Doll NORTH 2009

Eeeee! I'm so excited! My Mom got us a room close by. I'll be the girl with strawberry blonde hair, jeans and a T shirt carrying a Johnny Depp Minimee (whos pouting because he didn't get a new faceup for DN. I couldn't get MSC in time.) and possibly a limwha ToYou. I may bring Ana-Liese, its still up in the air, its just that she's the only one with a factory faceup and it needs another coat of MSC, theres already a spot where its wearing off. Hope to meet some of you there!

wahhhhhhhhhhhhh, that was alot of fun :3 I was really nervous though! (thank you saturn rose!) but ended up buying one of saturnrose's lovely tille hats :3 and my first wig! (sorry if someone from here sold me that x3). for the refference I was the guy in the grey flanl walking aaround th teble about a bajilion times x3 my appologies!

Sarah arrivees in 2 weeks, and while my robot armor for her is already in progress, I wanted to get some clothes too, cause she'll really hate me if she only has the armor to wear when she arrives ^^ but nothing really caught my eye today that ould fit ^^ so has anyone caught any dealers/artist alley people selling doll stuff?

oh! and I forget who it waswith the giant bear costume with the doll on top ^^ but I saw that! very cool! my friends liked it!

I can't remember if I talked to you or not now. @_@ I talked to so many people next day. Are you going to be at the meet today? You should come talk with saturnrose and I. We love the company.

 

wahhhh, thank you dear ^^ I just get really nervous at the concept of buying stuff like this ^^ I can't help assume it comes from a couple really bad experiences buying girls clothes a few years beck, but don't fret! in a couple weeks i'll have Sarah, and from there i'm sure i'll be alot more comfortable with meetups and stuff :3 so please forgive me this time! everyone! your all such a lovely bunch!

today I tried to get in to the doll101 a coupe minuites late, but the doors were locked! so I panicked and scurryed off :3 I enjoyed the half hour doll psych, and the back half of the doll, but had other animu stuff to do after that! I'd LOVE to hear how everything else went!! especially the angelic layer! I only looked at the description for that like just now, thats sounded awesome! (right now i'm just in the DT lobby typing away on my doll sized laptop :3 before I head over to gaming)

thanks again everyone, the marketplace and the panels I saw were all really well put together! I hope I don't have to wait a whole year to hang out with you all aagain!

Yay! Glad to hear people enjoyed the Doll Psych Panel . I felt I could have added more but was worried had too much already.

HUGE thanks to all the Doll North Masq Entries!!! They were all mind-blowing awesome . I really hope photos pop up of them cause my camera went silly at AN. It was way too hard to judge and it was SO close between all entries (all were 1-2 points from each other). It really came down to workmanship structure flaws. I hope those that came enjoyed it even though it was small and I was very tired while running it. Very grateful for acexkeikai and her non-bjd friend who helped judged.

P.S Sorry to those confused by the errors in the Program Guide and the website. Organization for panels seemed to be very flawed across the board. Gaming, Cosplay and Doll all had issues.

 

I will enter next year! Now that I've been once and have a feel for it. You did a good job. I have some pictures but only a few. The nice guy with the laptop and DOD Shall looked like he might've taken some awesome pictures though.

 

Aw, I had such a nice time talking with you, there was no need to be nervous I found every one to be very nice at the doll events this year. I'm so excited for you to have your doll come home, I think you'll really enjoy the experience

Thank you so much for all of your help and organization Sonya, just the move to the Double Tree was a huge boost for the exposure of Doll North this year.

All in all I had a really great time with Sleeps and CharmyC this weekend. Also to the new owner and friends of the girl who purchased my Puki Mary you 3 are the cutest group of friends EVER, I'm so glad she's gone to an excellent new home

 

I had a lot of fun, and it was exciting to see all the beautiful dolls and pose Carmen goofily handing out cakes and ice-cream to other dolls or holding his pet chicken with others around!

 

I had a total blast, guys! I was the girl dressed as Azula (um, all in bright red) with the Abadon. We had so much fun. I'm really excited to see the AN pictures pop up, as my boy will be in some of them! It'll be really neat to see that. Mine and Mercy's first doll meet was a total success, we'll try to come up to more even though we're 3 hours away -.- And of course I got him a new wig! Looks so nice on him.

I'll start firing off pms to the people whose names I got in a few minutes. I should probably eat something first.

 

Hoihoi! Both me and Judas had a wonderful time TT___TT EVEN THOUGH HE TOOK A SCARY SPILL!!! Thankfully he's not hurt or angry, though he threw a fit afterwards and wouldn't let me put his shoes on. I will post up the pictures I have soon!

I was really happy to be there this year!!! Last year I couldn't be there very much! I was amazed by the amount of people who showed up ^_^ So many doll to see! I am glad I got to see some of the potential doll that I want to get in the futur ^_^ Thanks for the owner of the MNFShiwoo who sold me a wig and a shirt ^_^ I wanted to see a shiwoo and I am glad I did ^^ Also thanks for the shirt! My boy love it!

@Charmyc yus! that was the one! very cool, my appologies from not knowing what it was from ^^; but yeah, all my friends were all "that's really awesome!" (they knew what it was from ^^; I would think its one of the tales games right?). its neat that you incorporated the doll into that, even if it was'nt exactly ball jointed and more of plushie jointed XD could you explain that? like was that a character that usually does that?

 

old_king_gold: It's quite alright! can't know everything, there's way too many series and game for that. Yep it was a tales cosplay alright ^^ I was cosplaying Tokunaga from Tales of the Abyss. The doll on top is called Anise. In the game Anise is a puppeteer and she make her bag size tokunaga doll grow up at twice her size to fight off monster.

Anise was made with fluff and fabric only so no joint there ( she's heavy enough without being case in resin >D)

 

Big thanks to acexkeikai and silverangel902 for organizing Doll North! I had a wonderful time and I hope I see a ton more doll people next year!

Oh, I didn't quite understand the process. Either way, I'm far from purchasing a face-up - I need to purchase a head first! I was just asking for information's sake.

Anyway, it was definitely an amazing experience and only made me want to order my doll sooner! I can't wait for next year~

 

This is how I ship heads and *knocks on wood* they have always been safe.

- Choose Xpresspost with insurance and tracking (varies from $15-$24 CAD depending on weight and destination). These guys are cheap but still good. No hidden fees like UPS or FedEx either.
- Can put 'fragile' but I haven't needed it.
- Buy the small box sold by Canada post (smallest box with assembly required). It is around $5 I think but they are worth it and commissioners will use it to resend the head. It perfectly holds heads and when stuffed with following list of stuff the head doesn't move and makes zero noise even when shook violently.
-Newspaper, packing peanuts, bubble-wrap and face shield.
-Packaging tape. Go nuts covering every seam on the box.

 

Oh man I had so much fun! I can't remember all the names of who I talked to (I'm good with faces not names) but it was great meeting all of you. I hope to see you all again next year

Nice meeting you guys. I was late but it was good. Hahah.....I had to register my doll's katana sword at weapons check! luckily I brought the plastic instead of the steel blade katana, otherwise, Kenshin will have his sword confiscated!....actually Kenshin with plastic sword don't mix. They took photo of me holding the doll with sword + the piece of paper with serial number like a prison record! That was cute.

I return to Saskatchewan this Sunday. I am not sure if I'd have a chance to attend Anime North next year.

 

Gotta love weapons check and the mug shots. But the fact that tiny sword had to be checked is strange yet entertaining. AN is the most strict out of the Ontario cons but for good reasons.

I know a lot of photos were taken but many of the photographers-- due to work-- won't have any up for a while. They will be coming though .

 

Hey guys, Doll North (and Anime North!) was a blast! It was so nice meeting everyone!
Hopefully we can do it all again next year! The marketplace (I was the vendor in the back left corner with the goggles and such) was great and I met a lot of nice people, and the masquerade on Saturday was great! I'll definitely want to enter more of the subjects next yr

 

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who made DN possible, it was a lot of fun!!

The BJD masquerade was really fun to do and watch! I imagine next year there will be a lot more people entering since now we all now it exists and will have a year to make stuff for it, yay!! Do you think there will be a separate cosplay and separate original outfit categories (and if so are we allowed to enter one in each?), or do you think it will be kept as just one ooutfit category? The prizes were awesome and that pink volks girl was soooooo adorable!!!!

Can't wait for next year, it was definitely worth the flight to TO

I agree that it was the busiest/most crowded during the first 2 hours, but I think that 3 hours was nice and I noticed that I was still selling stuff that last hour, the room just wasn't as crowded and it gave people a better chance to talk with the sellers (that's just my observations though)..

Elzamine and I are already planning for next year's DN!!

 

I am definitely coming again next year and will be thinking of new outfits to make for the Doll North Masquerade. I think more people will be coming next year and there will be a ton of entries.

I think it's a great idea by mistress_S_ to split the outfit competition into two categories of cosplay and original.

Thank you to everyone who organized and helped with Doll North. I had a very good time, and it was nice seeing new people drawn to the hobby.

I think the three hours was nice to have for the doll market. It would be a good improvement also if the market would have been held over two days or so. I think a lot of people couldn't make it on just one day because of conflicting obligations.

Early planning is a great idea.

 

Yah, they weapons checked my doll's sword. . It's a miniature plastic Katana from Volks suitable for Dollfie Dream and other 60 cm dolls.They are pretty strict this year, I saw parasols being checked.

 

Are photos of Doll North usually posted on this forum or elsewhere? I am trying to track a fan who posed with my doll. I know this is close to impossible but If I publish that photo on flickr and he happens to see it, he may not approve of his photo being published without permission.

Checking parasols.....I keep imagining ladies hitting guys with parasols!!! Yah, parasols are dangerous weapons. I don't mind the checks but the line was long. They were selling real swords in the dealer's room.

The 3 hours was a good idea I think, it gave people who wanted to look around later a chance to do so, and a chance for other vendors to run around and see the other tables too!

All in all, as long as it happens again, you can be sure I'll be there

 

Hmm There's a gallery event thread for Doll north, but it seems kinda quiet right now. There might be more at TDAF?

 

All of our dolls need, "I servived the Yaoi Paddle Guy at Anime North '09" T-shirts!

 

I know it's been a month since the event - I've been laying a bit low in the community as of late and I went on vacation since then for a couple weeks, but I'm finally getting around to checking these threads. I would love to see the Marketplace split into two days, or being held on Saturday some time. I did get to duck in and buy some stuff at the beginning (my girl loves the cute MSD shirt I bought from you ^_^), but I would have really liked to sell some of my stuff and couldn't, due to also selling in Nominoichi (which has pretty much paid for my con for the last four years - not quitting now).

I can honestly see Doll North being even bigger next year. I'm glad it got moved to the Doubletree this year. It makes it so much easier for curious people to just pop in and see what we're about.

 

I'd appreciate the selling being split over 2 days as I likely wouldn't be going on Friday as I have to work and it's difficult for me to get there travel-wise. I'd make a day of it for Saturday.

 

This is kind of late/random, but I'm also hoping that the Doll North marketplace will be held on Saturday (in addition to Friday). I'll be busy selling merchandise at the Nominoichi on Friday night, so I might not be able to attend the Doll North marketplace on that day (or stay for very long).

 

I'm not even sure this event is happening this year. Usually it's announced long before now. Anyone else able to shed light on that?

 

Oh no, really?? Please tell me Doll North is happening this year!! My roomate and I and another friend just assumed it would be happening again and bought our plane tickets already (we're in New Brunswick).

But I thought they said they were thinking of doing more contest categories "next year" meaning THIS year.. that's a good sign, right?

 

I think I remember someone mentioning that there might be a contest of some sort, but I'm not sure what kind of other programming is happening. I really shouldn't come out and say 'it's not happening', since I'm not exactly sure. I just assumed since we hadn't heard anything, and due to other issues that arose after the fact last year, it might not happen. I'll see what I can find out.

Well, this thread (last year's) wasn't started until March, so maybe it's still a bit early.

 

I not sure who is working on Doll North but I am interested in helping out if they need it . I have some ribbons still left over from when I did SFX con . Looks like we'd all like to get on board with planning/ request for doll north this year. I've sent along a quick pm to acexkeikai to check up on this thread as anime north has listed her as in charge of organization for doll north this year.

I'd like to do anything I can to help and hopefully we can all offer some input on this thread for the schedule of doll north?

Personally I would really like to see the doll marketplace on friday and saturday if possible, as well as a planned doll meet on sunday. The sunday meet was the biggest thing missing from doll north last year for me and a lot of other yearly AN attendees that I spoke with.

The events last year were great.
I loved how it was at the doubletree. I'd be up for the marketplace being open twice, too!

ACK!!! I Really hope everything's still On for this year, My friend and I have been making clothes to sell all year since last year! My mom's been making jewellery too! My doll family is too excited for this to have it not happen! >< And if there is a Doll North this year, I gotta make sure I get a table! ^^;;

Is there any way someone else can take over the event instead?
Maybe we can find some volunteers to help run it?

I wonder if we narrowed it down to just one day, for example Friday; and just had a few hour slot in a room for the swap, and an hour or two slot in the room for a meet-up or tea-party?

I'm in New Brunswick and won't arrive until Thursday after suppertime-ish, but I'd be willing to help out as best as I can from the other side of the Country haha. Juless231, Elzamine, and myself have hosted BJD panels at Animarime (a local anime convention). While I'm not sure yet if Juless231 will be coming with us this year to Anime North, but Elzamine & I will at least be two volunteers to start with...
