Dollectable 2008 Discussion Thread - Program Schedule is Up!

hmm, I made reservations without a booking code. XD And I got the convention rates and everything. All I did was mention Dollectable when they asked me if i was coming/ staying for a convention.

 

EEK! I better think of something interesting to talk about

I so just can't wait for this event, the last one was such an excellent good time with plenty of wonderful things from every single booth! Everyone was so nice and the dolls people brought with them were so amazing!

my sister and i will be attending for the first time this year and we're looking for roommates. we'll be getting in Thursday; staysing friday, saturday and sunday and leaving monday. anyone interested?

We're planning on making the reservation in January. The more the merrier. Getting a two bed and can hold up to 5 people. More if you don't mind impersonating kindling. Have fit 8 into one room before.

I think i totally missed you last year...or I saw you..and had no idea it was you. XD
I wanna go again! I had such fun last year. Met so many new people. And everyone was so nice, it helped alot cause I was so shy, and I arrived late, and urgh..I thought people were gonna...well...ignore me. XD
But they didn't. 3 I felt accepted. Its a great feeling.

Anywho...I wanna meet you next time Dink!! And hopefully my School C will get his body back so you can see him again. X3

 

Don't worry. XD you'll probably end up holding someone's doll for any length of time before you leave.

My back was broken last year... I sorely regret lugging around all six of my dolls all day. Next time...I'll leave some of them on a table to model for someone. and carry the lighter/better dressed boys. lol

Hahahaha! At the last SF meet I went to, I basically carried Aquaspirals Cherish doll with me everywhere xDD Heh, I'll probably have another doll by then. Most likely a YoSD, considering I love virtually every one I see ._.

And I'm sorry that happened ; 3; I'll carry a doll for you if you're knees start to crack, kay? xDD​

 

V chan and I are bringing all her dolls and at least half of mine.. XD I'm not quite sure how I'm going to carry everyone!! We're coming from Florida, so its not like we can even bring strollers or anything *laughsnort* XD;;

I still have to totally figure out what dolls I'm bringing! o___o! I have 12 now, possibly 13 by the time I meander my way out there... XD; They are never all going to fit on our carry on luggage! lol!

 

We're looking at getting one of those toddler wagons. I got some big boys to lug around and I'd prefer to not leave them secluded up in the room

A toddler wagon? Sweet! My friend and I have strollers that just barely hold all our kids these days. ^^;;; I bought a pram not long ago... but it needs some serious renovation!

If there was a scale replica sports car that could hold our dolls, it would be EXACTLY what I would want to push their little buts around in.

...this gives me horribly scary ideas.

 

I'm going to just do a lot of bicep-curls and military presses and carry 'em barehanded. I got a serious workout carrying a Yukinojo one-armed, all over Dolpa LA... my shoulder was numb by 3 pm, so clearly my deltoids need a little work.

Others recommend a baby-sling or Snugli type thing, but heck, those things hide your cleavage. What fun is that?

 

I'm kinda glad I don't have to worry about all this doll carrying or... --cough--cleavage.

Nah, I'll probably have a Tiny by the con, so I'll have a little gremlin hanging from my hoodie pockets or something D:​

 

I'm all registered for the con, and have my room reserved.
All that's left now is to make my plane reservations.

Any idea how late the cocktail party is going to run?
I'll be flying in all the way from Hawaii on Friday, and the flight that I'm hoping to book won't get in to San Francisco until 8:25pm.

I'll definitely be bringing Lucifer, and possibly two or three others.
I don't know who yet, but they will probably all be MSD sized or smaller.

Also, is anyone going to be there that knows how to wire and/or restring a Banji?

My friend gets awfully frustrated with Dante, her little Banji boy, because he doesn't hold poses very well.
Plus, he has a tendency to twist the lower parts of his arms and legs around and then bend them at weird angles. 0_o
I think he needs wiring more than restringing.

Anyway, if you are good at wiring tinies, and you're going to be at Dollectable, please pm me so we can arrange things!
I'll be happy to pay you for the service and the materials. ^_^

V chan and I are getting there early and leaving late soo if anyone is going to be around before and after the convention we'll be wandering the halls!

thats right between two large conventions for me- CON-vergence, and Kakkoicon, at which I'm organizing several fun BJD events. maybe I'll be able to go some year... I'd love to meet more dolly people and geek out!

 

same goes for me.. i got Anime Expo and the San Diego Comic Con.. of which Dollectable is the weekend before the latter.

tho' i won't mind the geeking out part.

 

We'll be doing the same. Arriving a couple days before and staying a few days after the convention and going to lots of different places around the city... I'm definitely looking foward to it. ^_^

 

I still need to register for thissssss! My dad doesn't know if he wants to come or not, but I'm sure he won't wanna pay 65 at the front. ._.;;

Hmmm. I'm only gonna carry one doll per day. I don't know how thats gonna work out though.

 

I've been waiting for sales table info for months now and got no notice of things opening, other than finding this thread. sadness

 

I REALLY want to go, but I won't know my money situation until after I get back from Japan in April. If I get into the JET program, I know I won't be going, but I'm not counting on that.

Each booth purchased comes with two (2) exhibitor badges [Artist Alley comes with one (1)] that can be used as general admission badges as well. Additional exhibitor badges can be purchased for $40 each. Please submit a registration sheet for each vendor badge needed.

We would like to have variety in the Vendor's Hall, so each company is only allowed to buy a maxium of four (4) booths. [Artists are allowed one (1)] Each vendor is required to show us a California Seller's Permit before retrieving their badges. Permits can be obtained by mail. I am so glad the troubles of last year didn't scare you off. It was great meeting you and I hope this year is a little smoother.

 

ooh i SOO want to go! The airfare wont be too much, my bf works for American Airlines so we get uber cheap tickets, but the hotel and cost of badge and food, and well... i'm sure i'm gonna buy LOTS of stuff. *sigh* Monies.

I'm hoping to volunteer to at least save on that side of it. *crosses fingers* I hope I get picked.

Still I'm excited at the prospect of going. ^_^

 

I am so bummed... I can either go to this in SF where I live or I can go to a dance workshop for 2 weeks in New York City... It is terrible when various interests clash! decisions decisions...

I'm definitely going to have to prioritize for this D: I need to buy my Bada a body before the event, and perhaps an outfit... Unless I find something for him their xDD Ugh, it sucks being 15. Job's aren't easy to find ​

 

I'm curious - what were the attendance numbers from last year, if you don't mind giving out that info?

 

Just a question about booth set-up. Since the floor plan says 8x8 booths may we set-up booth style by sliding the alotted table back and bring a second small table in to use in a booth set-up? I also have a backdrop for my booth. Is that permitted in the set-up?
Is there any skirtting/draping between or behind the booths?
I'll be bring period costumes done in all silk and a few other goodies to the show. Hope some will be in the mood for French delights.

Ok *cracks knuckles*

You can take up whatever space you like in your 8x8 booth. That means you can bring extra tables and chairs if you like. Your booth *HAS* to stay inside that 8x8 space though and can't go into the aisle. The booth will come with the two chairs, a table and table dressing, but that's it. There won't be any backdrops or dividers between the booths themselves. You are more than welcome to bring these things as long as they aren't harmful to the hotel's things.

We actually recommend that you bring some lamps to display your stuff under as hotel lighting is terrible and not at all helpful to the purchasing process. We can't change the lighting in the room (sadly).

If you need power hook-ups in order to run these lights, you will have to order them from me atleast a month before the convention.

Does this mean that there is still a separate space for a walkway between the booths in between the 8x8 allotments? My concern, as a vendor in the very middle of a row, is that other vendors will have to use part of our booth space as a walkway in order to get around someone occupying the entirety of their own space. It was already a bit chaotic last time without that kind of setup.
Also, are we allowed to bring our own power cords for lighting?

 

Well technically there wasn't a walkway last year, it's just that people didn't use that space so there was an artificial walkway. If people are using up all of their booth space, then my guess is that they will be out front of their booths. Also, the tables we provide also don't take up all of the booth. There should be plenty of space to move around either side.

Really, I have no idea until I get to the hotel and see how they end up setting it up. I asked for one thing last year, and got something different. Luckily it was pretty close to what I asked for. If we need to figure out a walk way of some sort, then we'll figure that out before opening when we have the tables and the booths set-up.

I think it's pretty sucky for us to say that you'll get 64 sq ft of space but then only allow you 40 or something. =/

As far as power cords, I think I'll let Kelly field this one. I don't know what her arrangement with the hotel is, I just know that those prices on the site are what we were given for those "extras" and most hotels put it in their contract that we have to rent their equipment instead of using our own. Kelly would know better about the arrangement we have with *this* hotel though.

 

I'd also like to know what you get with the electricity add on. One plug in? Two?
