    1. i'm not sure on the specific hotel, but most hotel rooms have at least 3 outlets (i'm assuming that's what your asking :sweat ). one in the bathroom and two on the opposite ends of the room for cleaning and customer convenience. *nods* :)

    2. Um, I was talking about the vendor room option, actually.

      :daisy

    3. Thanks for straightening all this out, Liz!:)

On Monday, I'll ask the hotel about both the layout and the power cords and let everyone know.

    4. Lol, I'll just have to make do with the hotel lighting...since I'm flying in from Hawaii, everything I'm bringing is going to have to fit in two big suitcases.
Except for Lue and the other resin folk I decide to bring of course! =D

I'm glad to know the tables will be covered, that's one less thing to take up valuable merchandise space in the suitcases. :)
Do you know if that will also include a cover cloth to put over our merchandise while the dealer's room is closed Saturday evening/night?

    5. That's another question I'll add to my list for the hotel.:)

    6. No, probably not. They usually just give you the one. When I'm working at conventions, I usually grab the extra blanket from my room and cover my stuff that way. Or bring an extra bed sheet.

    7. Any further info on the electricity add on?

    8. I heard back from the hotel yesterday and it was good news all around. The electrical hook ups are just in the walls around the perimeter, but the vendors can bring their own extension cords, so they don't have to buy those from the hotel (they still have to pay for the single hook-up though). I'll be sure to have gaffing tape to tape down the cords to the interior booths. The tables will come with burgundy skirts and white tablecloths and if we let them know, the hotel will provide extra tablecloths to cover things at night for free. :)

    9. Advertising Rates are now available!
      http://www.bjdcon.com/advertising.html

Advertising starts as low as $35. Please feel free to PM me here or e-mail at [email protected] if you have any questions. This is a great way to reach a large BJD audience! This advertising will appear in our programming guide book given out to all attendees. Please also e-mail me if you are interested in any other form of advertising such as inserts in the bags given out at the con.

    10. Hm... question! How many vendors will be accepting credit/ debit cards? Will credit/ debit even be something that can be used to purchase items?

      Thank you guys :D

    11. Well, I'm afraid to say Vitta Vera won't be, but I believe some vendors did last time. We did get a payment by paypal during the con that worked out all right, though ^^

    12. I'll be bringing a laptop and getting internet and power so I can take paypal as an option - I know that not everyone likes to carry big wads of cash, but I can't really afford to take debit or cc just yet. :)

Kellyhime: Thanks for the info! I'd appreciate a tablecloth, definitely.

    13. well paypal is as good as any plastic! :D ^^ Sounds super! ^____^ hehe

    14. I'll have paypal by phone as an option. It's pretty easy to do :)

    15. Just a heads up that you might not get cell service down in the hall. It's underground so you might have a little bit of trouble.

    16. Just a bit of warning, if many different user accounts use paypal through the same computer your accounts could get frozen by PP. A bunch of people at a portland meet up did that when we had a swap and several people had their accounts frozen and they had to go through hoops to get them functional again.

    17. Even though it's a hotel IP?

Hmm, maybe I can contact Paypal before the con, and let them know.

    18. i dont know about hotel IP's but it wouldn't hurt to ask PP first :D

    19. There was also a convention recently that happened at as well. They were doing pre-reg by PayPal and the amount of transactions looked suspicious. Not fun.

    20. This happened at BJD Con in Austin in 2006. A whole bunch of vendors had their accounts frozen, including my roomate and friend PamSD. I can't begin to tell you how much hassle she went through to get her account unfrozen. There was a serious concern that she wouldn't be able to access her funds for days and days. It all worked out but was a big problem.

If I were gonna sell (which I am not) I would NOT even attempt the PayPal from the sales floor thing, too many problems.

    21. Well I contacted Paypal, I guess we'll see what they say. I don't want to have my accounts and customer's accounts frozen! If I can't work out a guarantee from Paypal I guess I won't be doing it.

      I'll keep this thread updated.

    22. Dyrewulfe's is a cash only business as well.
I won't have a computer along, so no paypal either.

Fortunately the toys and such that I'm bringing aren't very expensive, most everything will be under $5.00, I believe.

Still, hopefully there will be a few ATMs close by...
maybe even one in the hotel lobby. ^_^

Lol, my bunch plans on doing a little shopping too! ;)

***I would appreciate an extra tablecloth for a cover cloth too.

    23. We'll just order an extra table cloth for each table. Then I don't have to worry about who ordered what. :)

    24. Sounds like a good plan! Thanks, Liz.:)

    25. That's a good point. If the reception isn't good, I'm sure we can work it out somehow. I know not everyone has that kind of cash lying around, so I want to make sure I can take credit cards if needed.

    26. This is only really helpfull if your a BofA member. There is a BofA branch about a block away from the hotel on Vaness. So if you want to get more $$ or deposit if your a member of that bank there is VERY easy acess. I Believe there is also a Wells Fargo on Vaness as well but I don't think its within easy walking distance.

    27. Yes theres a Wells Fargo atm AND branch on the same block as the hotel on the California Street corner - really convenient. Think theres even a starbucks in the branch!!! Alex

    28. No problem, I just wanted to give you a heads up. :)

    29. Has anyone contacted DoA about advertising on their site this year?

    30. I don't know if it's in the budget. Kelly, Katie and Danny would know better about what the budget will allow. :)

    31. Vendors, if you aren't already taking credit card through an online payment gateway like Authorize.net and etc, but you do have a paypal merchant account, look into Paypal's "Virtual Terminal". It'll let you run credit cards directly, costs about $20/month (but you can cancel it if you don't do alot of cons), and you shouldn't have to worry about accounts being frozen and etc due to suspicious activity.

    32. Now that all the background stuff for Dollectable -- registration, hotel, vendors, advertising -- is up and running smoothly, we can all start thinking about the fun stuff! First, I'm very pleased to announce our first Guest of Honor (drumroll please):

      Donn of Bishounen House!

I'm sure that a lot of you are fans of Donn's gorgeous BJD and now you will have a chance to meet the artist himself. Donn will be doing a panel about sculpting BJD and will have a special display area where you can also place orders with him for your dream boy. I want to thank dannyboy, our patient Treasurer, for scoring this fabulous GoH!

Now, it's time to dig out your camera or sewing machine and get started on your Contest entries!

Video Contest -- For the first time this year, we will be having a video contest (thank you for the great suggestion, Lizzegirle)! There will be two categories, Music Video and Stop Motion Animation. Entries must be no more than three (3) minutes long, in .avi format and no more than PG-13. One entry per person. We will be screening all the videos on Saturday when the attendees will be able to vote for their favorites and then announcing the winners and showing their videos at the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. Applications for this contest must be received by June 18, 2008 and can be sent to [email protected]

Please include the following information with your application:

      Your real name:
      Your badge name:
      Title of the video:
Music Video or Stop Motion Animation
      Length:

Please do not attach your video to your application email. I will contact you later to make arrangements to get the video so that my virus blocker won't eat it.

Costume Contest -- Back by popular demand! However, while last year the con staff chose the contest theme, which was anime, this year, we want YOU, the attendees, to choose the theme. First, please start throwing your suggestions at us in this thread. Then, next week, I will put up a poll with the suggestions and let everyone vote. The poll will be closed on March 20th and the theme announced, so that everyone will have plenty of time to work on their costumes.

Photography Contest -- With so many wonderful submissions last year, we had to have this contest again this year. However, since we are expecting even more submissions this year, we had to put a few more guidelines in place. Please read carefully:

      One (1) entry per attendee
      Photo Size: 8" x 10"
Frame: Plain glass or plastic with metal or plastic side clips or a plastic one-piece frame with a built-in stand.
      Must bring own stand

There is no need to register ahead of time -- just bring your entry to the Display Room on Saturday morning (time t.b.a.). This time, we will not only have our wonderful panel of photography experts, Zagzagael, Mercy and Lizzegirle, awarding a Judges' Choice, but we will also be opening up voting to the attendees for People's Choice awards.

Please keep checking this thread for more announcements about other Guests of Honor (we've got some fabulous ones lined up and just inches from confirmation), Programs, Charity Raffle and more!:sumomo:

    33. Sounds awesome :)

Suggestion for the costume contest: elves/fairies

And a request: please, please, please hold the screening of the videos after the sales floor has closed. I really want to see those XD

    34. Suggestion for Costume Contest: Steam Punk

I love that style and don't often have an excuse to dress my kids in it. XD

All the new information sounds superb!! :D I am justitching for July!! :D

    35. Steampunk would be my vote as well - you can do steamy elves and fairies, too!

    36. A couple of questions about the photo contest -

Photo Size: 8" x 10" - that's the actual photo and not including any matting, correct? Do you want the image matted or not?
Frame: Plain glass with metal side clips - can they be the plastic clips if you cannot find metal ones?
Must bring own stand - are you talking about a table stand or a floor stand?

    37. Great suggestions already, everyone. Thanks!:)

bakayara onna - I should have specified no matting, so the print should be 8" x 10". Plastic clips are just fine and just a simple table stand (one of those hinged, coated wire ones or something similar).

    38. I agree with steampunk! I will be there ^_^

If not, how about video games?

    39. Thanks for the clarification!

    40. does it have to be a glass frame? last year i used a plastic one like this one (except it was 8x10 size). if not ill have to remember to pick up a glass one before i head down there.

    41. That's actually perfect! Plus, the price is good. We don't want people to go broke on the frames, but we wanted them to be simple and uniform, so that they wouldn't distract from the photos.:)

    42. awesome :D i'll just re-use the frame i used last year. thanks

    43. That's great about the plastic frame! I was concerned about air travel with glass but these acrylic frames would travel quite well, even in checked luggage!

    44. Suggestion for costume contest: Historical or Historical Fantasy

    45. That is an excellent point. :)

    46. Seconded! I very much like this suggestion. :)

    47. I'm with the historical vote also.

    48. And if you forget, or can't find one: when you get here, you can hop over to the nearest Walgreen's or Rite Aid drugstore and probably find something cheap. There's also a Blick art-supply shop 1 block away from the hotel, which would probably have something suitable. There is even a Fox Photo camera shop further down Van Ness Ave, for those with more esoteric demands (or, for those who get too giddy and accidentally drop the memory-card in the toilet ^^).

Those little acrylic dealies are just perfect. Basically, anything 'no frills' for the contest. We wanna see your illustrious work... no fancy framing tricks, just let it shine. :)

I cannot vote on the contest theme, but they all sound fab to me so far. I find that dollpeople always manage to blow the hinges off of whatever theme gets picked, no matter what it is!

    49. I'm so excited! I checked the scheduling and Dollectable falls between two of my local cons but doesn't overlap with anything!

I've already booked the hotel... now to track down a traveling/rooming buddy... it's a pricey weekend if you gotta fly.

Aside from finding a human roomie I think the hardest thing is going to be deciding which resin friends to bring. I sure as heck ain't checking ANY of my kids so they have to fit in carry on.... -le sigh-

As far as the costume contest...

I think the Historical/Historical Fantasy idea sounds AWESOME! That would cover steampunk (one of my personal fav styles) but still allow for some more variety. :)

    50. Hm, I don't see any reason why you can't make suggestions, so that our attendees can vote on them. So far, I'm loving all the suggestions though and can't wait to see the results!

aka_spooky -- So glad that you can make it!:D

    51. I like Historical/Historical Fantasy too. :)
Although I doubt I'll be sewing and entering any costumes. =D

Futuristic/Sci-Fi inspired costumes might be another interesting choice.
Especially if it included both SF books and movies.

aka_spooky- I'm in the same boat, trying to figure out who is going to get to come, Resin kind wise...
And who all is going to fit in my carry-on! ;)

I'm also going to be a vendor, so that's influencing my decision as well, particularly as to how many of the Resin folk I bring.

Say, those of you who are also vendors, how many of your Resin friends are you planning on bringing?
I realize a lot of them will be employed as models for your merchandise, but will any of your Resin friends be coming just because? ^_^

About the photo contest, will it have a theme as well?

    52. I would LOVE to come to a BJD convention! With the BART running to the eastern Bay communities, I can live up to my threats to visit my brothers. Oh, they'll have kittens if I infect their wives and children with BJD fever!

    53. I'm probably bringing everyone (four slim minis). Of course I have to bring Helly, since she's the face of HDS. It's in her contract! ;)

    54. forgot to Squee over this before...

      THAT'S SO COOL!

I hope he'll be doing lots of panels on casting and mold making -wink wink-

    55. where do we post looking for roommates?

    56. i've paypaled my pre-reg back in december but haven't heard anything back from the dollectable crew, is this normal?

    57. Yay! Thanks, Zag!

AJAngelique -- I think that it would be fine to post here that you are looking for roommates, but then people should respond to you via PM.

Your Paypal receipt is your registration receipt. We have one person handling online registration and she's a student and has a full-time job and just doesn't have time to send out individual confirmations.

    58. thanks for asking that... I was silently wondering too. I'm going to try to find someone local to travel and stay with but.... if I can't :)

    59. I expect I'll bring four 60cm, one 45cm, and one tiny. That's the max I can handle, since I'm flying in. *_* I only need 3 models, so some of them are definitely just because.

If sanity sets in, I may bring less though! XD
