Dollism Plus US Sep 19-21, 2014, presented by Dollheart, Den of Angels & Mint on Card

May 11, 2013

    1. any news on tickets and prices yet?

    2. I haven't seen any updates on the original post last one was in July..would be lovely to know, even though its a year away I'd like to book a room now if its possible.

    3. Can't wait for more news. <3 My friends and I (at least four of us so far!) are coming up from Florida for that whole week. Also, waiting on vendor information and possibly artist alley information! Lumedoll (Eva) is thinking about coming to this event, or sending some of her things with me if she can't make it... so really looking forward to all information!

      -bouncing-

This vacation is going to be sweeeeeeet. :3

    4. Oh that would be awesome if Eva from Lumedoll could attend. Well, my wallet wouldn't think it was awesome and would likely weep hysterically and beg for mercy, but I'd love to see more Lumedoll's in person (I have a Koit).

Does anyone know if other North American sculptors (like Medusa of BBD or Batchix) are going?

    5. I heard that Batchix attends Anime North regularly which is held in Toronto (2ish hours from Buffalo) so I think it is a pretty high likelihood that she will attend!!

    6. Look two posts before yours for the most recent mod post (Post#659, 10/25/13)

    7. Batchix was the guest of honour at DollNorth (the doll con inside of AN) this year (and was lovely to meet in person), but I don't recall seeing her there in an official capacity the previous couple of years. I'd have definitely remembered as I really like her machina boys and would've been seriously tempted in years past to plunk some cash down. If she, or other NA sculptors, were to show up at this, that'd be pretty darn awesome.

    8. Man I want to go to this soooooo bad but NY is so far away and I don't have a very high paying job.

    9. I got 7 canucks making the trip with me :D I can't wait.

    10. I'd love to go! :)

    11. I hope the dates don't conflict with Yaoi con (Sep. 12 -14) since I would hate to choose between the two.

    12. Dollism dates and location

    13. Darn, they are the same dates :(

    14. Hmm, haven't been to Yaoi-con since it left San Francisco, so I guess that's not such a tough choice for me! I am really looking forward to meeting people I only know online and seeing friends I haven't seen in years. :)

    15. I thought I was all set as well, but now it is back up in San Fran. Nooooooooo!!!!!!! Decisions! How I hate them.

    16. Oh no! I didn't see that. Well decision making time... I'm super bummed out. Thanks for the info Kcurry9.

    17. @Syndal_lynn Me and 2 others are flying from tampa fl to buffalo as well for dollism plus, im so excited, :)

    18. Oh awesome, hope to see you there! It'll be great to reconnect with some Ontario doll peoples!

Yes, I'm pretty sure she only went one year. That being said, I would die of happiness if she attended this doll con! The sound of my fangirl squees would surely reach the heavens, lol.

    19. I'm going! I got my hotel room booked and I'll do my plane flights soon. I'm hoping to vend in the artist's alley, so I'll be eagerly awaiting more information. :D Thanks mods for organizing this badass event!

    20. I would totally go to this!!!
are there any room share opportunities?
is there a place we can register yet?

    21. Is there any info on how to apply to be a vendor? (and vendor/table fees?) I went through the thread and am not finding anything (maybe it's too early for that info yet)

    22. It is still too early, as details are not fully finalized. There will be an announcement whenever we have more information!

    23. Thank you very much for the info :) I will keep an eye out!

    24. Does anybody know when the vendor reservation will start? I'm afraid I'm going to miss it.

      ----------------------------

Oops, I found that somebody already asked similar question. I will just keep my eyes on.

    25. This is so exciting and with so much time to plan (and save money) I hope to make it!
Thanks for the information, can't wait for more!

    26. wait we can get hotel rooms now?

    27. You can reserve a hotel room yeah, but it won't be the block reserved for Dollism (which we are still waiting on).

    28. This is the same weekend as Yaoi-Con...now I have to make a hard choice! :(

    29. The preliminary proposal for vendors has been completed - Dollheart and Mint on Card have contacted several Asian companies directly and I will be contacting several non-Asian companies this week. If you would like to receive the proposal because you're thinking of being a vendor, please email me at [email protected] and I will send it to you. :)

We have the room block secured and will be setting up registration within the next few weeks.

      So excited! :)

    30. :D :D :D So exciting!!! I may buy my badge and train tickets all at once!

    31. I'm hoping to be able to save enough to come. If not, it's looking like the Volks Tea Parties all over again.

    32. I'm afraid my doll purchasing may have made Dollism a no go for me ;-;... but ... dolls I have EVERY day at least.

    33. My problem is cut hours at work. Bills first.

    34. My problem is doll purchasing also. Not sure if I'm going to make it this year, but if everything goes well I should be able to make it in 2015

    35. :D Can't wait to be able to register and reserve hotel space! Its going to be amaaaaazinggggg! <3 <3 <3

    36. Same!! I've been so excited for this. My mother is taking me on this trip as a late birthday present :D Can't wait to see which doll companies are going to show up

    37. Oooh, perhaps I'll ask the parents for some cash for MY birthday instead of anything silly so I can put it into this? Haha! I can't wait to see, either!! If this convention is even half as amazing as the previous Dollism's seem to have been... it will be absolutely friggin' fantasmic and worth every cent... 8D Eheheh.

    38. i cant wait. Does anyone know if or when the hotel will be reserved?

    39. So exciting! I send you an email, Armelia! :) I would love to attend as a vendor, it would be my first time travelling to the US, and what better excuse than dolls, dolls and more dolls? :D

    40. I'm so sorry, I just noticed that the dates in the original announcement are incorrect - the event is actually the following weekend, September 19th-21st. I'm not sure why this was not accurate. ._.

I have sent the proposal to everyone who requested it - please email me if you did not receive it.

    41. Well. That really sucks for those of us that already got hotel reservations.

The photos in the proposal look amazing though! They have me lots of idea for my booth, thank you.

    42. ^^ I think that this far in advance it is still safe to move a reservation without penalty, hopefully! Fingers crossed for everyone!

      >>-- just updated the thread title to reflect the accurate dates.

    43. Oh, the date changed, that's marvelous! The last time I heard any news on this, I remember it was around 13 September, which was a less optimal weekend for me. Still going, but less optimal, and now more optimal, win!

Now, will the opening of the hotel block, etc., be posted in the News thread? That's where I tend to look for news relating to this, so early out and all. :sweat I saw the update on the date today, which is very exciting, and I can't wait to hear even a preliminary list of who's going to be there on the vendor side! The fact that it's now just a couple of days before my sister's birthday is boundless excitement as well! :)

      .hlp

    44. Looks like the vendor's hall will be open from 8am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. O_o That's pretty brutal for the vendors!

    45. I received it as well, thank you! Though I don't know if I can go now, with the price of the booths, I'll have to do some serious calculating to see if I could afford it..I'm also a little afraid now that mainly larger companies will be there and it will be difficult to notice smaller artists. But I do really want to go! Hmm..*gets out the calculator*

    46. I'm torn too! I'll have more time to socialize (and to sleep!) if I don't go as a vendor, and I won't have to destroy myself spending the next nine months trying to make enough jewelry to break even on expenses. I've really been looking forward to doing this though, and I am not sure how I feel about just having a room sale on Friday night.

If the booths are big enough that smaller vendors can split them, that will help! I'm waiting to hear back on what the actual physical table measures.

    47. I'm actually VERY happy with the date correction! I had just realized that that weekend was the same as another convention I attend every year (also on the East coast) and was weighing which one I should go to. Now I'm going to attempt both, maybe just spending the days in-between on the East coast and sight-seeing!

    48. I agree, it would really help if smaller vendors could split a booth! Or maybe if there would be smaller booths available too, a sort of 'artist alley' for smaller vendors, but of course that is up to the organization and if they feel they'd rather focus on the bigger companies, that's fine too! For me, if I don't go as a vendor, I can't really justify going at all, with the price of flights from the Netherlands to the US and all..but I'll have to see how much I would have to create/sell to break even and if that is realistic.

Could you let me know when you hear back about the table measurements? :D That would be a great help!

    49. Really wish the dates had been updated before I turned in my vacation paper (that I got back yesterday). Thankfully I can still go, but it'll be at the end of my vacation week instead of the beginning. I wanted to have all week to play with my pretty new doll things puu~ But I would've been sadder if I couldn't attend at all so I'll take what I can get :aheartbea

    50. In my email Armeleia said the booths are 8' x 10', and can be split. Too big for me, I was hoping for something like an artist's alley too. I hope the size doesn't turn off too many people 'cause I was really looking forward to be able to buy stuff from fellow DoAers as well as larger companies.

    51. Is there a website somewhere that has all the info...I've not seen anything or have they not made one yet?? Oh do we have to email someone with interest as a vendor? I didn't see any of this posted anywhere. good to know you can split with someone.

    52. Kitty Blue, here's the vendor info, it was on the previous page.

    53. Again, I am so sorry about the dates. Tbh, I am both confused (I also have asked off the wrong week...) and mortified by the mistake. I feel awful for having caused anyone any inconvenience. :(

Re: vendor tables, I checked with Pasu Lau and he said that booths could be split in half, but any more than that would be too crowded. If you're thinking you'd like to split, please let me know and I'd be happy to try to match you up with someone else and get that coordinated.

If you're a tiny US doll artist and you're thinking you'd like to be represented at the con, please let me know. I'm saying this as a vendor myself rather than a con staff member. If I get a booth, I'd love to advertise for my fellow artists!

I'm also working on the programming and registration information - if there are any things that you really want to see, please let me know! I am in a position right now to try to custom-build the perfect con! I am planning to have a few contests (costume and hopefully an extreme modification contest at least) as well as a mini "speed triathlon" based off of DoA's annual triathlon! Then there will be a few workshops (faceup, seeing, photography) and a bunch of discussion panels and mingling events. I'm trying to get everything written up so that there is more than a bare-bones page for registration. I would love your input, so please feel free to send me your ideas at [email protected]! I really want this to be an awesome, fun , successful con so that we can have others in the future. :)

    54. not really, a bit long on Sunday but then there are no Friday hours, so it evens out. thus making it pretty normal for a con.

(has worked a ton over anime cons as a vendor)

    55. thanks Armeleia for all the hard work your doing! I'll look forward to an update of when we can start registering and the hotel info so we can book a room.

    56. lol I am so used to working anime con artist alleys that usually require you to be there from 9am to midnight that those hours seem short to me.

hmm I have to see if the new weekend actually works for me

    57. Well, that puts it in perspective! Very different from the sorts of trade shows I usually attend. :sweat

    58. I can imagine trade shows have much kinder hours. My first comic con artist alley experience was so crazy. Wait, you mean, it closes at 6? We can eat dinner?

    59. I am wondering with registration open of you will be taking volunteers. I live in Buffalo and would love to help get every thing together, I think there are a few of is here that would!

    60. So, I've been talking with Eva and we're way down here in Florida. She brought up an excellent thought. Those of you who are considering vending (especially those who are selling dolls) how are you planning on getting your items to the convention, cost effectively?

We haven't decided if we're driving on flying yet, but flying is certainly faster... though driving would allow us to bring a lot more to the convention. If we do end up flying, is shipping her dolls and items out there something to look into? Should we pack the dolls into luggage (disassembled and bubblewrapped as if they would be going into the mail), mark those suckers as fragile and check them (kind of a scary thought D8 but I'm tossing all options out there!).

Any other thoughts or options that anyone else may have? :) Nothing is definite for us yet but having all the information makes decisions easier to make! <3
