Doll Leaves Mini [45 cm] Discussion part 2

Willow's such a lovely girl I'm so jealous, I wish I could have gone to Dollism, it would have been amazing! I remember someone posted a picture of a bunch of dolls eating at a little ramen shop, so adorable! Although I'm fairly positive I would have been tempted to buy a new doll on the spot so maybe it's better I didn't go

Doll-leaves MSD boys like Maya and Wish are Slim Minis, and most regular sized MSD clothes will be too big on their thinner bodies. The one awesome thing about Alice Collections is that they are very open to making custom sized clothes, and they are very sweet when responding. If you see an outfit on there that you like, drop them a message asking if they do custom sizes for that particular outfit. I ordered a custom-sized Chinese gown for my boy, and it fits perfectly because they told me exactly how I needed to measure him for it to be just right

Minifee and Unoa clothes should fit quite nicely, and you can also find these on Etsy. While I love my boy to pieces, his slim size does make it a little difficult to find clothes, more so than it would if I had a regular MSD. For this reason, I probably won't be getting another slim mini size again.

 

Does anyone know if you can put a doll leaves head on a doll chateau (original: hugh, colin) body? Do any of the resin colors match? Does .5cm make a big difference at the neck?

The Wish boy I've been waiting for came in! Here he is with my Royal. They're buds. He'll need darker eyebrows, but his default faceup is so pretty!

The fit was not bad, and white resin matches well. The normal may be harder to match, since DC has normal pink and normal yellow, and both tend to vary. Pink may be too pink, and yellow may be too yellow and dark to match Doll Leaves, but pink is probably closer.

What skin colors do Doll Leaves come in? I've thought about getting a leaves(since they are running an awesome deal for christmas) but I really want to get a tan doll. Do they come in tan, and how is their movement/poseability?

 

Their posing is amazing, though personally I would slacken their strings a tinsy bit to get some extra movement.

 

I think doll leaves only does tan for events

 

Their posing is pretty good, but my boy had pretty kicky legs. I suggest sueding the thigh joints so they don't move around. And as for tan, I don't think they've done tan in a long time. So aside from a few event grey dolls, the only colors are white and normal pink.

 

I don't think they've ever offered all their sculpts in tan, but will offer some boys in tan from time to time (though not in a long time now). And I find my Amara's posing to be the best of all my dolls, by far. And for the record, I prefer tan dolls, but I've loved everything about her so have no regrets

 

Gah seriously contemplating getting one of these adorable dolls! ...Only issue is I really can't settle on a single sculpt that I like more than any of the others! ...Wish and Maya both have a gorgeous simplicity to them; and Kira really looks very elfin... and Royal has the most adorable chubby cheeks...

As for the tan dolls - I've noticed that Jeeryama still lists a few of them as available too - not sure how accurate that is; but I'd guess a couple of the dealers bought a few when they were still being made?

Edit: Hrmm leaning towards either Maya or Wish (The two sculpts that made me pay attention to this company in the first place - I think of them as "classics" in my head because of that! ) it's now a choice between a little elfin guy with fantastic bone structure or an adorably vulnerable looking kid... (Either way they're going to be a tag-along to my other MSD child-character; a Dollzone Freddy-2. Hrmm I'm thinking human-dupe is more likely than elfling inadvertantly hanging around with a demon!)

 

[MENTION=62283]Vetinari[/MENTION] if you're stuck between two sculpts, Doll Leaves has an event now that if you buy a doll you can get another same size head for free. So you'd really benefit from it!

 

Ooh - thanks! Methinks I'm definitely going to take advantage of that information! (Though I strongly suspect that both of them will end up on separate bodies eventually...)

Edit: ...Okay I'm terrible - I made the mistake of looking at the photos of the blank head sculpts... I'm having a 3-way debate in my head between Maya, Wish and a male Vivian...

 

They had a very short event where you cold order any of their 1/4 dolls in tan, but that was two years ago now. I know of a tan Amara and she is gorgy.

 

So, I actualyl ordered a doll leaves body for another doll head I had, but it was during the previous event, and I could get a Vivian head for free....who was going to be my practice head. It turns out now that I got around painting her, she had claimed her body back and..I'm just totally thorn

(Even had to try the head back on so fast that I forgot to put the eyelashes on XP)

First time I try to make a faceup ever- it was a msitake to choose a head with teeth to try!

She looks really sweet I love how you've done the whole eye area - and I think you did a good job on the teeth! (My first attempt at teeth involved a misguided attempt at a pale yellowish wash over white... It failed)

Finally settled on a Wish from Jeeryama since she's always been a reliable dealer in my experience, and the elfling character he's going to shell is one of my more major child characters. Just waiting to see if she's taking part in the event. (If she is I'm thinking of a getting a Vivian head too!)

goshogee, if you've seen how much my hand was shaking when i was painting the eyebrows and eyelashes you'd have known it was my first try!

Has anyone noticed casting issues with their doll? When I received mine I noticed that the inside of the headcap where the eyes are and inside of the neck seem kind of patchy and rough? Not like smooth resin like the rest of the body is. Also a minor complaint is that one of his calves is slightly bigger than the other.

I mean they're not defective or broken but I thought it was strange.

Does anyone know of any good photos comparing the boy and girl (small bust) bodies? My character is younger, so I'm trying to decide which body would be best to mod for a flat-chested child..Thanks!

Thanks so much! That does help clear up some stuff for me, as I love that the boy body is shorter, but the bulkier hands might bother me...decisions, decisions! LOL, why do I have to be so picky?! : P

 

Oh, man, I've only had one MSD before but now I have a Lusis head (plans for a DC) body and I am gonna need some severe convincing to not get the new Grey Sleeping Amara... I LOVE HER!!!

 

There's just something so beautiful about the gray skin, I'd totally get her if I could afford her, too! I plan to make Vivian my little victorian ghost girl, so a very limited palette of white & off/white. Now if I can just settle on a wig choice & decide on modding the boy or girl body...

I'm just really hoping they release that sleeping Amara head in their normal resin. Gunn and Willow totally need that.

 

I can vouche for the calves. One of the calves on my doll is longer then the other. I had to measure them both to be sure it was the calves that is making her off balance. Sure enough one calf was 10.3 cm and other other was 10.8cm .5 cm difference. It's not noticeable that one side is longer, the posing and standing takes some adjusting.

 

I experienced the same thing. I ordered my a boy Vivian during their summer event. In the head (around the neck area) the resin was very rough, it looked as if the S-hook had done this damage (?). Though everything works fine. I can take off/put on the head without any problem.
But still wonder what was the cause of this mishap :-\

OK, I just must have no talent for searching threads and forums, but I'm really interested in seeing Doll Leaves default faceups on the msd dolls, especially on Vivian, Amara, Royal, and Flora, in particular. That free faceup deal with the Xmas event is tempting me, even though I know it will add to delivery time, lol. Any suggestions on places to see owner pics? I've heard they differ a bit from the pics offered on the company site, but not actually seen examples of how so...

Here is my Amara when she had her default faceup. I tried looking for a pic of her without hair in my feed, but to no avail. Guess I never took any. Her eyebrows are a nice light brown and not too thick or thin. I only changed her faceup to make her a little more original and match her brows and lashes to her dark hair.

Hello all. I've been stalking this thread for a hot lil minute. Amara's big ole eyes had me at hello and this Christmas event is tempting me. I've never owned a 1/4 doll so this uncharted territory.

What size eyes can Amara take? Also wig size? I've read that these are considered slim msds so I'm thinking maybe minifee clothes and shoes will work?

I'm most likely going to order directly from the company, which will be a first for me also. I normally go through a dealer or the marketplace. Hoping the extra shipping cost will be worth it for a little bit shorter wait time... maybe. I know events usually lengthen the wait time.

Congrats on your order rabidshehamster! My Amara (Gunn) still has her company faceup, if you'd still like a photo? It's slightly different than Willow's company faceup. (xkelpiex and I sometimes go to the same meetups, lol) I've got 14mms in Gunn right now, but she wore 16mm for awhile. As for wigs, 7-8 with a stretchy cap should work.

 

does anyone have any comparison shots of doll leaves white and withdoll white / cream white / normal that they could share?

 

I have 14 mm in Willow right now, but if you like the big iris look then 16 mm will definitely fit. I buy almost all her clothes off of etsy under the terms "slim msd", "minifee", and "unoa". I just recently managed to find some shoes to fit her, and yes, I believe they are minifee shoes. And MasahtiJade is right about the wigs

 

I ordered the faceups on the Royal heads, and plan to do the faceups on Vivian and Amara myself. Can't wait to see them in person : )

 

Hi everyone! I'm happy to be joining this thread. I just bought my Gabriel from the MP and love her! I'm going to give her a new face up and body blushing after I restring her and hot glue her joints. The top piece in her torso was detached from the lower which was shown in her MP ad but I'm not concerned since I can glue it. But what type of glue have any of you used to hold it tight?

I fell in love with DL after buying a Lian and Arwen on the MP. I wanted them to practice face ups on but am now a big fan of DL. Their resin is so smooth and the bodies pose so beautifully. I want to take advantage of their Christmas special and get another MSD. I'm thinking about a white skin Lillith? But I'm not sure yet. I am so very happy with my Gabriel! Here she is!

You make clothes?! (Just noticed!) Wouldn't the whole rubber band thing weaken your doll's internal rubber bands? Which would lose their ability to spring back into shape, in the end making them too loose?

 

I'm so glad to have found this! I am quite taken with the Amara and Dora MSD sized heads, as they remind me of Not Doll Labs Belladona and Aletheia with their massively oversized eyes and up turned noses. I adore DC bodies and have been looking for hybrid info for Doll Leaves Heads on DC girl bodies so this helps a lot. I already own a WS DC Alberta so I may just order the Amara head and wait to see if it works on her neck first. Happy Happy!

 

Yayyy, my Vivian, my friend's Amara, and our 2 Royal heads arrived today : D They're gorgeous, and I've been busily faceupping all day (all my girls plus the newbies are getting new faceups for the holiday, lol). All done except glossing, eyelashes, and 1 more faceup then will take some pics once the last of the eyes/wigs/clothes arrive (hopefully soon).
I love the Amara sculpt so much, I'll definitely have to get one next event, haha!
