    1. Thanks for the info KellyHime and JennyNemesis. :D

Someone mentioned a Japanese Festival (Obon?) earlier.. Will it be at a shrine or or someplace else in downtown?

    2. It's nice to eat out for dinner, see the cuisine of the area, but for lunches I have to really recommend hitting a local market and just grab some fresh stuff that doesn't require much preparation - so much better for you and also much cheaper!

    3. Then you will be very happy even if you don't make it to Japantown-- about a block away from the Holiday Inn, there is a nice Whole Foods market. With deli & cafe. I think the hotel-rooms come with fridges for leftovers, too.

Still, if you are doing the whole summer-vacation shebang, I would hike out to Fisherman's Wharf & get a whole cracked Dungeness crab from one of those noisy stands on the waterfront. :) Oh man! Nothing tastier!

(Except a sourdough-bread bowl full of clam chowder at Boudin's, that is very tough to beat. Clam chowder is also eleventy-six times cheaper than cracked crab. ^^)

    4. There's also Beverages & More! across the street, and they have LOTS of good snack-a-bles ranging from cheese and crackers, to proscuitto rolls, beer, wine, soda, water, candy, chocolate, coffee, etc, etc. I work at the one in Danville, and will surely be stopping in the Van Ness one to get some potent potables....

      Bevmo #71
      1301 Van Ness Avenue
      SF CA 415-447-8483
      10 am - 9 pm usually.

    5. Fridges! I really hope they have fridges.. I mean, they should, right? The web site says they have small wet bars in each guest room. =*.*=

    6. Mmmmm, clam chowder....

    7. It will be at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco at Pine and Octavia. The hotel is between Pine and California and if you walk three blocks west on Pine, you can't miss it.:)

    8. Boudin's sourdough bakery & cafe (look up any of their locations on a tourist-map) is one of the places that's so good that locals don't mind being seen eating there! ^^ I go to the one on Fisherman's Wharf when I crave the chowder; the perky waiters always greet you with, "Hi! Where are you folks from?" and I have to admit "Just the other side of that hill".

But y'know-- even I would be tempted to skip the clam chowder in favor of Japanese street-food at that Ginza Bazaar festival! W00t! And it's so close to the hotel.

@Dibei-chan, the Holiday Inn's website claims that there are mini-fridges in all of the room styles, so unless they're completely lying, you're in business.

    9. YAY!!1 Thanks you guys, you've been a big help! =^w^=

    10. YES! YES! YES! Please say they have BBQ squid on a stick again! :aheartbea

      I'll settle for takoyaki.

    11. Yeah... :drool... I am craving takoyaki more than Hokusai's Fisherman's Wife herself...

    12. OMG BBQ squid??? I WANT!!! hmmm I wonder if I'll have time to stroll by japantown while I'm up there.

    13. Takoyaki sounds very good right now. Two weekends ago, there was a special event at the Japanese Supermarket here and they had the best temp vendor for Takoyaki, they were soooooooo good.

      So tasty

    14. Hello everyone,

My name is Mizuki, I'm new at DOA, heard so many things about this place but never have the chance to come here.

PS If I'm not supposed to post this here, please let me know. And I apologize for trouble.

    15. is there by chance a jamba juice near by the hotel? since I'll be having my wisdom teeth out (in just 8 hours in fact) I plan on living off the stuff >.< Thanks

    16. the closest one that came up was off 16th street

      http://www.yellowpages.com/info-LMS52434697/Jamba-Juice/maps

good luck with the wisdom teeth (they're evil evil things)

    17. The Jamba website says they have one in the Union Square Macy's
And don't use straws! Suction is bad and can cause dry sockets so eat the smoothies with a spoon ;)

And I just found a decently priced last minute room at the hotel so I'm going to stay in a hotel in SF for the first time ever, haha. Beats taking the BART all way from Fremont though!

    18. We'll be stepping on the plane in a few hours. Looking forward to seeing old and new faces, both resin and human!

    19. I have a question about the photocontest entries - I see that the opening for contest entries starts at 9:00, but I was wondering how long we have to enter them... I wanted to know if I could wait until after the opening ceremonies to do it.

    20. Turns out I am going to be able to come, Whoo hoo. Even though I've had
a Bjd since last June I am still pretty shy and don't know many people yet.

Um I have a few dumb questions,
What do you usually bring with you ?

Are your dolls always with you ?
Or do you feel safe leaving them in the room?

Is it too late to register ? Do I just buy a pass
      at the door?

      Sorry for the newbie questions.

    21. While I don't believe that it has an actual juice bar, the Whole Food that is a half block from the con has bottled smoothies for sale.

Glad that you can make it to the con! To answer a couple of your questions, I think that it would be best to keep your dolls with you as much as possible. They should be safe in your room, but I'd still keep them in their carriers in there and definitely always keep them with you at the con itself.

You can buy a pass at the door -- $65 for the whole weekend, $40 Saturday only and $35 Sunday only.:)

    22. What does everyone think is a good # of dolls to bring?
      (I'm still having trouble deciding.:sweat)

    23. I think for attending/wandering around, having 1 doll per day to carry around is a good plan. If your there Friday, Saturday, Sunday, then 3 dolls. If you don't have 3 dolls, bringing different outfits is always a good idea. You don't want both arms full of doll so that you can hold other stuff/shop with the free arm.

      -Anneke

    24. That is a good idea having one per day.
      Thanks Anneke.

    25. All my troubles have been ironed out! I'll see you all in the Vendor's Room. :)

    26. yayyyy congratulations :D I was ready to start an underground railroad to get you and your shit across the border!

    27. I'm flying out tomorrow morning, first stop Honolulu then on from there to San Francisco.

I should arrive at the hotel sometime between 9:30 and 10:00pm...
Lol, just in time to go to bed so that I don't sleep through Vendor's set-up. =D

I just finished cramming the last of my merchandise into my suitcases last night, lots of cute props and toys.
Cheap too!....Everything is $5.00 or less, and most of it is well under five bucks. :)

Wow, it sounds like this is a perfect convention hotel, with lots of good places for food and stuff close by.
I've got Monday to do a little exploring, so I'm planning on visiting Japan Town too. ^_^

After much debating, and no small amount of hinting from Lue, ;)
I'm probably going to only bring him with me.

Lue is the black haired Kohaku boy I had with me at the last LA Dolpa, so some of you may have seen him.

He's a MSD/SDC hybrid so he is light and easy to carry if I want/need to leave my booth for a few minutes.
Lol, I'm definitely planning on doing a little shopping in the Vendor's room too! :)

Lue is trying to talk me into letting him bring his newest doll along, so he might have Phrelis, his Puki with him. ;)

I'm so looking forward to this, I can't wait to get there! ^_^

    28. Squeeeee, I am getting more and more excited every day! I can't wait to see everything/everyone and meet all the new dolls.

    29. JRyu - So glad that you can make it! I sat next to you at the LA Dolpa faceup class and remember Lue.:)

    30. I know! But everything is hunky dory now, despite UPS's best efforts to totally screw me over, lol. I'm so excited!

    31. What are you doing in Extreme Modification? What will be taught? I'd like to know before i go and buy the stuff i need.

And also....how much money do you usually bring with you?

    32. hey guys!!! V chan and I got to the hotel not long ago! :D

If any of you are staying tonight, shoot me a PM and maybe we can chill? We'll probably be in our room the rest of the night, but people are welcome to hang with us <3

    33. After racking my brains over this same question, I decided to bring one doll, and three outfits. Since I'm planning on packing her around with me all day, I also went with one of my Dollfie Dream girls, rather than one of my resin ones. I've done Anime Cons with some of my resin kids, and boy, can they get heavy after a while. I was also hoping to shoot some snaps of all those wonderful dolls, for my web site too, so that means I'll have my camera gear in tow also.

I'm hoping that not too many people give my the cold shoulder, knowing that DDs are the red-headed step-child of the ABJD community.

      Thank you for viewing~:aheartbea

    35. See you tonight, everybody! The DollStories clan--me, brother Peter, and baby Lily--are here in PA, getting ready to get on the plane. I've been up all night and won't be able to think straight! But SO excited!

    36. I'm presently at leJob and taking care of last minute things. I should be heading down to get our badges around 1 or so. I have only Sonno with me presently as she is the most convenient of the gang to bring here (and I have a coworker to show her to). Willington might be picked up on my way over (I LOVE being in walking distance!!!). EVERYBODY will arrive sometime over the weekend, just a matter of when.

Should be fun. I am still deliberating if I want to do the Swap Meet right now. I have some stuff that I'd be willing to give new homes to, or even trade for something else. I figure I have time to think :)

    37. We're looking forward to seeing you, but Registration won't be open until 4pm.:)

    38. Probably another dumb question, but seeing how this is my first time... where exactly is everything at the hotel? As far as I know, the cocktail party is the only thing that was given a room assignment.

    39. The cocktail party is right across the lobby in the Emerald Ballroom, but we'll have the entire downstairs/basement for the rest of the weekend.:)

    40. Does that mean there will be boy clothes???? :love

I'm off soon, can't wait to meet everyone!

    41. My mom and I will be going to see a movie then we are off to the registration room to get our badges! I cant wait!!

    42. I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!
Wish me luck on finding roommates still -_-; The day before Dollectable, ugh.

    43. I should be making sure whichever doll is coming with me is ready to be packed up in a bag but I can't decide who to bring. GAH! I should've asked for some input earlier.

I guess I'll get ready to go first and see what happens. :doh

    44. I'm all packed and ready to go tomorrow morning. I was only able to fit 3 dolls, not the 5 that I hoped for. I'm beyond excited, I just wish I didn't have to go to work right now! See everyone tomorrow!

    45. I will be leaving to the airport in about 30 min

      See everyone there tomorrow

    46. Just home from the cocktail party. Thank you, everyone, for coming! You all have such beautiful dolls! Looking forward to seeing even more of you in the morning.:)

    47. We had a great time tonight! A big thank you to the organizers for all the wonderful toys and props on the tables for us to play with, the great food and conversation, the prizes and basically everything!

See you all bright and early tomorrow morning!

    48. Ah, it's so exciting to hear how things are going ( even if it was just the cocktail party xD ).

Dang, I wish I had though to ask earlier, but I guess better late than never...if anyone knew of any sort of panel or anything that might be good for complete newbies to BJDs? Turns out I'm bringing my aunt and maybe my parents with me on Sunday and they don't really know much about BJDs like I do so I thought it'd be nice to find something that might interest them by way of easing them in...

    49. On Sunday the vendors hall is open from 10AM to 3PM. At 10AM there's a seminar on travel in Japan followed at 11 by a talk on Tenshi no Sato visits. At 1PM St. James and I will be doing a hands-on restringing workshop, we've been givien the room until 3. From 1 until 2 PM there's also a panel called Consumer Tips.

There's also some advanced face-up and photography seminars and some costuming how-to's.

      Hope that helps. :)

    50. Idrisfynn's post also reminded me that I forgot to post about the kits that will be available for some of the panels and their costs.

      Saturday, 2pm - Knitting - $20
      Sunday, 12pm - Hatmaking - $10 (to be confirmed)
      Sunday, 1pm - Restringing - $15

All kits will be available for sale at the info desk. Seating priority at the panels will be give to those who bought the kits.

    51. Thanks Kelly ^_^

*is heading out the door right now* I hope to get time to talk to alot of people .

    52. I'll be jumping on BART in the next hour or so, can't wait to see everyone! ^^

    53. Last dumb question, I swear! *lol*

I just bought an Obitsu 60cm from the Junkyspot booth and I also bought the Gretel head because I like it a LOT better than the default head the body comes with.

Soooo... how exactly do I remove the default head so I can put the Gretel head on? Is it true that I can just yank the default head off (and just in case, how do I put the Gretel head on)? Obviously, I didn't want to attempt anything without confirmation. ^_^

    54. I would head to the Doll Spa tonight, and see if someone there can lend a hand. They should have tools on hand for that. Good luck!

    55. I would, but I'm going to the Yaoi-fest instead. ^_^

    56. Wow. What a day. :)

Mostly did shopping things, particularly because the dolls are being decked up a bit for our wedding in a few weeks, so mostly it was buying a few small items for that. Hoofed Willington as he's fairly easy to keep my hands on. Tomorrow I'm not entirely sure who's coming, but I have a feeling it might be smaller creatures (unless Sai gets a little badge photoshoot!).

One more day of fun...and then it's back to the grind. Wheeee!

See those I see tomorrow :)

    57. Omg. I got home a few hours ago. Today was just fabolous. <333 People really admired the fur wig I made for my little boy, Iah. :33 And it was even bought too. Haha. XD!!

Anyhoo, Iah got a great new wig and two great outfits. >w<!! Today was just tons of fun!!! Ah! I'm so happy I could've made it. And a great awesome thanks to Seiji!!! :D!!!!!! >w<!!

      THANK YOU SEIJI!!!

    58. TSUKI!!
I'm glad you made it home!! I called Gunty, and I wanted to make sure you knew
I made it home safely. Thank you for such a lovely day! Your faceups are getting
better every time I see you do them! Be sure to send me all the pictures you took
      of Prince Hachiko : D

THANK YOU EVERYONE AS WELL!! HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR!!
      And the shopping <33 OMG

      Xoxoxoxoxo
      saru~

    59. *waves* remember me? The girl in the hoodie with the insanely tiny cat

Anyway It was so nice to meet you, your fiance and your dolls, who by the way i absolutely loved. We eventually left at about 3 pm. My mum aka lilie spent most of the day shopping for things like underwear, shoes and clothes etc. for her msd. I was just trying to find shoes, which i eventually found but seriously who knew shopping for my Strawberry Ringo could be so hard. I also managed to find a few outfits, which was great. We won't be there tomorrow, we only came for Saturday, but have a great time tomorrow. :)

    60. Ohyes :D And it was very nice to meet you too :) You will definitely be missed!
