Does size matters for dolls being couples?

Jun 13, 2011

    1. The two dolls I have so far is a couple. I was lucky that the height difference between them is about the same as their original characters (got my first two dolls as gifts). I would feel that it was weird if the height difference was any bigger since their height is relevant to their characters. But it would also feel strange if one had been more mature than the other. If this had been the case I would probably look for another doll I felt is more right for the character.

    2. For me, it depends on the character. The size must fit the character so any size matching is okay. But I don't like to have a pairing of SD/Yo-SD or any smaller sized dolls. It's too much of of a size difference and will result to being mistaken as a parent and a child. Or the worse case scenario, pedophilia unless the owner is trying to imply it. Though it would be okay if the Yo-SD or the smaller sized doll has an "MSD or SD form". It's like the little one can turn into a small child but is actually older or just cursed to look like a small kid. :3 Anyway, it's your doll and your decision.

    3. I'm coupling my soulkid with my sd mark, just because I like that sort of "wait for me to grow up" type ~ haha

    4. I guess it is all about personal preference. In real life you see all sorts of people being together. It is about the chemistry. I suppose it is the same for a BJD owner... just figuring out what type of chemistry you want or what not. Personally I like it when one doll is slightly taller than the other one.

Like I was debating getting an IpleHouse EID but he would be 70cm and my girl is 62.5cm. I saw some pictures on Flickr of those two sizes together and although it doesn't look totally out of place, she still looked petite next to him. So instead I'm going to get the 65cm SID. Still taller than my girl but not too much.

    5. Matters to me, kinda. As long as the smaller one actually looks like an adult next to the bigger one, I think it's okay, but it's hardly portrayed that way. I think I've seen one-two couples that pulled it off to the extent that it doesn't look off to me, and yet they still come off more as older brother/younger sister, rather than a tall guy/short girl. The thing with mature MSD's is that their whole body is scaled down, and they look like little kids next to SD's, IMO. with taller and shorter humans, head, torso, hips and shoulders are still somewhat close in scale, however, with mature MSD's everything is scaled down, they just look like smaller mature dolls, like a whole different doll, rather than short same type of doll. like having a barbie next to an msd or something. But if one can pull it off, good for them!
I have seen only a few that look pedo-ish, most just seem really disproportionate to me, like they just don't belong.

    6. Personally, yes. If it's in a roleplay, or if the pictures are edited, maybe, but for my dolls personally, I need them to be roughly the same. I think. I currently have a 61cm Abio Angel Ling that I wanted to be in a relationship with my 65cm Iplehouse SID Lee. Because of his structure more than height though, my Abio Angel looks like a different species beside the other D: Very tragic. I had then considered pairing him with an even smaller doll, but a female that I have yet to get, but I can only imagine the comparison being even worse upon her actual arrival, haha. He'll have to be a loner poor chap. At least until I get used to it..

    7. I think size is of utmost importance! My couple is supposed to have a smaller, feminine, petite man with a taller, muscular type of guy. When I found my smaller doll it was my first time buying, and I didn't know how tall 71cm was! I had a horrible time finding his boyfriend, who's supposed to be the taller, manlier of the two. The first doll I found I thought would be perfect, but he ended up being 65cm. To me that didn't sound so bad, but then my wife measured it out for me and I knew I just couldn't buy that doll to be him. We went on a search frenzy to find the right doll, and finally we did! But the height difference completely changed which doll I bought, so to me that is super important. (At least for this pairing, since I'd had them worked out as role play characters for years before finding dolls of them.) And generally with my boy/boy couples I like to stick with the stereotypical yaoi seme & uke pairing style. (No need to tell me that's 'unrealistic,' I'm gay myself and have gay friends of all different sizes and love styles.)

I don't have a girl pairing (yet) but I think I'd like them to be about the same height, or one a little taller. I'm looking at another boy/boy pairing right now and those two weren't already in my head, so I'll be much more lenient on which one's taller. I don't really care. They're beautiful boys and they belong together no matter what.

    8. I'm biased... My MSD boy's boyfriend is an SD, but that's just how it turn out. The characters and stories were already set before we go the dolls.
But generally I don't like different sized couples, especially a SD man and an MSD girl. Ewww...just...ew. Same sex different size couples don't bother me as much simply because I don't like straight couples period. ((And I think cute little MSD boys with SD men is just adorable. Nothing really romatic, just cuteness. Cuteness is cute. :3))
General rule, keep it in the same size category. ((I'm kinda going all over the place here... >.>' I think I'm gonna stop trying now.))

    9. I'm like you, not really interested in straight couples. If by some weird, random chance I end up with one, I'm going to go with the good old fashioned boy taller than girl scenario. But every time I think of a boy and a girl their relationship forms as just siblings to me so that'll probably never happen.

    10. I'm certain this question has been asked and answered before

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?461635-Mixed-Sizes&highlight=couples

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?355450-Different-in-Heights&highlight=couples

But, to recap my answer the last time I answered this question... XD

I always giggle a bit at threads like this. Right now I only have minis, but I have plans for some SD's. My dolls are set up with my MSD's as my basic size, 5'2'' - 5'6''. These are adult characters, mostly shorter males. However the characters they portray are, at the moment, made of a fallen angel, a star elf, an ice elemental and a daemon/vampire half-breed.

I have daemons that I plan to make, and a few very tall elementals, that will be my SD guys, because they are all 6'2'' to 7'2'' in the case of one particularly large daemon. Some of them will have relationships with the MSD's, a couple of them are married.

This doesn't bother me a whole lot since, I've stood next to people who are 6'2'' or bigger, and being 5'6'' myself I find that I am REALLY REALLY SHORT beside these people. So that works for me. I can see where some people might be bothered by the 'proportions' or something, but in studying my really tall friends and my really short self I have decided that I don't care. They usually have bigger bodies and bigger everything else's too. Including heads. Its simply that they are bigger, so everything is larger. I'm short-ish, so all mine is smaller. My friend is really nearly twice my height, I barely reach his chest when I stand beside him.

So 45/60 couples don't bother me, but if people don't like it... That's why they make tags, ne?

    11. I wouldn't want dolls of different scales to be partners. I actually greatly dislike buying dolls in different scales at all (all my 'human' dolls come from one company, and all my 'demon' dolls from one company). For me, the reason I don't like inter-scale relationship dolls has nothing to do with height, but everything to do with scale. 45cm dolls, to me, don't look like 'short adults' next to 65cm dolls - they just look like out-of-proportion adults. It would be like if a movie had a bunch of regular-sized people, and then used CGI to shrink one down by a foot or so - that person wouldn't just look short, they'd look out-of-proportion and weird.

I can completely understand that other people have different responses to stuff like this though - I'm not surprised at all that not everyone shares my OCD about scale :XD:

    12. I think SDs are too tall for a msd. they would seem father and daughter:sweat
I would buy another msd but of a different size (42 with 46 for example)

    13. Yup, it matters a lot. It really isn't tall guy marry short girl because you can't really find shorties in the BJD world. MSD adult and SD adult together will look really really weird, like you married a miniature instead of someone short (like me). Maximum 5 cm difference for me to keep a natural look. Of cos stylr matters to me as well. Won't pair up a very anime-ish doll with a realistic one, it will look queer. Doll couples, in my opinion, have to be able to pass off as a couple without introduction.

    14. I prefer BJD couples to be of the same size. Although, depending on dolls character, I might approve of SD-boy with MSD-girl.

    15. I think as long as the SD is a boy and he doesn't exceed 60cm and the girl is an MSD, it looks alright.

    16. Yh i think when i make doll couples in the future i would like them to be the same size, preferably a couple centimeters difference between the two :D

    17. I find it disturbing for some owners to pair op a 70cm boy with a small 43cm MSD girl...
All that goes through my head is paedophilia. Same with a large SD(60+) and small MSD
no matter how adult like the MSD might look it still looks off to me ._.
Then rather find a small SD on some 50cm+ to pair with an MSD if it should be.

    18. I think they should be about the same size or look around the same age. Like if you had a SD/ MSD pair it might look like an adult with a child/teenager.

    19. To me it does yes. I would only pair and MSD up with and MSD unless there was some kind of weird story involved. I.E one character got reverted back into a kid somehow and now they have to figure out how to turn them back. But other then that they need to be in the same height range. That and the boy needs to be taller then the girl. That's just how it works in my head or that the fact in my own relationship my boyfriend towers over me. I'm barely five feet and he's six feet. @_@

    20. Personally, it's one of those "it depends." situations. Usually having the dolls be close to the same size is "normal" because of how people see MSD vs. SD. However, Tsuki, who is MSD has only had an affinity for SD guys, so I've written an SD *giant* into her background story.

    21. Okay, I know the different size couples thing has been discussed before, but I want to ask in a slightly different context.

If I'm being redundant, feel free to link to an old thread if you like. :3

I'm not looking for reasons why its right or wrong, I think there was already a thread about all the taboos of "it might look like an adult with a child" and such. Personally, that taboo doesn't really bother me, especially in the doll world. I also don't think that has to be the immediate assumption for different size couples, either.

I just got my MSD boy, Ches, and I'm planning on getting a Luts SDF to be his boyfriend, March. I'm not going to lie, these characters do differ in age and maturity (Ches is 14 and March is 17, but that's part of the reason why the size difference is necessary. March is significantly more mature (and taller, lol) than Ches is. In my case, its two teenagers with prominently different maturity levels and personalities. The age gap might be a little big for some people, but oh well. I like a sort of "little brother, big brother" relationship between boys. :sweat

      So, I'm curious.
How many of you actually DO have different sized couples or plan to? What are their stories? How come you decided to go with different sizes?
Share your stories with me :3

    22. I did, but I sold one and want to sell the other. I may reshell the characters later, in which case I will try and keep a pretty decent size difference. MSD and SD sized where technically a bit too far apart, but it was as close as I could get at the time. I have another doll who might end up with a considerably shorter doll for a girl friend, but that could be awhile in the future, and I've been known to change my mind. Like you, size differences in dolls don't bother me unless it creates an issue with characters not matching up with their bodies.

    23. I have only one right now, though they aren't yet in doll form. The reasoning being that they're completely different species, one is human and the other an anthro. =3

    24. I'm planning to pair up a Doll Chateau Pierre with an Iplehouse YID if their new YID boys appeal to me. There would be a 10 CM difference between them (which is pretty huge, but not as huge as MSD and SD), but my Pierre is going to be a demon named Valefor and therefore slightly unnaturally tall and skinny (probably almost 7 feet tall as a character) while the YID is going to be a young man who summoned Valefor by accident (probably around 17 years old and not fully grown yet). This won't happen until I pay off my credit card though. XD

I think pairing a very adult looking doll with an extremely young looking doll would be squicky as hell, but as long as it's not pedophilia, I don't have problems with it.

    25. totally OT, but I thought it might be amusing... I remember when I was young
Barbie was dating He-man and also guys from the A-team (same size as He-man)
      They had serious height issues...

    26. Well, I'd like to point out that since they are only dolls, its not technically pedophilia... o _o;

    27. I'm not ever planning on having a different size couple (just because it would be waaaaay too hard to photograph). The farthest I would go is maybe 10cm. Like a 60cm with a 50cm or something like that. Photography wise, 10cm is still a lot so that's probably the maximum I would handle.

Whilst I don't have a problem with size ranges (I mean, human height differences vary a lot; its just that usually with different heights the sculpt maturity varies tremendously making it seem like pedophilia which I do indeed have a problem with) I probably won't ever get any. But I'm also very picky, I can't handle if the girl is taller than the guy. Which is really irksome seeing as I'm a 17 year old ASIAN girl that's a bit over 5'10". Ugh... well anyway, I digress...

***and pedophilia is a concept as well as a crime, just saying. The concept was made into a crime once people started thinking it was wrong. Which is why we have all this stuff about statutory rape and all that but again I digress... not making an argument, I just love talking in legal terms <3**

    28. Yes. I do have a MSD/SD couple. For me, the main problem was that the dolls in question are inspired by pre-existing characters and I did find almost perfect dolls for them. However, one was an SD, the other an MSD. Still searching for the perfect SD sculpt to replace the MSD, but for now that's how it is. Age wise there is almost 9 years difference between the two. Which strangely enough is sort of canon, since the characters I'm shelling are from a manga..Tokyo Babylon anyone? The MSD IS of legal age though, so no pedophilia is going on. XD.

    29. Hm. You added this after you posted in response to something I said.

I understand its a concept, but I don't think it should be carried so negatively into fictional territory. People should have the right to explore different concepts in a fictional sense that is hurting no one, without being judged. Sorry, but I'm getting kind of tired of being called a pedo because I like shotacon. :/

Anyway, this isnt even what my thread is about, I wanted to avoid this subject all together because people tend to be so narrow minded about it and I was just going to mind my own business. sigh.

    30. I'm still squicked by it.

    31. Not all of us are. :3

    32. and? That is sort of obvious.

I'm with the people who say that as long as the relationship being depicted isn't paedophilic, I have no problems with different sized couples. (Proportions being off might bug me a little, but hey, not my dolls, so I don't actually care all that much.) In-story, different species may well have different proportions, and there's nothing saying that "couple" has to be either implicitly or explicitly sexual. I admit that I can't quite understand pairings that are both supposed to be human (and of normal-ish heights) where one is one scale and one is another, especially when the heights are only a few inches apart. Human heights do not normally work that way, but again, not my dolls, so whatever. If they're supposed to be adults of whatever species, fine. Probably won't interest me, but go ahead and do it.

Yes, they're just dolls and it isn't actually hurting anyone, but I'm among the squicked-by-loli/shota. (I cannot wrap my head around thinking that's cute or sweet. Ick.) I will say, though: I have the right to be grossed out by loli/shota relationships, but not to tell anyone that they can't have whatever kind of couple they like. I'd prefer they didn't show it anywhere near me, though. That happens to be one of my few 'Do Not Want, Ever' things. (Changed this last part, because I can't honestly say that I won't at least raise an eyebrow over someone who has one of these couples.)

I actually have a doll who was the SD half of an SD/MSD couple for a while. Mostly, it was because the characters got along really well (joint plans for world domination, anyone?). It was always supposed to be sort of weird and silly, really, and now both are paired with dolls of their own size. The size difference between them was more or less explained away by the fact that my doll's character is a seven foot plus tall elf, and the fact that the other person's doll is a completely different kind of being. There was never really anything serious going on there, and we hardly ever even photographed them together, though. It was not about "OMG these guys are so cute together", but more "these guys are creepy and disturbing/ed socio/psychopaths, look at them plotting your doom via the clever use of big cats."

    33. Obviously. My opinion is that as long as both dolls look like they're more mature and not children, I'm okay with it, but if one doll is obviously meant to be a child and the other obviously an adult, it squicks me.

That's just my opinion. You don't have to share it.

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure it still IS pedophilia, because it's getting off on the idea of a child in a sexual situation, even if the child isn't real. However, I am by no means an expert on pedophilia and I REALLY don't feel like researching it.

    34. I do not have any couples at the moment, however I do want to do a rather "extreme" pairing by DoA standards- a 70cm and what is considered a tiny. I would like to point out that the tiny in question is of the Soom Faery Legend line, meaning that while she is small she has a completely adult looking mature body. And when shown next to a 70cm iple-guy for example, she is what I imagine to scale for something of her species because she is a fae creature and very clearly not human. After all I've never heard of sprites being anywhere near the size of the average human. Some fairies maybe, but she's simply not that kind.

I think I'd like to get her a big hunky centaur but it'll be some time before that happens. Lol

    35. I was extremely tempted to pair the DC Pierre I'm planning to get with a soom fairy legend too, but my friend and I started plotting the story for my demon chara and her chara (who will get paired with him) ended up being a human instead. :P Oh well.

    36. I keep shipping Niccolo and Epifan even though they're 20cm apart. *_* Niccolo always has to sit down for Epifan... Epifan is supposed to be short for an adult which is why I picked a 50cm doll. Niccolo just ended up taller than I planned because I liked the proportions of SSDF with the head better than with the shorter bodies.

They're not even from the same story. I just like putting the two dolls together. But as Niccolo is a gangster who needs people dead fairly often, I assume he'd get along with a vampire who doesn't mind who she works with as long as she gets to eat and somewhere safe to sleep. But since Epifan is asexual, I don't think they get past cuddles and kissies.

    37. I don't take 'couple'-type photos between my different-sized guys because of the whole scaling issue-- while I don't think of my tiny's character as being a child, because his resin body looks very child-like, I keep him very un-sexual all the time... he looks too young for it not to creep me out, to try and make him 'sexy'. But, he and my MNF boy are kind of 'heterosexual life partners', not a couple-couple, but very much a two-person unit. Occasional asexual cuddly poses sometimes occur, but they tend to look like much older/younger siblings.

Since I plan on moving Maurice's character from floating MSD head to SD doll, but I might get his partner first, in which case there will be a period of time where there's a... really weird size difference (Maurice, as a character, has spent some time as a living severed head).

      =^__^=
      Anneko

    38. If all goes well, I may end up with a "tiny" and an MSD. "Tiny" in brackets because it's teetering on the side of MSD - chibi Unoa at 35 cm in height, who is supposed to be a really petite 4'11" young woman (and who is 17 years old - so that's her adult height). It works out PERFECTLY, actually, because at that height and scale, her boyfriend should be 42 cm (which is about 5'9"), which is the exact height of a MNF-Narin hybrid I'm planning, and all of the really tall characters are in the 42-47 cm range (one of whom she also ends up dating). Of course, they will all have 6-7" sized heads, otherwise it would look reeeaallly funky.

I was also at one time (before I realized SD's aren't for me) planning a Supia Rosy and an EID - they're technically the same "size", but had about 14 cm of difference in height (which would've portrayed a very similar scaled height relationship as the one I'm trying now). I kind of like the idea of partners having very different builds - be it a petite woman with a tall man, or a voluptuous, tall woman and a more effeminate, lithe man. (But I don't build my character relationships around it. Sometimes it happens that way, especially when your main character is under 5 feet tall, haha.)

I truthfully however do not think that MSD/SD couples work (Unless the MSD is reeeeaaally tall, and the SD is like, an Idealian 51 or a Souldoll Vito). Squicky pedo territory aside, they just kinda um... Don't really look like they belong in the same world. You know how they took the actors who played the hobbits and digitally shrunk them down? That's what it tends to look like. MSD's, really.... Do not look like children to SD's. They usually look like young adults, completely out of scale with SD's - because of the difference in head size (which is the part of you that grows the smallest amount in your life), and the scale of the body. Of course, some MSD's can look like really young children (especially Alex Doll from Dollmore, which were specifically sculpted to look like children to SD's), but most of them just look hilariously out of scale without any camera or "never being present in the same shot" kind of optical illusions (especially standing up).

    39. I briefly had a 65/30 couple. One was a baby dragon and the other was a little girl, so, naturally, size difference. X3 They were more like one of those kindergarten 'couples' than anything else, though.

I also have a 70/60 pair, dunno if you'd call that different size couple. I did a shoot once with them standing next to each other and creeped myself out because it looks so pedophilic, even though both characters are way over age, and are both SDs. At least I managed to make them work by getting high-heeled shoes for the 60cm doll and styling her makeup older. As a result, SD/MSD always end up looking pedo to me. It's creepy.

And if they don't look pedo, eg with mature minis, they look out of proportion.

    40. Shailara and I are a prime example! But we each own halves of our pairs as they all belong in a co-developed story.

We have C and Patrick - SSDF Avalanche and JDF Wintery '11 (70/56)
That have a difference in age but it doesn't really matter at this point as they're both adults. C is simply taaaaaall.

We have Hellel and Ramiel - DoT Code 02 and Minifee Chloe boy (60/40)
however Ramiel is meant to look a lot younger -despite not being exactly that, being an angel; the youngest of the angel brothers, but still well over one hundred...

We also have Bosschan and Ainsell - IoS Chaos on 70cm body and Unoa Zero Sleeping Marion (70/60)
      Which is not that huge a difference if you ask me. Marion is a fairly regular in height lady. Shou is simply tall and lean. Nothing he can do about it. xD;

The most comic of all our differently sized couples however used to be
Nicolai and Julliana - DikaDoll Murong and DreamingDoll Airi (70/40)
      Again, it's a matter of height. Nicolai is simply really tall while Airi is just a really short woman. xD;
Nicolai is now paired up with Pavlova however, who is a DreamingDoll Judy thus making the difference 70/60 again

    41. Dolls most often resemble smaller scale humans. Therefore, dolls can definitely depict pedophilia, which is predatory and disgusting.

How many of you actually DO have different sized couples or plan to?
I plan on pairing a 59cm with a 65cm. The shorter one will be fully womanly in body and face. Humans are different heights in real life, but I'd never make the difference too great with my dolls since shorter heights in the doll world are usually accompanied by more childlike faces and bodies.

How come you decided to go with different sizes?
One of my dolls needs a girlfriend. I recently bought clothes for a new 59cm height Iple doll, because I fell in love with how curvaceous and feminine the body is. So, I need to eventually purchase a doll in that size when a mature face comes along that I like.

    42. I think it would be super great if we could have a nice thread to discuss mixed couples and the pros/cons of owning them without people getting all judgmental and holier-than-thou on each other. So let's nix potentially offensive comments, ok? =3 Let's leave how awful you think it is to one of the eight other "Is it right or wrong?" threads. Or livejournal. =D

How many of you actually DO have different sized couples or plan to?
      I have one, a Delf Lu-Wen with a Mini-fee Vampire Woosoo.

      What are their stories?
      The Lu-Wen is a fairy and the Woosoo is a vampire. Not that I at all believe the characters have to be magical creatures to justify mixed sizes, it just sort of happened that way. But their relationship is actually pretty one-sided, and the fairy is somewhat mean to my poor little vampy. It's kind of sad, actually. .;_;

How come you decided to go with different sizes?
I just happened to like those dolls, and bought them regardless of their sizes. And the story just happened to progress the way it did, regardless of their sizes.

    43. Well, they won't be a couple, but my MSD (his character is 19 years old) is going to have a 70cm brother (25 years old or so). I don't much mind the whole 'unrealistic' thing, or that both my adult characters will be in different scales. I don't aim for super realism and I like both sculpts as grown ups *shrugs*.

    44. I have a 70cm who's little sister is an MSD, but he's supposed to be massively tall at 7' plus and she's a child. That is as close as I'll ever get.

I did have an MSD/SD couple for a while but the scale was way too off for me. It got to the point where I couldn't look at them next to each other anymore. I have no problem seeing MSDs, especially mature minis who in no way look like kids to me, as adults, but head size and proportion will never match up for the size difference to work for me. Even if the MSD is supposed to be short, they still aren't proportionate to a short adult next to SDs....Minis are called minis for a reason...they're mini versions of the larger dolls - 1/4 scale vs 1/3 scale. I can't get past that with my dolls, so I sold my girl and upgraded her to a Zaoll, who is proportionately a very short woman next to my SD sized dolls.

Personally I don't care what other people do with their dolls, but mixing scales like that doesn't work for me, all my MSD sized dolls are either young children, Angels who only look like children, elves (who are miniature next to adults) or in a whole different "universe" scaled to fit their size.

    45. I have a 60cm CP Lu-wen vamp / 70cm DOD Kalix pairing at the moment, and I've been (not very diligently, I must admit) looking for some partners for my zaoll. The first pairing just sort of happened unplanned, but I'm glad that it did. The characters complement each other well and they look good together, I think. In the story, the relationship really helped the 60cm character get over some difficult personal issues he had been having.

      So much this.

Sho-chan meant for this to be a discussion thread, and these personal attacks are kind of ridiculous. Calling someone "predatory" and "disgusting", for example, is only going to cause damage and create a hostile environment. This whole pedo-accusatory conversation is pretty irrelevant in regards to the original questions. If you tried a multi-sized couple and it didn't work out because you personally got bad vibes, then yeah, that follows the discussion and is completely valid, but verbally assaulting someone because of their doll pairing should not have even come into play.

The marriage age is still as low as 13 with parental consent in the U.S., and the age of sexual consent is even lower in other countries, so bringing in the legality of it doesn't do jack in my opinion. I'm not going to include my personal opinions regarding the subject other than since no one is being hurt here why do some people feel the need to judge and put down someone else over a *fictional* pairing?

    46. I have plans for a MSD/SD couple, but the MSD is far from being a child and I in no way agree with pedophilic concepts and portrayals. I'm aiming to get my MSD a more mature body, but his skintone makes it difficult.

The reason for the size difference is important to his storyline, and I wanted to show that with Soren's doll form. He is a fallen angel and his physical growth was ended upon his falling (human age equivalent of 18 or so)and Soren was a small guy to begin with. Mind you, his true age is over 3000 years. His partner's physicsl aging was not stunted and he is definitely on the tall side. It's more comical than anything and once Soren gets his new body, the difference shouldn't be so much of an issue if I can find a close-to-in-scale body for his partner.

I love the MSD's sculpt as he is perfect for my character. I'm really too attached to let him go either. If only the proportions weren't so awkward between SD and MSD.

    47. One con of owning SD/MSD couples? Getting called disgusting and pedophilic. Because people who only see the pictures without knowing the context will have the tendency to jump to that kinda conclusion. /shrug

I guess a pro would be, uh, if you can't find two SDs or two MSDs that suit the characters and/or reflect the desired height size difference. ._. I still don't like SD/MSD pairings, partly for the creep factor, and partly for the proportion factor. I think 70/60 couples can look quite cute. 65/26 can be absolutely adorable too, because at least they are in proportion. =3=

    48. It seems like a lot of couples in the 70/60 range are considered a size difference...? To me since they're still all 1/3 scale, it's more like a short and tall adult than a huge size diff. I don't see a problem with it at all. My Dollmore Kara Klum is 58cm and my Dollshe Saint is 70cm and (while they are not a couple) their head/faces are about the same size....they look very much like a hugely tall guy next to someone who's on the short side without seeming out of scale. Especially since their hands are nearly the same size and their feet actually are the same size. I agree with leXis, I think 70/60 couples are cute!....I should see about making one XD

    49. I have an MSD/SD couple and my main reason for that is that the characters they are have the significant height difference of 9" in their story. Moswen (AoD Chi, 46cm) is supposed to be 6'-3" and Kijika (AoD Collab Adonis, 58cm) is 7'-0". To me, their doll forms are absolutely perfect height-wise to represent their characters.

Funny enough, I also have a couple in the MSD size with a significant height difference. Tyhlian (OD Tae Vampire, 40cm) is 5'10" and Dakvir (Doll-Love God-Enjoy boy, 46cm) is 6'-4" in their story. Tyh also has a significantly smaller head than Dak, but again, they look perfect to me.

I also have plans for a triad with a height difference between the partners. They will be OT dolls for DoA, but one will be 23cm while the other 2 are 28/30cm. Again, this is what the characters demand. My grail doll pairing (Unidoll Ark, 70cm & Impldoll Miguel The Demon Hunter, 64cm) also has a significant height difference.

Hmmm, I think I might have a thing for height differences in my pairings.

    50. it depends on the sculpt for me. some just dont look in proportion to each other ^^ but if done well, i dont mind it at all.

    51. If you like "shotacon" and seeing little kids in sexual relationships with adults, you better be prepared to be judged for it. You can't just say "don't judge me, I can look at whatever I want" and expect people to accept it. Pedophilia is sick. Drawn representations of pedophilia is sick. Photostories about pedophilia is sick, and glorifying pedophilia and treating it as if it's somehow "cute" is ultra sick. Don't want to be judged for that? Keep your fantasies to yourself and don't spread them all over the internet.

I replied to the original thread this was merged with about sizes, but I'll say it again: an SD with an MSD is never going to look like two adults together. Those people that are trying to make their MSD an adult or teenager next to an SD or larger are either pedo and trying to somehow justify it "oh he's not a 7 year old, he's a 999999 year old vampire that looks, dresses, talks, and acts like a 7 year old!" Or just out of touch with reality and human height and proportion. MSDs come up to the waist of SDs. There is no way an adult will come up to the waist of another adult unless one of them is a "little person" in which case the head and torso are the same proportions but the limbs are much different lengths. I'm 5'10" for someone to come up to my waist they would have to be like 3 feet tall. Do YOU know an adult that's 3 feet tall? Because I don't.

A lot of people that have the MSD/SD couples decide that their MSD is a teenager and their SD is a young adult. That doesn't work. I'm 27 and if I were to take a stroll through my local highschool, I wouldn't be walking through a crowd that's eye-level with my belly button. They would be mostly the same height as me. People are almost done growing when they're 12-13. They grow only a few more inches after that, not 3 feet. It's SUPER rare for people to grow any significant amount after they turn 18 as well. Your average person in the real world instinctively knows all this. They see someone with someone else who is waist height on them and thing: adult and child no question. If they see something that looks like an adult in a sexual or romantic situation with something that looks like a child in comparisson they will think pedophilia. I think too many of us have gone off into dolly la-la-land where everything is acceptable.

The doll hobby is so permissive that glorifying things like rape, pedophilia, torture, and incest is perfectly ok. Things that in the real world would make people go "ugh! What the hell is wrong with you?!" are cool and edgy and "cute," yet if you say "hey that's messed up" then there's something wrong with you? You're like this crazy evil and mean nazi. What the hell?

    52. I personally prefer same size dolls with a little height difference to seem more natural.
My current boy is 62CM and the doll I want to get next for as his boyfriend is about 68-70CM.
I don't really care if other people have SD and MSD [and such] paired off because that's their personal preference, not mine. I myself wouldn't have such a pairing because I don't have any characters that would suit that.

    53. I agree SO MUCH with this! if you don't want to be considered a pedophile, don't watch stories about little boys having sex, like a pedophile would! simple as that =__=

I've always liked couples with noticeable height difference. as long as they are both grown up that is. so to me, an 60/70 or 50/60 couple is the absolute cutest thing <3
but 20cm of difference is a bit too much for me. even if the MSD one is mature, the proportions will still look wayyyyy off and unrealistic!

    54. I agree with most of your post, but I kinda think a mature MSD could work with an SD if the MSD was supposed to be some sort of fae creature (like the short kind of elf or something).

I wouldn't have such a pairing myself, because I think photographing it would be a massive pain in the ass, but I'd accept that explanation (as long as the MSD really did look mature and not like a child).

    55. Well, most may assume that the smaller the doll, the younger. Not always true (minifees for example), but in a lot of cases it is.

Personally, I want the dolls to have similar proportions and be of somewhat similar size mainly because... it would just look odd to me to have like... my SSDF with a minifee(since I used them as an example) boyfriend. I'd rather my doll's partner a similar type of doll (SD, MSD, you get it). Since he is SD sized basically, I want his partner to be SD sized... So... size kind of does matter to me. But that's just me personally. To each their own, yeah?

    56. In regards to the height issue... My mother came up to my cousins waist, and she was NOT a little person. She was short, yes, but not a little person. I remember looking at her, this tiny women who was anywhere from 4'8 to 5' depending on what doctor she saw, next to my towering cousin of 6'5, and laughing at how her head barely came up past his hips. Iv seen even shorter people in my city, and people like athletes are normal to be around 6'5 to 7'. So, yes, full grown adults next to full grown adults can still have quite the height difference- remember humans come in all sizes, just like dolls. Now finding an MSD and SD to pull off the portions while looking mature? Doable, but difficult.

I myself need a short doll to go with an SD- one character is 5'4, the other is 6'5. I'm leaning towards a Zaoll, which should look just about right with a 60cm doll.

    57. Well, there goes the nice conversation. Thanks. :|

    58. isn't what happening here is like what happening in our current society... people tend to criticize others, not knowing what the other side is... it is sad that we humans become too judgemental.... as an asian living far from my native country it is hurtful to hear that it is disgusting to have relationship with a person beyond my race just because that person have a mature face and a height that i could never achieved while i am short like a junior high kid with a face of a 13 yr old....

we customized our own dolls based on our own taste not based on other people's. all of us have different perspective and opinions... it is not wrong to speak up for ourselves... but it is so wrong to push our own opinion to others... what would you feel when someone called your child disgusting just because of their preferences...

      wouldn't you be hurt?

    59. I wouldn't be disgusted by you pairing up with a person of a different race. O_o I just think it's squicky when people pair up adult dolls with children (when it's INTENDED to be an adult and a child, not an adult and a much shorter adult).

I understand where you're coming from though. I have a friend who is in her late twenties, has a young child and is pregnant with a second child, but she looks very young due to her petite frame and "cute" face. She gets all sorts of weird, disapproving looks when she's out with her kid or with her kid and husband, and she's even had people berate her about being a teen mom. Sucks when people make assumptions and then get up in your business. :\

I would also like to add that I'm not pushing my opinion on anyone else. I'm not saying that everyone has to agree with me, it's just how I feel.

    60. violetdepravity : I think you're overreacting a bit. we only complained about those who have MSD/SD sized couple with the intention of making the MSD a child, as Quetz pointed out.
when I see a SD/MSD couple, I look at how the smaller one is styled and if still in doubt, I look for the character's bio. I'm not just gonna straight up assume the owner is a pedo. there are super short and super tall people in real life. so why not in the dollie word too?
the difference between a small adult and a child, is the brain. the maturity is sooooooooo not at the same level and this is why I would look down on a 30 year old dating a 13 year old, but not a 30 year old with a short 27 year old *shrug*
