Doll Chateau Kid Dolls Discussion: Part 9

Sep 25, 2019

    1. Thank you!! :) One day I'll work up the courage to dye her and start her face up.

    2. It's too hot in Poland for dolls today. It's too hot for anything.
      Your dolls're fantastic!

    3. Ohhhh she’s stunning!!! I’m currently working on a faceup for a DC Elizabeth, I’ll share here soon when I finished her faceup, such a stunning sculpt!

    4. Thank you so much dears!

    5. Thank you! :) I'd love to see what you do for your Elizabeth's face up!

    6. Oh!!!!! their horns look so beautiful ;;;;; also their wigs look really natural? It's a bit of a weird word choice but they fit really well with the sculpt and their clothes and the overall aesthetic!

ahhh she looks so ethereal!! the blue of her eyes is also a nice contrast of deep colour too!

    7. I am finally getting around to making a wig for Charon. I am just learning so it isn't that great but it is better then my previous attempts so I am slowly improving. I just have to make the part now.

    8. Thank you! The eyes were only supposed to be temporary but I've really grown to love them in her! :D

Wig making does take many an attempt to learn, don't worry. It's looking good so far and as long as you keep practicing you can only get better! :)

      • x 1
    9. @Quiet and Insane : Thanks. That's what I keep telling myself. The wig won't be perfect right away but as long as it's better then my previous attempts.

    10. That's a good outlook to have! :)

    11. Here’s a new faceup I did on Doll Chateau Elizabeth, she’s such an amazing sculpt. Super cute[IMG]

    12. Oh my goodness, what a stunning face up! :D You've done an incredible job!

      • x 2
    13. Oh yes! You’ve done an amazing job indeed. I love how you’ve really brought out the beauty of this sculpt. She’s positively gorgeous!:)

    14. Thank you so much for your kind compliments! I love this sculpt after working on it, she’s so gorgeous

    15. I finished making Charon's wig. The part didn't turn out and it looks horrible. But it was good practice. I am going to eventually cut the hair off the cap and reuse it. But for now she has hair.

Does anyone else just love brushing alpaca fiber wigs?

    16. Look, parts are always the hardest to figure out, but you'll get there! It still look very cute on her :)
Alpaca wigs are so lovely to brush :D

    18. That carved-looking design is so cool! She's going to look gorgeous all painted up!

    19. well i paid up on the head from the discontinuation, so now I wait. It may take a while because i ordered green lol.
If there's a fantasy option i'm all over it.
and I love DC's green, it's such a pretty colour.

I ended up getting Ula instead of Alva and at some point she'll get a body. I didn't want her default body, it's too tall for me so it'll be a case of figuring out if she'll fit/work on a shorter body. that 5.5 neck may be a problem for me. Ho hum.

Not sure what my plan is for her yet. That's the problem with discontinuations though, it forces you to make a decision right now now now.

I'm itching to do faceups anyway but I have no sealant. The brand I use has been out of stock since christmas and I can't find any stockists of any of my tried and true brands who aren't charging a fortune for shipping. *sigh*

    20. I decided to make a new wig for Charon. I think it turned out better then my previous attempt, but still not great. But I like it so that's all that really matters.

      [IMG] imgur.com

    21. I’m a big fan of alpaca/ mohair, they look amazing!!!

    22. [IMG]
I changed the tone of hair and eyes on my Nicola and I’m amazed how color can transform an entire face!!!

      • x 5
    23. Nicola is stunning! Those colours look beautiful on her. What a gorgeous doll.

    24. That combination is stunningly beautiful on her! It truly brings her to life.:)

    25. @Zacarias - Oooh that purple is awesome!! :D Flocking is so tricky to get right, and that's speaking from years of experience. :sweat But keep going, you've got this!

@Naomicamlux - It's such a simple change but it really does just add so much to a doll. She's beautiful! :)

    26. One of the heads I seriously regret taking too long to get were the Irma head. I had plans for the character. Then it got discontinued :...( It were such an important character too, to one of my most important group of dolls. Irma belongs to their background story.

And now I'm over the moon happy that this head is available again for a limited time :XD: I'm ordering as soon as I'm able too, should be after the 19th next month.

But I have a question since I don't know much at all about DC dolls and DZ. But somewhere I heard DC is a parent company to DZ, correct me if I'm wrong. The question anyways is, are the gray skins similar?

I'm thinking of getting the 45 or 47cm DZ boy body for the head.

    27. I don't have any up to date information, so someone else may know better, but at least in the past they were sister companies and shared casting facilities. If they still do, I'd say there is a very good chance that their skintones are identical, at least if they are cast around the same time.

    28. Ok, thanks. I decided to go with the peach color instead, as I came up with a character that I like. I checked resin comaparison color chart on the peach skin from both companies, and at least they seemed pretty much the same in the images.

    29. Best of luck!

    30. Thanks :)

    31. Now I'm unsure if I should go for peach or gray skin Irma. If I choose gray skin I do have a DZ 47cm gray skin boy body at home that I can try my luck at.

But I'm wondering how the peach color look irl?

Both my TV and PC screen probably don't show an accurate color. It seem kind of moon colored with a tiny bit of warm peach, idk...

The character my Irma is going to be is based on someone who already have gray skin. A non human character. But I'm wondering if I can pull off the same kind of look I'm going for, with the peach skin as well. Would a character based on the alien race "the grays" also be possible with the peach skin?

      • x 1
    32. I'd say if you are committed to them being grey, go for a grey head. DC and DZ share casters being sister companies. At worst, the neck is gonna be a little thick since DC likes to make the necks super skinny on their dolls. But that is easily remedied (just sand the neckhole bigger on the head). Peach is like a pinkish white skin, so it definitely has a pink undertone to it (I have 2 peach skin dolls from DZ at home).

I could do a comparison of the grey to peach skin if that would help, as I have both at home. Both samples are older, but still a good representation of the color differences.

    33. I have a DZ and DC in peach resin. The resin is almost identical.

      imgur.com
[IMG] ( Large head cap is DZ)

    34. @IzabethS, @Zacarias This is going to be a hard choice because I got 2 possible character ideas that I both like, but only one Irma head that I plan to buy.

One idea is going almost full alien with the gray skin. By almost full alien I mean he got his natural skin color still. If I go with the peach skin, the character have made an attempts at mimicking humans more to blend in better. With the Peach skin he'd be a cute pastel alien. He'll be a lot more colorful in what he wears. I do kind of like the idea of a cute, cheeky alien in disguise.

The order period according to Alice's Collections, end on the 25th. I do have until the 19th myself to make up my mind. Until then I'll have to work on coming up with a faceup. I guess the faceup determines what I'll choose in the end. I won't be painting myself though. All I can do is make a bad attempt at drawing a faceup idea on my iPad.

But either way, whatever I choose he'll be a raving alinen, probably, maybe

And thanks for the image :) Hopefully I'll figure this out sooner rather than later.

Edit: After a second thought I think maybe I'll just go with this body. Doll Parts, Doll Chateau - BJD, BJD Doll, Ball Jointed Dolls - Alice's Collections

It is a really nice body and fit an alien kind of character well.

Doll Parts, Doll Chateau - BJD, BJD Doll, Ball Jointed Dolls - Alice's Collections

There's also this body that got smaller neck size than the one above. Anybody know if Irma would look good on this body?

I'd take of the extra joints to make it a bit shorter though.

    35. dc and dz use the same caster so yes, should match as much as any resin from different batches match. dz doesn't do green though for some reason, which always made me sad.

i'm all paid up for my green girl, at some point she'll get a body lol. dc wait times are loooong though. in excess of 6 months it seems. so i have quite a while to save up. I know gem has a very close match to their green as well, in case anyone wanted more options for that one specific colour lol.
i still havn't decided what sort of body I want, just that i don't want ot too tall. 50cm+ dolls don't fit my shelves lol. they can't stand up.

    36. If I had ordered before Irma got discontinued some years ago, I would have choosen green skin. But for the Irma now I have decided to go with gray skin as I came up with a faceup on my iPad that will look great with the gray skin. Too bad it will be that many months waiting time, but the most important thing is I get an Irma :whee:

The green skin look awesome, would be cool to maybe have a doll in that color too someday.

Another question, which head size look good on this 50cm body?

I know it says head size around 16.5cm should fit, and the Irma head are 17cm. But someone said that the Irma head are much smaller looking in real life, smaller than the DZ Carter head, and probably won't look good on the body in the link.

I love the idea of an Irma on that body though, as I don't want my alien to feel too much like a child in comparison to my IH SID Omar.

    37. I find the SHAPE of the head is the more pressing issue. Some heads that have nominally got the same circumference look different due to the "weight" of the features.

    38. A few days ago I received DollChateau k-body-23 in peach skin. It's beatufil and poses great.
I did a comparison with other DC bodies. Maybe it will be useful to someone. :)

On this occassion I also tried on various DC heads. The photos are on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/frigida_/

My dear Amos is looking so adorable!!! I wish DC reopens Amos again, I really wish I had another. How’s everyone’s dolly project going?

      • x 6
    40. your Amos is hands down one of my favorites :love such a sweet face.
starting to put my creative space back together, hope I can do some dolly work soon

    41. I wish they'd bring back Hugh. I'm still so upset they discontinued him without telling us.

    42. Awwww:whee: how cute is he?! I love the artwork on his horns…beautifully done!:love

      • x 1
    43. He's so cute!! :D Have you tried looking for one on the marketplace? There's probably one in need of a new home.
Slowly...I'm hosting a BJD booth at a local convention and I have so many props still to make! *_* But, that said, I did some experimenting with dye last month and I think I'm ready to finally try dip-dyeing my Elizabeth!

    44. I’ve looked everywhere though, it’s so hard. I count on the day DC reopens him again!!

    45. I FEEL YOU!!! They discontinue so many so quickly!! They are now having a Haloween flash sale, but only some discontinued one are available again, check alice’s collection for the program. I couldn’t even find that program on their main socials!

    46. My Lafal head arrived today :D I don't have a wig or body for him currently so it's a bit hard to judge what he'll look like as a full doll, but I'm very happy with him so far. I got him in Moon White and I think that works very well.

These were the only eyes with the correct size I had. They definitely feel a bit too "real human" for him :sweat I'm thinking of getting some rainbow eyes, although the blue ones in the official pictures are also very pretty.

      • x 9

    47. I think the eyes are fantastic!! I prefer realistic eyes, this makes him look so good! Congrats!!

      • x 1
    48. Ooh he's so beautiful!! :D I personally quite like these eyes, but I'm also just a huge sucker for green.

    49. As my last dolly purchase of the year, I got that in stock Ula that DDE had on sale :) I love fairies! And her having sculpted shoes is nice since now I don’t need to find any lol

I’ve been trying to find owner pictures of her but there’s hardly any! Instagram as only 4 posts :sweat No doll profiles here. There are a few of her sister Eunice, but she’s rare too. I saw that their order period was in 2021. I wasn’t really checking up on DC that year. Did these two not have a lot of buzz?

      • x 1
    50. I'm not sure why Ula and Eunice didn't get much attention. I got Ula (just her head) in the discontinuation sale and she's beautiful. At some point next year i'll get her a body hopefully.
I wonder why they slipped under the radar there, I mean, they're elf eared dolls so you'd think they'd have gotten attention.

      • x 2
    51. Personally I think most player shy away from them because their bodies are very hard to play and style. I myself couldn’t handle the K body 11-12 let alone the ones with more wings…

    52. That's a good point. They're more display pieces than anything else. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course, but I personally like to be able to play with my dolls. :thumbup

    53. [IMG]DC Ula 14
Wow you guys, my aforementioned Ula is here, and she is lovely! The box was huge! I thought I was sent an SD by mistake lol I’m going to post an unboxing for her cuz I took a lot of pictures.

      • x 9
    54. Congrats on receiving her, she's gorgeous!!

    55. Oh she's so pretty! Congratulations on her arrival! :D

      • x 1
    56. Lol, yes the boxes these two come in are gigantic! I think the bodies aren't too bad, they behave fine sueded.
But the wings! Detaching the wings on my eunice was okay, but getting them back on was a whole project by itself.
Scratched some of my paintjob off but it's luckily not very visible.

    57. Thank you! :)

      Thank you! :whee:

I had seen your post about the wings! I was hoping to just leave them on for painting. I’ll most likely paint them with acrylic so I can seal them with brush on varnish vs spray. I’m afraid of taking them off lol

    58. What do you guys think of the two new dolls Elsa and Eirwen? I love that skull head and the sculpted eyelashes are interesting.

    59. It was love at first sight for me.<3 Doll Chateau can always be counted on for unique sculpts, and I was immediately smitten by Elsa because of her single leaf-wing (and I’m seeing the other wing as twigs.) It’s such a unique concept with that and the half-scull face. And I agree that the sculpted eyelashes are very interesting as well. To me, she reads as a half-dead plant…or a dried flower perhaps? There’s just so much character there! I have a definite weakness for “planthros”, so I’ve already put her on layaway. I got her blank, but choosing a skin color was very difficult…so many possibilities with this sculpt! In the end I chose moon gray because it’s just so gorgeous I couldn’t resist.:)
