Does Anyone Collect Tonner?

Feb 14, 2017

    1. Hey Derilan, I can so relate to this! :doh

      • x 1
    2. My "fashion girls " are so special and the clothes, shoes, jewelry...….if I saw Robert Tonner I would definitely take my shoe and go upside his head! Why give up on Tyler and her friends like that then make some "BJD's" and think the fans will gobble them up!?? I know I did not!

      • x 1
    3. Some are loose in their boxes and are on eBay. God knows if I can find all the boxes for them, I know I have some early one's but I am so sad to let them go...…..

      • x 1
    4. LOL! I hear you Derilan! I don't understand what happened with Robert. Like I said before, he was the king of a doll-making empire, with Tyler, Ellowyne, Evangeline, American Models, and even Betsy McCall. And, now, he's putting out a single BJD with a awful face-up? What the heck?!

I will say, however, that it did seem like he was producing a huge number of doll lines, and maybe he burnt himself out. I just hope, after a while, he will get nostalgic for his first dolls, and we'll see him create a new awesome Tyler.

    5. Hey all, what do you think of W.I./Tonner Miette? I didn't really care for her until I found this dark-haired girl.

      • x 4
    6. She is very attractive, love how they did her make up - yellow is a good color for her.

      • x 1
    7. Merlin's Mom: Yeah, I thought the eyeshadow/lip coloring was subtle but nice. I consider the Wilde Imagination line to be more anime inspired, I have a lot less of those than Tyler & friends.

      • x 1
    8. Stellarphenomena, she has a pretty face. I don't recall seeing this doll before. Is she Tyler sized?

    9. Rabbit-moon: She was one of the more recent dolls before Wilde Imagination went our of business. She is in the Tyler sized group basically, but she does have a different body type, more like the 'chic body' I guess (look at her hands for instance and her shoe size is different)), She has a slightly larger head.

    10. Thanks for the info Stellarphenomena!

I agree; I think the dark-haired version is prettiest. :D Congrats on getting her!

    11. I still have quite a lot of my Tonner dolls. I've always had quite a thing for the male dolls and in his hey dey Tonner did some awesome guys (as well as the girls)
I saw some talk about Jeremy earlier in this thread. He is a favorite of mine too.
[IMG]Jeremy Voss by wizgerg3, on Flickr
I had read elsewhere that Tonner had issues with some of the Chinese factories and the molds for Tyler etc, and that is part of the reason that he moved on from them. Maybe as an artist he just wanted to do something different after many years spent with Tyler/Ellowyne/Evangeline lines etc...……………..I agree the face paint on Rayne wasn't my favorite either.
I really enjoyed his character lines over the years as well and was sad to hear there would be no more Gone with the Wind or Outlander dolls

    12. WOW JinCIncy you've got some stunning males there! And I love all of their clothes! Tonner really did a nice job on the clothes for the guys.

      • x 1
    13. Thanks! Yes, Tonner did some EXCELLENT clothing for both the girls and guys! My "Rhett" is a repaint done by Jenny Sutherland of JACS, but the other 2 guys shown above are as they came straight from Tonner. Before I got into BJD's so heavily, Tonner dolls, specifically the male repaints were a focus for me.

Thanks so much for sharing with us!

    15. There have been so many good male repaints! I have kept myself from buying any of them over the years but I do love to drool over them when I see them.

Lovely girls in your photo. Who are they?

    18. Rabbit-moon: Thanks, they are Takara 'Shion' and Tonner 'Annora' (Annora American Beauty)

    19. Had a large family of Ellowyne Wilde, but no longer.

      • x 1
    20. Hi TimebeforeDawn! Oh, that's a shame that you had a large family of Ellowynes and now the are gone. Did you keep any of them? There must have been one "favorite" that you kept.

      • x 1
    21. Indeed, it was. Quite sad having to part with them. All were adored, and all were favourites. Ellowyne Wilde fashion was also exquisite. No, none kept.

      • x 1
    22. Sorry to hear that Timebeforedawn. I never collected any Ellowynes, but I always appreciated how pretty she was.

But, that is why we have Ebay! :wiggle You could always visit Ebay and find a lovely Ellowyne for old-time's-sake. (I recently found a 2008 Bryant Park Tyler for a very reasonable price on Ebay.)

    23. :-)) indeed. One day. :-)) Awesome on your great find. :-)

    24. TimebeforeDawn: Do you collect any kind of dolls anymore?

      • x 1
    25. I collected Tonner a long time ago. I loved their dolls. I remember seeing them in a department store when I was a kid and I fell in love with them. I wish I had gotten the Harry Potter Tonner dolls at the time. I had a few older Tonner dolls and I would like to get some of the clothes as I found they did a collaboration with one of my favorite artists I wish the clothes were SD sized though :’(

      • x 2
    26. @Jaret - it would be awesome if Tonner clothes were SD sized! The 22" American Model Doll clothes fit some (not all) of my SD girls depending on how thick their waists are as well as bust size. Tonner outfits are just so perfect and stylish my crew would love them.

    27. Been to a couple of doll shows since August (been traveling for work though so no play time) and managed to find me a RTW Rouge Sydney (she did come in her original red bathing suit). She looks so good in red.

    29. @JinCIncy - I love both of those tops! Sydney's my favorite Tonner sculpt - especially with raven black hair and red lips.

    30. Wow! Mu Shu and JinClncy, both of your Sydneys are gorgeous! So great to see them!

I think that a raven-haired, red-lipped Sydney is the most beautiful doll Tonner ever made. :love

    31. Mu Shu: Very nice! Thanks for sharing, I like the Tonner thread.

    36. She is lovely - her coloring is done very well - one of the better ones.

    37. Here is my Tonner Child of the Moon (Deja Vu) - she has tan skin and gold eyeshadow. She's the only one I bought. There were a few I really liked though.

    38. Wow! Stellarphenomena, what a stylish knock-out she is! So pretty! :D

I always thought Tonner's Deja Vu dolls were lovely, but I never got one. Maybe someday...

    39. I happened to be playing with my Tonner dolls a bit today photographing some of my Brenda's...……...I loved the Brenda Starr sculpt, especially in her incarnations where she went "Undercover" and was given a haircolor other than red. Midnight Chanteause was one of my very favorites...………...here modeling Theatre de la mode

    40. JinCIncy, I always thought Brenda was cool! I loved the whole 40s vibe. It was so glamorous! :D

What a gorgeous picture of your Brenda! Wow! It looks like a page from an 1940s Vogue magazine. It looks so real! Kudos to you on your wonderful artistry. And, thanks so much for sharing. She's a beauty! :love

    41. I love the Brenda Starr sculpt as well and this is the one Brenda that I would really love to own. The dark hair, red lips... beautiful dress too.

    42. While looking for any Brenda pics I might have I found this one posed under my tree - from Christmas 2012! Gorgeous Diana (Wonder Woman) and Kit!

    43. Wowzer! Now that is the perfect photo to start off the holiday season! :treecookie Your girls are beautiful!:D

Stellarphenomena, I have such a weakness for Tonner's raven-haired beauties with red lips. :aheartbea Your Wonder Woman takes my breath away.

    44. @stellarphenomena gorgeous girls you have there. Wish I had hair like either one of them!!!

I finally managed to get the one EG with the painted eyes! Working on finding her something to wear and to change her wig. I like the short dark wig she came with but not with any of the outfits I have to put her in. She came wearing like a teddy or something.

Can I also say that I'm really ticked off about not having the Tonner Archive to look back through anymore! They could have at least kept that up for reference sake!!

    45. Rabbit-moon: Thank you, you always have such kind words!!

    46. Mu Shu: Right?? I might try to find out if there's a back-up somewhere. Now I just use Dreamcastle Dolls.

Look forward to seeing your EG. Congrats!

She's 'Rococo Nights' a one of a kind for charity.

    48. @stellarphenomena love your Agnes as Jane! You did a great job on her outfit! I have lots of Tonner's 12" crew, predominantly the Alice dolls as I loved that sculpt the most. Oddly enough, I have none from the Agnes line, although I did buy several of the outfits.
Here are 2 of my favorite Alice's from Tonner, the dark haired one was a Cherished Friends exclusive and you don't see her very often. Heck, you don't see many of Tonner's 12" crew anymore! I use the Dreamcastle Dolls reference pages all the time! IT's a great reference tool for the Tonner's!

    50. Stellarphenomena, I use Dreamcastle Dolls for reference too! I sure hope they never go away! :sweat

Love your Agnes! She's perfect as Jane! :aheartbea
JinCIncy, your Alices are so pretty! I always loved when Tonner made an Alice doll. Alice is just one of those characters from your childhood that you grow up loving.

Stellarphenomena, so cute! I loved the Brenda sculpt. I really do love her as a redhead. And, Tonner always gave her such a lovely high-color faceup.

Congrats Mu Shu on getting the EG with the painted eyes. I can't wait to see her!

I go on Ebay, every once in a while, just to look at EG, and I've noticed that pickings are becoming slim.

      • x 1
    51. @Rabbit-moon - I look on ebay at least weekly to see how sales of EG are doing. There are so many of the vinyl dolls that have never come up. There were a total of 17 resin EG (you really only see about 6 of those being listed) and there were a whopping 116 vinyl releases:o I would say only about 10-12 of those get listed. Again, this is where the EG archive would be really, really helpful. I look to see if any of those other 100 vinyl dolls ever comes up!

@stellarphenomena - I use Dreamcastle for reference a lot too but they don't really have the EG line.

@JinCIncy - love that dark haired Alice! I never really collected that size but I wouldn't mind having her. She's not cheap though so probably won't ever make it into my collection.

She's wearing the outfit from Queen of the Woodlands Angelique (I don't have any of that doll, just didn't appeal to me) but I did want the outfit! Although those sparkly green boots she is wearing were a PITA to get on! One of my biggest complaints about Tonner - why make jewelry and shoes with TINY buckles and clasps for ADULT sized hands to try and get on!!!! I want her to have a black wig but haven't really found one that I like.

I also found this Tiny Kitty outfit (I danced all night) now being modeled by Miss Dinner Dance Kitty

I'm loving EG in this outfit! It really is her style. Happy you've been able to add her to your collection.

Agree with you on the Kitty faceups - can't recall a bad one. I'm enjoying the greenery, wish I had some for my ladies, the few outfits I've liked on Ebay have been a bit out of my range $$....

    54. Mu Shu, yes, I wish the Evangeline Ghastly archive was still up. I used to love going there and drooling over all the dolls. It also helped to identify the resin and vinyl dolls from the plastic Evangelines. Though, I have to confess, I like some of the plastic ones, too. Like Seance Serenade, in all that plush red velvet, and Gothic Mist, with the romantic lavender dress, with the layered skirt and beaded bodice. So very pretty.

Here's a website I use for looking at Evangeline stuff now: Ghastly Archive
It doesn't have any details except for a small picture of the doll, the name of the doll, and the original price. Disappointingly sparse, but at least it's something.

Wow! Your Evangeline is gorgeous!!! (LOL! Yeah, those little Tonner accessories are a pain. But, they look so great once you get them on the doll. ;))

Such a beautiful Tiny Kitty! (I think I see a "green" theme going on in your post.:treecookie)

    55. @Rabbit-moon - THANK YOU for that reference!!!! Gothic Mist is a very pretty doll - I was able to piece her together a few years ago. Initially bought the outfit but then eventually found the nude doll. Doll is pretty and outfit is STELLAR!

Tis the season to be green :3nodding: (now if only my bank account had some of that color)

    56. You are very welcome Mu Shu! I hope the reference helps!

LOL! Yeah, I wish my bank account was a little greener this holiday season, too. :doh

Wow! You have a Gothic Mist? Girl! You have an awesome collection of Evangelines! :D

And, just because I mentioned her, here is Séance Serenade. She is just so pretty; all that red velvet...perfect for the holiday season!

    57. The earlier Evangeline's were all so well done. Towards the end they really went crazy with the 80s eye makeup of shadow all the way to the brows! That just really ruined the look of the whole doll IMO. Like this one

The lips are good, the plastic color eyes are good, the outfit is good but that eye shadow just destroys how pretty she actually is.

I would buy this doll! I love the little blue in her hair and she just is so much prettier in this repaint version. I'm also really liking the dress that she's wearing and wonder who made it! Poor girl is missing her hand!
