Doll NORTH 2009

Mar 17, 2009

1. Because of things beyond my control, I unfortunatly have to cancel Doll North this year (2010). I hope to be able to hold it next year but as of now it's just not feasible, I will not be able to attend this year and to coordinate the event without me being there to supervise will make it just too complicated.

Sorry to let you down but times are hard :( and it saddens me a lot.

2. :D Sweet! Can't wait to go since I missed it last time I went to AN :'D

3. Is there an AN website with info about dates and such?

4. Sweet I hope to see you then :)

There is the Anime North website
we a mini-con within the con :) May 22th to 24th

5. My hotel room because I am staff is always at the DT... so not having to drive with all my stuff really helps this year :)

6. So wish I could attend. :( Unfortunately I got University to complete. :| Maybe next year!

7. Ooh, the events don't start until 10am so I can stay downtown and drive out. Yay :) I :aheartbea the Cambridge Suites.

8. I have friends on staff :). Very glad you pushed for DT this year. I'm hoping for another photo panel as I missed it last year. Also hoping that the market will grow this year.

I'm hoping since it isn't at the Ren that more people will pop in and take a look. A lot of people I know avoided DN because 1)was too far and 2)was same place as Yaoi North with the hormonal unsupervised children :shudder. (Just as a fyi they weren't against Yaoi North (or I for that matter. I go after dark.)--just the children that attend it. I braved the children though...There was many a close call of bjds almost being damaged because of those kids throwing stuff, jumping all over the place, humping everything...:vein).

Not sure I can help out until I figure out the cosplay stuff.

9. Oh sweet another doll market :D I'm so doing that again this year :D

10. I miss Anime Nooorrrrttthhhhhhhh!!! :...(

Vancouver has...well...kind of an epically sad Anime con. I have to travel to Seattle's SakuraCon just to get my fix.

I wish I had plans to travel back east. *sigh* Well, I can always hope for next year.

11. awesome!! I was wondering if the person who did the Anime North pass in doll size will do them again this year? I so want one this year ^_^ Oh Sewing panel! I am going!

12. Wahhhhhhhhh :fangirl: How interesting xD lol~ I hope my friend doesnt mind if i drag his bum to the event haha XD~ lol~ Well what am i saying, ill force him since ill be the one driving XD..

But which one to go too *_*, work permits me to only take one day off during those weekends ><...

Anyways~ sounds like fun hehe ^ ^

13. I wish I was able to come. I would love to offer to do some sort of face-up tutorial/panel. It would be fun. :3

14. I can't go due to travel restrictions, stupid visa process. Next year...

.hlp

15. I'd definitely drop by if you have another newbie/BJD 101 type panel :) Wanted to go to it last year but I was only there on Saturday :sweat

16. Myself and niku may drop in at some point during the weekend- we're both in the artist alley but would definately like to come for a quick nosey :).

17. I still have the power point presentation. I might work on it more thought. If you want you can ask questions :)

18. Ah, I wish I could come. :aheartbea have fun everyone~!

19. I'm going but only on Saturday and I'm still undecided if I'm going to bring Moswen with me. He's only an MSD sized guy, but I'd imagine hefting his perky butt around all day would get tiring. But I do so want to show off my lovely boy.

20. I'd try to be there. I'm in Saskatoon. Not sure about my schedule this year. I was there last year. I did not have a doll last year. This year, I have 2! :) I so badly hope I can be there!!!! Yah, would be my first doll meet with a doll! :aheartbea

If I'm there, I'd try to dress my F-38 as Rurouni Kenshin. I'm not sure if I can get his Hakama-Kimono done on time. I will do something really evil, I shall use lipsticks to draw a cross shape scar on his face....so, you will be able to recognize me! Yah, easier said than done!

21. doll market huh? guess I'll be saving my pennies 'till then :)... my boy needs new clothes
This'll be my first time at Anime North, so I'm definetely excited for it

22. Oooo I hope so too! They were soooo adorable! My boys still have theirs in my wallet :P

23. It's not so bad. I've lugged SD13s without a problem at AN and FanExpo. Also lugged cosplay props of insane sizes too. Just sit down when you need to and keep your fluids up. I highly recommend a carrier though for when you need your hands (the carrier also doubles as a purse/backpack/id tag holder XD). The best thing to do is bring a bjd savvy friend to help babysit or find a friend with a room. If a pal isn't a go I've had TDAF and DOA people I know hold them for me or sit with them and their dolls while I shop. At a previous TAC we had a little dollie pow-wow going on. The dolls hung out in a circle with a few supervisors while their owners ran around.

AN has lotsa people. Around 10,000ish. Bjd people are usually VERY easy to find. I love chatting up with owners and meeting all the dolls. You are most likely to find them sitting down in the DT or around the Artist Alley in the TCC. A lot of people will come up and ask questions and ask for photos of your doll so be prepared to be stopped from time to time! A warning though. Kids can get a bit crazy. Although glomps and roughhousing are forbidden they occur so realize your doll could be at risk for damage. When traveling through crowds hold them close. Saturdays are especially insane. For AN remember to eat your meals, bring Gravol and painkillers(headaches and muscle aches will happen), drink water and try to do as much as you can within reason. I recommend the Jpop dance if you like craziness, clubs and high energy music or the moonlight ball if you are like me and enjoy elegance, poofy dresses, bar and a more adult atmosphere.

24. I'm going with a friend who also has bjd's (although I'm not sure if she's bringing any of her resin crew). I have a large tote I usually use for shlepping Moswen around and I'll probably bring that along just in case my arms start to fall off from holding him for hours.

Having a doll-sitting group is kinda a nifty idea *grins*.

25. You should be all set then :). You guys can take turns watching them. The sitting groups kind of just HAPPEN over the weekend. It's really fun though. The dolls get into all sorts of hi jinks and lots of cute photos ensue.

26. We're going to be cosplaying most of the weekend but we want to attend the sunday meet. and Sonya I STILL have your stand and I'm bringing it with me to hand off to you :)

Sorry I couldn't do panels this year. We've been kind of busy with health issues and a job switch. For a while I wasn't even sure I would be attending AN :( We will pop in now and again to see all our fellow doll collectors again! Our friend Kat will be carrying around our dolls most of the weekend!

See everyone there!

27. don't worry about it that's what I figured that might happen with the stand. Thank you so holding on to it and bringing it back with you at AN... I just have to remember not to forget it again LOL

28. B UMP Added info on marketplace tables and panels info :)

29. I'm *so* excited to meet local people this year! I was there last year, but didn't have my doll and was incredibly awkward. Now Mercy is home and I can't wait to show him off! I'll be off cosplaying most of the weekend, but will escape my group whenever possible. I'll be the teenager with the short hair cosplaying Cardcaptor Sakura... so poor Mercy will probably have little ears and wings so he can cosplay as Kuro.

A small request - Mercy has an... er... decidedly snuggly disposition, and I'm terrified to restring him myself. Despite being into dolls for upwards of three years, I'm very isolated and the only time I saw any other than Mercy was at last year's AN. He's an SDF Abadon. Would some kind and experienced doll owner like to meet up with me and give me a hand?

... can you feel my enthusiasm?! This is what comes from living in the middle of nowhere.

30. I could help tighten his strings... but you haven't done it before?

31. Despite the fact I've been into dolls for about three years, I've only had Mercy for about a month. I'm still figuring him out :)

32. Yaay my last Toronto meet before I'm off to NB.
..

That actually made me kind of sad.

33. I can try and help you if you want :)

34. BTW A reminder we need Panellists! No one has vollunteered yet.

35. I'm waiting for work to see how much of Anime North I get off *_*. I'm in between jobs and once the dust settles I'll see what I'm working with. I am VERY interested in doing the Doll Psychology panel though and helping with newbie panels. Also would be up to maybe holding an outfit, faceup and backstory contest for the bjds cause I think I'd be nice to have awards for the Doll section.

36. I can't wait for May. >w< I'm really excited. Thanks to hotel reservations this year, I'll finally be able to attend some doll stuff. I look forward to seeing some of you guys! I'll look into my time...I hope to help out with the BJD 101 panel. I'll let you know if that works out as soon as I can!

I may bring an MSD with me like last year (my Tender-Too).

37. Oh a doll cosplay contest/masquerade would be awesome!!!

Oh, oh, oh!! Has anyone mentioned having a doll tea-party to fill one of those pannel slots??? We could have little tea cups for the dolls and tiny cupcakes and stuff!! I'd help with that if there was interest, I'd even dress up as a lolli-maid and serve tea if needed heehee ;)

38. :D!!! It looks like feral5 and I may very well be coming after all! Is there anyway to find out how many tables/spots are left in the market? I know feral5 has been working on a lot of new things for her Icarus line and would love a chance to sell them at Doll North. :3

39. Awww, NB is nice, though! We have a good bjd crew here too, and have monthly meets usually ^^

I'll be showing at Doll North this year, along with my clothing company, Pretty Petal Designs. I'm not sure what times I'll be around since there's a group of us (Mistress_S_ included! *waves*) but I intend to catch the market and then do some socializing ^^

See you all there, I'm major excited!

40. Woot :D I reserved my table. I'm having a blast designing and sewing for it, and tonight I just cast my first adorable resin acessories <3 I also demand everyone come say hi :3 if they see me :3

Edit: Lol It'll say HighPriestessIce on my badge. And I'll either cosplay Rose from Legend of Dragoon or Suzuka from Angelic Layer. Depending on funds. If I manage to snag one of the dolls I'm saving for it'll be Suzuka cause it's cheaper XD

41. I'll also be attending this year D: Sadly i only admired from afar last year. I'm really scared of the hyper children though, as my boy is new and i would become a mass murderer if something happened to him 8E!!! For those veterans, how dangerous is it to bring your doll??? I'm quite worried :(

42. Just a reminder that you have until April 15th to contact me for panels.

Contests: wish we could make one this year but it's unfortunatly too close to do one this time around. due to me loosing my job in December and I have to buy the prizes and I get reimbursed at the con only, I can't possibly give a prize. Hopefully, next year I'll have tme to plan.

Guest: Donald Kinney from Bishonen House cannot make it to Doll North this year. We hope he's be with us next year.

43. This is going to possibly sound like a stupid question but bear with me -- I'm a newbie . . . . If I want to go to Doll North, I have to pay the admission to the anime convention? I ask only because I just found out I'll be unemployed this summer and $55 is a lot of money (that's what the early registration pass is for all 3 days).
If I do scrape up the money, should I buy the 3 day pass or just get one particular day.
Hate to say it, but I'm not into Anime so I'd likely be coming up to the airport just for the doll stuff (and it is a bit of a hike as I live near Union Station right near the water)
Any adivce . . . ?

44. Well Doll North is part of Anime North so you have to pay for registration. The early registration does cover the entire 3 days. But I think if you were to take just Friday and Saturday it would cost you just as much.

I don;t really know what to tell you. You could come just Saturday, but the marketplace is just on Friday.

45. I'll be attending this year, as per usual. Please say "hi" to me if you see me around! I'll probably be bringing one of the Yo's with me for the weekend and will be in BTSSB for the loli tea party on Sunday. ♡

46. Oh! Loli tea party on Sunday?? Funn!! Is this an Anime North event or a Doll North event? I didn't even realize the schedule was up yet :sweat

47. I think it's a Anime North Event.

48. i wish i lived in Canada so i could go LMAO

49. I've never had any problems bringing my dolls around.... not even in the dealers room. xD As long as you keep your eyes on them, you should be fine. :)

50. last reminder you have until tomorrow to submit for a panel. :) We'd love to have you :)

51. Ok, it is confirmed I'm attending Anime/Doll North this year on Sat 23rd and may be Sun 24th April. I fly into Toronto on May 22nd and will stay with my family in Toronto, I won't be staying in Double Tree hotel. I have not booked the Anime North tickets yet but may decide not to book early and join that big line-up Sat morning. In past years, I ended up in long line-ups even if I book early online. The long line-up has become an unavoidable ritual for attendees of Anime North.

I'm not sure if I'd be attending alone or with someone. My boyfriend has accompanied me to Anime North for 3 years and is getting very bored with it. He said he won't want to come this year. :o If I don't have company, it may be awkward attending. I'm interested in attending panels or workshops on restringing and basic doll care. I would like to meet BJD doll doctors. I'm a newbie to BJDs and don't think I'm able to contribute to panels.

This is possibly my last attendance at Anime North. Not sure what will happen next year. :(

I cannot decide on which doll to bring to the con. I want to bring both. Last year, I saw someone put 2 big dolls on a small baby stroller but I don't have a baby stroller.

52. hmm.. I'd like to reserve a table for the marketplace but not sure if it'd be really fair since we honestly just want to sell like one item x: which is a doll head.

53. Added info on the first page

54. really looking forward to this! 7th year at ANorth, but first month into dolls, so i'll be hoping to learn alot! i'll deffinitly check out the marketplace and be there early saturday, let me know if you need an unknowledgable guy to like... lift stuff ^^; or something. It should be fun getting away from my friends "uhh, yeah guys, i'm gonna go, umm, check out the fighter games panel :D yeah..." hahah enjoyable deciept!

55. Well if you want to stay after the marketplace and help me reorganize the room for the next day I would really appreciate the help :) I can answer questions at the same time :)

56. I lost my transportation to An x.x anyone leaving from montreal have space? I am checking busses of course but if someone have space it could really help me!

57. D: Thank you lol You've helped to ease my mind a bit. EEE I'm so excited XD

58. If anyone has any questions regarding the 'Doll Masquerade' please feel free to PM me.

Any theme within themselves, as long as they are clear is allowed to be entered. The 'Masquerade' title simply refers to the TYPE of competition.

59. Sure thing! I'd love to help tidy up before scurrying off to the fighter games for the night ^^

as for miss montreal, I know the trains run out of there to toronto almost like, hourly, so maybe their cheaper? if time is a factor you'd want to take a robert Q or some other bus that goes to the airport, not union station (downtown) or anything, the ride from downtown to the airport is rather painfull, only $2.75, but well over an hour
