When we moved into this house 6 years ago, I unpacked everything except my hobby room. I did it dead last. I had to buy new shelves and storage stuff in order to unpack everything. This picture is a bit old and I have a ton more stuff in my room now. The other half of the room is where I craft. I sew and scrapbook primarily.
Living Dead Dolls! Sometimes I adopt Goodwill Barbies and give them the trashiest possible makeovers. If only there were a real 80s Groupie Barbie. I have a fascination with any dolls that are vintage and sorta creepy.
I used to collect other dolls. I mostly had Silkstone Barbies and Gene Marshall dolls. I ended up selling them all of when I got into BJDs. I still love fashion dolls, but there just isn't room in this apartment for me to keep All The Things. I was looking at some really cute Momokos when I was in JP last month, buuuuut I need to stick with one doll type for the foreseeable future.
I collect Kimmidolls ^^ I love the artistry way they are made. Quite a small collection so far, but I started out with two wonderful limited girls I found at a very low price compared to regular prices ^^
I've been collecting Monster High since 2010, but gave most of the ones i didn't want anymore to my daughter... who now has a collection that's too big for her room lol I've also been collecting Ever After High, one DC Superhero Girls doll (Harley), a couple of the MLP:EG minis and various small figures. I also recently added an Azone to the list of things i'm collecting but now i want another one, haha.
I collect Monster High, Ever After High, and Once Upon a Zombie dolls. I also love DC Superhero girls, but am still waiting on their secondary release
I wish there had been a Catwoman in the first wave of those DC girls! I hope she comes out eventually, because I'd jump on that. I'll probably eventually pick up a Batgirl and maybe a Poison Ivy, but Catwoman would have sucked me right in... I wish they'd done a more classic Harley, just because I always thought her initial design was so cute... I feel like if I was going to get a Harley to go with my potential Ivy, I'd need to make her a new old costume, the Suicide Squad/Arkham games look just isn't my thing, especially for a cute young version... but I guess her new look is popular right now. And I do appreciate the new more action combat-appropriate makeover Batgirl got on her costume for the line, that one is super cute, so it's not that I'm just change-resistant. I just miss the old... well, *harlequin* Harley Quinn costume.
I collect alot of other dolls other than bjd's, I only have about five bjd's altogether, really six if you count my Sybarite, which IS a bjd but not according here to DOA. She's a fashion bjd. I collect Barbie, vintage Barbie, who started it all, Fashion Royalty dolls- mainly Poppy Parker and Victoire, and their mainline too, of Fashion Royalty dolls, which are stunning. I love Hot Toys action figures as well. My collection focuses for the most part, mainly on 1:6 scale. I also have two Tonner dolls, 1 Deja Vu and an Ellowyne, a Sybarite Slipper, and an American Girl Rebecca. I just sold off two of my American Girl dolls and a ton of their props making room in my doll room. I collect the mini american girl dolls too, which are about 6 inches high and work well as kids for my 1:6 scale families. I also love antique and reproduction french fashion dolls- I have one of those I love to sew for. I'm a furniture nut too so that is one of my downfalls- if a new doll comes in they usually have to have somewhere to live. lol. The dolls have shops, a town, etc. My tiny Soso is usually a Christmas elf in Santa's workshop every year. So glad I found this thread!
I have a few Pullips and a MASSIVE Disney collection. You can never have enough Disney Princess in your life. Used to collect Ever After High and Lalaloopsy, but I kinda lost interest... Big, big pony collection, too.
Your Sybarite is definitely a BJD. Some BJDs are on topic for DoA and others are not. That doesn't mean they aren't BJDs!
Over the years I've collected Barbies, porcelain dolls, Tonner dolls (Tyler and Antoinette, mainly), reborn dolls (some of which I have painted myself), with my daughter I got into American Girls and Pullips, and now of course bjds.
I just added my first Our Generations doll to my growing collection of dolls, she is the Layla doll and I am completely in love with her Now I just need to finish organising my house to put up my other Hot Toys and Pop! Vinyls.
I love dolls in general. Right now, I'm buying Monster High and Ever After High dolls for the express purpose of using them for arts stuff. I also have a huge porcelain doll collection in mothballs because I don't have any room for them XD
i don't (yet, but we'll see, huh...) but a good friend of mine collects monster high, and they have a ton of them. there are other dolls i'd be interested in collecting, but one hobby at a time or else i'd be broke.
I used to collect many, pretty much any fashion doll, Barbies, Bratz, Monster High, Living Dead Dolls, anything! I sold most of them to join this hobby and prefer BJDs. I do still have some off topic dolls: -celebrity fashion dolls (NKOTB, One Direction, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber) -One Barbie doll (Graduation Barbie from my best friend) -one 1:6 Obitsu -one American Girl (Pleasant Company 1991 Samantha) -The Simpsons family from Burger King around 1990 -Ai Doll Sanbitalia -ElleoDolls Russian Toy Terrier (shipped but not here yet) I think that's all I have anymore, unless my mom has saved some that I didn't know about!
I started collecting antique porcelain dolls when I was a teen. Now, aside from BJD's, I have Pullips. I love the themes/clothing they come in.
I do collect other dolls. My favorite is the Horsman Urban Vita fashion doll. In fact, fashion dolls are what I play with, sew for, and photograph the most. I just bought a fashion bjd male doll made by Dalila and am very pleased with him. I also have Cissy, Annette Himstedt, Pauline, Tonner, Gene, Alex, and the list goes on and on.
I collect Pullips: I have a Cornice, Nero, Alta, Craziia, and Blanche--all customized in some way. I also have one Dal: a Melize who is currently purple and in pieces. I also have a Make it Own Izul that I have dyed blue-purple and put on a Hujoo Io body--a sort of bjd with blinking eyes! I also have some hujoos, the two janus dolls--JAK and Tyke, who I plan on dyeing. I also collect Ashley Wood robots and dolls--I have a Darwin Rothschild, a Tomorrow Queen on a volks neo girl body, and, of course, BadBot. I also have quite a few Hottoys dolls--some from Biohazard that i have given wigs, and some with the really cool PERS system--more eye movement. I also have a Kumik girl with moveable eyes too, but her "seamless" body is terrible! I also have some figmas--mostly from the K-On line and from saber. And an obitsu dog. I plan on covering this guy with fur. As you can see, I really have too many projects going--I should probably also downsize my other collections. Sigh.
I only collect BJDs but my wife has an extensive collection of pretty much everything else though she doesn't collect BJDs. Anyway, she has Sashas, Bettsys, AG, MA, baby dolls; even a barbie or two.
I have some porcelain artist dolls, mostly Jan MacLean and Mundia, Some Genes and collector Barbies. There was....sort of. I think she was called "Tattoo Fun Barbie" Barbie because she came with temporary tattoos; she had long crimped 80s hair and wore a denim micro-mini skirt and a crocheted halter top. This one is called "Beach Fun," but she's identical except for the crimped hair and she doesn't come with temp tattoos. I always called her "Trailer Trash" Barbie, but I picked up a lot of them to make over because they had that long, crimped hair like a PreRaphaelite painting. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAwMFg1Mjk=/z/H18AAOSw7NNUK1Fz/$_1.JPG They did. She came with two hyenas, and I have one. http://www.onlineauction.com/auction/images/1871114/20738866.jpg They're pretty common, you should be able to find one.
Oh wow, with Bud and Lou! I'll keep a look out for her... and probably have to fight my sister over which one of us gets her first, haha. Thanks for the heads-up.
In addition to BJDs, I have American Girl Dolls, Hearts For Hearts dolls, Barbies, Pullips, porcelain dolls, Ever After High dolls, Monster High dolls, a few odd dolls (Effanbee, Movie dolls, Anime figurine, Only Hearts Club, a few misc. dolls with no brand), Journey girls, Jun Planning Ai dolls, and Girls of Many Lands dolls. Does anyone else like the Girls of Many Lands dolls? I have yet to meet anyone else who likes them.
I have other dolls! I have a couple Monster High dolls, a German soft bodied doll I got as a child (she looks a lot like an American Girl doll but is much older), a Sailor Saturn fashion doll/Barbie type doll, a Sailor Moon Pullip and a mini Pullip, an Azone, and assorted plush dolls. Here's my Sailor Moon Pullip! I got her at San Diego Comic Con last year. If I can get a Sailor Saturn Dal this year, I'll crap my pants.
A bit, I have an AG doll and some fashion dolls. Two of those are Takara Jenny hybrids on a Barbie Made-to-Move and an Azone PureNeemo body ^-^ Takara Jenny is my favorite fashion doll line for sure. Then I have another MTM Barbie and a 90s Barbie I customized, and had signed by Melanie Martinez >w< I also have a little Azone PiccoNeemo. But honestly BJDs are my favorite, they feel like what I've been looking for all my life when I was chopping off Barbie hair and customizing their faces with sharpie...
Like a lot of other people in this thread, I collect Monster Highs I got into MH because I wanted BJDS but couldn't afford them yet lol I've also had a few Ever After High (mhs sister line) dolls catch my eye but I haven't bought any yet!
In the beginning there were Living Dead Dolls. Then Pullips, followed by Blythe, and then BJD. Then there a bunch of random vintage dolls and Momoko, Dynamite Girls, Susie, and other fashion dolls. I thinned out my collection a lot, but I still have a one or two of lots of different dolls. I am not super actively hoarding any new dolls, though I did get a new couple new Azone cuties over the winter. I really like JerryBerry dolls and hope to eventually order a Cozy on the new body.
Same! It is that little smile that is making me want one! I have a Sleepy Jerry and I think she'd be a good contrasting JB doll.
Wow, your collection is really big! I have got some pullip, Monster high and fashion dolls. Could you please show your Ever After high dolls? I am thinking to buy one, but still not decided what doll I like most
I too like Monster High Dolls and use them as audience or support cast in photos of my 16" fashion dolls. I have a good assortment of Tonner Dolls , several Horsman Vita Dolls, Girl for All Times, Carpatina and more American Girl Dolls than I need as well as small collection of mini dolls. I love them all and it is good to see I am in such good company.
Similar to what I've read, I've collected some Barbies (older ones, like no bending in the knees or the weird bending-knees inside the plastic) and some older American Girls (Kit and Kaya). Recently, I collected some Monster High and Ever After High.
For a while just last year, I collected Monster High dolls. I wish I had those when I was little! The puns of the whole franchise hurt my soul but I love the unique designs and references to monsters and horror themes. I decided just a few weeks ago it wasn't for me and stuck to just resin BJDs instead.
I don't collect any atm, but I am tempted by all the pure neemos/obitsus. If only tanned ones were more common!
I have an American Girl (Cecile), a Magic Attic doll (Keisha), a few of the Barbie Fashionista line, and somewhere is a Pullip type doll. I also have a lot of the Little Apple Dolls. I forget about them because they don't get displayed anymore.
I used to collect porcelain dolls before I discovered BJDs. I still have one or two of those. I also have a small collection of Monster High. Just some of the really cool-looking ones. And a few random rag doll types, most of which I've had since I was born, including a huge handmade Raggedy Anne doll that was once taller than me. lol
I was reading at the beginning of this that some of you have AGD's. I have a Samantha that I've had since I was about 10. I'm now 32. She's minty mint. LOL. Anyways, I'm gathering her up to sell her, so I can get more BJD's. But I collect 16" "fashion" dolls that are more similar to BJD's. If that makes sense. Some of them are not very anatomically correct, and I don't mean with the junk and bells and whistles. But I collect Inamorata, Modsdolls, some Sybarites, Dollshe fashion dolls, and kittens (hehe, well, they collect me). When I was young, I was more than a Barbie lover. I was beyond obsessed. I still have hundreds in storage. I collect the holiday ones still. Some of us have our credit cards run in terror. I've actually heard of people putting their credit cards into a tub of water and freezing it. That way, when they have to use it, they have to thaw it - gives people time to "think" But I would just grab the numbers off of it and go "hahaha, I WIN!" totally missing the point.
@Proony I am so sorry this took me so long! I'm not too great with technology and it took me a minute to figure out how to place a picture here... I hope I did this correctly. EAH Ashlynn and Hunter
It's not so much that I collect other dolls as much as I have other dolls for various reasons; mainly either I think they are cool or I want to buy them purely for the clothes they come with so I can use them for my bjd's. I have a Made-to-Move Barbie because I was curious about a fully posable Barbie. I have a Monster High doll because I was curious + their clothes will fit one of my tiny bjds, so I wanted to check it out. I have a resin BJD by a porcelain artist but he doesn't fit DoA criteria. I guess he would be closest to a fashion doll in style/size. I have a few action figures which I like to customize like my bjd so they are all their own unique characters. I have a couple Figma's because they're based on specific anime/vocaloid characters I love.
I have two reborn dolls and a ton of American Girl dolls. I started collecting them when I was younger. It's been a while since I got a new one, though. BJDs are expensive
Got into this hobby via the roundabout route of high end action figures, and I still pick them up when the mood strikes... My latest is the Hot Toys 1/4 scale Iron Man MKXLIII, and it's utterly ridiculously brilliant. I get the impression that action figure quarter scale is a very different thing to BJD quarter scale, he looms over everyone in the MSD range in my collection. He's nearly of a height with my 50cm Obitsu actually!
I collect Robert Tonner and Helen Kish child dolls - they outnumber my BJD's. I like to put them up in room scenes - this is the Rabbit Room with two of the 10" Tonner dolls - Sophie and Georgia.
I collect Pullips And I have some Monster High dolls too. I'd love to get a Kikipop and a custom Blythe as well !
OMG! Merlin's Mom, I love your Rabbit Room!!! Look at all the little bunnies! (Considering my on-line moniker, you knew I'd love this room. ) Your doll rooms are so cute!
Thank you Rabbit-moon I thought you might like the Rabbit Room . This is the Robert Tonner Michael monster room.
Thank you mdonline03 - they are fun to put together. I won't show all of them I have about 40 rooms set up. The rooms seem to make the dolls come to life more
It was a good day for my Pullip and Friends collection. I stopped by a "Tuesday Morning" store on impulse and found a Dal Edge for just $36. She's so cute! Her icy blue eyes are killer, and I love her little electric guitar.
Wow, thank you very much! I surely love the style and the posing of your photo, and they have so believable and real though definitely Fairytale look! I just love it One doll won't be enough for me I'm afraid )) Hope other of the Ever After High dolls have such charisma to them too, the real-life-fairytale style, I've wanted such since I was a kid ) Now I'll definitely be going to find a store with the proper assortiment to be able to choose. May I ask another question, if you'd be so kind to reply - did you encounter any face-up glitches when purchasing the EAH dolls? The Monster High dolls sometime have issues with the face-up, and I'd like to know if the Ever After High may have such problems. Thank you in advance for replying, and thanks again for the inspiring photo of your lovely couple!
I can tell you for a fact, that yea, Ever After High has the same glitch with their face-ups, but it's not as common. The "common" issues are eyes will have a bad print (whether colors are weird or the eye will miss the eye slot on the face) or black ink will be on the face (like in tiny amounts), however, I have seen some bad glitches (though I think those are rare).
I've only seen a face-up glitch once (and that was on a doll who was in a box that looked like it had been trampled by a herd of elephants). The more common issue is messy hair but that is easily solved with a little water and styling. I hope you find one that you love!
Bratz dolls! They're what got me into dolls in the first place and recently I started to hunt down old ones I've missed while they were in stores. I feel like they aren't really loved in this community, but they hold a special place in my heart!
Thank you! I'm so magnified with Ever After High dolls that I'll be purchasing some for sure, though it's good to be prepared to some possible glitches to avoid. Thank you very much! I'll hope I won't discover those glitches myself I'm considering few of the EAH dolls currently, and I'm afraid that I won't stop with just one loved doll
Good luck! Also, (in case you care) I know that currently Ever After High dolls are getting new "smiling faces" (so if you fell in love with older dolls, due not that those are slowly being removed- Tuesday Morning is a good place to try and find older dolls), plus since Comic Con is going on, I would highly check out Matty Collector's for the SDCC Exclusive Cedar (if she's still there- She is still there on my end). Side Note: If you plan on storing the doll, make sure you cover them well. From personal experience, my Thronecoming Raven got some of her dyed neckpiece on the face of my Getting Fairest Maddie
