Doll Chateau Kid Dolls Discussion: Part 8

Nov 13, 2015

    1. finally got her oufit 'finished' but it's just cobbled together from scraps so not really finished - It makes a good prototype though as I think Steampunk style suits her eccentric body kind of? Oh but getting those legs to stand together when long skirts are hiding the joints :horror: I almost went insane LOL - much patience required at midnight! She needs gaiters, and a huge bow on the back of her dress join, and some better 'steampunk' accessories than what I could find in a drawer full of regular stuff - but after 6 months of neglect, finally she's dressed!

    2. So I've just bought my second DC Douglas second hand (this one is on the 06 body, my other one is on the 11). The thing is, I've decided that I really prefer the k-body-12 to the default Douglas body. It's similar but more detailed and has jointed hands, and is aesthetically closer to the 11, and I do want him to be a male counterpart to my female-styled Douglas. The thing is I can't find any 12 bodies second hand so I feel like I'll have to order from DC.

Can anyone advise what their current wait times are like? It's not totally urgent since he'll have a body while I wait, of course, but I'd still like to know since when I contacted DC myself early this year about buying the 12 body (which I wound up finding second hand) I was told by them wait time was 3 months but other people were saying that it was at least 7.

    3. @Vexxed When I placed my order in June, I was quoted at 4 months, with DC, it's always safe to assume roughly around 6-months on average

    4. That's what I was afraid of. It's a shame, there's a lot of their newer dolls on that body that I could buy and sell the head but the only place to have a DC boy body in stock is Angelesque and it's literally the exact doll I bought - the Douglas on his default body in NS pink. The 12 is very similar, but more detailed and comes with the jointed hands and has 5cm feet (like the 11) as opposed to the 5.3 the Douglas body has, that make it almost impossible to find shoes since they're all 5cm, 6.5cm or 6.7.

If anyone's seen any of the DC boys on the 12 body (like Hyman, Jason and Lance) for sale or in stock somewhere please let me know!

Also, how difficult is it to put the jointed hands on one of the kid bodies without them? I assume it's doable, which is why they offer those hands for sale in the first place.

    5. @elve It's so nice to see a completed Grace! The centaur bodies can be so difficult to dress. I've been slowly building my girl into a courier character with saddlebags and a uniform. So much measuring. >_<

    6. thanks :D and yes they are a challenge to dress! I do love a challenge though - she's the only one of my otherwise regular bjd I've made an outfit for this time around - And the last time I had DC midis they were the ones I enjoyed sewing for most too - it's like a complicated puzzle :whee: Victorian/steampunk is a very forgiving style though - I basically used rectangular cloth tubes with drawstring waistbands (way more versatile than elastic) and apron shapes. Her sleeves and collar are tubes separate to her blouse (which has a drawstring at the armpits). So no fitting and measuring really - although I would love to try making her a fleece bunny onesie sometime - I think that would be a lot more challenging :ablink: She saves me a fortune on shoes though LOL

    7. Does anyone have any shoe suggestions for 5.3cm foot shoes?

I got a second Douglas on the 02 body and so far I haven't found any shoes that are 5.5cm or even 6.0cm that could work for him. I am already trying to replace it with a 12 body but as of now this is the one I have to work with and it would be great to find some shoes for him.

    8. @Vexxed , I have an Amos on a k-body-10, and, if his shoe size is the same as the K-body-02, your boy could use Fairyland Minifee Girl old A-line body size shoes. My Amos has slimmer feet than my MNF but they share the same shoes.

    9. Hello! I've admired DC dolls for quite some time and just received a girl of my own. I look forward to chatting with you all. :)
Here is a photo, she still needs a name.

    10. @Miku_Plantman, welcome aboard! Your girl is absolutely awesome...is she in gray skin? Love, love, love her outfit!:)

    11. @Miku_Plantman, hey there, gorgeous in green. She'll tell you her name in time. Welcome!
Ronoxun is still in possession of Chael's body. I need to put his eyes in and get them swapped out. I really want to see how the new faceup looks with his flooffyy yellow wig.

    12. I'm having a really hard time to get my K-08 body to stand straight. The knees seem to bend on their own and ankle parts are also pretty wobbly. Anyone else has this issue? I've seen so many photos of the body standing on it's own.
It's strung just right, neither too tigh nor too loose and hot glue made things worse. Any ideas please?

    13. If all else fails try wiring the legs. I had to wire my 02 body and run the wire up into his body because he kept falling over at the hips.

    14. Seconding SteamWitch, I have an 08 and ended up wiring his crazy legs. It needs to be redone, but it's helped a lot for about a year now. Definitely worth the price of the wire.

    15. Here is my boy Chael. I finally put his human head back on. He is a sassy, very young looking 300+ year old half-demon. His half brothers spoil him because they don't know how old he is.

    16. @PoeticSoul She is in the green resin. It is a really lovely colour, like a soft mint. :)

@SteamWitch Thank you! I think we have settled on Ivy for her name now. :) And wow, Chael's clothes are amazing!

    17. I'm very lucky that my 02 body stands easily on his own. My 11 is more of an issue but since I bought her some very tight fitting boots I can get her to stand with a bit of work. I wasn't happy with the 02 body (I bought it second hand as a full Douglas doll and was told he was on the 08 body and he wasn't, sadly) so I bought an in stock Jason doll from DDE so I could get the 12 body, which I absolutely love.

I'm a bit confused about it because on the DC site it says Jason is on a 12 body but is 50 rather than 50.5 and has 5.4cm feet rather than 5. Is that just an error? Because also on the DC site the 12 body is described as 50.5 with a head and having 5cm feet. I'm hoping for 5cm feet because it's much easier to find shoes to fit than 5.4cm.

Do slim minifee clothes fit the taller male kid bodies? I know my 11's hips and butt are too curvy for slim minifee clothes (she only wears pants and it's SO hard to find ones that fit her, but I'm wondering if stretchy slim minifee leggings might be okay) but I managed to get a pair of YOSD jeans to fit my 02 body as knee-length shorts and there's just so much choice out there for slim minifee clothes.

Any hints for places where you can buy pants to fit the 11 body and if slim minifee clothes are viable for either the 11 or 12 bodies?

    18. I don't know about 11 and 12, but I can get my 08 into slim minifee clothes just fine. The pants fit like capris and the shirts fit like crop tops, but they look okay.

    19. She's precious and I love that wig on her! I'm waiting for a Medusa too, but I've got mine in NP and on the K-01 body as her default one, as nice as it is, sends me nuts for how much kicky it is ><''.

I would suggest everybody to hot glue suede their k-07/11 and so on bodies to avoid, or at least minimize such problem.

    20. question anyone that has gotten the medusa with the company faceup, in the photos its showing tears I don't know if that is just photoshoped or not does she have tears on her face???...I really love the faceup but don't really care for the tears. Thanks in advance. :)

    21. I made a shirt for my tiny Granado Lucifer from a Ken doll pattern. It was too big but I thought to try it out on Chael (Colin) and it fits. :o:dance

    27. My Vincent arrived and I love him SO MUCH! I'm actually a bit surprised how much I love him, I was really expecting to be disappointed
      [IMG]
He's just so much cuter than I expected, I can't wait to get him painted

    28. @NamelessPierrot - Aww, he looks adorable! I can't wait to see what you do with him! :D

    29. @Rakonto Thanks! He'll be ginger and Victorian inspired :D His name is going to be Oliver

    30. According to Mint on Card you can get Medusa with or without the tears. I have her in green resin, with tears (for an extra sad look), and she is one of my favorites. That's out of around 100 dolls. She is very kicky, so I'd recommend sueding.

    31. I recently got an Irma head and almost immediately afterward stumbled upon an amazing deal on a damaged boy body...

Unfortunately the head is white skin and the body is normal, but I think I matched them ok? I feel like there was someone a few pages back wondering if Irma would fit on a boy body, and she absolutely does!

Iโ€™m also waiting to get my hands on a wonderful modded Delia... Iโ€™m excited, this โ€œsetโ€ are some of my favorite DC sculpts ever but I thought Iโ€™d never actually get them :D

    32. @0bsequi0us - Oh wow, he looks like quite a character!

    33. @0bsequi0us that is the greatest Irma I've ever seen! Cotton candy metal, lol...

      • x 2
    34. Thanks all! The Irma sculpt just screams "metalhead" at me but I don't like Metal music... lol...

I wish she was more popular, I always love to see what different people do with her!

    35. I got a Xanthe the other day. She ended up being the fantasy version when i thought I was getting the human one. I would post a picture if I could finally figure out how to get them to work on this forum.

I had to order another human head so I could actually complete my plans .

    36. So I plan on ordering a Kid Boy Body (k-12 with no wings) this Thursday through Denver Doll Emporium, and while I'll actually be making him a custom Pumpkin head, I also kinda wanna do some stuff with his human head.
What size wigs generally fit on this type of doll?
      And what size of eyes?
DenverDoll is great, but these are two details they generally forget to include on their website.

    37. @ZOMBUNN13 Wigs and eyes are very 'head' dependent. Which head were you wanting?

    38. Looks like Lance, 10mm eyes and probably a 6" wig.

    39. Awesome, thank you! I appreciate your help.

    40. HI everyone.....I haven't been on in a really long time and with coming back I am looking at getting a DC. I have never had one before and I am thinking of ordering from DDE. Just curious if there are any other US retailers for DC and if anyone here has pics of Sharon, Medusa or Trista :-)

    41. Welcome back!

My group is also a USA dealer for DC. :) Links to our pages are in my signature, please feel free to message me if you have any questions or if I can help with anything. :chibi

    42. I have been eyeing DC for a long time, not quite knowing what to make of some of the sculpts. (I'm not much into fantasy dolls.) But then I saw a DC/Unoa hybrid and ideas started brewing... So I have ordered a Douglas, hoping to use his body with a Unoa B-El faceplate. We'll see. I'm a little unsure if the neck is going to work with the Buff headback. But if it doesn't, then I'll need to revise.

I do plan to remove the extra limbs, at least. I like sewing my own dollclothes. Does anyone have good suggestions for what size patterns I should be looking for (and probably adjusting)?

    43. Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop into one of my favorite threads of all time and say hi to all of you. So great to see so many people still around, old and new. I hope to be able to share my DC boy with you soon >< for now I'll be playing catch up in the thread and looking at all your beautiful pictures though.

hello fellow DC/Unoa hybrid-er? Happy to see I'm not the only one attempting this :) Sadly my girl is without a faceup right now so I can't share her (I'm only just getting back to being properly active in the hobby) but I hope to be able to give her a new faceup soon! I'll be looking forward to seeing what you make of them!

    44. Douglas arrived today and I immediately set out to try my idea. Unoa B-El work perfectly with this body, so I'm very happy. But I have one problem. I would like to remove the extra joints on the arms and legs, but when I took the wrist joint off I found that the elastic won't fit into the lower arm tunnel. Any suggestions? I tried pulling from the other side (upper arm), but it doesn't seem to want to budge. Plus, the hand's s-hook might also be in the way.

    45. Hello all! I love DC so I thought I would come by to say so. I have a DC Queena and she really is a 'Queen' in my collection.
Question for other owners of DC kids: what are some shoe sizes that fit well? I have a pair of shoes specifically designed for DC kids, but those are hard to find, I was wondering what other 'brands' have feet of similar size?

      EDIT:
@toveb here is a thread about removal of the extra joints. It looks like, in theory, you should not be having any issues:
      /threads/doll-chateau-removing-extra-joints.767124/

    46. Thanks! I actually worked it out on my own eventually, so I posted some photos in that thread of how I did it.
And here he is, wigless and without a face-up. He doesn't even have a name yet, but I love him!
I am so glad I finally found a body for my B-El.

    47. Excellent toveb! I am glad you were able to find a solution. He does look handsome! I would be interested in seeing him when you find him a wig and apply a face-up.

    48. The new DC centaurs give me a lot of hope for DC since their elbow joints actually look... stable??? I really hope they release a normal human kid body with these more sophisticated elbow and knee joints, that might win me back over to the DC side. Their scorpions also had them, so I'm optimistic!

    49. Doll Chateau and Doll Zone are "the same company" now, correct? I follow DC's twitter and they often mention upcoming dolls from DZ, and I have seen DZ do the same.
The reason I ask is because minimal parts of the new dolls remind me of DZ. When I first saw a picture of the fish girl, I could have sworn she was a DZ doll, not DC. Even the Fanen DZ dolls I thought I saw influence from DC. They also use the same resin color chart.
Not saying this is good or bad, just something I noticed and was curious if anyone else thought this or could confirm if they were working with each other.

    50. DC and DZ are and have always been sister companies.

    51. No kidding? I had only seen the correlation between the two in the last year or so. Learn something new everyday - thanks for saying so SteamWitch!

    52. Sad news about the discontinued sculpts, fortunately the ones I'm tempted by weren't on the list.
      I love Chael, my Colin!

    53. I went ahead and ordered Isabel today. I wasn't planning on another doll so soon, but this kind of forced my hand. So glad I got my Charles, Elizabeth and Alberta over the past year.

    54. Super annoyed by this. I don't what if anything I can get.
