I only trust them to stand if they are on a stand and event hen I know things (aka cats or earthquakes (cuz I'm california)) can happen and knock the whole thing over. Most of my YOSD's stand pretty well on their own but my MSD's and SD's don't. EDIT: My YOSD centaur is one of the only ones I leave standing freely on my bookshelf cuz she has 4 legs to keep her upright xD
Nah. Even if the doll managed to stay upright on its own, eventually one of my cats would punch it over. I’ve used stands in the past but usually prefer chairs for display.
I trust my dolls to stand when I'm actively supervising them. I love taking freestanding photoshoots, and I find it lots of fun to get to know each doll's body, their weak points and stable points, and figure out how to coax them to stand in interesting poses without support. And the more I keep posing my dolls, the more confident I get about what kinds of poses they're able to hold with their jointing, weak points and stable points, etc, and how long they're likely to hold that pose. So yes, I trust my own ability to get my doll balanced and stable, but I need to always keep an eye on them. If I'm not actively supervising and can't have eyes on them, I don't take risks - they will always lean against something or sit down. My experience too.
I trust my doll to stand when I'm watching them. I live in a country that got small earthquake frequently, so it's not a good idea to leave your doll standing by him/herself alone when you are not nearby. Without outer force like earthquake and strong wind. I think I can trust my doll to stand though... They are pretty well design and good at holding their pose. But since my place do have those outer force, they are allow to stand only while I'm around.
I could trust my Obitsu girl to stand until the end of days but I really doubt any of my other dolls could do it long-term.
My dolls stand like champs usually, but I would never leave them standing long term, and even with a doll stand, I'd be hesitant to keep them like that. I have on occasion left the room to grab something with them standing for short periods of time, but more than that, no.
One of my biggest newbie mistakes in 2020 was thinking my dolls would be able to stand on their own. It has worked multiple times but I’m sure they’ve fallen over more than enough times that now I just always use a stand for them regardless of how sturdy I think they are
Trust them to stand: many of them can stand when supervised for some photos, but some of mine are too unreliable. I have a rule of never standing further away than my arm is long, and many of my dolls would have met their end if not for fast reflexes. but my dolls end up pretty loosely strung and I have lived in many slanty shanties. There are so many factors. You can feel how stable a doll really is while you handle them I think. I don't display anyone standing and am not planning to. For a couple years I had my obitsus standing on their magnetic stands, and then their ankles started to break from the stress so I threw in the towel... Standing is not for me to do with my dolls long term
I left one of my boys standing with a stand while I was sewing for him. He stood for 3 days and then fell over when I wasn't looking. He's not allowed to stand unattended at all anymore, stand or not!
I do not now ever since my favorite boy convinced me he could stand and proceeded to fall over so hard and loud my family members thought something crashed through the ceiling. I’ve learnt to sadly make full use of doll stands and my own legs and toes as stabilizers for holding on to multiple dolls while photographing
most of my dolls are large size doll and they are too high to stand steady. Therefore I only left my dolls stand by himself when the floor is covered with carpet or other soft materials.
I trust my doll to stand, but.. I'd get pretty uncomfortable if I had to stand for 8 hours, so I usually just let him stay comfy in my bed or something.
I would usually say it depends on the stringing and the sculpt, but I've got a couple with great joints that need to be restrung that can't even sit up, but they stand like rocks, so it's sure not just the stringing. I trust them to stand, just not quite well enough to leave them alone (but that's mostly my thing, they would probably be fine). So if they're good standers, it may be because they're sculpted well!
I absolutely do not trust my dolls to stand, especially the big ones. My ringdoll especially likes to.. fall (I even had him sitting on a horse and he still decided to go ??!) Even on his stand he sways heavily in his case I thought sueding his joints would help, but no. I have joint pads on order so I'm hoping they will help with my dolls lol.
No, I have them all sitting in a cabinet. I ordered a doll from Alice's Collection and they had a promotion on purchasing a discounted stand. It's currently on it's way. If I like it, I'll probably order more.
This whole topic has me wondering. Are our dolls just sleepy toddlers or the adorkable drunk types? Not many of us trust them to stand without supervison
My Resinsoul Ming stands really well for a doll with hooves, but his horns are heavy and leave him a little off balance depending on how he’s positioned. Sometimes he can barely keep his head up straight under the weight of the horns, no way I trust it not to tilt and send him toppling over! I really only stand him up for photos.
I feel insecure about letting them standing, so I keep them sit. When I got a glass cabinet, I used to imagine how cute they would look standing inside, but I don't trust them at all. I used to let then sitting in my selves too, because my previous cat was very trustable, but the new one has a lot of energy, so I keep them safe and sit inside the cabinet.
not in the slightest, maybe its because we have kids and cats, but i know the MOMENT i remove their stand theyre going to bash their faces into the floor when im not home and ill come home to a doll on the floor that the cat ate half of ;_;
Depends on what kind of shoes they’re wearing. Otherwise I don’t really trust them to stand and stay up
No LOL but that's on me, everyone needs restringing...except for my Feeple girl, she just needs her foot magnet re-glued.
It’s not that I don’t trust it… It’s just that while I am using one, I also have “safety ropes” all across my shelf just in case…
For a few minutes under heavy supervision. Just to check if the doll is well-strung and is able to stand by itself. Then I simply get anxious and it goes back to sitting on the shelf lmao
He's not even here and I already don't trust him to not fall over. It's just that trucks love to thunder down the road and create freaking earthquakes whenever they pass my home. I'm terrified he's gonna faceplant to the floor and break his face/fingers/whatever is fragile So I already bought a stand for him, just to be certain.
As long as it's under my close supervision, yeah. But only for a few mins until fear takes over and either I sit them down, or secure them with a doll stand.
Absolutely not unless the doll is leaning against a wall or similar hard surface. Maybe I'll let a doll be freestanding for the amount of time it takes to snap a photo or go "Look! She's standing!", and even then, I'm at the ready to swoop in with a catch.
My MiniFee can stand for a few seconds if she's leaning on something, but definitely not while on her own.
No, but that doesn’t stop me from posing her walking down a log in the forest… that’s stretching a yard off the ground (in my defense there was like 3” of leaves and another 3” of moss so I was pretty confident nothing was getting broken if she did tumble). It’s mostly because the elastic in these dolls is susceptible to outside influences (let’s just say) and therefore it’s pretty expected for it to snap and reposition even the most well-strung doll. And there’s usually a lot of weight in the head - eyes, putty, wigs + thick resin, so that just creates opportunities for falls. Don’t think I’d ever display them without a very sturdy stand.
I've been astounded with how well my Atelier Momoni Momonita stands. But I wouldn't keep her that way just to be safe.
Yes, but only ones that have sufficient tension and they're all still slightly leaned back against the wall. I'm more comfortable with letting 1/6 dolls stand on their own but 1/4 dolls need to be backed against something even if they're fine standing on their own.
My dolls are well strung, and they will stand without issues most of the time… but I would never leave them that way unless I was sitting right by them. It doesn’t take much to knock them over, and I would be gutted if they were to fall off a table/shelf/whatever and end up with damage. They cost far too much not to err on the side of caution.
Depends on the doll! My Minisup Hannah? Absolutely not. She is a great sitter but it's terrible trying to get her to stand properly without being propped on something. My Withdoll boy stands great, as does my Raccoon Doll/Doll Leaves hybrid, especially if they have shoes on. My minifees are decent stander's as well.
I'm too afraid to let my dolls stand for a lengthy period of time Aside from letting them stand for a few minutes in a photoshoot, I usually have them sitting on a chair or being propped up by a stand.
No. My doll can stand sold on their own very well, until I accidently knock him over and scare the hack out of me! He's fine but it did scuff his face up a bit and never again. My babies is either sitting or on a stand.
I do not trust my dolls to stand for long periods of time. I don't trust my DC Y-body 04 to stand at all I do trust my others to be able to stand for a picture, but I do not store them standing.
Depends on the doll, but usually only if I suede their ankles and put flat shoes on them. If I can bam on my table pretty hard and they don’t move, then I trust it. Never unattended tho, I’m way to scared they will randomly fall off, and living in California with earthquakes, trimmers I don’t want my dolls to get damaged.
If I had all my photo gear ready to go, I did trust my 1/3 girl. She had really good footing - when my friend and I were screwing around with it, she was up for five minutes, and would have stood longer if the table hadn't been jostled. Her boots were great. I would be willing to try with a new pair of shoes on her, just because her fullset ones are kinda-sorta-definitely falling apart. (No dolls were harmed in this pursuit of science.)
Most of my dolls all sit as of right now. Sometimes I test to see if the dolls can stand on their own (sometimes the doll can stand on their own), but after that they normally sit. When I use them for stop-motion videos, I try to hold onto them with my hand out of frame as much as possible. No doll stands involved.
Some of my dolls stand well some less so and some could sit well if I tighten the elastic but no I don't let them permanently stand in display I have the laiva shelving units from IKEA and the big ones don't fit standing but even the 1:4 and 1:6 I display them sitting those shelving units are very lightweight so it's easy with the weight of all that resin to move one or clean around and with a wrong move to shake the unit and have all dolls tumble down so I play safe and let them sit lol
Some of mine are good standers – my Volks SD10s and Ryoma – but I have a few flop monsters like my RS Doll RG line boy and my Dollshe 18M Hound. The Hound has a tendency to bow his knees so badly that I'm considering buying a new body for him.
Although they all stand okay-ish, I'd never trust them to stand unsupervised. Heck, not even on the stands as they have managed to plop off those pretty easily in the past. We sit and lie down in this house
Most of mine sit, a few are standing with the help of doll stands (i need more stands..) and a few are standing but leaning very slightly against something. If they have good locking mechanisms in their hips and knees I trust them to be a leaner. xD But I never leave a doll freestanding unattended, just for safety. I have had dolls freestand on tables at doll meets in the past but omg, the anxiety whenever I turned away or walked away was real. Thankfully no one fell at said meets. I've only had dolls fall when I'm nearby to catch them. (and only one took damage because he literally jackknifed and slipped through my hands and broke a finger, That doll never has standing privileges now, even with a stand lol)
For long term display I use a saddle stand or sit them. Some of my dolls do free stand really well, especially in boots So they may stand on my desk while I'm sitting there working on stuff. but when no one's around to catch them, I would rather be safe than sorry and simply sit them or lay them down.
Some of my dolls stand perfectly (Dikadoll 62cm ver.II boy body or Dollmore Narsha sister Zihu), some only with persuasion and on an absolutely flat floor (old Supia single body or my Dollmore Zaoll).
Yes, almost all of my dolls can freestand with no problem! The only one with a big issue is one of my art dolls, and that's mainly due to the fact that it's got the teensiest itty bitty widdle feet, and a giant bobblehead My Feeple60's thighs swivel so it can be annoying to get him to stand, but once he's standing he can stay that way for months. I've had dolls tumble with no problems to their faceup, and if they get chipped then hey- time for a new faceup and new look.
I do trust my minifee for standing stuff but the big guy has a big heavy head (and wig) and just.... Falls and bends whenever. He's not going to be standing out of my sight nuh huh.
My Enchanted Doll, definitely. I’ve left her standing for like an hour before. The girl is basically a rock. I’ve never had a doll who posed so well- even after going through a house fire and being completely unstrung and restored (by an amazing restoration artist). That seems to be borne out by other owner stories I’ve heard. My Luts DES…well, there was a pic of her standing in the sales post, but she seems kicky now. I may have restrung her weirdly?
I have monster high, and no, never. I glued their stands to the shelf with sculptural plasticine, but it's light. What do for 70+ doll I can't imagine....
my Volks Miku yes! My SQ Lab Navi, heck no. She also has high-heeled feet and I need to get her some heels, but even still, she flops forwards on her top left/hip joints so badly ): It's made it a bit disappointing to even take photos of her lately.
Only for 5 seconds to take a picture. I'm just paranoid. My loongsoul hybrid is fairly sturdy, but I just cant trust him to not destroy himself if I look away from him.
Ah, for now I only trust my DF-H to stand on it's own. But for my Luts....it's a 50/50...If I know his gonna stand oh I'll know.... But only if I'm moving to a spot that's close by...nothing to long distance xD
Yes, in the same way you trust a toddler not to put something in their mouth. you don't have to be on high alert ALL the time, but you should probably keep a close eye on it.
My 1/6 DollZone boys are good little standers! MiYou & KeAi But only if they're wearing shoes. Without shoes . . . not a chance lmfao. My Si Cang A-He on DollZone B45-018 body also stands pretty well! But again, only if he's wearing proper shoes.
