Does anyone else compulsively look up pictures of dolls they ordered while waiting?

Embarrassing? I'm pretty sure 99% of doll collectors already do this, myself included... just add the obligatory binge shopping for wigs, eyes, and clothes.

 

I occasionally look at the company photos, when I'm paying off a layaway and waiting on the doll to arrive once it's shipped. Sometimes, I'll settle on one character when starting the layaway, then I'll maybe switch to a different one halfway through. Or I'll just make sure they're still the doll for me. It's like I kind of forget what they look like, if I don't keep checking back.

I've got a Charmdoll Carson on layaway, currently, and I keep flipping between two Touken Ranbu characters for him. I see the potential for both in his face; it's just who's going to be a little easier to style, because I've got another character doll that needs work and a few OC dolls to tend to as well.

 

sadly yes lol. Either the actual sales post, or looking up and searching other owner photos... not that it makes my own doll come any sooner! But I love to see other people's ideas and creativity while I wait and... obsess...

 

Looking at photos of the dolls I ordered makes the wait so much easier for me. It's a good reminder that one day, I'll be holding that doll in my own hands! It's also a great way to keep learning about the hobby, because when I find one person on Instagram who has the heads or bodies I'm waiting for, I can see their other dolls too, and... Figure out more dolls I'm in love with and put on my wishlist... lol

 

I ordered my first doll last month, and to help my impatient self wait, I made a journal on my phone to collect doll pics.

I’ve even started to collect pics of dolls that aren’t on my ‘I Want’ list. I put the name of the doll owner or company and just collect all the amazing pictures.

 

Yes, I do this too. It sucks when the doll has already been released but there are no owner pics, that’s like doubly vexing haha But even when there are some, it’s never enough. I always want to see more more more!!!

Yes! I ordered an in stock from denver doll, so I shouldn't have to wait long, but I am obsessed with seeing her before she actually gets here! Getting style inspiration, etc.

 

guilty! I usually want to see how others would dress up the doll or what other face ups would be best for the doll. Even if I have my doll with me I still check on other similar sculpts.

 

Absolutely! I just obsess while waiting...

 

I like to look at them occasionally and dream about what I'm going to do with them once they arrive. It helps me work out plans for how I'd like them to look.

 

Seconding everyone else's agreement here I keep a Google doc I paste pictures into so I can look at it everywhere.. it's important!!

 

Oh yes lol.. all three of my dolls after I ordered them I was looking up pictures 6 to 10 times a day .. it became so bad my wife had to drag me from it a few times

 

Yes! I have been looking at pictures of Luts Lemon every day since she was ordered in late May. Sometimes I even message the owners and tell them how much I love theirs and how it makes me more excited to get mine. One lady especially liked hearing this because her Lemon had been her first doll.

My first doll barely had any user pictures when I ordered her and this drove me nuts. Don’t think anyone else on this forum had her! I would search the internet for pictures every day in hopes that someone somewhere got her and posted pictures (which did happen, like once lol).

My second doll, a Luts Bory, was considerably more popular — not as popular as he/she is today — but definitely more popular than my Soulkid. Made the wait for her far more bearable lol.

 

I feel like I've been climbing up the wall trying to look for in-hand pictures of the Loongsoul guy I ordered, but I only found photos from people splitting the outfit...

I do look for photos a lot for dolls I'm waiting on or just am interested in, I love to see the different ways people make them up! It gets a little more difficult to find if they're a bit more uncommon, though. I also like drawing over blank sculpts to see how I'd like to plan them out, but I'm not there yet on doing a full faceup myself, ahaha.

 

Same, I love seeing what other people do with their dolls. Even after receiving a doll I will still look up pictures of the same doll I have, just not everyday lmao

 

So guilty of this too, and the obligatory binge shopping for clothing, eyes, wigs, shoes etc. Also to second many here, looking at owner pics is also really satisfying. I do this a lot before I decide on buying a doll since a sculpt can look so different depending on the faceup, styling etc.

 

Totally doing this with the two new dolls I ordered. I keep looking up the face sculpt for one to decide what to eventually tell a faceup artist what I prefer, but the second I'll need to modify the faceup when he's here. I've probably added like 100 pageviews to each doll's profile since I ordered.

 

I saved pictures of Ehecatl to my phone's Favorites while I was waiting for him to arrive, so I could look at them often.

 

Yes. I even keep a small folder of some of the company pictures of the dolls that I own. I still have one on my desktop of my last boy that got home to me. My Sinjin is a Telesthesia & Dragon - Piao Chiyue. I just love looking at all pictures of this doll.

I also have an entire folder dedicated to my Alistair for company pictures I scraped up about him. He is a Heisejinyao Ziyulinglong - Ao Ze Tian, they aren't made anymore so I grabbed up every single company picture that I could find of him.

While waiting for them to arrive, or even after they get home, I still like seeing the company pictures, and other peoples versions of the same dolls that I own.

 

I do as well. Sometimes to see different faceups on them and just overall looks.

Funnily, that's how I found out my one boy I had purchased was now his fourth owner, as I found his listing from his previous owner's. He has a forever home with me now.

 

I constantly try to look up the sculpt on rednote and instagram to see if anyone else has gotten the doll and how they're making them look lol. Have only seen one owner picture this far though.. but I also look at the company photos probably several times a week

 

I've done that so often, I'll even put their pictures as my phone wallpaper. My most recent endeavor has been making mood boards for them before they even arrive and have that as my wallpaper.

 

All... the... TIME!
It's so difficult, waiting... Looking up other people's photos helps me visualize the doll differently, and confirm that I like what I've purchased.

 

I've been looking at the product pics for Miao ZhangZhang a whole lot lately and I keep finding little things about them that I hadn't noticed the first time around. Like their little kitty fangs! Or the cat paws on her ribbon earrings! They're just so charming and I can't wait for them to arrive

 

I’m so old school - I used to print photos of dolls and tape them to my bedroom wall! This was obviously quite a long time ago pre-smartphone world

 

Makes it so much more fun
