Doll-Love (also known as DollLove) Mini Discussion Thread

My boy measures out as 46cm tall. He's from 2011 and I assume they haven't made any major changes to the boy bodies since then. I'm not sure if it matters for height but he's a God-Enjoy head on the boy body. I don't have DiM or Impl in MSD size so can't help there. But I do have AoD from 2008 (they've since change their bodies), RS boys from different years, Camilla Dynasty, MNF, DearMine, Illusion Spirit and OrientDoll if any of them would help.

 

Oh thank you, that helps a ton! I wonder how much AoD has changed their bodies...but if you care to share any extra photos of your Doll Love that shows more of his detail I would really appreciate it If not, thanks very much for letting me know his height, he's a taller boy and that's great!

 

AoD used to do wonderfully muscular MSD's as well as a beautiful tan. They just... stopped doing both those one day with pretty much no warning. Doll-Love and AoD are sister companies and the AoD boy bodies are now more in line with the slender look of the Doll-Love bodies.

This is Dak. I bought him in WS and had him dyed blackest black. He doesn't have a face-up and he'll never have one. The only thing I added was wickedly long eyelashes. Most people never even notice that he doesn't have a face-up until I point it out.


As you can see, there's not a lot of detail to the bodies but if you're looking for a slender boy, they're definitely the right line. He also stood like a rock straight out of the box and I've never needed to suede him or anything. He's got a decent range of motion and there's a nice heft to him but he's not super heavy. There were also zero seam lines on him anywhere.

This is the only nude shot I have of him, but if you want/need more pics or want to see him next to other MSD's I can do that for you.

 

That is wonderful, thank you so much! You describe him as slender, and is that strictly because of his style of sculpting, or because he's just a thin doll overall? What I mean is, I know MNFs have a very muscular option for their boys, but overall I've found their dolls to be on the smaller side. Same with BBBs and RS's, they are very thin dolls overall. Personally I'm used to dolls with a little more "heft" if you will, even if they are slender, so I'm hopeful a Doll Love body will still have that.

 

I'd say it's style of sculpting more than him actually being skinny. If you'd like, I can take some pics of him next to my RS boys, my MNF (which is the beauty line body) and the old AoD body, which is quite muscular. Dak's husband, Tyhlian, is an OrientDoll and comparison there isn't going to help you much as the OD dolls are smaller than a lot of MSD's in height, head size and general body shape.

I can take photos tomorrow but the quality may not be stellar as the lighting in my apartment sucks in general and is even worse when the day is overcast like tomorrow is supposed to be in my area.

 

Do the 1/4 size dolls wear a 7-8 inch wig? I just want to be sure before I start down the road on buying all the goodies for my new doll.

Your boy looks awesome, @Iron_Dog! Great dye job! I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to dye a doll.

My Hugh wears a 7-8" wig.

 

He turned out great although I wasn't the one to dye him as I wasn't that brave. I sent him out to a modder to do it for me. I think I would be confident enough now to dye a doll, but he was dyed several years ago and I was worried about messing him up so off to a modder he went.

 

I want to share Sparks again because he now has a body And a smashing outfit. (and a backpack, because of all the touring his character does)

I did not know it was possible, but this young man is growing on me even more.

It snowed today, so I decided to snap some photos of my DL Hugh outside. The snowman is actually an artificial one I made using recycled paper and glue. (Today's snow was too soft to build with.)

He is a cutie~! He kind of reminds me of a character I for in the works (he will also be blond and blue eyed), plus I am a bit of a sucker for the half lidded eyes. And funny enough, my first doll was also a doll-love boy who happens to be 3 years old too!

 

Cool! And same xD they're gorgeous. I've thought of getting that sculpt as an older brother and Anona as a sister but it would have meant two more in yellow skin and I'm not actually a very big fan of yellow skin. Kaylyn actually turned 4 in june ^ - ^

I received, faceupped and dressed my Youyou/Loongsoul hybrid today And I figured I'd post a photo here in case anyone was curious about what the 1/4 Youyou head looks like outside of company photos. It can't be seen in this photo, but her forehead is HUGE >w< I love her.

Oh, and I forgot that I did photgraph her before the faceup and matchy blushing, so people could see what she looks like blank, as well as how the NP resin matches with the Loongsoul NP Sorry I didn't post it before. Her eyeholes are slightly uneven shaped, which I think gives her a slightly more realistic feeling since people are never 100% symmetrical.

Hi, been snooping this thread a bit since I just recently put a Kaja on layaway, and I was wondering if any of you that own a Kaja would be willing to show me photos with various size eyes? I know that his listing is 14-16mm but I know that sometimes the 'right' size eyes are different than what is recommended by the companies. I've picked out some eyes I'm in love with on Etsy that I want to get for him, but I would love to know what eye size would look best.

 

I don't have a Kaja but 14mm is most likely correct. I can't really imagine his eyes being smaller, y'know? My Arefa does wear 16mm but his eyes are really wide and you can hardly even see the pupils xD

 

Thanks, I know I could probably wait until he's here and all that, but since the eyes I want to order will take about a month and a half or so to get to me I would rather get them ordered when I get paid next month so I have less wait time for getting him all together.

Congrats on your incoming Kaja! I don't own Kaja, but I use 12mm in my Hugh.

I made a comparison of 14mm VS 12mm years ago in him. Dunno if it'll help you, but here's a photo:

Oooh Thanks for that! It does help, especially since Hugh is listed to use the same size eyes as Kaja. Both look great, so now I gotta try and figure out which size I want to go with. xD I love his wig btw! I wouldn't mind getting one in a similar style but color is going to be tricky since I want mostly white with just a bit here and there black (streaks/dip dye sorta thing)

The picture is a little bit dark, but here he is with Mr. Fluffy the cat fur ball He got Soom ears, paws and tiptoe paws, and a long fluffy tail to match his style now. And a toothless knit hat

He need to get his cat parts blushed oneday and maybe a more cat like face up. But I'm not ready to send him away to get painted just yet.


Taking off his little stockings to show of his little tiptoe paws It's difficult not having fingers anymore. He's just learning how to be a cat (meow)

Oh, and for anyone who's interested, the old SOOM cream white skin matches perfectly Doll-Love ws.

 

He's such a cute little kitty!!! I wanted to make Kaylyn and his lil sister Onyx unicorns at one point but alas spending about the amount that a doll costs on hooves isn't what I wanna do right now. xD I now have to get not just MOST of their cousins but ALL of their cousins...

Kaylyn and his sister would make such cute unicorns But I can understand not wanting to spend that much money on parts. Salem still have his old body but I were lucky to find cat parts for him. I just could not resist getting him cat parts.

I don't know if you play Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy 9 have a really cool horned summoner girl.

My Kaja arrived yesterday morning! So excited to add him to my doll family! His size is taking a little getting used to since all my other bjds are 16cm and below, but I really do love his size!
His name is Vish and eventually he'll have different clothes and wig, but these work for now and I didn't want him to have to sit around naked and bald until I found/made something for him to wear.

Can't wait till I can get him a proper photoshoot but I took this quick one of him for now.

Thanks! I am really excited to have him home, he spent yesterday sitting either beside me or in my lap all day.
And of course now I can see myself getting some more dolls in this size, just wish I could have unlimited space for them.

 

I've semi decided the one reason I will reshell Onyx and Kaylyn is if I ever find myself in possession of full Shale and Beyla bodies in NS... then I'll buy NS Arefa and Ran xue heads...

 

Congrats on your new Kaja! He's one of my favorite sculpts, and I still love mine years after getting him. What style do you have planned for him?

 

Kaja was almost my first doll, but I ended up putting him off for a while, now that I have him it's hard to know where I want to start. xD
So far I've replaced his eyes with the green ones he's got in the pic and ordered him a pair of high boots off of evil-bay, and have the yarn for the wig I want to make him, but the rest of it is kind of up in the air.
Vish is a character I've had for years and years (like 2004-2005) and he's changed over the years so I'm not sure how being in doll form will affect him. I know he's sort of like a fantasy type character who's been put into the 'real world' and has slowly become a bit more settled into our world. So he'll probably have a mixture of modern and fantasy in his style, not sure yet how I will pull all of it off though.

 

Sorry for the double post but it's been a while. Been playing a lot with Vish and he's now got a new wig and some jewelry. I'm loving having a bigger doll around though I'm a little intimidated about getting clothing made for him after having been sewing so much for the tiny size.

But honestly, Kaylyn's being reshelled as an Akagidoll Janz, which means the maturity is gonna have gone up for my adult male dolls, except from on my Soom Tuff, who's still 18, he's just a cute childish character... basically I'm thinking of changing my Arefa, Sullivan, into a pastel boy rabbit character... Salem is like, Arefa goals... xD

 

You are so much braver than I am Calabri I don't think I could ever dye any of my dolls as much as I love a lot of the results I see, I just know I'd find a way to screw things up and end up with a totally blotchy/messed up doll, though I'd love to sometime get a tiny in a pale grey-blue resin.
