Doll Chateau Kid Dolls Discussion: Part 8

Nov 13, 2015

    1. This is kind of sad news, since all of the discontinued sculpts are (imo of course) all of the most unique ones in their catalog. I'm glad I somehow managed to find a secondhand Irma, Delia, Charles and Lydia head this year so I won't have to rush and buy them all up now lmao

I might pick up Alma, she's the only one on my to-buy list that I still haven't found... just the head though.

    2. I'm sad to see so many of their sculpts going away! It's almost half of what they have. Any idea as to the reason for such a huge overhaul?

I'm so happy I got my Barbara and Stacy when I did.

    3. Ugh, this is such a big discontinuation! Now I have to decide if I'd die without an Alberta.

    4. I wasn't intending on getting an Irma anytime soon, but I guess they forced my hand!

Ive never seen one secondhand, so I feel its now or never. :<

    5. I guess I have until March to decide how badly, I want the spider body.

    6. Isabel was the doll that I fell in love with and in turn was the gateway that showed me how unique and creative DC are.

I've been wanting a fullset of her for a few years now and now I have about 2 months to seriously think about getting her.

    7. I am going to mourn the passing of Elizabeth, the Spider girl. I came across her blank, and in old yellow skin, in a shop and she totally transformed how I viewed her. She totally blew the rest of the shop's BJDs out of the water. I have an Amos and he has a gentle and likeable aura that is totally unlike any other BJDs I own.

It is a pity I haven't the space, the stamina (Sewing!) and the necessary extra money to add her to my collection because she has a sweet, fragile and gentle beauty that is rarely seen among BJDs.

    8. Does anyone know which bodies will be discontinued? I’m guessing the Elizabeth body because it’s only available with her head, but will all the bodies that can be bought separately still be available?

I also don’t need a bunch of floating heads but I don’t want to miss my chance to get Elizabeth and Agatha, and possibly Alma, Lance, and/or Charles. I wonder why they decided to discontinue so many sculpts, especially some of the more popular ones.

    9. Yeah, all of the bodies will still be available (except for Elizabeth).

    10. I tried searching doll profiles but only came up with 4 results and none of them mentioned sizing, so I will ask here.

Does anyone know what eye and wig sizes work best on DC Bella?

If at all possible I would love to see different eye sizes the head.

I have been pining for a Bella since like... 2012 when my partner got a Collin, but I never had a strong enough plan in mind to justify Bella over my character dolls I was getting. Now I have a set plan for Bella on a Dream Valley body and I am super excited :D

    11. In general I've found that 6-7 wigs and 12-14mm eyes work best for most DC kid heads, including my Bella. Of course, I use handmade super small-iris eyes so normal eyes might be a totally different size range lol

    12. I used 14mm small iris low dome in my Colin because his eye line is so wide and curved.

    13. @0bsequi0us
Thanks! I was thinking those ranges might work. Gives me options for getting her a wig in before she arrives. I am hoping that 12mms look alright gap wise, as I like a smaller iris ratio to eye as well. But I might wait on those until I can test what I have in person.

      @SteamWitch
Yeah, Collin's head was so hard to find eyes for. My partner loved the face but because of the inability to find proper eyes for him had to sell him in the end. Now he has a Hugh on order and is hopeful for better results.

    14. Ayyy, veterans, I need your help.

I've been eying the K-07 females for a while, and with DC discontinuing so many awesome sculpts, bit the bullet and snagged an amazing deal on a secondhand one. However, in stringing her I decided that she needed tightening, and now she can't stand at all. I have loosened the elastic as much as I can, removed the sueding I put in, and added wiring. Nothing helps. I got her to stand out of the box before I changed things; now it's a twenty minute battle for two seconds of stand. I am afraid her elastic might need to be longer, but maybe that's not the problem? How does one fix the standing on these ladies?

Never owned a DC doll that could stand for crud, but to make it worse is... bad.

    15. This might sound stupid/not help at all if you didn't fully take her apart, but I had a super similar experience while restringing one of my boys. (k-08, with similar hip joints) For me the problem was that I somehow accidentally swapped the hip joint pieces when restringing... they still fit in the thigh pieces, but they made the doll totally unstable, barely able to stand. And as soon as I swapped them back again he was back to the unsteady-but-standing DC norm.

    16. I took the plunge and ordered Isabel, she was the first DC doll I fell in love with and now that she's being discontinued, I figured it was now or never.

She'll be in peach skin, as I really like that color.

    17. Well hello ladies and gentlemen, I've just bought myself a DC Elizabeth. I've wanted her ever since I got into the hobby...five or so years ago. Heck I think I remember her being released. Anyway, she was supposed to be my doll plan for next year but this sudden discontinuation has uh...forced my hand a little. So yay, I'm finally on the DC train! Now to strap in for a loooong wait.

      • x 1
    18. Oh Yay! Welcome to the DC tribe!

    19. It's been a very long time coming. :sweat She's going to be a lot of fun though - I plan on partially dying her and giving her some extra eyes and possibly even elf ears. She'll hopefully turn out to be quite creepy!

    20. Oh that sounds like a cool project! So the wait begins. :spider:

    21. Yes! Looks like the average wait is about four months according to the waiting room? Assuming people have been adding their details correctly. I thought it was around eight months last time I checked?

    22. Wait times for DC is an average of 6 months but your mileage may vary.

    23. Well I ordered, a single blank, white resin doll...so hopefully...though I know going via a dealer always takes a little longer.

    24. I was planning on being so good for the rest of this year and not adding anymore dolls...but I wound up with a vacancy in my conservatory of flowers and thought a lovely green garden spider would fill that spot perfectly! And with the upcoming discontinuations, what’s a gal to do? I ordered a green Elizabeth through FF&D...oh my aching budget!:doh

    25. Ronoxun (Colin) was very photographic yesterday. He wanted to wear blue, he is a fire demon and blue is the color of the hottest flame. He was burning bright.

    26. If there are any Lance and Matthew owners on this thread, would you mind posting a comparison picture of their profiles? Individual pictures would be fine too. Face up and no face up are both good, but without a wig if that's not too much trouble.

    27. @SteamWitch, oh wow! That wig is absolutely phenomenal on him! These photos are positively stunning and show him off so well.:)

    28. @PoeticSoul Thank you! I was glad to get camera time with him.

    29. What a cutie!!!!

    30. Woooow her shoulder is just beautiful!!! It just goes beyond!

    31. i took the plunge and put in for a very (very) long layaway to finally get my spider triplets (alma, agatha, and douglas) before they got discontinued (except douglas' head, but i got it while i was at it), so i was wondering if anyone here knows what fits elizabeth's torso? i get the impression yosd tops would fit best. i obviously have a looong time to pick out what i'd want them to wear, but i'd like to know the relative scale i'm looking for. one of them is gonna be modded to have a male torso, too, so.... :o
i did some cursory searches but it seems like most people keep theirs nude or get custom orders, which i wouldn't be opposed to since i do like to do designing. :0

    32. I have no idea. I'm waiting for an Elizabeth to see what would fit her. She'll probably wear custom stuff or nothing though...what with being a spider and all.

    33. I have an Elizabeth spider on a long layaway too, and while I still have a lot of time to think about it, right now I’m thinking of dressing her in a custom lacey mori style to suit her character as a delicate garden spider. Fortunately I’m able to design and sew for myself, so I plan on mine having quite the wardrobe.:)

@mangameow, spider triplets sound utterly amazing...especially with those heads! Those 3 heads are some of my favorite Doll Chateau sculpts of all time. Wow...what a fascinating project! What color resin are you getting them in?

    34. nice! Elizabeth is quite a cutie~ ^p^
i love the lacey mori style, too omg.... i'm not sure what kind of clothes i'll style my spiders with yet though!
but YES i was so sad to see agatha and alma were being discontinued. :( i really miss the older DC style of sculpting, and i think i'll be leaning into dream valley more in the future. :o
i'm getting them all in white, because i really like how pretty it is and they'd probably not look quite right with the designs i have in mind in any of the other colours. :p
i'm basing them on pastels of the primary colours, so pink, yellow, and blue. :>
i've got a sketch of my agatha done, but i still have no idea what kind of outfit she might wear. :0a

    35. Ooh what a pretty concept! There're all going to look super cute! :D

    36. @mangameow, that concept is positively epic! I love those patterns on her and the addition of the polkadots is pure awesomeness...it really gives her a playful quality. The pastel color palate is such a wonderful and fun idea.:)

    37. g-gosh, thank you!! ^////^ i'm really excited to get them so i can start the customizing process. :P

aaaa thank you~!! ^//w//^<3 i don't think the pattern is quite set in stone, it's just kind of vague concept.... i'd really like it to be something very close to the original doll chateau style, where it's kind of goth and elegant and delicate.... but i'm kind of ham fisted and not good at making tiny little delicate details, so i'll have to find an artist who's good at those and can interpret my style into something closer to my vision. xD

    38. Hello. I'm new to this thread. I just started a layaway for an Isabel spider and nikita on Isabel body. I wanted a Dollchateau spider since they were first released, I couldn't let this discontinuation keep me from getting her.

    39. I just got a few on layaway as well after procrastinating forever. I loveee seeing what people plan with elizabeth, I may have to sketch a bit tonight to see if anything comes to mind. My only real plans are for my alberta and lydia, but even then its possibly changing.

Do you guys think stacys head would be too big on the spider body? I have hers on my order as well but can always wait if it would look too odd? Maybe I will do a version of ms spider from james and the giant peach...so a big head wont look awful. If not that Irma is the other I ordered and have seen people use her on Elizabeths body.

    40. Ooooo the Stacy head on the spider body is such a cool idea! I have no idea if that would actually physically work but I hope it does because I would love to see how that would turn out!!!

    41. The spider body being discontinued lowers my hope that we'll ever get a larger version, or better yet, a male version. I put off buying one because I thought the Elizabeth head looked to big for the body at least for my personal preferences, and after thinking on it all this time, I'm still going to forgo ordering one. But it'll be nice to see everyone else's when they start to arrive. :)

Who knows maybe they'll do limited version spiders in the future.

    42. Well they did make Xaviera as a limited spider-sheep. She was pretty cute. Who knows with DC?

    43. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but what is the difference between Bella 2 and the original? Is it just if you buy the full set you get a different makeup and outfit?

    44. That is the only difference, just the makeup and fullset outfit, the sculpt is the same.

      • x 1
    45. Thank you SteamWitch. I love the outfit but would want a different faceup for her. Mmm decisions.

    46. Can I get a Queena spam? I just purchased one and I am super stoked!

    47. @frigida Is she tan skin? I'm hoping tan skin will come back soon. She's lovely!

    48. @Rinoa No, she is old yellow skin, from 2016. It looks like tan. :)

    49. Oh wow! It really does, I like the colour. :) I remember their old tan was very very orange and I was considering getting the yellow skin because it looked more tan.

    50. I have an Elizabeth! She's on her human body right now, but the K-11 torso is the same. Its TINY! I've dressed my girl in some vintage barbie clothes, and they fit perfectly. Yo-SD would probably work just fine too.

barbie clothes tho, damn that's little..!! i'll be on the lookout for like maybe blythe stuff?
oh man, it'll be even tinier when i mod the boy omg..!!

    52. Aww thank you! I love this outfit, I found a treasure box of my mom's childhood doll clothes including some vintage 60s barbie clothes and that was it for me! The lace skirt is just an old barbie dress that I fastened at her waist. She's crazy tiny! If you want any more pics for clarification or measurements or anything too, let me know, I can do that!

    53. I took a few photos of Ronoxun, Chael's demon persona. He plays with fire.

    54. That’s such a wonderful photo, @SteamWitch! Ronoxun looks amazing.:)

    55. Thank you! He's a fun little demon. :x:love

    56. I had a little question for any DC kid girl body owners...! Is it particularly hard to get the DC kid girl/bella body to do this knee to chest pose? [link: bella2 ]

I know it requires popping her hip out of the torso, which is fine with me. I also know it'd probably be very difficult to do this pose with both knees up unless the body was leaning against something.... which is also fine with me! I just wanted to know if anyone had decent luck with getting these poses to stay in general, or if it's a horrible mess to get it to stay, and that flickr user just got super lucky. :sweat

    57. My lovely little Elizabeth arrived on Friday and she's just so sweet!
I'd add a photo but Flickr is being tedious and not letting me.
