiting room, which doesn't seem to get much activity, so I was going by Dollmore's statement: "In general, It takes 30 business days to make after receiving full payment." Obviously they are seriously underestimating production time. Guess I can stop checking my order status every day.

49. Egh really? Why do they say 30 days then >_< good to know at least! Will know not to worry.

50. Really? Most of you have waited this long? My orders usually have taken right around 30 days, how strange. I only have three Dollmore dolls and only two of them were ordered direct, but both times I got my shipping notice really close to 30 days.

51. I'm already at day 36 for my first girl, not counting weekends and holidays. Browsing other Dollmore threads, it seems some people get their dolls faster than that--sometimes in only a week or two. I wonder if some dolls are already cast and just waiting for a faceup before they're ready to go?

I have exactly 4 weeks until my next doll meet-up, and I want to bring at least one Judith with me. A Judith and a Ballet Kid would be even better.:)

52. Have you asked Dollmore about it? I have found they are very helpful when asking about the status of an order.

53. I'm not familiar with Dollmore wait times, however my doll took almost exactly 2 months before it was shipped to me from DDE.

54. Imagine my surprise when I logged onto Dollmore this morning and saw my Pirouette Zinna (ballet kid) status had changed to "Shipment Completed"! She's not even the first Zinna I ordered--she's the second (ordered June 6). I hope that means my Bitter Biscuit Zinna won't be far behind. Pirouette's tracking number is not showing up in EMS tracking yet. Presumably she'll be flying out later today. :dance

55. I had one that was under 30 days, and one that took almost 6 months. So it varies a lot.

56. Oh happy day! Bitter Biscuit Zinna has shipped! :dance That's two days after Pirouette Zinna shipped. Not sure why Dollmore didn't wait and ship them together. The folks at my Post Office think I'm crazy as it is. Two in a row will cinch it.
