He really is a gorgeous doll, and I love that he's so lanky that he is actually pretty light-weight for such a tall boy.

 

I have a question for you A-03/A-04 owners!

So I've had a Soom Heliot for years, but his body has always been a source of frustration for me because he's so large and heavy and his posability is fairly poor. Recently I've been considering getting a new body for him to see if that would make me love him more, since I really do love his face and character.

I've seen a few people hybrid Soom heads with the adult body (not that I wouldn't love to see more examples), but mainly I'm wondering how you like the posability of the body in general? Is it easier to handle than other big guys this size? I saw a few people saying it's a lot lighter which would already be a big improvement!

 

Not quite what you are asking but, I have a soom amber on the Y-03 girl body and I love it! The posing is graceful and the proportions are beautiful. But you will have to do something about the neck. Sooms neck is so much bigger than DC it will leave a terrible gap if you dont

 

The A-03/04 neck is larger thankfully (assuming DC's measurements are correct), but I assume there's still gapping. I'm not quite sure how people have dealt with it since I've only found a couple pictures and neither of them show the neck well, unfortunately.

 

I dont have a good picture either unfortunately. First i just made a donut like disk of hot glue and that worked for a while. Then i made a new one out of apoxie that fit better and had better mobility. Lately ive been thinking about sanding down the opening on the back of the head to make it perfect... But thats just me being picky. Honestly if you have the extended neck peice and a long-ish wig its fine and still pretty good mobility because of the middle neck joint

You are welcome, glad i could help i would definitely recommend that for a hybrid. Sooms bodies just felt clunky to me so i tried a few bodies fo my amber and DC looked best to me.

I've got a Soom Migma on a Y-03. She's maybe a teensy bit bobbleheaded compared to some of my more realistically proportioned dolls, but I think she looks pretty decent on it over all.

However, Migma has a narrow chin/jawline. I also tried a Soom Cass head on this same body and it looked completely ridiculous. Luckily, Heliot is also pretty narrow in the chin/jaw, so you've got a good chance of it working out.

Here's my Migma/Y-03. When I have the time to work on her, she's going to become The Plain Doll from Bloodbourne. I thought the elongated proportions of the DC bodies would be just perfect for her.


I don't have an A-03/04, but I do own an A-02 and a Soom Heliot head, if you want me to pop him on there for your real quick. The resin won't match, my Heliot's white and my A-02 is NS-P, but it would give you an idea of proportions at least.

 

@cowpewter that would be amazing if you wouldn't mind! I'm not too worried about resin match since my Heliot is also white and can be blushed to match, but I'd love to get a better sense of the proportions

 

Hey guys! I recently bought a second-hand DC Stacy off of someone, and she is strung very very tightly... It's just too tight for my preference. Would anyone have any advice for restringing her? I'm a bit scared to do it, because it will be my first time restringing a doll.

Best advice: just five in and do it. It's scary at first, but just push through, you'll be a pro after about the second time!

Hello all! Doll Chateau's newest discontinuation has thrown my plans into the trash and stomped on them Dennis AND Evangeline??? Anyway, does anyone have some Dennis owner photos to heal my wounds?

I am eyeing Lacey. Any owner photos? I DOUBT THERE IS ANY but I ask away. She's being discontinued SO soon. And her body si going away with her I believe.

 

Im so sad about snowborn. Ive admired him since he was released, but always put off buying himfor one reason or another. And i just made a big order somewhere else right before this announcement so no way i can get him now. I wish places wouldnt do this mass discontinuation bussiness.

 

it leaves only one 1/3 sized doll - Oswald? i was looking at Dennis and Hyman eventually, but i too have rather painted myself into a corner by now. i need a peach a-body-03 haha. sigh. I don't like the girls as often, but i did like Laney, had hoped i could get around to that, but i believe she was a limited edition anyway right? i wonder what new sculpts they have in mind.

You can order Snowborn through BjDivas, they have him available , together with the other soon to be discountinued molds. They have a layaway plan for up to 12 months. On a twelve month layaway a basic snowborn comes out to $58 a month, shipped.
This may still not work for you, but I thought you should be aware of the option ^__^

 

Does anyone know if there is a reason for the mass discontinuation?

For example, could it be that the SD dolls haven’t been selling as well and they might focus more on MSDs from this point forward?

I’m just massively speculating here.

I have one, but so far he is a floating head too (mine was casted in normal pink resin). And I'm also searching for an alternative body for him. I went through several variants and now, in principle, stopped at one and only, but after all the possible fittings and tests via graphical editors, I'm still afraid that something may go wrong... I don't want to announce my "the way out" in advance, because many people had been already said to me: "You could not hybrid - it's DollChateau !!11! - humble yourself - bla-bla-bla" ... But if you would like, I'll write you my suggestion in PM.
BTW, I have seen your light tan boy at instagram when mine was not arrived yet. I like a lot how he transfigured after the painting. Just because this mold is rare, even now I try to find another examples of him in order to admire this face once again.

 

oh i really hope they don't limit to 1/4... i love the 1/3 size.... i was thinking it seemed like they were doing a lot of short run sculpts, and i hope they don't go to that business model where every doll is a limited order & production run. we need time to gather resources haha

I agree! And discontinuing is also recasters paradise. Unless, I’m speculating, perhaps those sculpts just weren’t selling? They are retaining older sculpts like the very popular Queena

 

i have the sad. sniff. i always like the weird stuff. i'm glad i already got my Fergus, and my Medeas is in the works.

 

I know the speculation is that artists come and go. So when an artist they have employed quits, gets fired, leaves, whatever, they will take their sculpts with them. I believe that's an agreement with the company but they probably can't sell them. I can't say for sure.

 

I dont think there really is a reason. Its just something they do regularly... They did the same last march.

 

There's a cost to upkeeping and remaking the molds required to make the dolls. It seems like most companies discontinue things because they can only have so many things about at once and they want to be able to release new stuff. It's rarely any more deep than that

 

It's certainly possible that this is just a regular purge, but if that was the case it's kind of weird that Laney is being discontinued when she was just released three months ago. With DC/DZ's current wait times I don't think anyone's even gotten a chance to receive her, even if they ordered her on day one. I'm inclined to agree with @sugarcactus that the sculpter or sculpters for these dolls is leaving or has left, and DC is removing them.

 

these purges make me a little suspicious of how Doll Chateau treats it's employees (that, and the current wait times suggest that they're having trouble meeting demand, ie, not having enough staff to fill orders). All the artists I've met really like to be paid to make art, and steady gigs don't grow on trees, so if DC's sculptors keep leaving, I suspect there's a reason why

Wasn't Laney always a limited release? Iirc, her order period was already over before they announced the discontinuation, which actually extended it.

I just received my Erwin today! He's got some scuffs to his company faceup, but I love him way more in person than in the pictures! I live for those extra joints!



Though I feel a bit bad because I really want a sexta head...and I've only had this lovely boy for a few hours.

 

It is sad they are discontinuing so many sculpts. I suppose they are not getting enough orders to continue with them.

I have had my Kevin for nearly 2 years and have never got around to getting him his faceup and tattoos. Well that is going to happen this year! He is going to be based on the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis. I need to get his eyes made and style his wig but I love the look of him even blank. DC resin is so smooth.

Ooh now that you mention it, yeah wow he'll make a fantastic Wraith! (The sculpt really does remind me of Heyerdahl now you've pointed it out.) Really looking forward to seeing you wraithify him, though the way you've styled him withtthat perfect wig/leather outfit he's getting there already, I'm sure he'll be fantastic!

Mephisto.Pheles with that a-body-03, his stock photos from DC were just haunting me. This particular group of pictures have been on my mind since last October and i finally got the set together over the weekend.

I'm really interested to see what other folks do for styling, there is so much versatility! ...that green... i'm not sure i wanted to know how pearlescent it looks...

 

I'm finally biting the bullet and getting a Dennis! I know clothes are going to be a major hassle, does anybody know of anybody who takes commissions in that size? Or, as a temporary measure, do any of the pants from Alice's collections fit at least a passable amount? I'd love to take advantage of the sale she has going on right now Also, what size wig and eyes fit him best? I can't seem to find a straight answer

 

@lee_bee69 - I'm waiting for a Dennis as well I believe he is sold default with A-body-03, and i have one of those with my Mephisto. The stretchy type pants for 70 cm size dolls seem to work the best, though styles designed to fit tightly with low stretch material may not go over the DC hips. I used the measurements from DC's site and compared to the charts on various seller sites. feel free to DM me if you want more deets.
I have one 6-7 wig that i can fight onto Mephisto's head (also 20.5cm dia), but honestly a 7-8 is an easier fit, or what they call 1/3 "small head" works too. you can get a silicone cap to help larger ones stay on too.
I have 14mm eyes in both Mephisto and Fergus, but Dennis' eyes are much more open, so I'm not sure if he will need oval 14mm, or 16mm to avoid gaps.

 

I have an A-04 and he fits virtually every part of 1/3 leggings I have (though some are short). He's skinnier than a lot of my 1/3 girls, so he has no issues borrowing their clothes. IIRC at one point he also had pants from a Ringdoll Teen fullset.

 

Ah thank you guys!! That's very helpful I got the body with the jointed toes which, quite frankly, are very intimidating when it comes to shoes :0 I plan on dressing him in a punkish style so he'll be in big chunky boots which will hopefully contain each little piggy properly lol

 

i love mine's jointed toes
granted, they can sometimes reach Exorcist levels of freaky angles, but when they are good they are amazing! the boots really help if you wind up with pants that are too short. the fake leather pants and the wide leg ones from Bears worked well. i haven't gotten any jeans, only a pair for a much bigger doll. you could also take out the extra ankle piece if you've got a gap since you're using shoes.

 

Sorry folks for the double post... But i need some help if anyone can give advice. I received my DC Medeas (Kahik) on the A-Body-04-1 (Kevin's winged body) and i'm doing the box opening thing, and i cannot for the life of me get the wings on him.

Do any Kevin or A-body-04-1 owners have a tip or trick? Essentially, even with two people, we cannot get the elastic to come out the other side of the wings enough to put on the little dewclaw thing that holds them in place. the elastic they have the placeholder wire on is one of the main elastic in the torso. taking off his head and foot did not give enough slack somehow. it also is not on the arm elastic, since i took an entire arm off and no difference.

I used the separate elastic method, worked well for my purposes. he Nosferatu's into his box if i take the wing tips off, total bonus.

Anyone have any advice on where to find shoes for these giant feet? I'm looking for a pair of converse style shoes and some boots for Gowin. Also the website says the feet are 4cm wide, but I'm measuring them at 3.5cm wide. Did I measure wrong? I measured across the ball of the foot. The 9cm length is spot on.

 

I just ordered a pair of converse from alice's Collections, We'll see if they fit!!

 

I got adult body-08(feet length 9cm/width 2.5cm..) a few months ago and I really understand your concerns. It's long but narrow, so he can wear large boots and walkers for 65cm male dolls. I tried Pegasus(combat boots) and Phoenix(long boots) from Switch and it fits well.

I'm guessing all the shoes with an inner diameter 9.5-10cm(or outer diameter 10-11.5cm) will be fine.
My next try will be Luts SSDF ones.

 

Just learned by Alice's collection that Ingemar has been discontinued, I follow closely bjd news, has anyone seen notice of this happening? when did it happen?

 

I started to hunt him in April but several dealers said that he was discontinued.
DC didn’t announce that. I understood that I cannot have him and ordered just y-02 body. But they refused to make even Y-02 body separately, said that mold was broken.
I have no idea what happen there, but seems they are concentrated on releasing and promotion their new dolls and little by little discontinued all old molds. Some without any announcement. Old molds pop upped on second markets and a lot of bootlegs are upcoming (Ingemar too unfortunately) so they surely receive very Small amount of orders, and it’s not profitable to organize production. That’s my thoughts...

 

I am lucky to have one already, I just wanted to order another one in grey, I am not sure I will ever see one pop up on the secondary market...

And I ordered Evangeline head because I thought she was discontinued, and she apparently isn't.

 

It might've been around the same time they discontinued normal yellow skin without announcing it? I only found out when I went to order a body for a head last month.

 

@Bristol I noticed a few months ago that normal yellow wasn't showing up as an option on any of the DZ Chinese dealers on taobao, or their own site that I follow on taobao, and thought it was weird, as it was still showing up as an option on international dealers sites. I guess it finally trickled over then.

This isn't the first time DC/DZ discontinued something with little to no notice. The same thing happened with the big baby bodies.
