Received Doll Chateau Medeas with an A-Body-04-1 skeleton winged body on 5/2/2020, along with a few others in a huge box. Unfortunately, he arrived with a chipped ankle. At least the very delicate wings were in great shape, so we will get him fixed up soon enough. Kahik is Horseman aspect Tragedy. His wings were quite a challenge. Methos (DC Mephisto.Pheles) welcomes Kahik back into the tribe. Not to be outdone by spectacular wings, Methos manifests his antlers. Multi-panel shot first, then larger after. thank you for looking! So many pieces to bind. Be still now... There you are, feeling better? Kahik in Victorian regalia. My Flickr for more Thank you for looking! xGrimalkin
Wow, I'm amazed by these wings! Beautiful. How well do they pose? And how do they affect his stability?
What a cool pair of dolls! I'm glad that you were able to string the wings, but did they send you coated wire, or is that yours? Also, how do you tie off wire, or do you clamp it? That is, if that's what you're using. Ryu
@TheDoctor - thank you (ps: i love your screen name) @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - Hi! and thank you it's a little long, but i'll try to answer Q's below, with some observations about the mechanics • the wings have a pretty specific range of motion, but i'm pretty sure wiring or hot glue sueding would help the long bones pose better. they have tiny channels, so wire may be more trouble than usual. • Two of the magnet parts tend to fall off a bit right now. i need to investigate if maybe the magnets are set too deep inside, or maybe add stronger ones • the parts that attach to the shoulders have slots that encourage certain set poses. i think you could switch left and right though to get even more poses. that is another argument for stringing them separate of the body elastic since two people couldn't even get enough slack, and like you want to do that repeatedly. i do think i need to tighten the separate i used elastic a little more for tighter poses. • he currently cannot stand because he has a large 1/2" chip out of his ankle. i've heard they can balance though. actually, none of my DC's stand unaided right now, i need to learn how to suede them, or possibly restring entirely for the kicky ones. * the wires out of his back were provided by factory to keep a hold on the elastic inside his torso that DC intends you to use to string the wings. Nicola also had these. you pull on them, and i needed a second person to get even 1" out, but the additional 1/2" required, i couldn't get out no matter what we did. i took off a leg to the knee and no difference, which looking back, may be that the legs are individually strung in DC and i had the wrong elastic selected. > upshot is that i popped his back open and parked the lip of his solar plexus with a soft cloth between (watch your digits!) and used the wires to thread a separate elastic through the two holes and used that to connect the wings. i used two of the tiny replacement S hooks to connect the dewclaw retainers. those wires are living in his box though as they are very helpful to fish around inside. for more info, i have a link in the DC large doll thread about a tutorial another kind owner posted that helped me immensely.
Oh wow, that looks pretty intense! I'm glad that you were able to restring the wings, they're magnificent. I'm going to keep open the tab with the wing restringing since I'll be doing this for my Nicola-A when he comes home. (He's a transboy.) Thank you so much for the advise, I'm sure I'm going to need it when the time comes. I hope that DC will send you the replacement part with no hassle. Good luck! Ryu
^^^ Nicola was much easier with smaller body = smaller elastic the replacement calf will be a little more time i think since i have to wrangle the usps directly, then go back to dealer. i won't try anything cosmetic until i'm sure they don't need to see more of the damage etc. though i do love him barefoot... have some tall Na-Na style boots, the pointy type with a billion buckles, so maybe they will help him stand. i already have another scene in my head for him
Congratulations! Mephisto and Medeas are most handsome tall sculpts I ever saw (in my taste) They definitely in my heart, but unfortunately not my format, so I’m happy to see your guys every time you showing them. Thank you! Please keep posting Also was very informative about winged bodies seems common problem. Thank you for sharing. I did hot glue sueding last weekend to my DV Rosa FIRST time in my life, I’m worried in vain really, everything good right now. I’m not sure how it work with huge bodies, but I’m sure that will be a bit easier to handle them After this procedure.
i bought some low temp glue before the world went sideways, i just need to find the glue gun now... i've been bracing my courage to try, probably first one of the side characters haha
Hot glue sueding is pretty easy, you're basically making sure that the resin has something to "grip" as it moves back and forth. As we all know, resin on resin is pretty slippery, so you're just adding texture. I bring my sueding finger up a bit to make little spikes in the hot glue for the resin to grip. if you add too much glue, simply wait for it to harden, then peel it out of the joint, and try again. Sometimes it takes a few times before you figure out what works best. The hardest part is that even the low temp glue will be hot to the touch, so be careful. Oh, and you may need to take apart the joints you're working on, especially if the doll is tightly strung. If the stringing is loose enough, I simply twist the joint out of the way before adding the hot glue. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. That reminds me, I have two new dolls and a few older ones I should suede.... Ryu
Wow, such beautiful dolls~ I'm finding that I have a weakness for the stranger/more unique dolls. If I'm not careful I'll spend myself homeless! Lol! I also love how Methos welcomed his new friend~
Hi LonelyArtist - thank you yes, it is a slippery slope indeed, and i love the weird stuff too! Methos is such a diva hamming it up. in my mind he is welcoming his old friends and partners; they will be up to all sorts of shenanigans soon i'm sure
