Dollmore Banji! discussion part 2

Jan 3, 2006

1. Ah, well perhaps it was a blythe, not a pullip? I confess I am not the expert on those (though, Dollcena is for sure, since those are Disney). The outfits were very, very narrow, wouldn't even fit on my Min.

Pic reference for Winx/Bratz Babies:

2. Good to see the fashion show lineup, Clochette!
It is amazing that you got all of them to stand up at the same time! LOL!!
I think that once their legs are "locked" that they are ok.
I still say a prayer when taking pics. ;)

3. I just bought a Banji Elf ELLY Girl, EomJi (Wine). I'm a sucker for tiny and cute and red hair! LOL!

I read that her feet are larger than the Elfdoll Tiny 14cm girls. What shoes can I buy for her?

Thanks,

4. I believe Jet is wearing Blythe boots in the pic above, though "Blythe" seems to encompass a range from 24mm to 27mm, for some reason. I have found that the 25mm range seems to work best for shoes (which Elizabeth..an Eomji...is wearing in the "ho" picture). I've purchased most of mine from Audrey's Doll Gallery, she has quite a few styles in that size, as does Juju's on eBay.

5. Starting a new thread with some Chloe spam since the old one was closed due to length (=

6. Came to me a beautiful elf. I loved it. He is adorable! :)

7. Maggie loves to ride her skateboard.

How do your little men spend their time? :hamster:

8. another picture of Chloe to keep the thread going ^^ I got some things to make her another outfit, so I think I'll be sewing for her tomorrow.

9. An old picture of my sweet Banji.

10. What do you guys use to string yours? Mine came in today and I dunno if my string puller will fit in the channels.

11. I used a needle and thread on mine

12. I ended up making a hook out of jewelry wire and tied off the hands and feet with thread.

13. [IMG]

14. I was wondering why I did not have any news from fellows Banji's owners !!! (silly me!!!)

I was quite busy because of the triathlon, so Bérangère-Élodie commanded me a new dress!

15. Is there any secrets how to change the eyes? I have beautiful new eyes from DreamingTree and can't get my finger in that tiny space.

Also how to get rid if that huge knot inside the head?
Thank you for any help!

I am enjoying all the pictures!

16. [IMG]

17. I have been wondering if I should get a sweet rose banji boy to, to join my sweet rose girl. They belong together and it would have been cool to have a complete set^^

Have anyone ordered the boy?

18. Some very beautiful photos and dolls here.
I don't know how to change the eyes. I wonder that myself.

19. I got him last Friday *u* He is not yet finished though. I don't really know how the wig should fit, just on top(which gives him long bangs) or till the back of the head(which always falls off). I will make new wigs for him so I will need the info. XD I will probably need to make smaller shoes for him since the ones I bought makes him look like a character from Kingdom Hearts.
[IMG][IMG]

20. Currently I am saving up for 2 new banjies. I already have the Rose girl. So I am now going to get a Rose banji boy also. At the same time I`ll also order a Elf Elly Girl - Cara(Brown).

I can`t wait to get my new banjies. They are my must have dolls:)

21. Congrats manabusama! The Banji's are cute dolls. I think they are the first tiniest tiny dolls I collected. I have adored them.
:)

22. Thanks:) Well it will still be a while before I can do the order. But my main concern is if any of the banji clothes I wanted for my dolls will be sold out. You never know when stuff will be sold out. I remember this really beautiful pastel yellow banji dress Dollmore once had. I waited to long and missed my chance at ordering it. And I still regret it so not ordering that yellow dress in time:|

Banjies is also the first tinies I collected. And the only Tiny I have besides my BID Naias.

23. It took a while, but now I have finally ordered my Sweet Rose Banji boy to join my Sweet Rose girl:)

And I decided that for now I will only be having these two and no other banjies.

Elerosh he is so cute:) I just love the Banji bodies <3

24. Rynn007: Elfdoll uses fishing line (transite) to connect the hands (& feet) to the ends of the elastic in the limbs. The problem is that fishing line can stretch if you pull on the hands or feet too hard – Like when you have to fight to remove a tight pair of shoes. I think that using something that doesn't stretch, like sewing thread seems like a more sensible choice. I have also heard that some people make tiny hooks out of Jewelry wire, and use that to attach the hands and feet, just like the bigger BJD's.

Oliveoil: If you study how your bigger dolls from other companies are strung, you will see that it is possible to re-string your doll with the knot in a different area, like the body. In general, Dollmore strings all of their dolls with knots in the head, and it is a pain-in-the-ass for all sizes ~ Even for getting eyes into their bigger dolls!! Don't be intimidated to re-string your tiny: Banjis actually have fewer little pieces than other Tinies. Once you have re-configured the elastic, dealing with the tiny eyes will only be half of a pain ;)

P.S: DreamingTree ROCKS!!!

joankagami: Yeah, we've been over this a dozen times in the old thread (and in discussion groups on Flickr): It seems the best way to get shoes for your Banji is to "knuckle down" and make them yourself. Personally, I have had it in the back of my mind for a long time now to just give up and commission DaisyDayes (The Mistress of Tiny Sculpted Accessories) to sculpt some lower legs with boots already on (attaching at the knee), or just some shoes that attach at the ankle-joint – replacing the feet altogether – like Elfdoll does.

In the mean time, Rosa Palomino makes excellent shoes for tinies, including Banji.

Thank you for (patiently) reading all of my commentary! Here is a "rest" for your eyes:

My girl is named Elly, she is the "Peach" mold. She is wearing a Regency-Era outfit by Spampy with a matching bonnet by her Mother, Julienne.

25. Yay my sweet rose boy have been shipped:celebrate
Can`t wait for him to join my sweet rose girl.

I bought blonde hair for him. And asked if DM could please give him blue eyes like the girl.
I had to buy a dress set also for my girl. It`s weird that the LE sweet rose girl come with a dress but no underwear or bloomers:sweat. Poor girl have been going around with her butt bare.

GoodbyeKitty173 Oh she is so cute:)

26. TuT I haven't touched my banji for so long. I did dress him up though. I made a wig out of yellow pompoms(cut and glued on wigcap.) I teased it with a needle so it would be fluffy. The purple dress is from a cheap Kenny.
I'm embroidering a jacket for him now. I hope the material will hold up for a long time since this is just for practice.

27. oh it is great to see banji's...it has been ages since I came on banji thread...she was my first love.....the first bjd that I thought didn't look like a doll but like a girls...I didn't like big headed dolls at that time.........now I like a lot of different ones.. my banji is dressed as a forest girl at the moment, I really need to get her a new wig....she wants to say hi on this new thread....she still wants me to buy her a boyfriend.

28. Wilkies: Banjis are just super sweet aren't they~♥ Yours look wonderful! That dress is really nice.
Wigs are relatively easy to make. I'm going to ModgePodge some fur for mine.

29. I am loving all of these creative wig solutions!

Joankagami: Pompoms = genius!!

Wilkies: I feel like I should know what plant that spiky pod came from… is it a Cotton bole? Milkweed? some species of Chestnut tree?

… Interesting solutions leading to more questions :?

manabusama: Thanks for the sweet comment :aheartbea

As for the underwear: try 1/12 {dollhouse-sized} underwear by the Heidi Ott company. Both Adult and Child's bloomers will fit Banji; One will be short and one will be a longer fit. The dolls are expensive but the underwear is not. Her company is German, so you can probably get a better deal on price and shipping from where you are in Norway.

30. Wow,that is really creative, Joan. Luv the pom pom wig and embroidered vest.

I like the leaf hat Wilkies. I can relate to your Banji experience. I think Banji dolls were the first tines that I really got into. They started my tiny doll obsession. I also like many kinds of dolls now and have moved on.

I like the pretty dress/outfit Haeden.

Goodbyekitty, your Peach is so cute.

31. not sure what it is,I just had it with some potpouri....but she is going to get a new wig, just not sure what colour yet.

32. GoodbyeKitty, Dollightful Thanks. I might make one more out of different colors just for fun. XD I'll put him in a lot of costumes.

33. I have not gotten to take any pictures of my Sweet Rose boy yet. I have been kinda energyless for a while.

But I took a picture of my Sweet Rose girl just now. I got her a new dress. And I think I like it better on her than her original dress. The face-up matches the color of the dress perfectly:)

34. They are so adorable! >u<

35. Banjis are so cute! I may just get a Lime girl someday...

ADDED: Emoji insists she is going to be my first banji. She has a more variable face that shifts from thoughtful to shy depending on the angle. I have some Stacie clothes she might fit into, though most would be too big. I hope some of Stacie shoes I have might fit. I could probably make some clothes too with my minimal sewing skills. Does anyone know how long it takes Dollmore to ship?

36. Ordered my Emoji yesterday! I wanted to add to the shoe discussion that I've seen pictures of banjis that Only Hearts Club doll shoes would fit. I ordered a pair from Dollmore as well.

She has already told me her best friend will be a more realistic Beanie Baby bear I have and that I will need to make piles of fruit for them to share.

37. I'm getting a Banji in a trade and I have found this thread so helpful! Thanks!

38. Hello :D
It's been a while since I've posted, so here's some seasonally appropriate spam of my Peach girl:

39. My Emoji is at my house now! However, I'm three hours away at school and am going to wait until I graduate in two months before I open her. SO EXCITED!!! My family is going to Europe this summer and I plan on taking her with me! I'll have to make her some clothes first...:)

40. I was home for the weekend and couldn't resist!
[IMG] Drat. Its sideways. Just emailed from my phone, sorry about that.
She has since claimed "the boots", a Stacie sized, cowboy style, hot pink pair that were once worn constantly by a favorite vintage Crissy/ Buffy doll when I was little. They are currently the only shoes that fit without looking ridiculous.

41. Thank you for all those lovely pictures, please keep them coming. My Banji did not get much love since I got her, but she is awaiting now her new wigs and face up, then I will present her here.

Can you recommend eyes for Banji?

42. hazelleyedlady: There is a lady named Amanda on Etsy whose store is called Dreaming Tree Studio. Her tiny, hand-made eyes are excellent, lots of detail, vivid colors and well-matched pairs – all for a reasonable price. She also can handle special requests. Sometimes there are "odd" sizes available in her store: Banjis can handle 5, 6 & 7mm eyes.

…I cannot recommend her highly enough :aheartbea

43. Thanks for this,I will try and post here sometime later.

44. Ooh, happy to see this thread active again!

Here's my little guys, Chibi Eiri and Chibi Shu (known collectively as The Chibs) in winterwear.

Chibi Eiri is a Banji with a custom Dollmore faceup and Chibi Shu is a Lime with default faceup.

Pants are Dollmore.
Shoes are (I think) Pullip.
Eiri's blond wig is from Dollmore. Shu's Dollmore wig came with the Banji and stole it.
Armwarmers are handmade and from the MP.
Everything else is Kelly/Todd.

45. Here is my girl with a new face up by suzanyab and a new wig (3" mohair wool wig from ebay seller releaserain).
I also ordered some 6mm Obitsu eyes, will post here how they fit.

46. She's stunning, What's her name again? Love her blue eyes and dark hair *_*

47. My Emoji, Nita, went to Paris with me.
She's wearing Kelly pants, Stacy shoes, and a top I made from a free Dawn Topper pattern.

48. Nita is cute, I have to try Dawn clothes.

I am afraid she does not have a name yet...

I can confirm that Monster High knitted clothes are a good choice as well as Obitsu 6mm eyes, as shown below.

Although I feel they give her a bit of a "deer caught in a headlights" look, i wonder if irises are too big or because the eyes are so light?

49. She is cute! If you position the eyes up a bit with the pupil closer to the top lid, it will reduce the "deer in the headlights". Part of it is the light color and iris size, but repositioning them should help a lot.

50. I've been lurking here for quite a while. ;) You all have some very cute dollies!:aheartbea

I got a Banji in a trade and as he had some issues with severe yellowing (among other things), I was hesitant to even acknowledge I had one, lol. Well, a lot of work later and I think I can introduce my modded Banji elf named Dandelion. I removed his human ears and made new elf ones with apoxie. His eyes are real agate beads with the holes painted black, and good friend made the outfit.

51. Great idea with beads for eyes, I must try it too. Did you make his outfit?

52. hazelleyedlady -A dolly friend hand sewed the outfit for me. I did make the wig though, lol.

Looking at his picture you would never know he was stained neon yellow and pink, had his original eyes super glued in (what a nightmare!), a broken face plate (resulted from removing those darn eyes!), and missing his right forearm (I still haven't forgiven myself for loosing it!). So he was very damaged before I got him, but I added to it! Still makes me sick! Love him anyway!

53. I really love Banjies but it really bothers me that Dollmore have stopped to make clothes, shoes and wigs for them.. I understand it is hard to sew for them. But at least before they made a little something new from time to time. It's like they don't even bother to anymore :|

And I wish it were just a little bit easier to find stuff for your Banji dolls. I only have my Sweet Rose boy and girl. The poor selection have made me not want to get another Banji doll. But at the same time I want more.

Still do enjoy very much the Banjies that I have. Been thinking about maybe getting a Kiwi boy. I guess I just have to learn to look for stuff for them else where.

54. Sewing for my recently renamed Sparrow (previously called Nita) is a pain. I have a Real Puki who is equally tiny, but at least her hands come off for tight sleeves! I dress I made Sparrow no longer has sleeves, as her big hands split a shoulder seam. Now I'm going to see what I can sew with felt.

55. Oh, Wow: Don't get me started!!!

Leo Pheonix:
I hear ya!!! I have bought a few high-end dollhouse dolls' dresses for my Banji, and the main problem I've had is fitting her hands through the sleeves :doh

If you don't mind sewing on a tiny (2-3mm) button & loop closure, you may have to cut along the seams to create a widened cuff to allow for dressing. I can't think of how one could "let out" an armpit seam. If you are making your own clothes, you could use the circumference of her hand as a guide for the shoulder/armpit.

Another problem with ready-made dollhouse doll clothes, is that A) They're usually made for a slightly taller doll. While pants can be worn fashionably long & baggy, dresses often need to have the trim carefully removed before hemming. B) Period clothing is usually made for dolls with a slender waist (imitating corsets). Banji's figure is childlike, and too wide to work that way. Here's an older photo of my Banji (Peach mold) wearing "Heidi Ott" Victorian dollhouse-doll clothing. I had to cut the sleeve seams to fit my Banji's hands through, and the dress is actually open at the back because it won't close around Banji's waist:

Manabusama: I too am really disappointed that Dollmore hasn't done anything to update their Banji bodies in the last, say, seven years. I remember reading an ooooold notice in the "Dollmore News" section about replacing "old" knee joints with newer ones on Banji purchases. My Banji's knee-joints are the "newer" version, but are still pretty basic in their design – I can't imagine what they would have been an improvement on!!
… Magnetic ankles and wrists are one solution, but can be finicky at smaller sizes: The magnetic parts on Fairyland's smallest dolls work well, But Elfdoll Tinies' wrists are so slender that the hands are too easily lost. It would seem to be a much simpler design fix to use hooks at those joints, rather than stringing the elastic directly through the hands & feet. Some people have mentioned in this thread that they've created tiny hooks for Banji on their own, and have been pleased with the results.

Secondly: I have said it before and I will say it again: We need to get some tiny doll modifiers on DoA to think about designing better wrist & ankle joints for Banji – or even sculpting new designs for hands and feet! DoA member DaisyDayes has made wonderful Fawn/Goat legs & Centaur bodies for Banjis (and Fairyland's Pukis). I would love some sculpted shoe-feet for Banji, just like Elfdoll makes for their tinies :aheartbea

Thank you to everyone who patiently read through my rant! We all love our Elf-Ellies but sometimes we need to vent!

Amanda :daisy

56. I bought some shoes for my girl from DDE, but their too big. I am getting very cross with the Emoji default wig, because it won't stay on her head form more than 2 seconds at a time unless it's positioned in a way that makes it look stupid, half off her head.:x The elastic that's meant to keep in on her head seems to be doing the opposite. Any suggestions?

57. Issun's default Sweet Dew wig was the same way... as were the few other wigs I tried buying for him when I first got him. >_< I ended up just making a little fur wig for him myself in the end, and using a drop of white craft glue to make sure it stayed put.

I need to make the little guy some new clothes... He hasn't gotten anything new in years. Well... Noting except his "personal transit pod", anyway. (He's traveling with me to visit relatives for the holidays, and I got him one of those hard-shell eyeglass cases made for over-sized sunshades to ride around in. That way I don't have to worry about him getting mangled when TSA inevitably decides to paw through my carry-on. )

58. I resorted to super gluing Sparrow's wig to her head cap. I hope her bangs didn't end up positioned too high. The white glue didn't work at all and hot glue only lasted a day of redressing and posing. I plan to commission Spampy Stuff for a long sleeved dress and a sweatshirt at some point.
