Dollism USA Dollism Plus US presented by DoA, Dollheart & Mint on Card - Sept 19-21 2014 ...

Jan 23, 2014

    1. I've a question for a Buffalo local. I'm coming/going by train (from/to Canada). There's 2 stations serviced by Amtrak in Buffalo, Depew and one on Exchange Street. I think the Depew one is closest to the con site (according to Google maps) and the one for me to book for, but I'd like confirmation from someone in the know on this, please. It would be greatly appreciated.

    2. -Hey, if I can play MTG anyone can, I'm very bad at it lol XD
-Ohhh PJ party, sounds like fun :D Cards against humanity is always fun ^_^

-Same here, I have only a couple of states lol

-Ohhhh! I'll have to ask my hubby is he has any with artwork done by you! That's really cool!

      -MTG game night ;)

-I hope to get lots of street passes from places I haven't got before!

-Sure! It's pretty cool what you can do with them :3

    3. Yay my MOO cards shipped today :-) I went with normal sized cards so I could fit more info on it. Got a pack of 50 so that should be enough. I can't wait for September to get here already~ Work has been stressful so it'll be nice to attend a fun event.

    4. Exchange Street is much closer.

    5. Thank you! Now to go book my tickets.

    6. I agree that exchange street is much closer. I'm only.. a block away from the Depew location--and it's about a 20 minute drive to the convention site from here. [It's really not that bad, but if you'll be taking the bus or taxi, it'll cost ya.]

    7. The tickets from the Exchange Street station are also cheaper, which makes my wallet happy. And yes, I'd be doing a cab thing so less distance to travel is good for my wallet. Thanks again.

    8. I'm going too and I'm so excited . Traveling by bus to it. Can't wait for the Adventure to begin.

    9. I'm getting really excited to see everyone - there are lots of people I feel like I've known forever online but have never met who will be there, plus some of my local in-person friends as well!

I think I need to start working on cards to take... I'm hoping lots of people will have them, I think it would be really fun to collect/trade them and put them in a book along with photos of the 'Con.

    10. Were you doing the "Moo" cards, or just making your own? I was tossing the idea around, but I'm not sure if I am going to do it or not.

    11. Sorry, what kind of cards are you talking about? Like business cards?

    12. I've seen a few people doing Moo cards, and I was looking into them, but I haven't decided for sure, yet. I can easily just print them at work, so I'll probably end up doing that. Probably standard business card size, since I do tons of those every day for other people they'll be quick and easy, just toss mine on a stack headed to the bindery and say "Hey, can you cut these, too?"

I'm thinking I want something with my DoA username, Flickr and Tumblr links on it, with doll pictures. I'm thinking they'll be a fun way to remember the people I met there. I'm debating whether to only put photos of dolls I'm taking, or some others, too.

    13. There's so many people that I'm looking forward to meeting in person at this con. That's half the excitement right there. I like the idea of the moo cards but I don't think I'd have the time to get that done when I have a good bit of doll stuff to get done first for the con.

    14. I got some but not all my dolls were pictured.

    15. That's why I'm balking at making any sort of calling-cards... I always wait until the last minute to decide which doll I'm bringing.

      And I'd never be able to decide which dolls to put on the cards, because I'd probably want to choose the dolls people know from DOA, and... there's so many.... ;;

    16. Yeah, I had thought I remembered you saying you could print yourself, so I thought you might. I can too and was thinking the same (and I can throw mine together at the last minute that way lol - which is how I roll), and have been thinking about doing it...but I'm having a hard time with doll pictures lol. Not sure anyone would want them. Or care....and I have no good pictures and no idea which ones I'd even want to use.

PLUS I already have a business card, which is totally up-to-date. Just without doll pics. It does have a drawing on it!

Well, again, I can always throw them together at the last minute if I decide.....

I would take pictures of any of your dolls!! The less they wear the better ;)

    17. Dude, you could fill up an entire Moo bulk-order with nothing but Alexes. xD

OK, so I'll keep that "less clothes better" in mind when I pack.... after all, less clothes = less weight to schlep all the way from California.

    18. Right? But who would want to see that?! Other than...no one wants to see that! XD

Good point! Why are my dolls such clothes horses?! D: I was planning on packing more for them than for me...

    19. I'm a fan of any or all dolls from both of you, LOL! And Rynn as well, we seem to have similar taste in sculpts! Also I know Caroline (my cousin, who is going with me) is a HUGE fan of Alex, so she'll definitely want anything you have with him on it in any form.

I think I'm going to just start layout on cards for each of mine, just for fun, then closer to time I can choose whether to print some or all or whatever. I definitely want something for whoever I take, but maybe others, too. Or groups. Or something!

    20. That we do! I want to do another order but need better pictures. and upload all at once. it seemed some got booted as I did it over time...

    21. Dollism is only 55 days away. Holy. Wow. I'm excited, but also so not ready.

    22. Aaargh!

We've not started planning and we will drive.

    23. Very excited! We do have the big stuff knocked out, though. Hotel, transport, all hammered and paid for. How are your room sale stock looking?

    24. Oh, wow. How long have the tickets been sold out? Mom has been putting off talking about getting tickets for months, and I just now realized that it's too late.

    25. Can tickets be purchased at the event? I'm unable to go but have someone flying to the convention on my behalf for Sunday. But they haven't purchased a ticket because we only just arranged this a few days ago. They did purchase a plane ticket to go though so I'm hoping there's some sort of ticket that is bought at the door. :sweat

Never considered the possibility of closing ticket registration.. :doh

    26. I think registration closed a few weeks ago. And there are only Saturday day passes available, nothing for the other two days. You might want to tell your friend to cancel those plane tickets...

    27. Oh my gosh, really?? :doh :doh That's super bad in my case..I hope that they will offer even mere vendor room passes for the other days. Definitely going to contact the e-mail address listed on the domain.

    28. Well, you can try, but it's been stated from the very beginning that day passes are available for Saturday only, so I don't know if you'll have any luck...

      From the registration page:

Anyway, in regards to room sales, if I've already registered and reserved a hotel room, is it still possible to sign up for them at the convention? I'm in the hotel, but outside the room block (unless that's been changed recently). I didn't sign at the time because the block was sold out, but then they were talking about expanding it... I have a few dolls I've been trying to sell, so I thought maybe I'd cart them along if they don't sell beforehand, but if it's too late to sign up for room sales, I won't bother.

    29. Ouch. Was there any advance warning for the fact that registration was going to close a few weeks ago, and I just missed it?

    30. I know it was mentioned in this thread before the actual closing, but I couldn't say if it was announced on the official page or not. I hadn't checked it lately.

Edit: It was announced on June 16th in this thread (post 746) that registration would close on June 30th.

    31. : / I was only watching the official page and the official page said nothing

    32. From what I last heard- full 3-day passes are still available and can be given for free IF you volunteer a few hours of your time to help out with the convention.

For those of you who missed out on registering, you can still get a badge for the full event by Volunteering!
      http://www.denofangels.com/dollism/?page_id=234

That was from post #860 by St. James. So you could look into that and see if there is any space left. I believe that'd be your only way to get a full 3-day pass at this point...unless you find someone who can't make it and buy their pass from them. I think it was mentioned that they were allowing that...but I am not 100% sure.

      Good luck!

And I really can't believe how fast time is flying by for this convention.
      I seriously can not wait!!!

    33. 55 days left? Oh wow, it seems far, but I know it'll fly by so quickly. I keep going over if I have everything ready for this trip...yeesh.
      I'm still super excited.:)

Edit: Okay, 54 days left since I posted it, one day has gone by. See? Times going too quickly. ;) Hahaa

    34. Come to think of it, on one of the sales pages on Facebook, someone has been attempting to sell their passes. Two of them, I believe.

Edit: She goes by Shuichichan on DOA.

    35. Don't know if Layn saw your post, Stormlight, but I PMed her or him the info!

    36. I did see it, but.. I thought that the badges were non transferable?

    37. Didn't they allow it? I know you an email and ask.

    38. They did also mention on Facebook that reg was closing a while ago. I only remember because I shared it to my page. Hopefully everyone who missed it can work something out! I know a few people who are volunteering.

    39. It did say on the original site too that "registration is open till 30th of June" or something. I just remember that because I didn't even go into this thread at the time, and it's the only reason I managed to get my ticket in time.

    40. I think someone else was able to transfer their registration/badge... Can't hurt to check it out! -- I think you can't just pass on your registration to someone else without informing Dollism--since they need to see identification when you pick up your badges--?? Something like that?

And look into the Volunteering angle!

I didn't hear any announcements about registration closing, but then I do tend to miss out on lots of notices (even though I check DoA nearly every day... *sigh* ). It's easy to miss things. :(

    41. Speaking of announcements, they just announced on their facebook page that workshop signups will be closing soon!

"ATTENTION! Workshop sign-up will be closing on August 4th! If you are interested in signing up for anything send us an email at [email protected] and remember to include your registration #! Thanks!

So if you're looking to sign up or get on a waiting list, you'd better get it in soon. I think most of them are full though.

EDIT: We're due for a new thread soon, so watch out for it to be made!

    42. And... I have tickets! So excited : ) see you there!

    43. Ahw, I wish there were conventions where I live too. :o

    44. Yeah, they're all full unless it's a first come, first serve one. I didn't take the faceup class, cause I must as I'd love to learn, I can't do it. I've tried and been made fun of so I decided not to try again. I didn't take the clothes making class cause my mother helps me with that. Only class I need is the picture taking one and with my luck, I'll get there when it's full and no room for me. Not that it really matters, I rarely take pictures anyway.

I wonder about that as on the FB page it changed...

    45. Does anyone know how I would go about getting only a Saturday day pass for Dollism Plus? I am not registered for the convention. Is it possible to just purchase a day pass at the registration desk on Saturday? Thanks for any advice.

    46. http://www.denofangels.com/dollism/?page_id=134

A single day pass is available for Saturday the 20th for $65.00. This pass can be purchased at Dollism Plus Registration at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saturday only, and cash will be the only accepted form of payment. A single day pass will give attendees access to the Vendor Room and Photo Staging Area’s only. Attendees with single day passes will NOT be able to participate in panels, workshops, contests, and other convention functions.

    47. Thank you for the info javasoy. Looking forward to it.

    48. I'm getting so excited for this! We have decided to drive to the event so this will be most interesting, but at least I don't have to worry about fitting everyone on a plane.

    49. Is there a thread for finding driving buddies to the Con?

I'm in Nashville, Tennessee, where Amtrak trains evade like a plague, so there are not many options to escape! Is fly or drive. The flight will limit the dolls I take with me. I'm wondering if there is anyone in the area who is driving up north to the event.

    50. Heh. Dollism is almost as far from me as it is from most people in Europe (the US is a big place)... but I'm still going! Isn't L-Doll closer to you?

But I do understand--it would be much nicer to live in the same place as a con, but sadly, that is a rare event for most everyone!

    51. Ummm

I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but does anyone know what the parking situation is like?

    52. Hyatt valet parking is $25 a night, but there is a parking garage across the street which is a lot cheaper. $7 daily rates. That's where I'm parking :)

    53. Thank youuuuu :aheartbea

    54. Yes....thank you very much for the info.

    55. How do you plan to carry your dolls around? In a bag over your shoulder? I'm thinking that a stroller would be nice since I could stack things in it.

    56. I'm planning on making a sling to carry my big dolls in. Normally strollers aren't allowed in conventions.

    57. There is an overnight charge if you park there 24-hour. Still cheaper than the hotel, though.

    58. depending on who I'm taking either my shoulder harness for an MSD, or a carry bag for an SD, if and its a big IF I bring my Lusion than I'll have to get a stroller, I'm not that strong to carry her all day..lol.

good to know about the parking.
