Doll North 2008

Feb 18, 2008

1. I know there were DollNorth activities last year, I believe it was the first time.

2. I still don't know how many tables we might get. We are still talking with the hotel for these. So here is what we are going to do.

This is going to be first come first served basis.

If you want a spot at the Marketplace I might have tables or I may not. I might have just one. so if you want to be in the Marketplace please tell me if you want a table or if you don't really need one.

If you don't really need one, please being a piece of fabric to determinate where your sale shall be. Please do not take unnecessary space if using this method.

I am going to close the Marketplace to 30 spots I think it's a good number for our first attempt at this. I am also going to give you a closing date May 16th. I will be going away after that date so I have to close the marketplace space at that date.

To register yourself you need to give me the following info: E-mail me at [email protected] DO NOT PM ME.... use this e-mail please.

Your name:
Name you will use on your Conbadge:
Floor space or you want to try at getting a table:(note: once the tables are gone they are gone, and since I have no idea how many we will have I can't promise you anything)
What you think you'll be selling:

I will e-mail you back with a NUMBER. I will keep the Number with your name, please do keep the number too. Depending on how many tables we have the number you have will give you presceance . IE Number 1 gets a table, number 2 and so on. This will be first come first serve basis, sorry but this is the best I can do.

I would like to give a few rules over the marketplace:

1- Anime North and Doll north isn't responsible about merchandise and transactions. If a problem occur, seller and buyer have to work it out by themselves.

2- Please have change for your sale we can't provide Change for sellers or buyers.

3- places are limited to 30 so once they are gone they are gone.

Thank you very much and feel free to ask any questions.

4. Do we know if the transit buses will be running between the TCC and the Renaissance between 9-10am on the Saturday? I hope they will be running that early, I'm quite paranoid crossing over the bridge and highway by foot and would prefer to take the between hotel transit if possible, lol.

5. The busses are supposed to be running at that time.. ::checks the website:: They don't say ::sweatdrops:: Iรˆll try to get confirmation =)

6. I had a look at the website which claims the transit buses will run every 30 minutes during peak hours and they don't list the opening time for the con until 10am on Saturday, so I'm unsure if the buses will be running at all before 10.

7. :doh I'm really sorry, but I've got myself all confused again.

We need AN tickets to come to Doll North, when do they open for ticket sales?
I was planning on coming early (around 8:30) so that I don't miss anything and can figure out where everything is and maybe help out with setup etc., but I'm not sure if I can get my ticket in time for that.

If anyone can make sense of that and help me out...again...:sweat...I would be really appreciative.

9. So they open at 9 then? Thank you and sorry for being so much bother.
I was going to preregister, but I could only go one of the days so I figured I would save the $15. If I could go more than one day I would have preregistered weeks ago.

Thank you again and I'll see you there.

10. Oh it's no bother really =) Okay well I'll see you there =)

11. I think I'll have to check out the restringing panel. One of my boys is in need of sueding and I'm a little intimidated by the idea. >.<

Maybe I missed it under a different name but is there going to be a panel on sewing clothes? My sister was interested in that idea.

12. Oh, do we actually get to re-string our dolls there? That would be awesome!! (I suppose we'd probably have to bring our own pliers and stuff) I wonder if anyone would be selling bjd elastic there?

13. mmm I have no idea of people will be selling Doll Elastic. Her panel could turn into a workshop or she could help people later to restring their dolls, you'll have to talk to her about it =) I would suspect you need your own string though.

14. Seems to be at 3:00 on Saturday. :)

15. Thanks! I wondered if that was it but then I figured it was just about trends in doll fashion or something. -_- *sick and not all together with it*

16. For the restringing panel: we have a short spiel and demonstration planned, and then are offering to spend the remaining time adjusting stringing/hot-glue-sueding etc depending on the number of attendees. Our goal is to get owners comfortable with the process of restringing and figuring out how to do this for yourselves. I know both of my fellow panelists are cosplaying all weekend and will be pretty busy; if you need help fully restringing your doll outside of this time we can try to coordinate to do so. We will NOT be providing elastic (as we're fellow collectors, we simply cannot afford it) but we'll have our tools at the panel and possibly later.

17. Sounds like a sweet panel to me. A couple of people have poked at my SooRi at a past meet and they both agree he's strung well but he needs sueding. Sueding scares the hell out of me but more for the fact that I'm putting hot glue on a $600 chunk of resin. ^^; But it'd be nice if he could do something other than kneel. lol

18. yay! im there, first doll meet
^^

19. I'm way too excited for this. x.x Looking forward to the market... <3

20. I am driving to Toronto tomorrow ;) so I'll see all you guys at Doll North =)

21. Wooo, con tomorrow! Hope to see others there! ;_; I missed the big meet last year cause I had to leave early, and this is the first time other will see my new boy!

22. WHOOT!!! Can't wait. it is my first con and Evie is excited.

23. Oh no! Was that a BJD sewing panel? I didn't recognize the name and missed it. :doh I went to the re-string and the makeup tutorial though. They are good. :)

24. THANK YOU EVERYONE! Your participation made Doll North possible so kudos to all of you! ((BIG HUGS))
Next year weรจll probably have a Friday and Saturday Scheduling since Sunday's attendance was low =/ hey live and learn right?

25. It'd be really nice if we could actual set a designated time for a meetup rather than just panels and the flea market. Some of the attendees from last year were anticipating a doll meet on the Sunday similar to the year before, but were disappointed that one was not organized this year.

26. What I think we will do next year is to hold a meet on Sunday. The meet last year was organised by TDAF and I just gave them the space to hold the meet. I am alone organizing Doll North (I will have more help next year) it's a growing experience and I can't think of everything unfortunatly I am only human. But I will put a meetup into consideration more next year.

Perhaps you'd like to vollunteer next year and help plan one?

27. You did a really great job in the organization of Doll North this year ace, don't feel bad in anyway. You did as much as you could and that is excellent and you should feel very good about what you were able to accomplish. I just thought it was important to point out that many guests were anticipating a designated meet up and were surprised that it did not happen. I'd be more than happy to help out with the organization, although my time may be dependent on artist alley commitments I will be undertaking next year. Although there is a whole year ahead of anyone interested in helping out so we'll have all that time to discuss and plan :)

28. Hellooo~

I'm a moderator over at TDAF (Toronto Doll Association Forum), but I wasn't moderating last year around Anime North. I'm not aware of how last year's general meet was set up. This year, we didn't have one because we didn't know if there would be a time or place for us to do it. We did have a very small mini-meet outside the Algonquin Room after Photography 101 on Saturday, but other panels (J Hip-Hop, more specifically) were still going on inside. We also got told to move several times. There just wasn't enough space for us.

Since none of us are staff at Anime North, we were not at all able to book a space for a meet. We thought a time slot would be allotted for a general meet, since that had been the case last year. Unforunately, this didn't happen.

Hopefully next year, a general meet will be available for all doll owners coming to the convention. Last year's meet was very sucessful (with a very large turn out), and I'm not sure why it didn't happen again.

Thank You ♥

29. I will hope to help out again next year. Sorry I couldn't this year. ;_;

30. A sort of impromptou-meet-up occured at the Doll Market once individuals had finished looking around (there were only a few tables). I'd suggest for next year that the first "panel" and also maybe the last be scheduled as doll meets for opening and closing activities. : )
Part of the problem was that people who had to travel etc didn't show up for the earlier activities. As many of us were first-time-panelists we certainly appreciate everyone who showed up and showed patience with our newness!

With AN growing so much larger every year, each activity really has to be scheduled for space, as there really is no leeway with the crowds! I know the Yaoi North activities next door completely blocked access to the DollNorth room much of the time, and many participants were quite rude to people trying to get through.

31. acexkeikai I just wanted to say that you did an awesome job setting all this up and I hope you have more help next year!! Thanks for all your hard work, it was fun! :)

32. Not at all after all if we don't discuss this we can't ameliorate it for next year. I will need to have staff next year because doing all of this all on my own is quite demanding and tiring. We have a year to plan for this! So thank you for your offer to help!

33. LAst year Someone asked for space to hold a meet and I was able to ask AN for a room. With everything going on I didn't think of a meet but I will include it next year. I had a lot to do and I realise now that I can't do it all alone.

34. hey that's ok... I know how things were with you this year so don't worry :D

35. Thank you for pointing this out... I will discuss this with the AN staffers, although there isn't much we can do about rude people... I did have to tell people to either come in or get out but not STAND in the open door where they disturbed the panellist!...

But I will see that the door isn't blocked anymore... or at least I will try.

36. Will there be a Doll North this year?

37. I'm coming from the UK to attend Anime North 2009 mainly to partake in the artist alley like I did last year, but if I have enough room in mah suitcase for a resin fella I may pop in to say hello if a meet does go through! :D

38. jules231: yes there will be Doll North this year also I'll make annoncements later like I told you in the PM.

Lynsey: I hope we'll be able to see you Lynsey :)

39. Ohhh, I'm excited for this again!! Do you need any help setting up?

40. *scuffs feet shyly* I'm really excited for Doll North this year. I went for some of it last year (I was the awkward rambly teenager with short black hair and no doll - but I had a winged rat plushie!) but it was really difficult to talk to people because I had no doll, and all of you seem to know each other.

I'm waiting for my first to ship right now (day 42) so he and I will for sure come this year.

41. Aww don't be shy :D Come say hi :3 It's pretty easy to find me at AN just look for the nut in bright orange dressed as lida or a Tan El in bondage gear :P Most of us know each other from meet ups.

Speaking of which I demand anyone going say hi if you see me :P I'll be running back and forth between my stand in the crafters part of artist alley and doll north :3

42. ;D Shouldn't there be a Doll North 2009 thread?

I will be going this year, and hopefully be in Ren hotel this year where it would be more beneficial to me. :V : D
