    1. What will the rules be for the costume contest? Will it be a make-it-yourself-from-scratch affair, or can it be put together from commissioned/store-bought pieces?

    2. Well the judges are the guests at the convention themselves. Most people will know exactly whether something was purchased or if it was hand-made and judge accordingly. Last year we didn't have a rule for it, but we certainly encourage it to be hand-made. It's just more fun that way. =)

    3. So what else will be going on at this Convention, exactly? :)

I've read about the Cocktail party (Yay!)...
      And special guests...
      And costume contest...
      The Music Video contest (Woot!)...
      Dealer tables (DOUBLE YAY!)...
      Photography panel...

What else is there to be going on? :)
Just trying to get a good idea of things I'd be interested in.

I'll probably try to enter something for the Music Video contest,
      I'm no good with costumes/sewing...
      And probably check out the photography panel. ^^;

I'd like to tour a bit of San Francisco, enjoy the California weather with dollies. :aheartbea
Maybe hang out with awesome DoA friends, if there are any that would like to hang out with me? ? :sweat

    4. If you look back through this thread, you can also see a list of panels and other programs.:)

    5. :( I hate to say it, but the Friday night cocktail party is now full. However, if we get an amazing number of more registrations, I'm going to talk to the hotel about whether we can get a bigger space for the party, so that we can include more people. So register early, register often!:D

    6. Should we expect that if we'd already registered (a while back at that), that we should be able to be in the party?

    7. The cocktail party just filled up this week, so you are fine if you registered prior to this week.:)

    8. Oh wow, I had no idea there would be a limit to the number of people going to the cocktail party. I must have missed reading about that one. I was hoping to go to that too and I signed up so super early for tickets. It would be nice to get a bigger room as you've suggested, if that's possible.

    9. If you registered early, then you are definitely on the list for the party.

I hope that we can get a bigger room, but will also need the funds to buy more food, so the more who register soon, the more likely it will be that we can have a bigger party.:cake:

    10. Excellent :D

Yes, it's been at least a few months since I registered night_x_walker and myself for it, so yay!

Now, to figure out who's going...we've um...kind of expanded the family since last year! *blush!*

    11. Looks like I gotta get my flight soon! ^^

      EDIT:
Gunsmith-Cat and I would love to do a panel. I haven't really read throughout this thread, but we'd like to do a panel on ABJD video stories.

    12. That would be great, especially since we having a video contest this time. Why don't you email me at [email protected] so that we can discuss it more?:)

    13. I am looking forward to being there too. I have my reservations and my sales table, and a vote for the costume. . . fantasy or historical. Should be fun.

    14. Oh that's great news Kellyhime...thanks for explaining that! I'm so looking forward to this event. I figure, the more the merrier for this type of event. How fun this will be!

    15. Is there a thread dedicated to finding roommates? A friend is interested in attending but will need roommates to afford the trip. Can someone pm me about it so I can pass it on to her?

    16. I had so much fun meeting everyone last year! And I can`t wait for this year!

    17. You might be able to find people in the meetup forum? I think that would probably be the best place. :)

    18. Costume Contest suggestion:
favorite character from fiction (movies, books, music, tales) which would include fantasty/historical fantasy
I also like the Steampunk suggestion.

    19. wooters! thankies!

    20. My sister and I have booked a two bed suite at the con hotel from Thursday night to Monday morning because we're taking the Greyhound into town (again)

We're looking for people interested in crash space for anytime during that time frame. you can spend the whole weekend with us or just a couple days, all you have to do is pay for the nights you spend with us

      PM if you're interested ^_^

    21. im super excited for dollectable :D Ill be taking the amtrak with some other girls from portland

    22. Can you tell me the difference between the vendor area and the artist alley? I make one of a kind couture and costumes. Where would someone like me belong?

      Marie

    23. Sorry for the delay, but I finally changed the poll to be for the costume contest. For some reason, I thought that I would have to have an admin remove the old poll and post a new one, but I discovered that I could just edit the existing one. I'll keep this one open for the rest of the month and announce the winning theme on April Fools Day!:)

    24. Aw, I can't vote, it tells me I've voted before (probably for the previous poll.)

    25. I have the same problem with the poll, says I've voted already.

    26. Hello;

Just looking for rules for my video contest please :) Or any information really at all

      Thanks

    27. It's telling me I've voted before as well. ^^;;

    28. Ugh! So it looks l can't remove this poll and post a new one in the same thread, so if you don't mind not being anonymous, please just vote in the thread. Thanks for your patience!

    29. One vote for Steampunk!

    30. Well, the poll is telling me I've already voted for Futuristic/Sci-Fi, but I'd prefer to see Steampunk. ;)

    31. One more vote for Steampunk.

    32. I know, the poll tells me I've voted for Historical, and that wouldn't have been a choice for me.

I wonder if there are any free internet polls out there? I've used surveymonkey.com before, but when you use the free version, you can only get 100 responses.

    33. I'll have to go with steampunk too. I'd love to see how those turn out and try to create one of my own :clover

    34. Hello everyone, this is Glenna from DollStories. At last, we will be opening for sales for the very first time at Dollectable '08!

We are so excited to be there, me and my brother & partner, Peter.

Can't wait to see everyone there!

    35. I was looking at your site - your girl is really lovely. If I collected 60cm dolls, I would really be wanting her. Are you planning on mini sizes ever?

    36. Thank you! Briefly, the answer is "yes"--I don't want to hijack the thread--but we'll be doing minis and tinies, eventually. First we need to create our SD13-sized bodies, and of course, more heads (especially boys' heads!)

      Thanks for your nice complement!

    37. Is the Hotel Sold out for the Convention rate? I can't seem to book a double room for under $179.00....

    38. You have to call and tell them the special code. There's instructions on the Dollectable page.

    39. The special hotel rate should be available until July 1st or until 100 rooms are booked, whichever comes first.

divi & Brennil and all the other vendors -- we don't mind at all if you "hijack" this thread to talk about the fun stuff you are planning for the con.:)

I'm sorry about the poll, everyone, but we had a Dollectable staff meeting on Sunday and one of the things that we talked about was the costume contest. It seems like Steampunk has gotten the most enthusiasm and is a very timely topic, so we decided to just go with it as the costume contest theme! So, get out your brass and gears!!!

Last, but certainly not least, I can announce another very exciting Guest of Honor -- Pasu Lau of Dollheart! Plus, Pasu will accompanied by representatives from Leeke, Dollga and Peakswood and they will have special merchandise for the con in the Vendors Hall! Pasu will be giving a talk about the founding of Dollheart and will be at the con all weekend to meet his fans. We are super excited to have Pasu and Donn as two of our GoH!:sumomo:

    40. that's awesome kelly :D i love dollheart. I can't wait til July

    41.
    42. OMGosh fantastic news, Kellyhime! I do have a question about the costume contest - are you allowed to do a pair of dolls in matching costumes, or just one?

    43. Ohy my Gosh~! So much exciting stuff going on. I sure hope I can make it to this years Con. I'm going to try my best. It sounds like sooo much fun~ Gah :)

      ~Meee

    44. Brennil - Multiple dolls would be just fine, but it would only count as one entry. I suppose that we should have a size limit like Volks did, so try to keep things contained in an 18" x 18" space.

Glad that everyone is excited! I certainly am!:)

    45. Excellent, thanks!

    46. Wahooo!! DollHEART! DollHEART! [IMG]

Mostly I wanna see what kind of shoes Pasu wears himself. ^^ I also wanna know how many kids he has, & if I'm putting *all* of them through medical school with my Dollheart-boot-fetish disorder.

And if he's bringing his cronies from Leeke and Dollga and Peakswoods (oh my!), then that means Super Mega Shopping Apocalypse Overdrive, and I had better start setting aside my own dealers'-room pennies NOW.

I can't wait to see all the steampunk contest entries we're going to get. :D This should be awesome!

    47. I am super excited! Dollheart Leeke and Peakswoods!I cant wait to see the special items! I am gonna be so broke afterwards!

    48. Iiiiee, how exciting!! I've already started setting aside cash to throw at these people. XD!

    49. I'll be lucky to walk away with any profit at all, given this lineup!

    50. This! XD Oh goodness I better start saving now.

I had a question about the photography contest- Is there any limit to how old the photo can be? Also, are we supposed to keep entries "secret", or can it be displayed anywhere beforehand?

    51. Like Astro I too have a question on the photography contest - the explnation of the frame was a bit confusing to me. is there anyway to see a picture of the proposed frame so I know what to look for?

    52. Astro - Photos can be old and it's okay if they were published before, but we are going to try to keep the contestants anonymous, so that the judging will be fair.

samcarter - For some reason I had a tough time finding frames online, but the kinds I am thinking of should be easy to find at any discount framers or office supply store. I think that the ideal ones would be the one-piece acrylic frames with built-in stands, but simple glass clip ones with a separate stand would be fine too.

    53. Okay! Thanks for answering that! I figured it was better to start working on an entry sooner rather than later, but I wanted to make sure!

    54. I got this steampunk clothing definition from good ole wikipedia - is this the type of fashion you are wanting for the costume contest?

"Steampunk" fashion has no set guidelines, but tends to synthesize punk, goth and rivet styles as filtered through the Victorian era. This may include Mohawks and extensive piercings with corsets and tattered petticoats, Victorian suits with goggles and boots with large soles and buckles or straps, and the Lolita fashion and aristocrat styles. Some of what defines steampunk fashion has come from cyberpunk, and cyberlocks have appeared being used by people adopting a steampunk look.

    55. I have a question about display tables. I read somewhere that vendors will be given one table. I will have an 8 x 11 corner booth, and I'd like to have two tables in the front, and one on the side. Do you think the hotel might be able to provide two additional tables for us? Even at an extra charge? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

    56. how does one vote in this new poll? It says I've already voted and I haven't yet.

I work in a vinatge clothes shop and sell tons of stuff right to Japan for the steampunk look. There is the human fashion style and the kids anime costume style. Bloomer with corsets, top hat and goggles...mix in combat boots and bussles for human wear. The anime style is more cartoony and home made.
If I'm going to put alot of time and $$$ into a costume I'd like it to be something that isn't so trendy in the short term. Steampunk will go the way of Loli: burn bright and fast and then fizz.... and I'll be bored looking at it. With an historic theme Steampunk as well as dozen of other trends could be covered. Just MHO

    57. If things are like last time, you'll have two tables in a corner booth, one on each of your open sides, and an open space behind for your chair and whatever else you bring along. Think of the tables as an L shaped counter that you stand or sit behind.

chinamoon: The theme has already been decided, so the poll isn't important anymore.
