Not really. The most stable doll i have is a 73cm loongsoul. I would love to display him standing (with saddle stand) but I'm still not sure lol he's heavy.
I've got to agree with everybody that's saying no! While some of my dolls can certainly stand for photoshoots, I live with a very curious cat and she's a pro at knocking things over. Plus, some of my dolls have delicate parts and I would probably cry if they landed weirdly and broke them
I've glued too many fingers back in place after even the slightest tumble to give any other answer than a resounding 'HELL no'. Supervised while taking photos is one thing, but display vanity is another, and all my girls are left sitting when unattended for their safety and my sanity alike. Those of you that do... well, you're definitely gutsier than me.
There's only 1 doll in my gang I trust to be standing while "resting"/on display and that's my Customhouse Junior Ai Yeondu who is super sturdy but wears knee-high boots that keep her joints locked just in case. I used to take her to college and she'd stand on my desk for pretty much the entire day so I'm confident that she'd be fine without the boots but her brothers (a Yeonu and a Marco also from Customhouse) are both so kicky and fussy that I don't want to risk their attitude brushing off on her
I haven’t gotten my dolls yet but I don’t ever plan on letting them stand on their own unless I’m doing photos for them. I have 2 dogs who run in and out of my room and sometimes they even bump into my computer tower shaking it (but thankfully never knocking it over). And considering this hobby is super expensive, I don’t ever want to risk them falling and breaking or chipping. I’ve never been the type of person to send things off so if they chip or break I would have so many trust issues sending them to be repaired or fixed.. and that’s lately because whenever I order something weather it’s Amazon, clothes sometimes but not often my package gets lost and I do get refunded but if my 600$ doll gets lost or stolen I’ll be petty and pissed and leave the hobby.. I’m just weird lol But honestly I just want them to be safe all the time.. so a stand I will be getting
I live in a place where there's frequent earthquakes, so some are leaning and most are sitting. Don't want any damage! Just realized stands are an option for some of them....
My DDs are awesome standers and I don't mind taking pictures with them standing for long periods of time unassisted, but my whole collection gets relegated to being part of the seated squad otherwise. I'm too paranoid about them falling over and breaking! I play with letting my resins stand, but never long term and they're usually leaning against something.
For a short time, like while I'm taking a picture, I have no problem with it. If not, they are sitting on their couch or using a saddle stand.
Nah...I'm too paranoid about them falling off my shelf and banging their faces in my desk to let them stand without any support. My first girl bowed a lot before I had to restring and wire her and I don't want to take any chances.
No, this makes me really nervous that she will fall and break. I use the Angell Studio doll stand with my BJD and the other is sitting on top of a stack of books.
No, not at all Even if I put them in that pose, I'm worried that just breathing will make them fall so I haven't left them not sitting and leaning against something. I am looking into doll stands for if I decide to keep them in a standing pose, but I usually finagle with them at some point in the day just to enjoy them.
I have 2 fairyland dolls and i know they're excellent posers, but I'm just unable to pose them well so it;s less the dolls and more me unable to find the center of gravity....tho my mnf shiwoo is on a VERY OLD and somehow tight B-line body so all he can do is stand...i am never very far away from him when I do stand him and it takes A LOT of patience but he's semi decent. I should invest in a doll stand though.
4 years later, all of my dolls can stand even if I just leave them there except for my very loose Delf and Souldoll. The only one that is kind of finicky is one of my Bimong girls because of her knee joints. I still prefer them sitting though, so i guess maybe I only trust them a little
Absolutely NOT. My reasoning is half cats and half ancient, single-jointed dolls with questionable construction. XD I don't display a doll standing unless it has a stand and is behind glass.
I never left dolls free-standing when I wasn't working with them; however the first 5 years or so of collecting, I took some big chances while doing photo stories. There was one heart-stopping moment when the opposite end dolls in a tableau on my dining room buffet both decided to fall at the same time, and I could only grab the closest one Eventually I lost my nerve and resorted to stands in stories, and Photoshop to mitigate the stands. A lot of work, but better than mending a doll
I would absolutely not trust mine to stand, no way lmao! I mean, I know my honey delfs can stand pretty well, but I wouldn't turn my back on them. Plus, I think they're cute sitting anyway!
My Lati Yellow did a face plant on a hard table and it took off a tiny spot of lip color so I might be less trusting and more careful to take photos on a softer surface. On display I use props to keep them standing or they are sitting since the cabinet they are in is a hard surface. I might use a stand on a taller doll if I don’t want them sitting.
Some of my dolls buckle at the knee the very second you even THINK of letting go of them I don't trust these little jerks for a second
Most of the time I avoid letting my dolls stand alone. One of my dolls nicely breaks his nose on the floor last time I let him stand. He had a crack on the nose, and I needed to sand it down (and of course to redo his faceup). Some of my dolls are great posers and I may trust them to stand during a photoshoot, but no longer! And I know precisely which dolls can stand and which can't.
I trust most of my dolls to stand for short times, such as during photographing them and sometimes leaving them like that while I take a break, but I would not leave a doll standing on it's own for long term display. I may leave them leaning firmly on something, but otherwise it's either stands or posing them sitting down. Even if some of them probably could stand unsupported for years on end, there is still always the risk of something knocking the shelf or even shakes in the ground due to heavy traffic, nearby construction work or other uexpected things like that. Add to that the fact that the elastic does deteriorate over time, making even the tightest doll looser as time goes by. A doll who can stand like a rock today may be less stable a year from now and what if I forget to check that regularly? Sooner or later the friction in the joints will not be enough to support the doll anymore and down she goes. Simply not worth it. For conventions I always use stands or furniture like chairs. Not just to protect the dolls, but so that people coming up to the table or wanting to take a closer look at an exhibition are not afraid to get in close and take in the details. I put a lot of work into those and I'd hate it if people miss out because they fell they have to be overly cautious. For exhibitions I try to make the stands as discrete as possible, but for the table I honestly rather that they can be seen. Convention tables are not the most robust of furniture and everybody knows it, bumps will happen.
When I first get my dolls, yes, they could stand, although I would never be far away just in case they toppled over. But now, they are all so old, the elastic has deteriorated and they all desperately need to be re-strung. I'm just trying to build up the courage to attempt it myself.
Not at all. I hover near them whenever I have them standing, because I have had them pitch over with zero warning many times before. They're really not the best at standing Even if they were better at it, I still wouldn't leave them standing all the time because I'm paranoid.
Hehe, not really! All of my dolls are on stands (the kind that wraps around the waist). They’re also kept in a display case, so even in the rare event that their stands fail them, they’d probably only fall against the walls of the display case. And I have a soft faux fur “rug” beneath them, which is further protection! I might (and that’s a strong “might”) trust them for a few seconds or minutes if I want to take a picture, but I get so paranoid because of the couple close calls I’ve had. I think I want to buy one of those special “invisible” stands with the bendable arm that allows you to pose your doll in more dynamic ways. I can easily photoshop the stand out, so it wouldn’t be an issue.
Absolutely not! I live in earthquake country (to say nothing of my cats), so even if a doll can stand pretty solidly, I wouldn't risk it. Depending on the location I'll trust one to stand for photos, but I'll never leave him upright unattended.
My Migidoll BJD stands just fine, but I only have him standing if I'm taking photos of him. I would love to leave him standing in general but I would need to acquire a really good, trustworthy doll stand for him. My Ringdoll BJD on the other hand always bent over. So I'm extra cautious with him. I have to keep in mind that in the instant see him move I'll have to drop whatever is in my hands to catch him. I had to do that once before and oh boy was that a scare. Oh, and of course I only have him standing when taking photos of him as well. Usually I like to have them sitting or stored away in their boxes!
Not really! Too paranoid that as soon as I turn my back for too long that they'll get the idea to fall over and land on their face. I can let them stand on their own for when I pose them for a pic but I'd never let them stand unsupervised.
I will stand them for pictures, but that’s it. I’ve learned the hard way not to leave them standing on display, multiple times. Not going to do it again.
I think it's not a good idea to stand dolls without dollstand. But I think they can be stand without dollstand for short time - for photos, as example
Other than my Dollzone Scorpio Aggi who has a lot of extra legs, the only dolls I can trust to stand for very long are my two Bobobie tinies. Those two could stand like rocks right out of the box, especially my elfkin Leif, he even managed standing through a few earthquakes we had a couple of years back. otherwise for now, dolls are pretty much stuck sitting or lying down until I get some stands with the exception of short photo shoots.
Only certain animal dolls that stand on four legs LOL, otherwise I might trust my Akagidoll body to stand for a few minutes for a photo... not if I leave the room though!! No way omg!
oh, god no. i have... mmmaybe one doll i'd trust to stand independently for a minute or two, but the sheer fear of something breaking keeps them in permanent recumbency if i'm not handling them. i've considered buying doll stands but i can't justify the money, haha.
I don’t trust them to stand on their own. They are so expensive and delicate fingers and ears are quite fragile. If I have to, I will lean them against something. But I prefer to have them on a doll stand or sitting down.
I don't yet display them due to lack of space for a proper display cabinet, but... ... yeah, no I trust them to stand for a short period of time, and most of them are pretty rock solid standers... ... but I live with three cats, a 3.5 year old, and a husband whose footsteps are so heavy it sounds like he stomps everywhere, so I wouldn't dare trust them to stay standing through all that lol. Even if they lasted standing on their own for a whole day, that's more of a miracle than proof of sturdiness LOL
I'm not sure if I ever replied here but some dolls I do trust to stand, others I do not (looking at you Soom). Sometimes it depends on their shoes. Anyway, I do have stands. I have 2 saddle stands and very soon I will have 6 around the waist stands. Each stand has it's different pros and cons. I want all of my dolls to have a stand so I can have them all standing up on display. Plus that way, my cats are less likely to knock them over. They are on top of a piece of furniture and lately my one cat has taken to trying to get onto it.
NOOO!! so scared to leave them standing because if they fall their could be cracks or marks left on noses and i would simply break down in tears.
Heck no! Not by themselves. I have nice sturdy stands from CoolCat though, and I trust them on those. I have an old cat who does not jump and get up on shelves and counters much any more, but if I had a younger one I would not even trust the dolls on stands. Cats will make eye contact and knock stuff off the shelf man!! No mercy.
My Lati Yellow Lumi can stand pretty well on her own, but just to be safe I have her sitting on a dollhouse chair in her display dome. I know most people like to store their dolls in their original boxes but I like to see her on a daily basis (and she doesn't have her original box anyway).
I trust some of my dolls to stand. The older ones that, honestly, I should restring, do not stand well. However, I have one that will stand on his tip toes with no issue. Most of the time, though, I have them sitting just for my own peace of mind.
I trust my MSD to stand but I don't trust my SD. She's a new head on an old type of body so they don't completely match up, which causes her to be a real pain to balance. I might buy a stand for her eventually.
My best standers are my Supia doll Juah on the Bllerina body and my Dollzone MSD boy body...I forget the body number... and my two 31cm Granado dolls, they all stand pretty solid, BUT I DO NOT leave them unattended!
I let my tiniest girl (16cm tall, or 1/8 scale) stand on her own. She's so small that falling on her face won't likely to damage anything, and I keep her towards the back of the shelf so she won't fall on the floor. Anything bigger, I use a stand. Even if they stand like rocks, someone might bump on the shelf. If I take a doll for company, I'll let her stand on her own since I'm there to watch over her.
If I’m near them and watching them, probably, because I know I can always catch them when they fall. However, if I were to display my dolls I don’t think I can do it without stands or them sitting down.
i trust a few of my dolls to stand on their own. My Dollmore boy is really good at it, but my Iplehouse girl can't even sit on her own XD My Trinity can stand, not sit tho, which is weird... More of my small dolls stands perfectly on their own, but wouldn't leave them like that unattended.
I trust my doll stands that I have but don't trust my SD girls sometimes XD I've had instances where I've set them up and made sure they stood solid on the stand but the moment I try to walk about 10ft away, suddenly their torso joint will want to jerk forward or backwards, then they want to dive off whatever surface the stand is on. Luckily I've caught them before they face planted on the floor but it still scares me how randomly it happens It's also funny when they behave when I go to work but when I'm in the room with them, they want to be dramatic >_>;
Only when I am right next to them, otherwise they are sitting or on doll stands. I would be too afraid they would fall over if the shelves got bumped or something, so I would never leave them standing on their own if I wasn't close by to catch them if they decide to face plant.
I've had a few of mine standing in bookshelf dioramas, but only in a way that had them slightly leaning on something stable, like a chair or the wall, with other dolls surrounding them that would catch them if they fell. I wouldn't let one stand just on its own out in the open without a stand.
Lol No i dont. Last time I left my doll to stand alone, they fell and broke their finger and scratched their faceup. And I'm talking bout LLT Roderich. Broke my heart. So now, I have trust issues.
Only one of mine will stand by itself, and that is my Doll Leaves Steven. But I don't need or want them to stand. I live in earthquake country, so I would not risk it. We get loads of tiny tremors that can barely be felt, but they are enough to topple a doll if it were not supported. All my dolls are sitting down.
Mine’s an Obitsu with magnets in her feet so I’m not too worried when she’s on her metal stand. She stands pretty well without it too, but I mostly leave her sitting because I like that pose best.
I started off being very afraid of my dolls standing on their own, but with every success came increasing confidence, so I have been photographing my dolls without support. Of course with me still being within reach so I can catch them if they ever fall.
I keep mine standing (without stands) in their cabinet, but it's pretty small, the door's closed if I'm not actively in there and messing with the dolls, and even if the cat hops up on top she doesn't disturb it enough to knock the dolls inside over. And that includes dolls like my Wol who's on a Dollzone body that is a real trick to get standing. They'll all stand there without problem for days, weeks, however long between me playing with them. I tend to keep them near the walls so they can be leaned a bit/won't go too far if they fall backwards, though.
While I'm playing with my dolls/taking photos, I can let them stand leaning on smth or just by themselves if they can (not all of my dolls are able to stand on their own). Though I should be more careful: one of my dolls fell to the dirty water with pebbles and damaged her face during the photoshoot. I trust only one doll to stand unattended: Dream Valley Silina, she's a dragon and has a tail She's actually always standing and nothing ever happened to her. All the rest are kept sitting on the chairs or standing with some support (I don't have doll stands, so this means wall or chair back).
Wearing shoes I trust my Islanddoll Ivy to stand... so long as I'm near enough to catch her if she falls ^^'. I'm far too paranoid to leave her standing anywhere without support.
All my dolls are technically standing in the cabinet I've homed them in but there are a couple on stands and a few leaning against the side or the back (or even each other lol) but outside the cabinet there are a handful I trust to stand on their own no problem, most I'm cautious with, and a couple I do not trust at all.
