DOLLITS by J Baek

He is making a new doll at the moment. I don't know if he means Oscar or a doll in a new size. In November, he was planning to offer Oscar in December or January. He plans to offer tan sometimes next year too, though he doesn't know when.

It sounds like the D.A.D. is going to be a body-to-sew-for. I had hoped it wasn't going to be the case. Well, hopefully, they'll kind of work with one of my girls. Though the pants...

I hope tan won't be some "quantity limited" or "period limited" thing. I would love to see a mature woman from him in tan.

And in other news, I've gotten face-up previews on my Rey. It's almost worth the four months wait!

 

Lady Tiku In other words anything sold out now is gone for good? Or is there still hope for a restock of Hyun in the long run? He's been on my list from the start, but all the dolls on the site seem sold out now >< I really hope J Baek is only taking a break and keeps making his DAD sculpts...

 

*shock* I've never thought of Dollits as a one-man company which could disappear in a blink of an eye.
I do hope he'll offer the D.A.D. one more time, with or without a head. I was planning an hybrid with it. I waited for him to create a head which fitted with my other dolls in case the hybridisation wasn't good enough. I assumed, him having worked for 'big' companies, that he'd keep at it as long as was necessary to build a lasting brand.
I'll be buying Oscar, that's for sure!

 

@Lady Tiku, So Oscar it is.
I had a look at Mr Baek's Korean Blog, and he is promoting the 60th Dollfree Market in Seoul. It is taking place on the 19th and 20th December 2015. I've no idea if he is taking part, but if he is, it could be the reason why he is not taking any orders at the moment. I know Dollmore will be there. So it must be quite a big thing.

 

Are there pics of Oscar somewhere?

@Jany, @Dayme, if you go to DOLLITS - 돌리츠에 오신 것을 환영합니다!, click on the 'English' tab, you have a page with an extreme left column headed by ' favourite' in red, below ' order tracking', then a list of links including one to facebook and twitter. Click on the green circle with a white 'b' inside. This will get you to Mr Baek's Korean blog.

@Jany, @Dayme, Mr Baek has some pictures of Oscar in his Korean blog, though none are very recent. In the extreme left hand side, you'll find the mention of Dollits between hearts and below 'D.A.D.'. If you click on D.A.D., you'll find some pictures of Oscar. He has another picture that you can find by clicking on the word 'blog' below his heading picture (at the moment, it is showing Hyun). If you go down the main column, you'll find another picture of Oscar underneath the 'interview with Mr Baek' section. Oscar is shown at a slight angle.

Sorry for the long winded explanations. I wish that Mr Baek had taken the time to post more pictures of Oscar on Flickr for instance.

Best of luck concerning Hyun, he is a favourite of a friend of mine. . I like Hyun and Rey equally, but, in my mind, they are difficult sculpts to handle. I see Oscar as having the potential of being an 'easy' sculpt which can accept a number of personalities. Fingers crossed. I would feel safer in my choice if I could see more pictures.
Mr Baek doesn't do advertising on a grand scale, does he? :/

I received a reply on the Dollits Q&A about a possible Hyun restock. The answer I received is better than anything I ever hoped for. J Baek says:

Do any of you know how Dollits' layaway program works? I asked on the Q&A as well.

Too bad Oscar didn't show up for the Winter event

 

I have never dealt with Dollits' layaway program, I'm afraid. He should come back to you quickly, after all, he has an event up. If he doesn't, an email would do the trick. I sent an email both in Korean and English and it did the trick (google translation has its use ).
It is an okay event for people who already had planned to buy one of the current dolls + some more dolls/heads/bodies in the future. But it isn't enough for people like me who are on the fence regarding a body for which it is difficult to find clothes that fit perfectly (just looking at Dollits' offerings and it put me off finding clothes for the D.A.D.body) and who expected to see the new head for sale.

Saying that, at least you can get Hyun.

That's one of the most convincing smiling faces I've seen so far.

 

I prefer Hyun and Rey. His smile is too wide for me. He could look clownish with the wrong face up. Well, it's no big deal, I'll wait for another head or just buy the body when I've got the funds.

 

Oscar looks so mature and grown up, unlike Hyun. I love his smiling face but won't be adding him to my collection. He isn't as versatile as J Baek's other sculpts and I wouldn't know exactly what to do with him é_è
I'm so excited to see what other collectors will do with this sculpt though! Anyone have plans for him already?

 

Hyun has a very young face. I wish I was sure of Rey's head, but I haven't seen enough pictures of him with custom face-ups to feel like adding him to my crew. I'll attempt the Dollshe/Dollits hybrid at one point unless the resin colour is totally off.

Slinking into this thread...I'm one of the suckers that fell for Oscar. I love his face...it's so distinct looking. What I appreciate about the sculpt is how unique and quirky he is. I have no clue what I'm going to do with him or even the concept but I think he'll be the joker of the bunch. Plus I love the expressive hands.

Anyone else order him?

 

Really interesting! I hope he makes a 65cm body with the same aesthetic - realistic but with a slender, somewhat shoujo manga-esque build.

I want something to fit SD17 clothes that isn't the SD17 body (unpopular opinion but personally I do not like SD17's sculpt at all; unfortunately for me, it seems universally beloved, emulated, everybody makes clothes for it and all the bodies that fit those clothes look like it).

 

@mdonline03 Ohhh goodies!! ^^ I'm so glad someone ordered him, just so I can get to look at what you decide to do with his gorgeous smile! Did you get the full doll, or just the Oscar head?

& @Miri, I believe the Dollits heads fit on Ringdoll bodies, and the Ringdoll RGM04 body is around 68cm! ^^ I don't know if that'll do any good for your project, though.

 

The photos of Oscar have stolen my heart! I have been pining over Hyun for months but now I've switched over entirely to this new sculpt. I'm trying to resist but...alas. Is there layaway instructions somewhere on the Dollits website? Also, does anyone know what the longest timeframe/number of payments for a layaway with Dollits is? Thanks!

 

Hey @Anante! I've asked Mr. J Baek about layaway back in December when I was planning to place an order on DAD Hyun (in the end I didn't get him because a limited sculpt came out, ruining my 2015 BJD plans ><). Here was his answer in the Q&A:
Hello!
It is possible two months split payment.
320$ 300$ (Only $)
Layaway is paid the first payment amount point.

Hope this helps! ^^ The reason he wrote (Only $) is because I asked if it was possible to pay the Korean won price. In the end only USD was possible.

 

@Dayme Thank you! I was trying to read the Q&A topics that said 'layaway' but they were all locked. Thank you for telling me JBaek's response. ^^ I still love Hyun even if Oscar has stolen the spotlight. I was watching a sales thread for a Hyun head in the marketplace for weeks but end up getting a different head.

 

@Anante I know exactly which sales thread you are talking about, since I was watching it too! haha
I've been in love with Hyun since his release, but I keep postponing his purchase for some reason... I really hope I can get him in 2016-2017! "Grail doll" are the perfect words to describe the special place Hyun has in my heart.

If you do end up getting Oscar, please do keep us updated! I really really like his beautiful smiling face, so I can't wait to see what his owners decide to do with him ^^

 

I got the full doll. I've been intrigued by Dollits/ J. Baek for quite some time now. I ordered him in white skin hopefully (unless he over sold somehow). I think the sculpt is well suited to being a pale type.

I'm hoping standard 70cm/SSDF clothes will fit him. I'll go look through the thread again - but seem to remember seeing notes about the 70cm stuff from Nine9 & saw the selection on the website, so I'm hopeful.

Am I the solo Oscar buyer?....say it isn't so....

 

Oscar and the gift hands are not limited right? It would be more responsible of me if I got him later in the year than right now. Sad but trying to be an adult about it--ugh but I love him so much!

 

This is my first order with Dollits so I'm not sure how the release cycles work. My understanding of Oscar is that he isn't limited. I think it's just this first release of him that the quantities are limited. I'm pretty sure you should be able to get him during a future release. I don't know about the hands though...but maybe drop a note on the QA board or his Flickr or FB for piece of mind.

 

@mdonline03 Thanks! Actually I caved in real fast--I ordered him on Sunday in normal skin and no faceup. Plus full payment made...and I got my shipping notification from Dollits today!
I'm very curious how my new guy will look next to my Ringdoll boys. I will be naming my Oscar 'Seren'. I hope he gets to me quickly!!

@Akatsuki Your Rey is beautiful! I know that shirt too Can you tell me what size your boy is wearing?

I was re-reading in the thread trying to figure out what size the DAD body would wear and there doesn't seem to be any definitive answers. If SD17 is too small - is it because it's in general too short or is it too small in the waist/pants/thighs or across the chest/shoulders? Is the 70cm a better size in general? Looking at the measurements the waist is pretty small - so it makes me think SD17 will work.

If anyone has any reference pictures that would be super. I really want to order the royal guard set for Oscar before the sales period is up but not sure if the 70cm is the right size. Any help appreciated.

 

I know that Rey & Hyun wear Nine9Style clothing on the company pictures, and the biggest size available on their website is SD17. For example, Hyun wore this stunning turtleneck here. I bet the tops would fit, but for the bottoms it's hard to tell.

Thanks! I think the hard part is choosing between SD17 and 70cm since 9nine and other places have both sizes. I agree the tops would probably fit. It always seems to come down to the pants... I'm just going to have to wait till he gets home and try the things I have. I'm just not willing to gabble on a $$$ suit that might not fit.

I still have no clue about his style or character. I don't even know if I have a decent wig for him. Lol.

In any case I'll report back with some "what fits" news after he arrives and I can fiddle with him. According the shipping update he's just made it into customs so probably he'll be delivered tomorrow or Wednesday while I'm at work
I have to wait till the weekend. I can't wait to see his silly smiling face.

My Dollits Oscar came home yesterday! His smiling face is amazing in person and I'm still smiling since yesterday. Especially when I see him sitting in my doll shelf. No faceup but hopefully I will get to do one this weekend. Poor guy is borrowing everything from my other dolls except his wig. He can't sit upright which is strange--I'm hoping someone with a Dollits D.A.D. body had advice for this?

Did you figure out how to get him to sit upright? On the website he does seem to be sitting on a stool comfortably. Does the chest joint allow to lock his back into a certain slouching pose?

p.s. those d.i.y. videos of the camera and the magnifying glass... they look awesome. I wish I had more time and focus to make more handmade items for my dolls.

 

@Dayme Thank you! Having him home is such a joy and I hope I can do his face justice with a faceup. I've been trying to figure out his sitting situation but no luck yet. The back is really good at holding slouches but it's really the hip sockets that are sculpted so he can't make a ninety degree bend. I have to prop him against something (usually a wall--sometimes another doll lol) and pop his mobility joints in his thighs to get him to sit. But he can't sit up on his own. I hope it doesn't come to the point I have to sand away at those hip sockets. The Dollits photos baffle me. I wonder how he is sitting on that stool?

@mdonline03 I have all these 70cm clothes from Alice's Collections but they are a tad tight on this body. He is also wearing a pair of pants from Ringdoll but they are too long. I do like the baggy look on him. So tights tops and baggy bottoms. XD I hope I can get him a nine9style clothing order in a month. I hope those will fit him--especially for those prices. And thanks for subscribing! Glad you like my lil crafting experiments too. I bet you'll love your Oscar as soon as you open then his box! Can you let me know if you also have trouble making the D.A.D. body sit upright?

 

I took a looooong lunch at work today so I could go to the post office, pick him up and open him! Shame on me...but I do work 12-16 days so it's fair right! Lol

Anyway...I absolutely love Oscar!!! He is the most joyful doll. Happiness and peace just exudes from him. I'm so happy I got him. I did some quick fiddling and yes I can get him to sit. You just have to adjust him from his hip joint and he sits up straight just fine. I also love the way he is jointed with all the little locking mechanisms so he can hold the pose without being floppy. Now granted I had about 10 minutes to de-box, dress and fiddle.

I quickly put him in a pair of Sadol 70cm pants and 70cm/SSDF top that fit perfectly. I need to double check on the pants. I'll look through my order history on the pants...I also have a bunch of other stuff to try on him. Will report back once I'm properly at home...lol.

I can't wait to get him styled.

Update:
Here he is in his little blank happiness. He's wearing a Sadol SSDF suit and it fits fine. Yeah!!!

Still need to get his proper wig, eyes, and face-up but I'm super happy.

On facebook, Dollits is showing a new sculpt. It totally grabs me! I just hope Dollits will propose a darker skin at some point.

@Lilla I painted my guy, Seren, last weekend and it's so nice to see him with a face. I'm so in love with the Dollits faceup but I tried to not follow it closely, plus I'm still learning with faceups. Here he is:

He's still very loosely strung but now he's my cuddly 70cm boy. All my Ringdoll guys came to me super tight but this guy is pretty floppy, but sweet. I can't wait to see other faceups on their Oscars~ I also finally learned how to make him sit upright--it's odd compared to my other dolls but okay. I'm guessing it's also partly due to how loose he is.

The new head J. Baek is working on looks super cool!!! I hope he doesn't get added to my wishlist. XD

@Lilla So you are an LR Andre fan as well? I find the new Dollits head looks quite similar in a way, but more mature. I love the concept of sibling dolls, so a ton of ideas popped into my head when I saw him!

 

@Dayme , siblings...they are my downfall.

I've got news from Dollits about the tan option (which doesn't exist at the moment). He is going to propose it for D.K.D.
Tan for D.A.D. could be a problem as they are big dolls. The manufacturer says that tan for the D.Y.D. size (65cm) is ok though.

I think it's a shame this thread is so quiet. I just got my first doll from Dollits (I have Oscar) and I absolutely adore him. At the moment he's off getting a face up. I can't wait till he's back. I'm already collecting his wardrobe.

Also on a random hybrid note while my Oscar is off getting pretty, I tried my Rosen Garden Rui on the D.A.D. body and it's perfect. I was waiting for the Dollstown 17 boy body but the Dollits body is really the aesthetic I want (and I know that I can easily find clothes for the D.A.D.). My Oscar may need to fight to get his body back.
