Dollism USA Dollism Plus US presented by DoA, Dollheart & Mint on Card - Sept 19-21 2014 ...

Jan 23, 2014

    1. I purchased this large purse I tend to use to carry my minis in. but if I decide to bring all of my dolls, my work sells this rolling duffle bag I think the SDs will fit into. If they don't, I'll just return it since I have no need for it. But I love the duffle bag idea for the soul sake of I can put what I purchase/bring/etc. into it too without the extra weight.

    2. I like to hold my dolls in my arms at conventions. They can get heavy and awkward, but it is so much better than trying to fight a crowd with a stroller or wagon, they're easier to show off, and I take up a lot less space in general that way which is also good in crowded spaces. If they get too heavy, I leave them in my room.

If I'm looking for something specific to fit a certain doll, I've learned the hard way that it is best to bring the doll or at least the hands and feet (and ankles if it is a particularly large or hard to fit doll) so I can try things on.

    3. Nashville is an extremely long drive from Buffalo, imo. I've done CT to Nashville, took two days. For you it would be about 11 hours, 700 miles each way. Around $90 in gas each way if your car gets 30mpg, likely tolls too, sharing a ride would be a great idea. Round trip flights on US Airways from Nashville to Buffalo with one stop are $419.00 on US Airways with Travelocity. Something to think about. Good luck. See you there. Hugs!

    4. Thank you, celis814 for your kind words. I've driven to/from Virginia/DC area but it gets boring to drive by myself. I haven't ruled out the planes. I would be super depressed if I can't make it to this event.

    5. I have a inexpensive collapsible umbrella stroller that I've taken to conventions with no hassles. I can sit two 70cm resinoyds and then two SDs on their laps and strap them in fine. That's what I'll be using.

I've also carried around one SD doll around sitting on an arm, and if my arm gets tired, they sit on my messenger bag. ;)

    6. Good info. Does anyone know if you get in/out privileges?

    7. I'd wanted to bring my 2 biggest SD's (68cm) but after just a short walk to a park near my house, a 2 hour photo shoot and the less than 10 minute walk home... I was convinced I was lugging along a 50 pound bag of wet cement instead of the dolls. And in light of that learning experience I'll probably be limiting myself to a max of 3 MSD's especially since I'll be on multiple types of transit (a bus and 2 different trains) to get to the con.

    8. LOL! yea, I hear you. I'm mostly bringing Yosd sized - or smaller, MAYBE 1 MSD. As I'll have to deal with planes, plane change AND then also bus/taxi/etc.My poor SD's are going to stay at home!

    9. Sadly... Pele needs shoes. My Dark Elf Soo needs shoes. My Sabik needs shoes... since the shoes I ordered for him have been stolen. My incoming vampire Shiwoo needs shoes. The only dolls that do not need shoes are my little gems and teenie gems, because they have fantasy feet and don't wear any shoes. So instead I'm going to have to improvise some way to carry a big doll that doesn't involve holding them in my arms.

    10. When I shop for shoes for my Trinity, I carry a cardboard cutout of her foot. If it fits nicely inside the shoe, I know the shoe will fit her foot. Might be worth trying for smaller dolls, too?

    11. elf-ears: I was also a little worried about safely transporting them since I currently don't have a doll bag big enough for them (I have one on order though). AND I have a layover when I switch trains at the border and would need to drag along my clothes bag, doll bag and purse while I wait for my connecting train and doing that with the big boys really doesn't thrill me all that much.

Layn: Somebody earlier in the thread said that they're bringing feet as they have a bunch of dolls that require shoes but not nearly enough room to bring all of the shoeless ones. Perhaps you could do that for your big doll if you wanted to try and save your arms some exhaustion and not schlep him/her around.

    12. Nah, I don't mind dragging them around with me. I hope to convince mom to drive most of my big dolls to the hotel so I can go back to the hotel room and swap them out as I find shoes for them, so I won't be dragging many dolls on a bus, train, or plane with me if I can't drive there with her, and I don't plan on carrying more than one big doll at a time.

    13. I freak out over Elf ears too, I won't even travel with my Sapphira (and his ears are removable)...but, I went to Doll-A-Kon in June and brought my FL F60 nanuri12b with me, she's got longish ears. I just wrapped her head in clothes (mine) and put her in my massive "purse" that can hold two SD sized dolls....She made it there and back in perfect shape!

She's not going this time around. She might have made the trip but I freaked out about her the whole time XD Too much stress!

Human ears only for this group.

I have a doll bag that can hold a few dolls and other stuff I'll probably use to drag them around. I can carry one, and a couple tinies or minis can go in the bag. I won't drag around more than that at a time....again, too much stress! And who can shop with that many dolls in the way D:
