Does Anyone Collect Tonner? Pt.2

Sep 22, 2020

    1. Hi @Rabbit-moon!

I'm glad you are enjoying my ladies. I call that raven Tyler "the bossy Queen of Hearts". She has such an ambiguous look. Her skin tone is called 'Lily' by the way, the same as some of the Nu Mood ladies he released. I agree with you, she could make a good gothic character of many kinds.

Miette was released in 2016 I believe, kind of a small line. She's what I consider semi-real (anime influence), along the lines of Deja Vu and Agatha Primrose. She may have appealed to those who like the Disney Princess dolls. (I don't, I also don't care for Barbie). Miette's "story" seems to be influenced by the rather popular show of the time "Once Upon a Time" TV series which was set in the fictional place of 'Storybrooke', Miette's fictional setting is similarly 'Faire Croire' (make-believe;disguise).

    2. @Mu Shu: Thanks! There are a lot of Sydneys I like and never got, I just happened on this one for a very good used price. I'll try and pull out my Daphne at some point :)

I have no plans to sell my dolls, I'm sure I'd regret it. I've had periods where I don't attend to them much, but that always seems to change.

    4. Stellarphenomena, I totally get this! I feel the same way. I know I would regret it if I sold them.

I tend to fall in-and-out of love with my dolls. But, I always fall back in love with them. And, now that Tonner isn't producing dolls anymore, (at least, not dolls I feel that have the same quality and love as the original lines) it only makes the dolls I have are even more special to me.

Wow! Stellarphenomena, another Tonner beauty! What a gorgeous face! :love

That dress is very pretty, too. I love the color! :aheartbea

There are some new Ellowynn dolls for sale (probably not for long), she has an updated smaller head I believe (size 6/7), and slight facial changes.

I don't find the outfits on the dolls compelling....

    6. I liked Ellowyn's bigger head! Out of all of those dolls I like the sold out Feeling Navy Blues the best. I do think they all have very nice face ups though and the red haired doll has very light freckles that look nicely done.

      • x 1
    7. @Mu Shu: I have 4 of the prettiest painted eyes Ellowynns ever made (just my opinion) so I'm not very tempted at the $200+ price point. I agree the prototypes look great, but I don't trust the finally product. One of the last batches had this, the eyes are just off ("Wistful Rose"):

If I can find a basic or nude doll for a reasonable price of one of the new smaller heads I may buy it just to have for comparison! First I want to see what I'd be getting. ;)

    10. Stellarphenomena, Wow! The eyes on that doll look terrible! That is almost as bad as the eyeliner fiasco on Tonner's last new line. Considering how beautiful the faceups were on his original dolls, it's hard to believe he would let his dolls look like this.

I always thought Ellowyne was cute, but the new dolls just don't have the charm of the original dolls. Sadly, I'm not tempted. But thanks so much for the updates! :thumbup

    11. Chairman of the Board for the win!! One of my favorites as she had darker hair. No new dollies for me as I have to replace the water softener and it's time for auto insurance renewals and HOA dues :...(

      • x 1
    12. @Mu Shu: She's a cutie but I thought her original outfit was drab. She looks great in stronger colors.

I understand, I have a low dolly budget for sure. We just replaced our water heater. Yikes! It was failing hard, but thank god we did it before we had a big mishap...

    13. @Rabbit-moon:
The thing I take an issue with besides the eyes are the rooted hair dolls. At least in the promo photos there is a huge gap between the hairline and the ear. Does not look cool!

Thanks, I'm still following everything Tonner does. Although his two newest sculpts on Instagram did nothing for me. He's selling Ellowyne and other clothes, etc. on Virtual Doll Convention (VDC) and that new doll up for pre-order at R Tonner Design. FYI.

I'm still amazed that they resurrected Sydney as "Grace" at VDC!!

    16. Lovely pictures, Stellarphenomena! Your girls look awesome! :fangirl:

I own a couple of full-sized Kittys. (They are in storage now.) Her clothes were so fabulous, At the time, I loved her 50s vibe! :aheartbea

Sigh...Evangeline Ghastly is the doll I wish I'd started collecting when she was first issued. Her goth style is so gorgeous. Unfortunately, she's just too expensive now. :doh

    17. Ah, one of the more gorgeous EG's!! Love this look for her vs his later versions where he went all 80s heavy eye makeup up to your eyebrows look!

      Stellarphenomena,
your Ellowyne is incredibly cute! (Actually, she’s downright gorgeous!)

She looks so stylish in her winter outfit. I love it! :aheartbea

    19. Thank you @Rabbit-moon! I've been attending to the dolls I have as a deterrent to more collecting, ha! I can't stop looking at all the doll shops. :doh

    20. One of my favorite things about having dolls is dressing them in fashionable clothes, styles that I've never worn, including fancy and lolita dresses. I'm not super feminine by any means (I have fibromyalgia and only wear comfy casual clothes) but my dolls are @Mu Shu.

      • x 1
    21. Excellent plan Stellarphenomena! I need to do the same thing to distract myself from buying dolls I don't need. I have so many dolls that need a good "attending to"! :doh

And, just for old time's sake, here's a pix of my Basic Diana doll from 2015. (I'm so there for this sculpt!:love)

    22. @Rabbit-moon: What a gorgeous lady! A nice surprise to see a Tonner today. I keep meaning to give some of my Tonners new looks...

      • x 1
    23. So, what do you guys think of Tonner doll - Olivia "Moire" Chase
at Sideshow Collectibles? (This is the basic doll, there's also a few outfitted dolls)

      • x 2
    24. I'm not really "feeling her" look very well. I think she's supposed to be the "new" Sydney Chase or relative of Sydney? Don't know but Sydney and Daphne Dimples are my 2 most favorite Tonner sculpts followed by Deeanna Denton. I really dislike not being able to go to a doll shop or even online doll store and just order Tonner dolls like in the old days when a new release would come. She just doesn't seem to have any type of .... IDK ... personality?

      • x 2
    25. Stellarphenomenon: Sigh…I’m not feeling her, either. I mean she’s pretty, but there’s no warmth. (And, I agree with Mu Shu, no personality.)

But, have you guys seen the Tonner video on YouTube with Robert introducing his new doll, Neema? Now, she reminds me of his old style. I actually like her. If I collected Ellowynne, I would seriously think about getting her.

Sorry, I’m having trouble grabbing the link to the video. I hope this works.

    26. Yeah, I don't like the Chase doll, she almost looks tense or frightened?? but I may get that cream outfit. (for Annora)

Neema is adorable, I'll probably get one... I like the one with the braids!

      • x 1
    27. I don't collect fashion dolls, but I really like Neema - tempting :3nodding: I also like the one with braids the best, but the basic where you can change wigs is exciting too.

      • x 2
    28. I love Neema with the braids and the basic version the best but also like the second version for a more vintage/retro hollywood vibe on the hairstyle. I probably won't have any money when she gets released so won't be getting any.

      • x 2
    29. Stellarphenomena, I agree! Neema with the braids is my favorite, too. (But, I kinda like all of them.) She has all the charm of Tonner’s original style. When you compare Neema with that new doll, Olivia Chase, Neema is the clear winner. For Neema, I’m just hoping that the final product is as nice as the doll in the production photos.

Hey! Merlin’s Mom! Long time no see! Welcome back!

Really? You don’t collect any fashion dolls? None at all?

Mu Shu, the 2nd Neema looks like maybe 20’s or 30’s Hollywood glam. I love old movies, and that’s the vibe I’m getting. When I was in college, I got a chance to go to Chasen’s in Beverly Hills. It was a very famous Hollywood hangout for all the old movie stars beginning in the 1930’s, and I could totally see someone in a dress like that dining there. The place was so old-school glam.

I know I won’t be getting any of these beauties. I’m saving my money just in case I stumble upon a 2008 Crimson in the Park 2.0 Tyler. (The classic 16” Tonners are getting soooo expensive!)

I also miss going to a doll shop to check out dolls. We had several doll shops here in the Orange County for years, and two were really big stores around Disneyland. I could always find Tonner dolls, Vintage Barbies, Gene dolls, Madam Alexander, play-line dolls, and artist dolls. But they are gone now. I may not have collected all those lines of dolls, but I loved having a place to go and admire them. (Don’t get me wrong, those shops used to get a big chunk of my paychecks :chomp:)

    30. Hi Rabbit Moon! No I don't have any fashions dolls, mine are all child dolls. I love to look at them though.

    31. Gods, I should just avoid DoA forever :mwahaha Took a peek at this thread, and went off in search of 2012 Essential Lizette, who has been on my wishlist since she came out. Found one on eBay, and bought her. Pics soon!

Woohoo! Congrats on getting a Lizette. She's such a pretty doll! :love. (Ah yes, the dangers of visiting this thread...muwahaha! :evilplot:)

    36. Wow! She's GORGEOUS! What a beauty! :love

    37. I have avoided looking in this thread for a reason lol

Once upon a time I had quite a few different Tonner/Wilde dolls (American Models, Evangeline, Ellowyne, Cami & Jon, Antoinette, Agatha Primrose and Patience) I stopped collecting because of quality issues. I swear I had the worst luck with eye wonky dolls :(
Their customer service was top notch but I got sick of getting dolls with messed up paint and badly placed inset eyes.

I did just bought a Patience doll from the Doll Peddlar, mainly to steal her outfit for my new Tender Creation girl but I will probably keep her :D I miss a lot of the Tonner/Wilde dolls I used to have and would love to rebuy some (especially since I can check the eyes on the second hand dolls) but they are so pricey!! :aeyepop:

I was very tempted by Ellowyne Divine inspiration. I love her face but not the outfit or hairstyle, I am telling myself I cannot justify buying her just to steal the doll. I have seen some on ebay at exhorbitant prices and the doll is still available, so I may cave on her.

I really love the basic and braided Neema, so there will be temptation there. At least the available dolls are cheaper than secondary prices, but still higher than I want to pay for a vinyl doll. I swore off vinyl, but here I am smh :nowords:

      • x 1
    38. Hey jenlovesdolls! Welcome to the thread! :D

LOL! Yes, here you are. :nowords:

Yeah, it’s definitely dangerous to check out this thread with so many classic Tonner beauties. It certainly makes me look back on my old Tonner days with misty nostalgia. Makes me miss all the dolls I missed out on, at the time. Now, they are considerably more expensive on the secondary market. :horror::chomp::chomp::chomp: But, I’ve been lucky finding some dolls at reasonable prices.

Congrats on getting a Tonner Patience. She’s a cutie! Would love to a photo of her when she arrives. :thumbup

      • x 1
    39. I will definitely post pics here once she arrives :)

    40. Springtime Patience has arrived! I thought she would look cute scale wise with my STOdoll Naughty Cutie, and she does :D
Her hair is a bit messy, but hard to fix since the bows are all fixed in her hair. The hair is a bit slick feeling, but not greasy...if that makes sense? Her knees are a bit loose and the base of her stand was not in her box. The box appears to never have been opened so I think it is a definite oversight by QC. No surprise there. The Doll Peddlar did find a base and is sending it to me, A+ for them!

    41. They are both super cute! Doll Peddlar does great with online orders and such however in person the owner is NOT nice at all (I've met her a few times at the TX BJD convention) Last year was exceptionally rude - I refused to buy anything from her at that show, and I had looked so forward to seeing what she would bring to the show.

      • x 1
    42. Oh wow, that is disappointing :(

      • x 1
    43. Oh jenlovesdoll! She’s absolutely adorable! I love those side-glancing eyes. :aheartbea

Wow! That was nice of Doll Peddlar to find you the missing piece of the stand. Glad it all worked out.

Congrats on getting such a cutie!

Mu Shu, that is such a bummer about Doll Peddlar. I’m sorry she was so rude to you. :...(

It’s sad but true, some people just have very brusque personalities. Really not a good thing if you want to deal with the public. Too bad for her; sounds like she lost out on a good sale by being rude. :doh

      • x 1
    44. By the looks of things she sold almost NOTHING last year so I don't think I was the only one she was rude too! Well, I know I wasn't, I have a couple of friends who were vendors there last year and they both said she was very rude and condescending to them when they asked questions. There is no purpose for such behavior.

      • x 2
    45. Well...I did it again
I bought a Marley Wentworth fullset doll that came with an extra outfit, both NRFB. I have a small wishlist of Marley outfits I want and this doll came with the outfit that is the very top of my wishlist, and the outfit the doll has on was also on my wishlist. I put it on my watchlist because the price was higher than I wanted to pay and I got an offer sent to me. It was still higher than I wanted to pay, so I sent a counter offer and they accepted!
Just like with Patience, I want the outfits for my new Tender Creation Young girl, but I will probably keep the doll, why not?!

      • x 1
    46. Marley is one doll I have never owned. But the clothes are ALWAYS fantastic and if they can fit one of my BJDs even better! Congrats on your find @jenlovesdolls. It is crazy how the prices have gone up - Ellowyne Wilde dolls are especially way up there for me.

      • x 2
    47. Congrats Jenlovesdolls! What a great find! It’s always awesome to get stuff that’s on your wishlist. :thumbup And, I think Marley is a pretty doll, too.

And super congrats because you got the outfits that you wanted for the price you offered! :dance (My counter-offers are usually rudely ignored.:doh)

      Looking forward to pictures!

    49. Her face is fantastic! Wish I had cute Tonner clothes to wear myself, but I'd have to lose all the high heeled shoes, my feet can't take those anymore.

    50. My feet have been so spoiled by flip flops and being barefoot all the time, I can barely deal with any kind of shoes :aeyepop:

    51. She has one of the better face ups, just lovely and a very cute outfit.

Here's my Sister Dreary. Agnes Dreary & Family were produced from 2007-2013. I loved the dolls, Agnes reminds me of Wednesday Addams.

    55. ok, I have been under a rock for a few years. >.> I had no idea they brought Ellowyne back this year?
SO.... where and when do I find those wigs?...I seriously need those spacebuns!
I still have a few tonners in there boxes that I need to find a spot of the shelf to put them. I have a few that need to go out the door too...

    56. @leopardessmoon: This is the web page for Ellowyne, Ellowyne Boutique — Virtual Doll Convention but I think space buns is long sold out! But watch the main page and subscribe to the newsletter. The next date of sale is Aug. 26-28.

    57. @Rabbit-moon: Thank you! I really regret that I never picked up Brother Dreary when I had the chance. I kept looking for a cheaper secondary market price, and then he seemed to vanish.

Neema will be out Aug. 26th.
