Does your doll wear shoes?

Jul 10, 2014

    1. It depends on the doll but most of mine do

    2. this is so funny to look back on because now all of my dolls wear shoes and have to have shoes that go well with whatever they’re wearing. Lmao. It’s interesting to see priorities change in the hobby over time. :sweat

    3. My dolls always wear shoes unless it's a very casual lounging around outfit. They generally wear socks as well, no cold feetsies!

    4. Usually they do, and if they don't, it's because I have nothing that matches their outfit (or their feet). ^_^

    5. I have two dolls with shoes and I just ordered another pair from Alice's Collection. I have a difficult time with sizing. I ordered a pair from another shop that were 1/4 but when they arrived we're way too large. I need to learn to make my own.

    6. I didn't think I'd want shoes at all for my dolls but now they each have shoes... and I'm shopping for more :sweat The sizing is a real headache though. One recent pair is waay too small, no idea what my math was doing that day hahaha!

    7. Yes all my dolls wear shoes... unless the outfit doesn't require shoes.:abambi:

    8. I usually make dolls wear shoes, but maybe people cannot see their shoes Cuz I only take pictures of their faces.
If I take them outside, shoes are necessary to stand them by themselves. So, most of times they wear shoes!

    9. A lot of dolls seem to not wear shoes! 0.0
A great option with I think is to let them wear socks until finding some that fit.

    10. I feel like shoes are kinda difficult because it’s harder to fit them properly? A lot of fantasy dolls don’t wear shoes too

    11. I try to put all my dolls in an outfit while they are on the shelf, and that includes with shoes. They feel incomplete when they aren't wearing shoes. (They're also easier to stand with shoes on, so it's easier if I want to take them out for a quick photoshoot.) It'd be one thing if I put them in pajamas, though. I think with pajamas on, they'd look just fine with socks or nothing covering their feet.

    12. Currently neither of my dolls wear shoes! One is because she has none, and the other is because I've only got one pair for her and they don't really match any of her clothes (yet?). I did put the shoes on her for one photo session but since then both my dolls have just been sitting around in socks for months. Doll shoes are expensive and I think I prioritize clothes more than shoes for them.

If I could, they'd both have tons of shoes though. It would be nice to have a pair that matches each outfit, but that's a bit of a pipe dream with how much they cost. I'm thinking of learning how to make shoes to save a little and not have to spend a lot of time finding the perfect shoe for a fit.

The only dolls that would be permanently shoe-less would be two characters I may (or may not) shell as dolls someday. It's just part of their design that neither of them ever wear shoes, granted they are fantasy characters.

    13. I think my doll can get away with not having shoes due to her fantasy theme but i really do want to make her some nice heels.

    14. I'm planning to have my dolls in two fashion styles. When they're in kimono, they don't wear shoes. (Geta feet are hard to find and hybridize, and I'm too lazy to mod their feet.) When they're in smart casual, they have to wear shoes. But getting the right shoes is slow going - I don't want to risk getting the wrong sizes so I'm researching as much as I can before buying. Can't be too cautious, I say!

    15. Outfits feel incomplete to me without shoes! Even if i can't see them under the dress, it bothers me to no end.

    16. Mine mainly wear socks or stockings. I have a few fullset dolls that came with shoes, my others are shoe less for now :)

    17. Yes! Mia is currently wearing black faux leather lace up boots that are knee length. So far, all of her outfits look more finished with shoes.

    18. I can't stand my dolls not to wear shoes (or socks at least, if they're children or in "relax" mode). It just feels like they're not "finished", that something is missing. I have one without shoes because she has very big feet and I can't find shoes her size, and it drives me crazy everytime I look at her :sweat

    19. Yes, some shoes can help the doll to stand.

    20. I have a doll thats based after my spicy character and her entire character since i made her, well before i got into the BJD world, was, she hates shoes, theyre just in the way of her feet doing feet things and grabbing things with her toes like a weirdo, so my demon girl doll doesnt wear shoes, but my more elegant goddess doll has shoes and would look unfinished without them for sure!

    21. I have at least 2 pairs of shoes for each doll I own, and they wear them on the shelf, it makes them more stable imo!

    22. It depends! No shoes if they’re wearing loungewear or pajamas, shoes if they’re dressed all up.

    23. I recently have two dolls on the way and both of them don't include shoes in their outfits for some reason.
There is no way I'm gonna let this shoeless behavior slide!
I already bought some for them and they're on their way too, but no bare feet will be tolerated in this household!
Joking aside, I prefer them to wear a full outfit so they look like they have their life together (unlike me. Ha... ha...)

    24. If my dolls are going outdoors for something, they will wear shoes. It still makes me cringe at how much doll shoes cost; big reason why I don't have many of them. (Irony here, because how expensive are my dolls?)

    25. I think only two of my dolls wear shoes. One because he came with them, they help him stand better (& kinda just go with his character, he has one permanent outfit & the shoes go with that) and the other basically for one of the same reasons - stability in standing. Plus as she's a tiny, it's easy to find cute, super cheap shoes that will fit & are easy to get on&off. Other than those, none of my kiddos wear shoes as they're not a 'necessity' for me - I, as a person, only wear shoes when I absolutely have to & so I keep 99% of my dolls with the same er, aesthetic(?) vibe(?) whatever u wanna call it

    26. My doll, when she arrives, will wear shoes full time-- that is, once I can find some shoes for her that won't cost an arm and a leg, haha. I know why they're so expensive, but little doll shoes are like gold!

    27. I definitely consider shoes to be part of a completed outfit so they do always wear them when I’m taking them somewhere. Otherwise, they live in their “beds”/boxes, and I don’t wear shoes to bed, so neither do they!

I don’t find doll shoes thaaat pricey though? I mean, they are, but they’re about 1/4-1/3 of what I spend on my own shoes (I prefer to buy pricier well-made shoes every few years rather than the cheap ones that fall apart in a season) and I don’t think it’s unreasonable considering so many if them are basically made like real-life miniature shoes, complete with rubber soles and sewn lining.

    28. It depends! Some of my doll wear shoes, if I taking them outside. Some of them wear home clothes and pajamas with a socks.

    29. Shoes! I love doll shoes! I constantly think about them! :sweat I try to have enough variety that everyone has a few options to go with different outfits, thankfully most of them can share. As shoes are so hard to DIY nicely (lol at the naive me trying every now and then and supergluing my fingers together) I spend a lot of time digging through listings like mad to get the right look and size at a good price instead (there is a fragile balance, you see). Having mostly slim minis, they are a pain to find stuff for, though! Normal MSD shoes are too large, especially the cool ones made for boys and there are only so many makers that cater minifee/unoa sized feet  But once I find a nice option I feel very accomplished! I just wish there was more to choose from.

    30. Some of them share a couple of pairs, should buy more :)

    31. A few of my dolls have shoes, but they usually don't wear them unless needed for a photoshoot. My first 1/3 girl has about four pairs; my second 1/3 girl has one pair of black boots. My two SD17 boys have one pair of sneakers that they share. I already bought a pair of boots for my floating MSD head that's getting a body this spring, and my YoSD and tiny don't have shoes at all. Eventually, I will get my YoSD a pair of sneakers. For some reason, I get put off by the prices. BJD Shoes can get pretty expensive. Sometimes, it's like the price of buying yourself a pair of shoes, depending on the quality. I feel silly saying that because buying clothes for my dolls is expensive too. I often buy dresses, shirts, and bottoms for $10-$20, and the shoes are around $30 or more.

    32. A good few of mine wear shoes. My MYou Gina is wearing a pair of Rainbow High sandals at the moment, because it was the only thing that would fit, and I haven't managed to get proper shoes for her or at least one other of my 1/6 scale.

My anthro dolls don't wear shoes, but that's more that they've got unqiue feet sculpts so I prefer them not wearing shoes. Little paws on display!

    33. Nah, socks all the way. Well, sometimes they do wear shoes but honestly who cares? I like to think it's comfier for them without :XD:

    34. I'm reading this... and think that I'm quite obsess with doll shoes now lol.

Usually I store my dolls in their box, nude, when I'm not playing. But when they dressing up, unless the setting is indoor and don't need shoes, my dolls will always have many pairs for them to choose

Doll shoes is quite inexpensive where I live. I got my latest pair under $10 at a local second-hand dolly store. I have at least 30 of them now... while only having 4(+1 upcoming) dolls in active :sweat

I sold like... more than 10pairs of shoes in last 3years. (Regret some, but mostly happy, since I have too many)
Still predict that I will have around 40... In next 2-3years. There's no-way I can resist those good deal :doh

    35. Most of mine have shoes but a few of them with bigger feet like my SID and EID men don’t have because I have found those shoes quite hard to find and I am extremely picky so it has to be the right thing… *_*

    36. I like to have mine in shoes when I can, but I currently have 30 dolls, so not everyone has a dedicated pair of shoes yet. I won't store my dolls in shoes, especially without socks, because one of my first dolls had marks where his pleather shoes had disintegrated on his feet

    37. It depends on what she's wearing/the vibe. If she's wearing her sweatpants/comfy shirt, then socks only! Another outfit I usually just do some stockings as well.

    38. I prefer to keep them in shoes. I have a couple drawers of doll shoes, although I feel like my dolls tend to wear the same few pairs. My goth Minifee Ingrid pretty much only wears oversized combat boots.

    39. My personal goal is that every doll has at least a pair of shoes to wear, regardless of if they're wearing them or not.

    40. Coming back after ehhhh almost two years since my last post here? My current shoe-tuation? Enough shoes for all the dolls! (The ones who wear them, at least.) But oh man yeah it's so hard to find shoes for slim minis that aren't super big on them. Or, for some of my dolls, they don't quite fit standard MSD shoes but Minifee-size shoes are really tight on them! Most of the time I have to just suck it up and go with the big shoes; at least there's room for handknit socks in them.

I also, foolishly, got some Luts shoes for a couple odder-size dolls I have (Goblin Tales Cassie who might actually be able to get away with the other MSD shoes, and a DearSD Megu who cannot) and didn't write down the sizes. Even though they fit great. Ahh well...

    41. My dolls only wear shoes or clothes if they are out to play. At home, most of them are kept nude, barefoot and resting in their boxes, because I have no room for displaying them:(

    42. I have one doll that has shoes, and only because they were part of her full set. I've been deterred from buying shoes for the rest as I already tried and they were the wrong size for any of my dolls. They're too pricey for me to risk them not fitting again ;×;

    43. I have to agree with the user above me, my dolls don't wear shoes unless they came with a fitting pair. I've never bought shoes before but it sounds like a nightmare so I don't want to even try haha
