i did a swap quilt for someone and the girls helped me pick out fabric fabric picking by onebluestocking, on Flickr it's funny to see ellyce be the bossy "big" sister
I found that they're a little fatter it seems in the legs. I tried to put some Ken clothing on Toulouse and he can't wear it in the butt. Same thing happens with my Leeke Chouette. :3
the are actually a bit chubbier all over. (i was just checking mine out to make clothes for them ) height/ length wise they are really close but anything that is snug and not stretchy on a littlefee wouldn't fit my dear doll (whoops i'm so used to searching for littlefee/yo-sd interchangeably for clothes i didn't read that right, but i only have deardoll and littlefee. they can swap t-shirts and looser fitting pants/dresses. tight stuff is a bit harder
Questions for all DearDoll owners from a covetous, "I really want to get her;" newbie to Dollmore. 1) I've read on this thread that she is really loosely strung. Does tightening the strings fix it all? Or is it a flaw in the double jointing in the upper torso? I'm just afraid that tightening would just make the torso joints all slippery and Kicky. Kinda like she wanted to "walk like an egyption" on the time. 2). If enabled to order.....how long is the average wait? I read some where here that a person got her in like 4 days 3) does anyone have any size comparison pics?
I ordered a Popo head on Monday and yesterday I had it at home! Dollmore has a really quick service O_O!!! Here's a picture of my finished makeup on her (there are really few customer pictures of this headmold). She's on a Leeke Art Body, I had to sand a bit the neck, but fits quite well!
Uber excited to hear that shipping is pretty fast. After seeing Yukari's pic not sure which one to get: Bomi or Popo?
1.i don't think tightening the string would help much at all. the problem is the string is just too flimsy. i restrung ellyce with 3mm shock cord (the same as 3mm elastic for dollies) and she is great now! it was my first restringing ever but other than the cord being too large for the s-hooks and needing to improvise around that, it was really easy. the channels in all the pieces were large enough to make it easy to get the bigger cord through. the only thing i would have done differently was to get bigger s-hooks before pulling her apart. 2. my dear doll came in just over a week, my shabee in almost exactly a week and i'm up in canada! 3. if no one else puts up comparison shots i can take one of my three girls - deardoll, honey delf and littlefee next week.
Thank you aunt bear a comparison shot would definitely help in the decision. Also thanks for the string tip.
auntbear, I would love to see the comparison picture as well I have been considering a LittleFee for a while but now have fallen in love with the Shabee sculpt. I'm just hesitant due to the stringing issues. I hate to pay out a lot of $$$ for a doll and then have to do a lot of work to her however that face is just to hard to resist.
i was scared of restringing too, since i'd never done it before. however it turned out really easy on shabee. maybe because all i was doing was restringing so i didn't have time to mix up any of the pieces.
Does anyone have a Customhouse or a Dollzone doll to compare resin with? I've been considering a new body for my Petite Ai. The only thing I dislike about the Dear Doll is those hands. They're so awkward, no matter how you pose the body. Why do so many yo-sized dolls have that completely useless pose?
Here are some comparisons: Ange Ai on his right and a DollZone BB on his left. Granted, he is newer so they are a little older and probably a little mellowy than him, but they have been kept out of direct sunlight. Also, Ange Ais are a lot smaller. His head would be big I think.
KohakuTenshi -- Does the Ange Ai resin match look worse in person? In the photo it looks fine, or at least, fixable. My boy is a Petite Ai, which is slightly larger than the Ange Ai. I can't remember if they have the same head sculpts or not, but I don't think they do, which would suggest the Petite Ai has a larger head. Thank you so much for that picture--another thing I had been considering was replacing my boy's hands with Dollzone ones, and now I see the resin may be a problem. I assume that's Dollzone's normal-pink?
Actually, he's a normal yellow. I never liked the pink because it was TOO pink. And the match is person is a little more yellow-pale. You can tell it's different even more. With the picture its not so bad. I think if blushed it might help...but you would have to blush it. :3
Hello there... I fell in love with Shabee the minute I looked at her! (Such adorable chubby cheeks! ^^) I am pretty new to BJDs though...erk. What exactly is "sanding service"? I'm a bit confused.... Is it worth the extra price? Also- are there any problems with the Shabee doll? I'd really like to know before I purchase this cutie.
All dolls have visible seam lines when they come out of the molds. Sanding service means the company will sand the seam lines away so you can't see them anymore. Whether or not it's worth the price depends on your personal taste. Some owners sand them themselves, and some owners just don't care about seams.
i didn't get it, but didn't find the seams all that noticeable anyway. the only problem i had with my shabee was the elastic she came with was way to flimsy and i had to restring her with heavier stuff right away. now she is perfect
Ahh, I see...Hmm, might as well just save myself the money. XD Did you buy her with the default faceup? If so, is it worth it?
i didn't just 'cause i like doing my own faceups. i was tempted by the default shabee though, she is so cute. if you can do your own or know someone that you want to do it for you then go for blank. if you can't paint your own and don't want to send her away after she arrives then go with the default. i ordered my first bjd with a faceup just so i'd have one usable right away.
Jeez, sorry, I hate to ask so many questions (I'm so new to this, please forgive me...;-; ) but may I ask some things about size and options for them on Dollmore? Umm, can they do things like fitting in a teacup or teapot? Are they enormous looking in person or small looking? (Like- do they fit in the palm while sitting?) Do they pose well or are they not so great for posing? Which of the options Dollmore offers is really worth the extra? (Example- faceup, sanding, etc) What other clothes seem to fit them?
they definitely can't fit in a teacup. though if you turn it upside down it would make a great seat. i'll try to take a picture of ellyce next to something tomorrow so you can see scale. (my battery is charging right now and it's dark here anyway) if you have something specific you would like to see her with lmk and i'll try to accommodate
I was just asking if it could sit in a teacup...^^' Humm, nothing in particular I can think of- maybe just some joint detail and size comparisons to everyday objects and/or other dolls?
You don't have to apologize; we were all new once. Dear Dolls are 26.5 centimeters tall, which is about 10.5 inches. Barbie dolls are 11 inches, so picture a Barbie doll but about twice as big around and much heavier. (Ever since I started this hobby, I have to keep a yardstick next to my computer!) They can sit in your hand but you can't fit their whole bodies in the palm of your hand like you can with some smaller tinies.
I've ordered an Apple with face-up as well as a carrot wig and Vanessa dress from the US Dollmore Dealer Fabric Friends and Dolls. Apple's going to look quite old fashioned. She definitely needs a rename - I keep thinking of poor Gwenneth Paltrow's kid every time I say her name. Hopefully she'll be here soon, she's in transit to Australia.
Happy to find this thread. I just ordered a Narang, although the order won't go in until April so it's going to be a long wait. I ordered her with a standard face-up. Iris at Fabricfriends is wonderful on answering all my questions. I appreciate this. Jan
i had to restring mine 'cause the elastic she came with was horrible. but she was easy to restring (my first one too) and now she poses beautifully!
My PoPo head arrived today! She is adorable! I temporarily put her on my Iplehouse BID body. I'm hoping to give her a faceup this weekend. PoPo by dancingbeedolls, on Flickr
Yeah, I couldn't really get a great photo of her today, but she is absolutely adorable and she has so much character even without the faceup. I can't wait for her to get her real body and give her a faceup. The Iple body doesn't work AT ALL. The neck is waaaaaayyyy too big. I just put her body on layaway so it will be a couple of months. I didn't really plan her out very well, but then Dollmore is so fast. I ordered her head on the 4th and she came today. Now that's fast!!
i think dollmore is the fastest company out there. none of mine have taken more than a couple of weeks to arrive.
Reviving this thread to say that my Bomi girl arrived yesterday. OMG, so cute and little! I just had to tell someone. It's raining and I probably cannot get a decent photo of her, but maybe soon.
It's still raining here and impossible to get a good photo of her, but it will clear up in a few days. She really is the funniest little thing. She's a bit floppy at the moment; I haven't done much with her except put her in a little chair. Maybe today I'll tighten up her strings and see it I can get her head to stop lolling around.
she is very cute. you may find you need to restring her instead of just tightening her . i found the string the send with the deardolls was just too loose to work but with new elastic my shabee poses beautifully!
No, I wish. I bought it at the doll convention last summer. It was made by Janene Manning, a very wonderful and talented local seamstress.
Hi everyone! This thread seems pretty dead, but I'm hoping someone will come over and chat with me. Dear Doll Shabee is on my list for 2014 and I'm wondering if anyone else has one. I'd love to see some owner photos of Shabee!
my poor girl has been really neglected lately 'cause she is on the list of dolls that need new faceups and the weather is not cooperating (also the new dolls keep bumping her place in the spa since they are totally faceless and she at least has one) but even with a poor faceup the sculpt is still lovely! talia by onebluestocking, on Flickr i'm also not sure if they still do it, since my shabees are some of my oldest dolls, but when i got my deardoll/narsha they both came with free cute outfits included. the deardoll one was the panda suit talia is wearing
Talia is adorable! That wig is perfect for a child her age and she just looks so innocent and cute. I adore that angelic little face. Mine is going to be blond, and I want this wig for her. I like that Dollmore includes a wig for them and lets you specify one if you want to. I don't know if they come with a free outfit now or not. It looks like most of Dollmore's other dolls, including Narsha, comes with "default underwear" but even that isn't listed on Shabee's page. Ah well... there are a lot of cute choices in the clothing section for her, and I have other dolls her size at home. The plan is to order her and her 'big sister' Narsha together, hopefully sometime in late summer this year. I've been doing pretty good in sticking to my doll plans lately, so perhaps my little girls will be home and united with their parents by Halloween.
that wig looks really cute. the only other thing i would say is that when i got my dear doll she was strung on really flimsy elastic and was terribly floppy, wouldn't even sit up. i ended up restringing her right away on 3mm elastic instead. and now she is one of the most poseable of my dolls because of the extra body joint (she was pretty easy to restring too considering i'd never strung a doll and was pretty new to all things bjd!) i don't know if they have fixed that or not. the narsha dolls didn't have the same problem and my narsha shabee has still not been restrung. just something to keep in mind. i would definitely recommend the deardolls in spite of that, since restringing fixed the problem completely, and i have other dolls that don't pose well no matter how much they are restrung.
Thanks! hehe as soon as I saw that wig, it just cried out "This is toddler hair!" lol That's also good to know about the elastic! If they haven't fixed it, I'm not too worried. I am absolutely no stranger to restringing and I've got plenty of 3mm marine shock cord around here. I'm a big fan of Resinsoul, so I'm no stranger to crappy default elastic either. Almost the first thing I do with a new RS doll is restring him/her. I'm really happy to hear these dolls are very poseable, because so many dolls in this size just aren't. And you're right...with some dolls, no amount of restringing in the world will fix their posing issues.
that's good some people seem to be really scared of restringing and my poor girl was basically useless till i restrung her, so i like to warn people, but they are such lovely dolls i've never been able to figure out why they aren't more popular!
It's good that you warn people...not everyone is as experienced - or as fearless about taking dolls apart - as me. I wonder why Dollmore dolls in general aren't more popular, really. They make lovely doll sculpts and some of them look really realistic. Maybe that's part of why they don't seem to be as popular? I see a lot more stylized sculpts out there, which seems to be a lot of people's preference.
possibly, but iplehouse is really popular and their sculpts are almost all realistic.... i have a few dolls that aren't as popular like some of the sooms, my rosenlieds and my honey delfs as well. all lovely dolls, but they don't seem to get as much "play" time 'cause there is no one to talk about them with. so that might be part of the problem. and newcomers to doa might assume that the dolls aren't as well made if no one has them/talks about them? the dollmore dolls must be popular somewhere else though, cause the sculpts have been around for quite a while and don't get discontinued. the company couldn't keep going if so few people bought them...
Congratulations! And how ironic... Dear Doll Shabee and Narsha are the next two dolls on my wish-list. I'm really quite surprised that your Honey Delfs don't get as much attention...I would've thought HDF was one of those sculpts that I lot of people were into and would talk about. And I think you're probably right about newcomers making assumptions about which dolls are 'good' dolls based on how active the discussions topics are. I think some great companies are highly undervalued simply based on how much discussion they're receiving here on DoA. And yeah...somebody must have Dollmore dolls out there! They certainly sell out of their LE dolls regularly. If only we could get those Dollmore owners to come in here....
i have yet to figure out what makes a sculpt or doll popular, except that if a lot of people talk about it here it seems to become more popular and get more attention here at least. kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. so there must be somewhere else that the dear dolls are popular. i'd love to find out where so i could meet up with some of those owners too
what a sweetie! her dress and dollie suit her perfectly too i don't know how anyone ca look at shabees face and not want to take her home....
