DOLLITS DKD Mini Discussion Thread

Yay! My somi has a tracking number and is Queued for shipment!

 

Excellent news. So happy to see more Somis. I had a delay getting my girl paid off but I just got word that she's off getting her face up now and will ship once it's completed.

 

I had stopped ordering BJDs till I saw Miso and fell in love with that laughing face. I am planning to order a Miso from Dollits, but can't decide if I should go with normal skin or white skin. I want her to look 'human', but I'm not sure how 'white' the white skin really is. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me make a decision? I love J. Baek's photos of her, but I'm finding it difficult to tell if the skin is white or normal! Any help would be really appreciated.

 

I've just ordered a Dollits Miso! I am so thrilled that I found this doll with her face just filled with delight. I look forward to being able to share her with you when she arrives. Since it looks like her measurements are very close to those of the Ellowyne Wilde doll, I've ordered a couple of Ellowyne patterns from Designs by Jude so that I can start on a wardrobe for her! Shoes seem to be more of an issue. It looks like her feet are about the same size as the Matt doll by Tonner, but she can't wear guys shoes all the time. Can anyone suggest a good place to get shoes for a 51mm foot?

 

Somi is here! She's absolutely adorable and she poses like a champ right out of the box.

@Flamingomoon my girl wears shoes made for Nine9Style Bunny Nine girls. They fit even with socks.

I've been wanting Soohee for a while but didn't plan to buy her until later in the year. I happened to look on the website and saw she was out of stock but after sending a message, I was told there were a couple left and I could buy one! ^_^

I'm so glad I was able to get her in time! I really looking forward to her and will show her off here when she arrives.

My Somi arrived Monday. She's just so adorable! I wasn't really feeling the pale blue eyes sent along with her, but a quick change was all she needed. Sorry my pic came out so blurry. Not sure what's going on with my phone's camera setting. Now all she needs is a name.

My Miso won't arrive for awhile, but I'm so interested to know if she poses well. I am very insistent that my dolls stand on their own and hold a pose, so I'm hoping you'll give a review of her abilities!

My soohee is being held ransom, hoping the letter will arrive today so I can pay the fee and have her sent out on monday. :P
She's my first dollits so I'll be doing a lot of playing about with her posing (first thing I do with a new body: try and get the most extreme poses I can!), I'll show my results here when I do. ^_^

 

Wow, Supernova, I hope the ransom payment goes without a hitch and you get to show off the released Soohee! Can't wait to see her.

Soohee arrived the other day and she is just stunning! I haven't had a chance to take decent photos yet but I do have some quick snaps to share:

Ida (Dollits Soohee)

Her posing is fantastic! She has tiny feet which I think give her a few balance issues (she has trouble standing on one leg) but I'm certain once she's hot glue sueded she will be solid as a rock! For some reason she stands even better in heels!
She has very smooth resin and her hands are so delicate and beautifully sculpted!

 

I love your photos. I know you'll have a wonderful time with Ida, and I'm looking forward to even more photos .

 

Not that I'm excited or anything, but my Dollits Miso is ON HER WAY TO ME! I didn't think I would get her before the last of June or maybe even July .... but she is already on her way from Korea.
Wheee! I can't wait for all of you to meet her.
I have been sewing for her (now we'll hope it fits!!).

Ida is in dire need of her own clothes, she's been borrowing from other for now.

I hot glue sueded Ida the other day and here are the results:

Ida is ready for gymnastics class! And in HEELS!!
I have never done the hot glue thingy but Ida is really a champ at posing. I have a large elf doll who's elastic has suddenly gone and I'm going to have to restring him (terrified at the thought ) and I'll do the hot glue also. He's terrible at holding a pose.
I discovered that the Ellowyne Wilde doll from Tonner (fashion doll) has measurements which are very close to the D.K.D. body, so I've used a couple of Ellowyne patterns and then modified a couple of fashion doll patterns that I had. I'm looking forward to seeing what Ida "borrows" from your other dolls.

I was so surprised by how well she stands in heels! I'm glad her feet are working in my current shoe collection, I thought her tiny feet would drown in them!
I highly reccommend hot glue sueding! It takes a little practise to get it right but I now hot glue suede all my dolls, especially in the hip and shoulder sockets.
I've heard about Ellowyne Wilde shoes from minifee discussions, I think they should work well!

So far Ida has fitted into a lot of my slim msd stuff while also being able to fit into more standard msd clothing. The only thing I've found so far that didn't fit is a bunnynine skirt but that's to be expected! :P

 

@Supernova Shoes? I would not have thought that the Ellowyne shoes would fit, but then I have no measurments for the high heel feet so maybe they will.
Question, do you take your dolls completely apart to do the hot glue sueding?

 

Does anyone know what the resin match is like between Dollits and Souldoll? I have a Souldoll head on the way and really like the Dollits body but not sure if a hybrid would work.

 

Wildly excited to let y'all know that Miso aka Lizzy M. Snow arrived yesterday! I could not be happier with her. J. Baek sent really pretty blue eyes and so here is her first headshot. No wig yet, but you'll see those soon! She is done in white skin.

Congrats @Flamingomoon ! I love your Miso, even without a wig. Her face-up is much prettier than it appears on J. Baek's website. And her eyes are gorgeous! I still want one of these girls...someday when I have extra money.

 

Honestly, Vermont Chick, I was so happy when I opened her that I got tears in my eyes. How about I tempt you with a shot of Lizzy taking a bike ride today. She's wearing an outfit I made from a pattern by Designs by Jude for the Ellowyne Wilde doll. Her wig is mohair from Kemper and its called Ashley. Shoes were made for 14" Kish doll and are a tiny bit large, but a little cotton in the toe made 'em stay on just fine.

@Flamingomoon - Great photo! Wow, this body really is slim if Ellowyne Wilde patterns fit. I use those patterns for MiniFees. The Kish shoes would probably work well with socks or tights. I just love Miso--and normally I don't like dolls that show a lot of teeth. She looks genuinely happy.

 

Does anyone have a photo of their Dollits mini next to a minifee or unoa they'd be willing to share?
I'm trying to get a feel for how these girls look next to other dolls but am not having much luck.

A while ago I emailed dollits asking if they had any idea if or when SooHee was going to be offered again. They said, basically (but nicely) "don't hold your breath." Then a couple weeks later I got an email out of the blue saying they'd found one more and did I want her? Of course I said yes and she arrived a couple days ago! I just love her serious solemn face!

 

Congratulations! I am so happy for you. She is a beauty, and I hope you'll enjoy her as much as I am enjoying my Miso.

 

I'm watching a Korean TV series on Netflix called "Man to Man", and I keep thinking that the lead actress, Kim Min-jung looks like Dollits Somi!

 

I'm gonna jump in here because I've recently fallen in love with Miso~ I'm usually super picky about female dolls (well, all dolls in general...) but she grew on me so quickly! (I just but a WtB thread on the MP this morning, but I doubt it'll get any hits since she doesn't seem too terribly popular... I'll order her from the company in a bit if it doesn't!) I don't have a name or anything for her yet (except yhat I think she'll be a redhead), but I'm super excited to get my first female doll! I can't wait to shop for her, it seems like there's so much more variety for girls than boys. And she just has such a wonderful positive energy about her!

Nami got a haircut. I originally didnt want her with straight bangs but now its growing on me.

 

@KiyoshiSenshi I love it that you are hooked! I adore my doll. she moves well, poses well and makes me happy every time I look at her little face.
I went with white skin because I wanted a slightly pink tone, but the normal skin is very pretty also. You mentioned "redhead" ... just took this photo yesterday. Lizzy borrowed a wig from my little Bleuette doll. The wig is called Lulu and is made by Monique wigs. Color is 'Carrot'.

That color is so fantastic on her! I wanna go for a sort of chic and modern but kind of "southern belle" look and character for my Miso, so I might have several different styles of wig to go with her outfits. I'm also really happy to hear she poses well! The joints looked really nice from what I could see on the website, but it's great to hear it from someone who's had experience with the body. Thank you!

Hi all! I don't mean to double post, but I've been looking through this thread and can't find an answer so... Can DKD girls wear Minifee clothes? I know DKD girls are slightly taller, so maybe pants would be too short...but a lot of the clothes I have saved on my wishlist are for MNFs and I was wondering if I was going in the right direction there. Thanks for any help!

 

My Soohee can wear a lot of minifee clothes especially tops! As long as bottoms have stretchy material then they should fit too. Dresses will be shorter on her and long sleeved tops too but otherwise she shares their clothing pretty well.

Example: She can fit into a kalcia's workshop lace top very well (though it's a pain getting it on through her hands >_< wish all dolls have magnetic hands!)

 

Thanks so much! That's good to hear, especially since most of the stuff I want to get for Lacey is either stretchy or short as it is. And for long pants/leggings, well...ankle pants are in fashion these days. And your girl is gorgeous! I love that hair on her~

 

I'll add a few things about clothing for the D.K.D. body. I've collected fashion dolls for years and am finding that my Lizzy (Miso) can fit into quite a few things made for the 16" fashion doll. Now, the arm length will be short, but quite often sleeves can just be pushed up and look fine. Sweaters usually present no problem at all. The measurements of this doll are very close to the measurments for the Wilde Imagination Ellowyne Wilde doll and I've used two patterns made for Ellowyne and they both fit very well. You do have to adjust sleeve/pant length. Shoes have been more difficult. Kemper has a basic black flat for $3 that fits perfectly. I have also bought shoes designed for the Helen Kish 14" dolls and while they are a bit long, you can put cotton in the toe and be just fine. I think that I was surprised that she is slimmer in reality than she was in my mind. For me and my collection, that is a fortunate thing! As for her high heel feet. That is tricky. I've tried the American Model Tonner doll's shoes and they a bit large, but "workable" if you stuff the toe. If anyone finds a 52 cm high heel shoe, I'd love to know about it. Wish she could fit the Smart Doll shoes only because it would be fun to have a doll that owned Jimmy Choo shoes!

 

White skin - "Item not in stock"?

Hey guys,
I've been looking for the perfect body for my mellowed DOD Bee-a, and fell in love with the DKD body. After looking at Dollit's resin colour comparisons, I actually think their gentle "White Skin" could actually work!

Problem is, these days the DKD body listing just says "Item out of stock" when you select WS. However, it isn't consistent throughout the store, eg. I can apparently order a Somi WS just fine.

Do any of you know how the availability of skintones with Dollits works? Are all doll parts pre-made or launched with a finite number? Do skintones come back from time to time? I see current pictures of new dolls from Dollits in both NS and WS, so clearly the WS is still around... Is there anyone who can provide any insight?

 

I don't really have an answer. I ordered my Miso in white skin without any problem. My only thought is that J. Beak uses normal skin for most of his photos on the site, so maybe he just doesn't keep the 'body only' in w.s.? Have you tried asking if he would make it?

 

Like Flamingomoon mentioned, I'd email J. Baek and ask about the skintones. He answered my emails quickly and helpfully when I was ordering my Miso! (Also, because of their unusually fast shipping times, I think they keep some dolls in stock, so that might be why they say it's out of stock on the website. If you ask, they could be able to make one but it might take longer? I could be absolutely wrong, but that's my guess.)

It takes him a couple of days to get to the Q&A and I couldn't read my answer on the board because it wouldn't take my password. I never figured that one out. But I'm sure he'll answer an email and I'll bet you can get a white skin body. It is a really nice body, by the way.

 

I finally got Lacey's shipping notice! She should be here sometime next week, hopefully~ And I got some super cute fabrics today. I know I wanna make at least a romper and a pair of high-waisted shorts, but we'll see how it goes. I'm so excited!

 

Ahhhh he is amazing! I would not expect any doll company to change an availability status just like that.

The first time I entered by password to read the message, the page didn't try to load and just blamed the server. Then when I refreshed it told me my "approach" was invalid. Then finally I did the whole login thing over and it was fine...

Thanks so much! I'm hoping to get her sent away for a faceup almost immediately after getting her, so her headless body will have to be my model for a while...but that's okay! I'm hoping her hair, eyes, and finished head will all be home around the same time, but we'll see!

 

I just wanted to share a new photo of Lizzy (Dollits Miso) with her new Masterpiece eyes in Blue Ice.

The other eyes that I have for her all had a larger pupil and with her 'smiling eye' shape you didn't see the color of the iris very well. It just looked dark. So I looked for ones with a small pupil and I'm very happy with the result.

 

Well... dang. That's a really cool doll; definitely something I don't see a lot and I totally dig it! I wouldn't have thought to make her into a witch but that works perfectly.
And, unrelated to your lovely witch --

Does Dollits do 'sets' of a number order of dolls, goes sold out, and then brings them back later? Or is it different? I'm just wondering since SooHee looks really cute and I was considering on getting a floating head for one of my dolls... Not sure how the resin comparison would work out, so I've debated on maybe getting one with a head since, well... Then I won't have a floating head and body, in worse case scenario? XD

 

I messaged J Baek when I saw Soohee was out of stock. He told me he was going to stop selling her but had a few left over. I'm not sure if he has any left but it's worth asking.

 

She looks so good! I love Misos so much~

I'm planning to get these eyes in 12mm for Lacey, I think they'll be bright enough to be seen with her smiling eyes. And I've got my favorite faceup artist lined up and ready, I know what hair I'm getting...everything is falling into place!
