He's here! Taffy made it home safely! Bonus black blob shape chilling in the background is my dog-son Toki.
Right? His hands are so nice. The tail is super cool but I prefer a brushable tail like a my little pony so I'm gonna make him a tail out of the same hair I got for his wig.
I was cleaning out all my BJD stuff from storage trying to find one doll. To my surprise I had completely forgotten about getting a conjoined body right before it was discontinued and never got around to using it. Sadly it doesn't seem that age goes well with DC doll resin. they were once white and never seen the sun. But to my delight they actually might be able to have a use since they have that special hip cut off point due to the body type which was exactly what i been pondering over for the last couple days for a different doll idea. It stands rather well even though the feet put up a fight. Nice balance
@Pooki - Mmm DZ/DC white resin yellows if you just think about it. Fickle stuff, but I have no doubt you'll make it work.
Yeah XD I have a couple Dollzone boys too. Not as bad yellowing but still yellow. Nothing like what the conjoined body has gotten. I'm actually pretty excited for the plan I have for the body. Just gotta figure out if I'm doing one solid body or a conjoined body of sorts and start getting the things to work on it. Hopefully I'll be in here more often when progress is made \o/
Hello! I was wondering if anyone had pictures of Alan with the default human faceup? (Or pictures of Alan in general tbh, I just love him.) I'm thinking of ordering the human head with the elf body.
Does anyone have suggestions as to where I can find shoes for my Bella? It seem all the kinds recommended in the "what fits" thread are no longer made. I am hoping to find some black flats or ballet style shoes.
Wow, I forgot how much I wanted one of these bodies until just now ;-; Still on the ultimate grail list, they're just so graceful and unique Can't wait to see what you do with them
I haven't had much luck finding shoes that are flat that look proportional to the DC body except for the DC made pointy-toed flat. These are a bit tight on the K01 foot, but I was able to get them on without much problem. The toe box of the shoe is definitely narrow -- like human shoes lol. I will get a K07 body in the near future (the shoes were made for that foot), so I can compare sizes later. If you are looking for heels, Tonner 22" American Model shoes fit the K01 really well, but there isn't a flat option. Even though the feet aren't heeled, I was still able to get my K01 body to stand in them without much fuss! he-meife on eBay sells these shoes.
Thank you so much! I did not realize DC themselves still sold shoes. I thought I heard that they were discontinued. And knowing the Tonner shoes work helps out as well!
You're welcome! The DC shoes take F O R E V E R, though. -___- Almost as long as a doll (although not a doll by them lol), which is semi comical. It took them about 3 months to make, uggggggh.
Lol! Thanks for the warning. It is however kind of fun when you forget about things and then suddenly they show up! And I noticed that the pointy shoes do not say they will fit the k-01, so I would never have thought to try them. Thank you again!
Glad to see another lover of the body! I'm still debating on how to go about the modification i'm planning. I really want more dolls like their bodies with the hip area that could be jointed but all are solid. the only ones with such a hip is the conjoined body which they discontinued. I'm thinking getting newer bodies and going from there to preserve the conjoined body so again its very much up in the air about what i am going to do with the body. they prob could match yellow skin now with how yellowy it is.
Does anyone have an opinion on which they like better for posing - the K-11 or K-07 body? It looks like it's the same but without the extra neck piece, and I'm curious if having that piece just makes it a little more fun and versatile, or if it's really just aesthetics. Thanks so much! I've loved DC for their unique sculpts and kind of want an Elizabeth head, so was just looking at which bodies appeal to me most. And the green skin....omg.....*drool*
Elizabeth was discontinued, but hopefully you can find a head on the secondary market! I don't have those bodies, but I do have the K-05, which is the K-01 with the extra neck joint. It's aesthetic. The doll should still be strung tight due to how much space is there.
Thanks for your reply!! I kind of like it without the extra neck joint. Oh, I thought it looked like the head alone was still available but their site does kind of confuse me! I preordered a Rapp1993 Anie/Mae so it wouldn't be something I'm jumpin' on anyway for now haha!
Finally dragged my lightbox out (only had it a year) and tried it using a few of my dolls. Such a nice soft light. Doll Chateau Isabel by Ali MacTavish-Riach, on Flickr
@animemom, @Quiet and Insane thank you both. I didn't realise how delicate her features were until I did her first faceup. It was ok but made her look rather...tarty. This, her second faceup suited her far better and enhanced her gentle face. @Quiet and Insane I highly recommend it even if this is the first time I've used it. The lighting is much more even and less harsh plus the colours are truer so less PP as well.
@Blodeuwedd - Definitely adding that to the list of important things to buy when I move into my new house next year!
I've been thinking about getting a new doll lately, and Bella really stands out to me. I've noticed that there's two to choose from, Bella and Bella 2. Is there a slight difference in the sculpt, or is it just the same doll with a different faceup/clothes/ etc?
Oh my godness, she is gorgeous! Great photo. Agreed, I think I too need to invest in a lightbox one day
@Linnea DC/DZ generally use numbers to refer to different versions (alternate outfit, faceup, etc.) of the same doll.
Check the body. Bella has the old version body with no extensions. Bella 2 has the body with the extensions.
Hello! I received my Sharon almost a year ago and never shared her here. Her name is Amalthea. She's not completely finished but I'm happy with her progress. I need to order her a proper wig and she needs suitable clothing! I really adore her sweet face. Amalthea, Doll Chateau Sharon
Hi! I'm planning on putting a Nicola-A Swan version fullset on layaway early in 2020, so I thought I'd join the thread to learn about DC BJDs. I know absolutely nothing about them, other than I regret not getting an Elizabeth when they were available. Oh well, maybe I'll look for one in the secondhand market after I get Nicola. I'm really thinking of keeping that as her name when I get her, since I do like the name. Anyways, I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Ryu
Thank you! I take it that there aren't any Nicola owner pics out yet? I'd love to see what she looks like from the back, the wings look like they're on her shoulders, but I'm not exactly sure. Ryu
Hello @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - I am also very intrigued by Nicola; I have the Dream Valley Rosa on layaway who also has lovely wings....but Nicola is definitely on my wishlist! I have my first DC body on payment plan secondhand... not sure what head yet; I want some kind of feline head AJ
my Nicola head was sent to me month ago, but since 12/13 after departure no information since than. I'm planning to put her on Rosa's DV winged body, since her original body doesn't fit to the character, her hips are too big for me.
@xatshe, I'd love to see her when she comes home. I'd love to see other Nicola heads, both faceupped and blank. I sent in my first layaway payment for Nicola today! Now I'm waiting for the confirmation email that says she's "officially" on layaway. Ryu
i'll definitely post it here, it just need to come here first, it's been too long since the last update and i'm worrying if she even get to me now
I can't handle it. I'm getting Noah. I'm getting a blank Noah without his head and getting a Sharon head in its place. I need a centaur fawn. One of those things I've been going back and forth on, you know? Though on that note, does anyone know what size wigs Doll Chateau's heads require?
They usually wear a 6-7. 7-8, IMO, is really too big for them, and the scale usually looks suuuper weird, especially with styles that have fringe/bangs. If you are looking for a hardcap for the doll, there is variation in the head mold, too. My DC Lydia has a slightly smaller and "shorter" head dome compared to Queena.
This sculpt looks so interesting! I'm rather new in the hobby, so I have no idea how or what or who so I'm really really sorry if I say things that may sound stupid or embarrassing, but what is this sculpt called? I don't believe I've ever seen it before even among DC's stranger bodies and I'm super interested to see what people have made out of it!
Don't be embarrassed its called Conjoined body really lol. it was discontinued like a few years ago and its honestly one of the more rarer bodies from DC that you nearly never see. the full doll that used the body was called Debbie and Caroline. Hopefully that bit of information helps you discover more users with the doll!
Thanks a ton for the info, this should definitely help me find more on it! I figured it'd be a rare sculpt to come across nowadays; 'strange' looking bodies aren't to everyones' taste and especially now that this body is discontinued, it'll be even harder to come across people that have done things with it.
I went to a meetup this past weekend, and my friends told me that "DC dolls don't have any ridges or anything to stop joints from moving, so they have to be wired in order to stand." I've wired dolls before, but only arms and jointed fingers, which are way more difficult to do. OMFG, wiring jointed fingers is such a pain! I'm guessing that hot glue sueding alone doesn't work. Am I correct? I'm not worried about it, but I'd love a heads-up as to what to expect when my Nicola-A comes home. Thanks! Ryu
No they dont HAVE to be wired but it might help with some poses. The only DC doll ive ever had to wire was my event carol, and thats just because shes small and her string channels are too narrow for thicker elastic. With sueding and proper elastic tension they should pose and stand fine. (Sidenote, i prefer the smoother joints, ive had dolls that the locking ridges actually interfere with alot of poses)
@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - My Elizabeth is able to hold poses quite well without wiring or sueding, so perhaps wait until your doll arrives before worrying? Silicone kips are incredibly helpful too!
Oh, I'm not worried, I was just wondering about it since that's what my friends said. *shrug* I have to admit, I'm much more used to Luts/CP dolls than any other companies, since that's what I mostly have. This dolls is going to definitely be different for me, my first DC doll, my first doll with wings, my first non-human skin-tone doll, my first 50cm doll.... I'm eager to see what owner pics of this sculpt looks like! Is Nicola a new sculpt? Ryu
Okay, I think this year might be the year ... I've wanted Alan (human ver.) since the moment I set foot in this hobby, and the timing just feels right. I think I'm going to put him on layaway before the New Years event ends. He's a doll that I fell in love with based on his promo pics, so I'll probably be ordering him fullset ... but now that they're offering gray resin, I'm conflicted! Do I want to order him in gray for a more unique look, or stick to the white for that nice monochrome look with his outfit ... ? Hmmm ...
I got a nice pair from summomo82 on etsy for my K-01 body. I’m picky on shoes and these have gotten several irl compliments. Fits the small doll leaves foot perfect too.
My secondhand impulse purchase Bella came! Lol. I didn't realise her mouth was sculpted so DEEP! Like WOW. Made removing her lipstick pretty tricky. Posing wise i'm pretty impressed, she's not nearly as awkward and kicky as my yosd DCs. She's my first MSD by them and she seems pretty sturdy on her feet so that's nice. I mean my Carol cannot stand without a LOT of coaxing, even with wiring. But I have to wait for the wind to dye down to spray her with sealant and start prepping for her new faceup. I'm thinking something extravagant, maybe a bit OTT lol. Because why not? She's from 2015 and her white has turned a rather lovely cream colour. I admit I was a little nervous about what colour she actually WAS and how yellowed but the cream is quite nice actually and with the right blushing I think she'll look lovely. So that's a relief. In terms of shoes, I THINK slim mini shoes should fit, so like.. minifee stuff? I'll have to compare her feet. They look narrower than my Resinsoul crew's but about the same length.
Well, it took me an entire month from beginning to end, but I finally completed my Doll Chateau Elizabeth spider girl. She’s in green skin. Meet Elvira, my garden spider.
They only had one size when I ordered before! But I believe I remember the listing saying they’d fit Minifee feet. And since those are bigger than moe probably those..?
@PoeticSoul - Wow, she's beautiful!! May I see a photo of her face up a little closer? Did you paint the details on her chest and hands as well?
Thank you, and here’s a closer view as requested. To answer your question, yes I did all her artwork.
Wow. Simply beautiful artwork! I'm wishing even more that I could afford to look for a pretty spider like her right now! Ryu
@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 thank you for your kind words! Being able to have fun with artwork on a spider sculpt was my main reason for wanting an Elizabeth. I was convinced that big bulbous booty would be a great place for some extra expression.
