Omg I feel this. I need to thin out a handmade yarn wig, but even still I'm nervous about cutting it. There's a tutorial here about cutting shorter wigs. I know it says fur/mohair, but I think the idea is the same.

Hi, I just made first payment for a layaway for Pearl :O In white skin, no face-up, new body version. I couldn't resist her she's so enchanting! ;-; (just hope I made the right choice for body.... I've seen comparisons so I know the pros and cons but still). She might turn into a character of mine named Siallu, or rather, a younger version of her since currently she should look older than Pearl with a different body type (argh I need bigger boobs), but yeah. Still undecided but I already bought her eyes anyway lol. I painted a mock face-up in SAI. I prefer normal skin but the character is supposed to be almost paper white.
I'll probably only receive her a year from now?... and I hope to see some other owner photos of her before that :v
Ah I plan to have a Teresa and a Lan some day too ;-; I love current DL style and I have this thing for elves lol...

Hello!! I am curious if anyone has any experiences, information, or better yet, photos of the Doll Leaves "Betty" head with the elaborate face-up - the one with the lacy white flower tattoo.

I've searched everywhere - DoA, Flickr, the web in general - for any information/photos of this doll, with this face-up from owners of the doll (as opposed to the promotional photos, which are of course, stunning!)

I'd love to see her with different wigs/clothes, etc. The Betty doll head alone (no body) with this particular face-up is around $150 - so that is quite the gamble to just use my doll money to go ahead and buy her.

I'd been planning on buying a blank-faced doll because I want to learn to do face-ups, but finding Betty with this face-up has altered that plan! She is such a work of art. I've even been getting ahead of myself and have been daydreaming about what kinds of dresses might go with that face - and I'm not even at all confident about buying this doll yet!

So if anyone could post reviews or point me in the right direction, I would be really grateful! Thank you in advance!

Just as a heads up,

it looks like Doll Leaves is taking a ~9 month wait time currently. I bought a Doll Leaves Louis & Ben head when they released in late April/early May, and DDE believes it’ll probably a 3-4 month wait before I get them. Some people have gotten them already, so maybe we’ll get lucky - not sure! Though I'm not sure if either will stay... we will see. ^^;

Ordered end of July, orders dispatched early december so that's 5 months? So looks like they've hopefully started to get back to their normal wait times.

Which is a relief.

 

I think I ordered in early august and my doll is shipped! So it's actually a little less than a 5 months wait for me. I ordered with Newcloversinging, and I must say her wait times for dolls for now were always faster than I expected. Which is nice.
Can't wait to get my Louis!

 

My Ben and Augus are out for delivery now! Dang Yodel is quick!

 

Here's Ben so far!

He has a really interesting face, it reminds me a lot of doll chateau and similar.
Much like the other doll leaves heads he has a wonky nose (both the nostrils are uneven like Jeremy's AND the actual nose tip skews to one side just like my nose hahaha) and he also has a divot only in one side of the lip which is... a bit wierd.



Here's all three new boys. Jeremy arrived on his own while Augus and Ben turned up today. Not sure why as all three were ordered at the same time, go figure.

Clover Singing forgot the wig I ordered so i'll email about that but otherwise i'm delighted.

 

@purple_monkfish - How do you find the ver02 boy body compared to the ver01? Is the engineering better?

 

The version 1 body is slightly better at posing but it's only slight. He holds his arms and knees stronger because the peanut is longer and chunkier. He also has more mobility in his wrists because they sit more proud of the lower arm.
however, the type 2 body has actual notches in the waist and chest joints allowing slouching which the type 1 body doesn't have (it has ONE notch in the chest and none in the waist?) and the type 2 body has more normally shaped mobility joints in the thigh. I can't quite work out how the hell the strange shaped wavy ones are meant to work with the type one body.

Overall, i'd say each body has their own pros and cons and end up fairly comparable. However, I did find that the bigger heads look a little bobbleheaded on the type 1 body and Augus looks really pinheaded on the taller body so I swapped him and Jeremy around. I think the proportions are a bit better. Augus has quite a small head compared to Jeremy and Ben (Ben has a big ol' noggin)

I do like how dinky and short the type 1 body is though, it's adorable and satisfyingly chonky.
I was actually surprised that NONE of the parts are the same with the two bodies, they have totally different feet and hands even which surprised me.



I love the body variety.

And thanks for the body comparison. I admit I like the chonkiness of type 1, but type 2 is more detailed and looks more refined (and proportion wise works better for an elf, taller and lanky).

I got Jeremy done tonight. I'm in love with him.

I've wanted this sculpt for a while now and every time I see other people's I go "ooo cute!" but there's something special about finishing up a faceup, stepping back and going "there he is!" as the doll just comes to "life" (so to speak)
It's incredible and exciting to me how much a faceup changes a doll's expression.

His wig isn't here yet, he'll eventually get a pale pink wig but he's otherwise pretty much finished and i'm very pleased.

I've really enjoyed painting my doll leaves boys, i'm always nervous working on pale resin but they've been very cooperative and it's been a while since I worked on resin, it's always nice to sit down and work on a faceup, I really enjoy painting resin far more than literally any other sort of doll (which I tend to find really stressful instead)

Now I have Augus left to do but his faceup is rather complicated (He's a clown boy) so i'm gonna have to work up my courage to tackle that.

 

@purple_monkfish Oh, he came out lovely! I do like the Jeremy sculpt, although I tend to hold out for elf ears. Love his outfit too!
Also, I think I said this before in another thread, your Ben also came out lovely. I think I may get him in the future too! He has a lovely profile.

Ben has a facinating face. I wasn't totally sure if i'd like him in the flesh/resin but I took the gamble figuring if it didn't work then I could use the body for one of my floating heads anyway.
His chin isn't nearly as pronouced from profile as the images DS took suggest though, which is a relief as that's the feature I was most worried about.

But he's SO different to their other sculpts, it's like.. a whole different style and it's facinating. Different artist?

YAY Louis arriving! Yodel right? they're ridiculously quick. Jeremy got here in FOUR days and the other two took Six but only because there was a weekend.
That is just incredible. I'm used to EMS taking like 10 days to the UK which I always thought was pretty speedy but 4 days from Yodel is just like.. whaaa?

I can see more DS dolls in my future. I really like Lan and Pearl but I really wish they'd offer their grey for ALL their sculpts so I could get some variation nghh.

 

Yeah, I know what you mean! I held off on ordering him because I wanted to see some pics from owners before I decided. After seeing yours, though, I definitely think I could go for him! Even the little imperfections make him an interesting boy, I think that's part of the reason I like Doll Leaves so much. After all, real people's faces aren't perfectly symmetrical either!

Ben really does have nice lips, and such a lovely grumpy expression. And those ears! He might just be from a different artist, would be interesting to know!

I think my Louis came from YANWEN? Either way, he's now with FedEx in my state, and arriving tomorrow at some point! I was getting a wee bit nervous since I'm leaving for a week and a half to visit my parents for the holidays on Friday, but looks like everything worked out okay! I'm a little concerned about another parcel I have coming from Hong Kong that contains doll clothes, but hopefully that'll get delayed until I get back.

Now I get to plan out my little toothy boy's face. I might actually do him at my parent's house, which means I will have a fascinated audience. My parents don't really get my thing for dolls, but they are happy it makes me happy and love when I do artistic stuff like painting their faces.

 

Okay, so I may have been a bit overeager and immediately face-upped my new arrival when he got here! Couldn't help it, I was just so excited! Louis turns out to be even cuter in person, the little ears are so adorable, and his expression is so sweet!

 

She's been holding onto this mini pumpkin since the Halloween season, but I figured it was about time to get rid of it. Not without taking a picture first, though.

 

My Clown boy is faceupped but he doesn't have proper eyes yet and stole some of another doll's just for this pic.
he looks extremely creepy with the default yellow ones he came with but less so with these green ones.

@purple_monkfish For the v1 boy body's mobility thigh joints, I think that the inside "peanut" is too short, and the notch too shallow. I've seen other bodies that pose well with the wavy mobility joint, at least. Thanks for the comparison photo!

I hope that helps! I so wish that Doll Leaves sold pairs of hands separately!

I'd love the poseability of the v1 3-part body - but those hands - they are just... awful. It seems like such a little thing, but they really bug me. . The v2 2-part body hands are so much more graceful, and it looks like more thought was put into their sculpting. It's close to a dealbreaker for me. Unlike the waist-joint, the hands won't be covered up beneath clothing.

I'm also curious if any other company has hands that are sold separately and would work with and have a close resin-colour match to the Doll Leaves normal skin or white resin colours.

I see Doll Leaves has jointed hands but they are just so... skeletal.

I'm also curious if there are bodies from other companies that would work with Doll Leaves heads - in terms of proportion, colour, attachment mechanism, etc.?

 

I use a pair of Dikadoll female hands on mine. I have posted pictures of this several times before, including earlier in this thread, if you want to check it out. Both are in white.

Resinsoul normal is practically a perfect match, I have their jointed hands on both my boy and girl Doll Leaves bodies

Hello! Joining this thread with my Doll Leaves Betty (also my first BJD). I made her yarn wig and put a temporary outfit on her because I’m going to try to make clothes for her later.

I got Louis today! Super happy, for the money I spent I can say it’s a very nice doll. His head is very detailed, and the body looks like it can pose nicely. Now I must decide what to do with him, he can’t stay naked forever! He needs clothes.
I even got green eyes which were the ones I wanted (but I think I may use smaller iris for him, tomorrow I’m gonna try a pair I have on a floating head and see which looks best).

Wigs came in and i'm honestly thinking more and more that Ben needs a bigger body. The type 2 ds body still makes him look a bit bobbleheaded. It's wierd because his head is still 6-7inches but it's egg shaped and for whatever reason it results in a larger face/head than the other boys.
I think he'd look awesome on a lanky 50cm body but DS have such a pale resin colour i'm not sure what would match. I mean something like doll chateau or dream valley would be the right proportions I think, but I don't think any of their resins would match.

maybe he'll look less bobble headed with clothes. those are en route.

btw, I have some resinsouls here if anyone wants to see if they can be swapped.

 

@purple_monkfish - Here I have my doll leaves normal head on a dream valley normal pink body and next to him is dream valley normal yellow. You may have to sand the neck down depending on the size of the neck hole on the head and/or your personal preference.

@purple_monkfish you're right DS normal is super pale! It actually looks more like a creamy white than a normal. But I think you could match it easily on a darker body with some color matching on his faceup, it shouldn't be too much of an issue since the head is lighter colored.
As for head size, actually Louis head is... Small! Which is perfect cause it doesn't look bobble headed, but weird for my wigs cause now they're too big for him (while they fit my Jeremy head well).

 

oo that's not bad. i feel like the lankiness might suit Ben, but i'll see how I feel once his clothes arrive.
I'm still adjusting to the new wigs, you know how it's all a bit wierd when a doll gets a new wig after sitting bald or in a temp one for ages and you have to like.. readjust to seeing them in their proper state? lol.

I'm about to order a MSD Lan and was wondering (because I dont really like the normal Hands) if I should order some jointed hands. I order everything from Alice's Collections and they have quite the range when it comes to hands.

Does anyone know if the Doll Legend color fits with the resin of the normal DL? If so, which one of them would fit best?

Hi! I finally got my first doll in, a Doll Leaves v1 Large bust, but I'm a bit anxious about buying clothes for her. I've looked at measurements but I'm still a bit nervous when it comes to some of the nicer outfits. I'm just curious if anyone has pictures or tips on good companies to buy from.

 

Does anyone know if the Lan fullset is limited-time? I want to get her for my birthday in June, but the earliest I'll be able to put in a layaway order will be in a month or two, ideally I'd like to wait a bit more but I'm anxious that I'll miss out on this beautiful doll. I ask specifically about the fullset since I'm only interested in the doll with the faceup/clothes/etc, I don't think I would want the blank doll on its own.

 

I have Doll Leaves dolls, but have never ordered new. However, it does seem some dolls are available as a full set for an extended amount of time. I don't know for certain, but I imagine they have a set amount of wigs and outfits available, and once that amount has sold, they are gone. I only say this based on looking at the site over the course of a few years.

 

HERE she’s available as fullset, so I guess you can still order it? Maybe try to mail the dealer of your choice and ask if it will always be available or not to be sure, but for what I know I don’t think fullsets are limited, unless it’s specified.

 

I don't think she's limited... she's under the basic option of the menu. I home you can get her when the time is right for you! They are really nice dolls! I have a couple of them, one being a mini I've not introduced yet. I'd certainly recommend the company and think you will be pleased!

 

It takes some months till my girls are with me. But because I ordered them naked I wanna start sewing some clothes already.

Could someone with a MSD Ver.2 Girl Body help me out with some measurements?

I need the following:
length of the neck (with head on)
length of the torso from shoulder to hip
lenght of the body from shoulder to feet
lengt of the thighs (hip to knee)

I'm also curious about this! I ended up ordering her with the first body because the shoulders on the second body are too slim for me... On that note, does anyone know what other company bodies fit nicely with DL heads? Or resin match wise for WS? I haven't had the chance to skim through the whole thread yet.

 

Well I got my heads out and had a play now I have these dollleaves bodies here.

I wasn't keen on Gayane's (I think) head on the doll leaves type 2 body, it seemed too narrow in the shoulders but Annabeth's head, despite being more egg shaped (thus I think it takes a size 7-8 wig rather than 6-7) seems to be narrower in the jaw so works with the spindly boy body.

I'm thinking Gayane will need a slightly broader body. The doll leaves boy body claims to be 9cm at the shoulder so i'm gonna need to narrow my list down to anything that's more than that. I'm leaning toward either the dfh "soft" body or the legend doll "smooth" (lol smooth) body. Both of which have wider shoulders and broader shaped bodies which might balance that chubby head out a bit more.
Gem have a nice boy body as well but I don't know if it'd match at all. Impldoll could work as well but nghh.

see now i'm obsessing again.

Anyway the good news is that Annabeth has a body.
the bad news is that I still need two bodies and to decide what i'll do with the doll leaves head who Annabeth stole the body of lol.

 

I have two Girls on their way to me. And I heard from multiple sources that DLs hand articulation is not the best.

Did anyone find a solution for that? Hands from other companys? Or a Diy workaround?

 

Ben arrived last week! He took almost exactly five months, as I ordered him in August. I’ll post some pictures tomorrow when it’s light out. Also, I got an email a few days ago saying that my Jeremy had been shipped, which is pretty crazy since I ordered him at the beginning of November, so it’s barely been three months!

So my doll leaves order arrived today! I am so sad though -- something happened at some stage or another, and Louis' ear is snapped off and I can't find the ear tip I've sent my dealer a message, so we'll see how that goes... It's a shame I can't find the tip since he would be a lot more fixable. I'm not sure if I'll have to send him back to the dealer or what yet, but poor thing. Not a fun thing to see after waiting 9 months, for sure! Luckily Ben and the Dream girl body seem to be pristine, at least.

Joining the thread with my Jeremy sculpt, Suimin. I purchased him secondhand last year, and he has his company faceup (he came to me after losing his lashes and I have yet to replace them).



He is wearing Resinsoul NS girl jointed hands, as I like how slender and petite they are.

Duncan and Royal are also en route from DDE, and I will share them once I complete their faceups. My best friend has an Angelo on the way, too.

DDE actually has quite a large amount of DS in stock right now, for anyone looking!

 

@dizzymoon Your boy looks absolutely darling! I really like the Jeremy sculpt, but mine isn't ready for photos quite yet. That's exciting that your friend has Angelo and your others are on the way home! It's like the dolly jackpot! I like the look of those hands. I would not know from the photo they were not made just for him if you hadn't mentioned it. They look to be a really good match! His outfit is really cute, I like how you put it together with the hat, vest and the black top with separated sleeves.

 

Still haven't received my Kira I ordered from DDE back in July of 2020 and they won't answer the two emails I've sent.
