    1. Please be sure to check out my post in the news area about next year's Dollectable.

In order for us to finalize the contract with the hotel, I need to have a rough estimate of how many people plan to stay at the hotel. If you could take a moment to respond to the poll, I would really appreciate it. Please only respond to one poll in one forum, so that I don't get duplicate results.

Also, please feel free to post any comments or suggestions here. We consider Dollectable to be a BJD convention that is "by fans for fans", so this con is a much yours as ours and we want to hear about what you want!

I'm really excited about next year and can't wait to see all of you!!!

      Kelly

    2. i'm so excited that there is going to be another dollectable next year. my husband and i had an amazing time this last one. it was so worth the travel. i'm hoping to drag one or two more people to this next one. i can't wait to hear more about the 2008 convention.

    3. um, YAYAYAY.

      that is all for now.

    4. I live in Marin and I am just too too excited that I can easily commute to Dollectable next year. Thanks so much for holding it in San Francisco this time around! :) It's a fantastic location, especially for conventions. It's impossible to run out of things to do there.

    5. I, too, am delighted to know that there will be another Dollectable next year-- I had a wonderful time at the last one, and this only promises to be better. I'm looking forward to more updates!

    6. hmmm. I'm sorely tempted. I have a sister in Sacramento I could crash with...

    7. I wasn't able to make this years convention, but I might try for this next year if timing and monies work out. :) I've always wanted to go to San Francisco. :D

I might have suggestions and questions later, but for now, I can't think of any. :)

    8. I am so there. This year was really fun and I look forward to an great experience next year as well. Hopefully there will be more clothing/wig/eye vendors. It is a very cool social experience and amazing to see so many BJD's in one place.

    9. I've been talking it up to everyone - despite my little difficulties, I had a great time. I definitely want to go again in 2008.

    10. I have to talk to a few friends before I commit to the hotel or not. I want to come next year, having missed this year because it was too close to another event.

    11. Wow! Thank you, everyone, for your enthusiastic responses!!!:fangirl:

I'm so glad that the date and location work for so many of you and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you!:D

    12. Kelly, I didn't make it this year but would love to attend next year. Is the registration limited? Is there a date cut-off to register? (My kids run J.O. track and the district championships are right around that time but I won't know for a few months what the exact dates are)

    13. We're projecting/hoping for about 500 attendees this time and since we had over 300 last time, that doesn't seem unrealistic. However, there should be room for even more and I think that it's very unlikely that we will have to limit registration. There will be good price breaks for registering early, but you will still be able to register at the door.

I hope that you can make it!:)

    14. I will definatley be there! Last year was so great that I cant miss this one!

I know this is wishful thinking, but I wonder if we could notify Araki about the convention and possibly he could have a display booth/shop. I know that they had an u-noa booth at the Japan expo in France, but I think that it might be too difficult to do something like that here in the US.

      I could possibly do it...

    15. I'm looking forward to going this next year. Probably 3 of us will be sharing a room...unless I can drag another 3 local doll friends with. We shall see:)

    16. thanks. I would never wait so long as to have to register at the door! I'm thinking more like march (early april at the latest) as soon as I find out the summer track schedule.
      M

    17. Wow! That's a great idea! Do you know Araki? If so, please write him and let him know about our con. We have our fingers crossed for one very special guest of honor, but it would be wonderful to have more.

      Thanks so much!:D

    18. Woohoo! Right down the street from our house! :D Okay, a long way down the street, but still...the transportation was definitely our biggest expense.
I'm looking forward to doing the restringing panel again! :)

    19. I'm heckkkkkaaaa gonna be there.

It was fun the first time, and I'm sure its gonna be even better this year.

      I'll be getting a small room. :D

    20. Really looking forward to it :)

    21. Yay! And we'll definitely give you two hours this time!:)

Glad that you can make it, Neon Addiction, and it was great meeting you the other night!

I certainly hope that you're looking forward to it, Katie.;) And I just realized that we should probably get some banners for our sigs.

    22. Ooh! Banners would be fun! I had learned about Dollectable last year right as I was getting in BJDs so it looked really interesting, unfortunately I couldn't go as it was too close to another event I had planned.

But this year I'm definately making way for it and hope to sign up early as well :D I probably won't be staying in the hotel since I live about an hour away x3 Definately looking forward to learning more information!

    23. We are most definitely going to work toward coming back to SF, this time for Dollectable! The 2006 yaoicon was really a doll con for us, so I know we will have even more fun at an official bjd con - yay!

I don't know if any of our locals plan to attend, but I hope they will consider it.

    24. I am looking forward to the return of Dollectable next year~!

    25. I was so disappointed we couldn't attend last year. We're definitely saving our pennies for 2008 though. It sounds like this years con is going to be fantastic.

    26. I'm glad that there will be a Dollectable '08! But now I have to stay in cali for a week because my second job is as a comic artist and I had already planned to go to Comic-Con which is a week later!! I hope to see people at BOTH conventions!

    27. I'm so glad that so many people are excited about Dollectable and plan to make it!:D

SporkNinja - And we're looking forward to you doing another molding and casting workshop!

JL_Anderson - We were worried about having it the weekend before Comic-Con, but it's a relief to hear that some are just going to make a California con vacation of it!

    28. I'll be there (no doubt) with one or two of my boys. I told my friends here how awesome the this year's Dollectable was and they're saving too. And I love this year's hotel choice! Sounds like a great location. I can't wait.

    29. Mmm, I can almost garuntee that I will be attending. o.o I wanted so badly to go this year, but alas I found out to late. So, I shall go next year. ^^ Hopefully I'll have at least two roomates, possibly more... and all my kids and all their kids (20+ in all. XD; ) :)

    30. glad to hear there will be another dollectable. im looking foward to attending it again.

    31. I'm waffling on coming, as I normally go to Anime Expo and can only really afford to fly from east coast to west coast once:

Did Volks show last year? And what are the possiblity of ordering an FCS at Dollectable? (one of the reasons I went to AX is to buy an FCS, and I wanted to do it again next year).

    32. last year was fantastic, JPOPDOLLS will be there for sure

    33. I look forward to doing another one! Hopefully with more and better examples this time. =^^=

    34. Yay! I'm so glad that so many people plan to attend! It's going to be a great con!

      pris84 - I'm really glad you can make it!:D

dechanique - Since Volks puts on it's own major events throughout the year, they don't seem to have the time to do other doll events or cons, so I doubt if they will be at Dollectable.

grael - That's great, since I've already had people asking if you will be back!

SporkNinja - Well, your workshops this year got great reviews, so I'm sure that there will be even more people who want to come next year!

    35. I'm so excited about Dollectable, feral5 and I will be coming in from Canada just for the con. :D I'm wondering though Kellyhime, will Dollfair be there again this year? I'm trying really hard to save up my money, and I'd love to buy a Narae or Narin if they're attending again this year. :3

    36. We got really good feedback from the vendors and I have a feeling that most of them will return, plus a lot more. Keeping checking here or our website for updates though.:)

    37. I was only able to come to the second day this year but I am looking FWD to spending the full weekend there and learn all that I can about my BJDs and trolling the vender's room. *shifty eyes*

    38. hey guys! it took me a couple days, but i finally got a letter mailed to Araki!

I told him that he is invited to be a guest of honor, and told him all the dates and the hotel location and it's website.

I asked if he would like to have a booth similar to the one he had at the Japan Expo.
I also asked for him to allow us to pre-order Latea and marion...

I hope that my G-mail account will not be treated as spam.

Does anyone know any good e-mail providers that support japanese text?

thanks! (and I will update with any information I get!)

    39. urm,

was hoping to go again, but really, really hate driving in SF (we are sort of local - an hour away) -- will there be parking available at the hotel for attendees who don't stay at the hotel?

enjoyed this year's a great deal!

    40. I may drive up with Mie'aga or fly...depends on how much time I get off.

      -Anneke

    41. Super!! I could only attend Sunday this year -- next year I'm marking the calendar and NOTHING is going to prevent me from being there every minute. I have attended lots of conventions in another venue, (teddy bears) and I have to say I was really impressed by the professionalism, level of vendors, and most of all, the wonderful workshops I attended. (BTW -- if you could twist Kallisti's arm to teach again, I would love it!! She did a great job). I'm so thrilled!!

    42. I believe this year will be closer to public transport.. at least, I will be taking BART from Fremont and figuring out how to navigate the city from there :)

    43. I went last year, too, though only on Saturday. I figured most of the events would go on that day. Of course, when I walked into the dealer's room, I was in for a huge culture shock. I didn't think that women who were older than my mum would be at the convention as well. I'd have to give Mum credit for not laughing outloudly, when I abruptly stopped talking to her on the cell, as I looked around in shock.

As for Dollectable 2008 being at the Holiday Inn, all I can say is THANK GOD!!! :D I'll confess that I was worried that you guys might choose the Marriott Hotel, across the street from the Metreon. I was like, "anything but the Marriott. Anything but the Marriott." The reason why I'm saying this is because my business held an event at the Marriott, and the food wasn't that good. The waiters served our soup, it was either lukewarm or cold, and when I told the waiters what was wrong, not one of them understood a word I said. Kind of goes back to the Avenue Q bit where some busboys should learn to speak English. :sigh

Anyway, it's great to hear that the convention is underway for next year. :)

    44. Thanks so much for doing this! Let's hope you get a good response from him!:D

patl - There is a secure parking garage right in the hotel!

LLeaf44 - Oh, I definitely plan to do everything I can to get Kallisti to do more panels!

calalillith - As the time gets closer, I'll be posting full directions. The hotel is very easy to get to and there are a variety of routes ranging from speedy to super scenic.

crpsaiyan - That's one of the things I love about this hobby, that it has fans of all ages, but we all have a great time together!:aheartbea

    45. I'm looking forward to going next year and I am so happy it is in July. It means I can bring my kids and husband with me and take a mini-vacation.

    46. 07 was a blast, and we're looking forward to seeing all you guys again for Dollectable 2008! We hope we'll be invited back for 08! We may or may not end up with a large booth again depending on what the size limits are, lol, but expect something cool from us anyways, including a couple new lines that we'll have picked up by the time Dollectable 08 rolls around :)

    47. I'm looking forward to seeing the wares from Junkyspot again! They bought so much cool bjd stuff to Dollectable 2007! Alex

    48. It was great to have you there this year and, of course, you'll be invited back next year!:D

Liz will still be taking care of the dealer's reservations, so she'll be in touch with you soon.

    49. Wow, what a rockin' response from all across the continent! And already we get a random publicity-lead to entice Mr. Araki to come grace us with his presence?? Awesome. (And here I was beginning to wonder how we could possibly outdo last year's one-off-Bermann stunt. :D )

I predict that we will thoroughly outdo ourselves with variety and quality of vendors, panels, & guests this year. Kelly's master plan is amazing, and if we pull off even half of it, it will still knock you right out of your maryjanes.

Once we get the programming set up and registration's under way, I will be posting another Volunteer Call up here, so watch this space!

PS: In addition to being your humble volunteer-wrangler again, I will also be reprising my naughty-yaoi-slideshow panel for '08. It was such a gas to meet all of you brave souls who slunk into my darkened panel-room last year. This year, we'll see if we can get those catcalls to actually break the sound barrier.

    50. I would like to add that I think having the "tracks" for the panels is a really really good idea. Kudos to who thought that one up.

    51. We have Mercy to thank for that idea and she will be one of our fabulous leaders, along with Zagzagael, of the Photography track!:D

Still looking for track leaders for Customization and Everything Else.:)

    52. eeeeee! awesome! then we'll definitely get some cool stuff prepped for 08!

    53. I guess we need to start taking some new pictures! :blush :XD:

    54. I would love it if you brought some slim mini jewelry. I ended up selling my Miyu, and now I have no dolls to wear your stuff! It's heartbreaking.

    55. I'll do my best to prod naranjita. She no longer has a MNF to use as a model, so we've only got my fat Hewitt now. :hamster:
Quite a few of the more delicate things she makes for the small girls work for minis also, though. :)

    56. horray im glad mercy and zagzagael will be doing more photography panels. their panels were a couple of my favorites at the last dollectable

    57. Yeah mama. Like you need an open invitation? :love You have plenty of time to work on this one! Must have fresh meat! Come July, I dun wanna hear no excuses!

And for the rest of you lurkers in the pervy juicy-fruit grapevine we call ControversialDoll: come talk to me there, if you've got some extra-good yaoi pics you'd like to have considered for next year's slideshow. I won't post direct links here, but y'all know who you are. ;D

    58. I'm hoping to go. It depends on my friend, and if she wants to go, and i hope to maybe talk to a group of people surrounding Albany, etc to see if they might want to meet-up and go together! :) If so, we might be looking for someone to share a room with, as it's cheaper LOL

    59. I seriously hope to go next year. This year I used my fun money on carpeting ;) oh, and dolls.

      But next year!

And there's nothing like being right in the hotel, as far as I'm concerned.

    60. Yayyyy! I saw this and immediately told my hubby his mothers day gift to me was going to be money to spend at Dollectable!

I've already decided on reserving my hotel room soon. Problem is don't have many friends into the whole bjd convention thing. So I'll probably be in a room alone with my boys. So if there is anyone out there who would like share a room with me and Kirk and Spock feel free to pm. I don't bite I promise! lol seriously though I'd love to get to know someone thru pm's/messaging/etc and have a possible room price split so that I'm not completely cutting into my dollectable funds!
