    1. I will be on the lookout for the Snugli, Shuichi's sailor-skirt, and Chikara's stripes. <3

Thank you for reminding us! No crepes on Mondays. Well, not at that one place in Japantown Center anyway (was it Sophie's Crepes?).

:D Kelly!! Why didn't WE think of those ourselves?!? *headsmack* Jeez, that's good.

    2. Kellyhime, JennyNemesis, I don't know if anyone has asked either of you this or if you've already mentioned it.. but who're you planning to bring with you out of all your resin lovelies? And if you haven't decided yet, could we request the presence of a specific doll(s) for you to bring? :)

    3. :sweat No, dibei, I haven't really decided who to bring yet! Who is it you'd like to see?

There are a lot of my collection that I don't want to bring out in a crowd, though. Like I know a lot of folks have asked, can they please meet the giant merman? but I do fear for his fancy body-blushing. ;; There's also the matter of security, and how many enticing lovelies are safe to leave sitting on our tables!

However, I think my SDC Arashi, Rowan, might want to join me one day. Those Volks kids, they're built like brick houses, they can handle a crowd. ^^ And for the evening yaoi-fest, I'm sure one of my alpha couples will be joining us. (possibly Ilya & Adrian, who are well-traveled already). I think Kelly's extra-foxy School A twins will be accompanying them that night, too. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe Zero the Namu? He's cute, and has never been to a convention. Or Stavros the tan Mano, who has a list of several women to meet already. Or... oh, this is hard.

    4. Sure, request away! As JN said, my naughty twins will be there on Saturday evening and I'll probably have a couple of my girls earlier for the kimono panel and on Sunday for the Goth-Loli teaparty, but I only live a few blocks away, so I can swap dolls throughout the day. I'm trying to figure out some way to carry a tiny with me -- baby sling maybe.;)

    5. :sweat I also would love to meet your Soom Vega Merman.. but I can understand the reasons why you don't want to. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get one (Last Song is near the top of my wish/need list), but I'd imagine that I wouldn't want him damaged or travel worn, to say the least. *_*

I vote for your Rowan / SDC Arashi, as you're comfortable with him traveling with you.. That and he was the boy that happily crushed my belief that I wouldn't fall for a BJD smaller than 60cm. Man, was I wrong.

    6. Could your Rei / Sakaki make an appearance? Please? :aheartbea

    7. :aheartbea Reeeeeeiii! :aheartbea I want Rei to come too. We'll see if he feels like putting on his body & coming out to greet his fans.

Dibei, Rowan the Arashi is a fearless traveller & con veteran, so he can definitely come. :) (I agree, that's one little guy that can make you smash your No Minis rule!) I live near the hotel too, so there's the possibility of swapping throughout the day.

    8. Hehe! Okay, what I'll do is bring Rei and Dai's head on Saturday, use Rei for my kimono panel -- he probably looks better than any of my other boys in a yukata -- and then swap heads for the yaoi-fest.

For those who don't know, Rei has been "generously" sharing his body with Daisuke, one of my SchA twins, for several months.:sweat

    9. Hahaha! Dollapalooza is hilarious  Nice to know that my mom isn't the only one to do this though, I've given up on trying to correct her a long time ago anyway :p

If you don't mind too much, I'd love to see the tan Mano. I've been considering a Mano to be one of my impossible dream doll ideas (character dolls from one of my favorite series) and it would be nice to see one in person ^^

    10. You know, I was so disappointed the crepe place was closed and a restaurant we wanted to try wasn't in that building anymore, I didn't notice the name of the crepe place. It was in the same building and close to the bookstore.

Shuichi will be in his red and black tux for Friday night but in jeans and boy clothes for the rest of his visit. No crossdressing cosplay this time - it's not yaoicon. *laughs* He only wears his dresses at anime cons now (and in the bedroom...). *cough*

And Chikara definitely wants to learn some new belch tunes from Rowan!

I will be bringing my Pukisha, Talon, and my new YoSD Kuuta boy, Nigel, and maybe Chibi Eiri to watch over Shuichi since large Eiri can't fit in the suitcase. *laughs* Too bad. I wanted to bring large Eiri but he seems happy to stay home and work on his laptop and read this time. I guess even his legs go to sleep after having Shu sitting on him almost constantly for over a year. *laughs*

      See you all soon!

Psst! rat is looking for a SD-sized girl to be Final Fantasy VII's Tifa Lockheart and he'll be shopping the Dealer's Room quite intently. AND he'll be getting lottery tickets, too! Another convert!

    11. There's two crepe places in Japantown, the first one is by the bookstore and the second one is close to May's Coffee Shop and across from the manga cafe (Not worth it if you can't read Japanese, imo. I think I have more English manga than they do >.<... Well I've been buying manga ever since they were sold as bigger books and for $15 a pop, ouch!)

I haven't eaten at both of the places but just had to point out that there's two :p

And if you do find yourself in Japantown, try some red bean taiyaki from May's Coffee Shop! You won't regret it, it's so good! Be sure to ask for a fresh one if you can though.

    12. The crepe shop next to the Kinokuniya bookstore is called Sophies. It's good but sometimes the line is sooooooooooooo long I skip it. I haven't tried the other new place yet. The manga cafe has been calling to me something fierce though.

If anyone plans to see Dark Knight while in town for BJD goodness, it's playing at the Sundance Kabuki theater that's in Japantown. They're pre-selling reserved seat tickets right now. :)

    13. I just cannot wait to get back to a town where I can buy bubble tea.

    14. Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post a couple of pics of the Bishonen House donation to Dollectilbe.

He is a light skin-tone Nori, The light Noris i only make as gifts to friends and for special occasions and i do not offer them for sale..

Hes slightly under 70cm tall, his eyes are 11mm. He is completely hand crafted by myself and signed inside of his head and also labled Dolletible 2008

I'm sorry the pics aren't better and im sorry i havent sent these off to everyone at Dollectible ahead of time, but i literally just finished him.. Dreux Priore of eggangel.com will be making an outfit that will also be included with him :-)

Im leaving tomorrow morning for my cross country drive to San Francisco! yay! I'm very excited about dollectible!! and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone! :-)

      take care,
      Donn

    15. Wow! Just, wow, Donn! He is absolutely stunning! I can't tell you how much Dollectable appreciates your donation! Personally, I'm really looking forward meeting you and Dreux and hope that you two have a great trip across the country. My husband and I took a similar trip years ago and it was so interesting seeing the rest of our country.:)

      Thanks again!
      Kelly

    16. Ehm.. was my post not appropriate? o_o''

Ouh, btw... I love that doll. He's very gorgeous. :3

    17. Wow Donn he looks fantastic! Can't wait to see this gorgeous guy in person :aheartbea

    18. I'm afraid that selling outside of the Marketplace is not allowed on the forum.

    19. I have a question >_>

I'm going to be doing a panel that Mercy roped me into at the same time as the BJD video contest that I entered. First, am I still eligible even though I've been volunteered? And also, can I still win and get my prize even if I am not physically there to collect a prize right away? (I -really- wanted to see this contest T^T)

    20. Mercy is very good with a lasso, isn't she?;) I'm glad though, because it's great that you will be on her photostories panel! Don't worry -- only the staff cannot enter contests -- panelists, vendors, volunteers and attendees are all welcome to enter. And the same prize rule that I stated above applies -- you do not have to be present to win, but if you win, we would really appreciate it if you would pay for shipping.:)

    21. I wanted to know if the vendors are going to be accepting any major credit cards or if cash is my best bet. :D

    22. I'm pretty sure someone mentioned an ATM quite close to the hotel, so laying your hands on some cash shouldn't be too hard.

I will only be accepting cash, personally - logistically I just can't make anything else work, unfortunately.

    23. Brennil, just wondering if you were going to have some boy clothes there, my poor Limho needs clothes sooo bad Y_Y

I'm afraid the ATM machines will get emptied pretty quickly

    24. I think a lot, the method is the same only applied with different materials :) I think we may be going over scars and freckles and good stuff like that! this will be a more "hands on" class where one of us will be walking around and helping people!

    25. I am coming with money from ATM down here (already took out some today for next week :lol::lol:)

    26. I just going to absorb as much as I can..... oh, yeah, need to bring a head, too. better Prep School A tomorrow

    27. There are multiple banks, including a Wells Fargo and a Bank of America, within one block of the hotel. :)

    28. I would be able to get it right after my panel, wouldn't I? I'll be there the whole weekend >_>

Thanks for answering my questions :)

    29. I've never seen that particular facemold by Bishonen House! Can't wait to see him in real life!
      Alex

    30. im supa' excited!!! only a few more days til i get on the train. i still need to start packing! I only have stuff packed for the swap meet. do you need to pre-register for the swap or just pay for it at the swap time like last year?

i still need to figure out what dolls to bring!

    31. Ouh uh.. didn't know that. I just can't do paypal or anything.. so I thought it was easier that way. :doh

    32. I'm having logistical problems at the moment, so I might just be a display again this year! But I'm trying hard and if I do have stock there will be lots of boy stuff, I promise ;)

    33. Oh good! I will keep my fingers crossed!

I'm getting really excited! I took this week off to prepare and get ready! can't wait to see everyone! have a safe trip Jaime!

    34. I cant wait! It's so soon! and all those dolls that are prizes....god there so pritty!

    35. I still have to decide if I'm going to bring faceup tools and head. I may just come and watch and take notes at the demos. I'm having to pack for the weather so I'm carrying more clothes than I'm used to taking on a trip.

    36. Aside from the Bambicrony Army, anyway. *grin*

    37. I'm planning on giving a freckling demo during Sdink and I's Advanced Faceup class if there's any interest. I'll bring the required materials just in case. ^_^

    38. YES! So much interest! :D

I'm still making restringing kits. *_* My fingers hurt!

I'm so excited! I hope the weekend doesn't fly past in a whirlwind again this year, but it probably will. :fangirl:

    39. I plan on printing out about 10-20 pamphlets for the class of the Power Point demo we are doing for $5.00 each in case anyone is interested also :)

    40. wait, what the hell?? I am so sorry :( you must be quite frustrated. Is our country messin' with you again?

    41. Well it's a long story...but yes, customs problems. I'm hoping to resolve them in time.

    42. Hopefully you get it resolved. Have you thought about possibly shipping over the stock to the hotel before you come? That way your not technicly bringing it across state lines. Or something of that nature. I hope it works out. (and yes...customs here is balls sometimes XP )

    43. *coughs* I am biased towards Ilya and Adrian myself  , but seeing any of your boys would be fantastic!

    44. As much as a computer geek and gamer as I am I do not own a laptop, but if after the Con if anyone is interested I can sell them and have it mailed to you.

    45. O_o Three Sleeps Till Dollectable!!!!!

    46. Holy Moley - just a few more days!

I don't know if anyone even has time to do anything like this, but if anyone has some suggestions for good but reasonably-priced places to eat, I know those of us out-of-towners would appreciate some ideas.

    47. I'd be very interested in this myself, if anyone finds themselves with free time before Dollectable....

      We're leaving tomorrow morning, I can't wait! ^_^

    49. absolutely Awesome! Thank You, Kellyhime!!!

    50. ok...i have a question....

For the face-up panel err thing. Do we need our own materials to do a face-up...or will some be provided?

    51. There's also Denny's in Japantown (and elsewhere in the city) that's open 24 hours for those of you who like late-night snacks/meals.

    52. It WAS once a Denny's-- but now it is "New Danny's".
Is mostly the same disgusting place, they just took away the Hawaiian menu. :P

Normally, I disregard any Yelp review of any urban eatery as being written by a bunch of tenderfooted suburban wimps who don't understand the places where they're eating. But in this case, I severely suggest you take these under advisement:
      old = http://www.yelp.com/biz/dennys-san-francisco-3
      new = http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-dannys-san-francisco

Please, in the name of everything you love, only eat there if it is an emergency. And it should never be that much of an emergency. You can get 24-hour drunken-munchie-food at places like Sparky's, Bagdad Cafe, Lori's Diner, Pinecrest Diner, Video Cafe, or Cafe Mason. You can sit on filthy booths, get schmoozed or barfed-on by drunken club slickers just out of karaoke, and be insulted by surly waitresses anywhere else in the city.

If you are dead-set on eating there, just to have the Japantown experience, bring Imodium A-D. And don't sit directly on the surfaces of the booth.

On the other hand, if it's 5 AM and you are on a lot of drugs and you just want French fries & some people to bother, then you should be fine.

    53. While JN describes things a bit more "colorfully" than I do, she did bring up a good point that there are indeed other good restaurants in Japantown, which is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride (take any bus going west on Sutter) away from the hotel. I recommend Tanpopo in the Buchanan mall, On the Bridge (natto spaghetti - yum!) between the Kintetsu & Kinokuniya malls and Mifune in the Kintetsu mall.

    54. Holy crap.

That is all I have to say to that. Who would've thought that one year would make such a difference to that place.

      YIKES!

      :ablah:

    55. I'm so jealous i cant be there this year...especially since the theme is steampunk and im totally into that right now...but at least i will be at an anime con with my BF to take my mind off of missing dollectable! XD

    56. I can only speak for Sdink and I's classes, but the Basic Airbrush Faceup class on Saturday is only a Power Point demo explaining how it is done. Our Advanced Class on Sunday is where you bring your own materials to work and ask for any help etc needed. I will also be doing an airbrush demo & freckling demo during that class.

      Hope that helps.

    57. For those with a vehicle and paying the rediculous $30+ a night for parking fee, you do have in-out privelages. So finding food can be easier.

      -Anneke

    58. Probably a dumb question, but how do you get to Japantown from the hotel? I understand that it's ~15 minutes walking distance, but from which direction and whatnot? A link to a nice map would be especially helpful. ^_^

    59. While the hotel will have maps available, it's always nice to plan ahead and this seems like a good SF tourist map: http://www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/media/downloads/maps/official_visitors_map_downtown.pdf

Find the pink California cable car line and go to the end of it at Van Ness -- the Holiday Inn is just below the pink dot. Japantown is marked on it to the west of Van Ness.:)

    60. Yes, pretty much any restaurant inside the mall is nice. I like the one with the boats! Isobune. Or if you'd prefer DIY fresh stuff, there's the Niji Market (big asian supermarket) nearby.

For transit maps, schedules, & other references, go to http://511.org/. It's got info for all the Bay Area transit agencies. Muni buses, CalTrain, BART, AC Transit, etc.

It has a wonderful "Trip Planner" applet, where you can plug in your departure/destination times, addresses, and other preferences:
      http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&itdLPxx_homepage=secondStep
(That is what I use when I have to go somewhere outside my neighborhood & have no idea where I'm going.)

Just keep minimum safe distance from that Denny's. Besides, you don't need that stuff anyway, you can eat Denny's at home.
