Doll NORTH 2009

Yes I done it last year with the train. Took me a while to get around since I wasn't used to the bus system. my big trouble is my costume x.x last year part of it was drived by some friend but this year they can't. *checks out new info* Hmn, maybe I'll enter the doll masquerade. I definetely intended on making Mercy a new outfit anyways, he only has like one pair of pants, a coat and two shirts. I know I won't win (I'm only seventeen) but it'll be fun to enter.

... Think I can find a mohair wig at the marketplace? Mercy seriously needs one. His long wig is impossible to keep looking nice.

 

From an extreme newbie who knows nothing about "Anime North".....where is this event located?! (the links provided in this thread aren't working....at least not on my computer). Thanks!

 

it takes place mostly at the doubletree hotel by pearson airport! the airport is located at the far north west area of town and is rather painfull to get to from the core of downtown (train station, Eatons center, etc.)

I have a dealer's table, and was wonderingweather it woudl be a good idea to bring doll items & the secind hand dolls I ahve for sale...?I won;t be able togo to thedoll market place since I will be at myother table.. but do youhtink timigth be worht it to bring & put on my table regualr table...?

 

The Doubletree is painful to get to by TTC, but there is GO bus service from York Mills or Yorkdale stations that once an hour goes by the airport. It would be a bit more expensive, and I'm not sure it goes right by the DT, but you could phone GO Transit and ask.

I have to admit, as I live downtown and Person airport area = boonies in my book, I'm debating whether or not to go. Sounds whimpy but . . .

 

This may be an inappropriate place for this question, but since Anime North is another anime con I thought this might be okay...

Does anyone know if Anime Expo typically has doll related panels or dealers in the dealers room that sell doll stuff? I went to AX for the first time last year but I didn't pay attention as I wasn't interested in dolls then. I'm going again this year and wondered if I should look out for anything.

 

I havn't seenso in the past, btuyou never know! AX is like.. everythign con now.. *LOL*

 

This will be my first con so I'm excited =O If there will be doll related stuff for sale I'm hoping I'll be able to beg my friends for ten minuets to go look so I can clothe my only doll ;-; She's naked. I was really hoping AN would have a doll section so I'm glad I wasn't let down!

I will be short on space so I will bring my mnf Seorin! I am glad the doll meet isn't too late in the afternoon since i am in the masquerade and my cosplay is a bit hard to get into. I been meaning to do a cosplay for My lil Sebastian but I still don,t know what ummm still have some times ^^

I think I'll be going, I just need to know one thing, do we need to sign up somewhere or pay as you may have to for some Anime North events? (NEVERMIND) I think I'll be bringing all three of my dolls. (Hakon - JD MNM, Ana-liese - LTF Shiwoo and my Limwha ToYou without a name) I've got a few things to sell but I don't know if I can just walk around the marketplace and be like, "Hey, wanna buy a these shoes?" I'm really excited.

I've never been to any sort of dolly gathering, I'm so shy and so the prospect of seeing A LOT of people I'd want to talk to or hold their dolls is scary for me.

I'll be selling a new line of knitted hats (Yo/Unoa, MSD, and SD) size at the doll market. I launched my store at AN last year. I've been a hiatus for a couple months due to school, but I'm happy to be back and share the new knits at AN.

I'll be bringing my modded Unoa Lusis, and my lovely new Migi Owen so they can earn their keep as models, lol.

I want to say hi to everyone, but I don't know how to talk to people! If you see a teenager with asymmetrical short black hair carrying an Abadon dressed like a concubine, please come talk to me. I'll probably be dressed like Azula from Avatar, even though I've never seen the show in my life - my friend I'm going with loves it and wants to stick me in some random costume. Last I heard it'll be Azula.

Please talk to me, though... I'm really friendly, I just have anxiety problems so I'll be sitting in the corner trying not to have a panic attack. *headdesk*

 

Usually 1-2 people will have bjd stuff. Not a lot though so don't rely on it. However we could be surprised. A few people have things in the Artist's Alley/Comic Market.

I've seen people with anxiety problems attend and having had panic attacks myself here's some tips:

First off bring your meds and remember your breathing exercises. Hopefully you will have an understanding friend in tow. The best places to 'cool down' would be in the unused part of the TCC (the REAL front door. AN is the side door facing the parking lot), your hotel room and the back of the Doubletree (most don't wander too far back). Remember their is a first aid areas as well. Do NOT be afraid to tell people you need to withdraw to compose yourself or prepare yourself for a big event. There are going to be massive crowds and a lot of noise so take it slow.

I strongly encourage you to visit the Doll Meet to see other bjders. I assure you we are friendly...we may just look tired. I don't know any DoA member who wouldn't want to talk bjds XD.

 

I totally wish I could make it to AN this year... D: Ever since moving to Norway I've gotten so upset when convention time comes around (especially with FanExpo). I'm sure it's going to be awesome for those of you who can go, though! ^^

 

This is a REALLY good piece of advice for anyone who suffers from anxeity.... casue sometiems it's easy too loose track, having osmeoen to help lead you out is really helpful =3

In terms fo stuff i'm bringign that I've made I'll have skirts that are hand painted =3 so if you have a sweet gir (or a pretty femme boi XD *LO*) I'll have some cute colourful thigns to sell!! As well as second hand stuff (including the 2 full dolls I've been trying to sell allong with a mnf body LOL

I hope I can make it to a meet.. probably not... but I'm sure I'll meet a few peopel... fi you walk by my table with a doll I'll prolly hollar at you to get your attenton!! *LOL* XD

 

oh so i've been meaning to ask, much to my dismay, my first Dollfie doesent arrive till a couple weeks after north, but i'm still looking forward to taking the oportunity to buy some stuff for her, is that going to be possible? is the fact that she's an SD all I need to know? or are there more factors to it?

Pearson Airport in Toronto Canada :3 ironically flying is probly the fastest way, its in the middle of nowhere, so busing is a pain

 

Anything you find for an SD girl should fit your doll, other good measurements to know would be her recommended wig size SD's normally range from 8-9 inches or 9-10 inches. I'd check out the database thread for your particular mold to find out what size eyes she commonly takes, and keep in mind her foot measurement and if they are high-heeled or flat feet if you are looking for shoes. All that info should allow you to buy her everything she would need before she's even at your door

Do we know if there will be any face-up demos/commissions this year? I'm looking for a particular style and I can't seem to find an artist anywhere! That, and I'd feel more comfortable watching the face-up in-person instead of shipping out my precious doll's head. :P

 

Karitsa: Demos no. Demos are usually only at Dolpas (maybe GoGadoll). As for panels, the person who usually does it cannot make it this year. Sadly I regret to tell you I seriously DOUBT a commissioner will be available to do a face-up at Doll North itself as face-ups require a great deal of time, supplies and proper lighting. The only way to watch a face-up would be if your friend did it for you. There are Canadian face-up artists on DoA which you can find after you obtain access to the marketplace here. Bear it mind the head can be at a commissioner for months.


old_king_gold: DiM Loves are equal to Delfs/SD13s on the top but their hips are smaller (about 2cm smaller) meaning pants or skirts could be a problem and may slide. Their feet are larger than Delfs/SD13s by about 0.4cm so not too bad.

 

Oh, that's too bad. I won't have access to the marketplace for another few weeks. Not to mention my post count. I refuse to simply post nonsense just to raise it. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. I'd ask more questions about face-ups, but I'm afraid it would be going off-topic. I wish I personally knew someone who was into BJDs...

Does anyone know if there will be a doll table in the dealers room? I recall seeing some stuff last year, but I didn't bring doll funds and I'd like to shop around for doll things this year now that I am prepared.

 

Quick update on the Doll Masq! Some clarifications have come up:

1) You can enter a pair but keep in mind they will be scored as a single unit . This means one could make or break the score for both of them.

2)Cosplay and Originals are both considered outfits and are grouped together. If the cosplay is of a lesser known character please bring in a reference photo so we can judge you as fair as possible. The judges are familiar with most characters but you never know.

3) We are a small contest since we are brand new and testing the waters so that is why everything is clustered together. It's basically me with judges to help out at the event.

4) It's not going to be as flashy as the Cosplay Masq as I can't get a hold of a stage piece or a camera. Still I hope to make it as fun as possible. We have a lot of amazing talent here in Canada (and the close-by States)and it'll be a great way to share with each other and break the ice for the Doll Meet.

 

I will have 2 msd boys for sale and one mnf boy body...
I won't be at the doll market place becasue I have a dealers table.. .and the dealers room dosnt close till 10 ;;o;; so no doll market for me!!

but I guess that means I'll be selling them all weekend not jsut on friday? lmfaoooo

Another clarification for the Doll Masq:


For the Outfit, Faceup and Photo Comps Workmanship and Visual/Creativity will be judged. Workmanship will be roughly 60% of your mark the other 40% being Visual/Creative.

For the Backstory Comp Creativity/Expression will be 70% while 30% to Workmanship.

Any more questions please don't hesitate to ask! . I want everyone to have the chance to do their best.

I just wanted to let people know, I will be coming with a MASSIVE amount of stuff. I have a ton of company items. Clothing, shoes, accessories, something like 13+ wigs, some extra delf hands, not to mention an SD head I plan to raffle off at Doll North and a pre-order for feral5's Icarus clothing items.

Something else to consider that I'm not sure the others mentioned... I can't speak for everyone who does face-ups of course, but I know for me personally I am incredibly uncomfortable having someone watch me paint, especially their own doll. I've done it a few times now and it's an experience I would not wish to repeat in the future. So it's definitely something you may want to speak to someone about if they're local and you're wanting them to paint your dolls.

The Doll Market is only on friday. A few people in the Dealers (or probably the 3D art or whatever they're calling the off-shoot of Artist Alley this year) may have doll stuff for sale, but no guarantees. Amy of Divinity Dolls was planning to be in the DealersRoom again this year with her AbioAngel dolls and a few clothing/shoe/etc items, last I heard.

For faceups; a reminder again guys that sealants need to be sprayed in a well-ventilated area with proper chemical masks, so it's not really possible for a demonstration or customizer to work at AnimeNorth. The only possibility would be someone local willing to take the head home and bring it back the next day, and the local customizers I know are full for the month and too busy with AN activities anyway.

I'll be wandering around Saturday and attending at least part of the doll meet, carrying some sort of un-decided tinies with me. ; D
